DUBAI, United Arab Emirates – The Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries reached an agreement on Wednesday after a nearly two-week stalemate on its future oil production volumes, according to reports from the Wall Street Journal and Reuters.

The temporary but unprecedented stalemate that began in early July resulted in the United Arab Emirates rejecting a coordinated oil production plan for the group led by its royal staff, Saudi Arabia.

Abu Dhabi had requested that its own “base line” for crude oil production – the maximum production volume recognized by OPEC – be increased as that number then determines the level of production cuts and quotas it must adhere to under the group’s production agreements. Members cut the same percentage from their baseline, so a higher baseline would allow the UAE to have a larger production quota.

The United Arab Emirates initially called for its baseline to be raised from 3.2 million barrels per day to 3.8 million barrels per day. According to sources cited by the Wall Street Journal, the compromise reached between Saudi Arabia and its smaller neighbor will raise the UAE’s base value to 3.65 million barrels per day from April 2022. The reports have not been officially confirmed, and OPEC and the Saudi Department of Energy have not responded to CNBC requests for comment.

The original agreement, which was supported by most of the OPEC delegates, included a plan for the group to increase production to 400,000 barrels of crude oil a day per month by the end of 2022. This would end the remaining limits set in spring 2020. as the economic recovery and rising oil demand have pushed crude oil prices to their highest level since late 2018.

Researchers aren’t sure what is causing the condition, but there is some evidence that those with the condition have decreased levels of serotonin – a Chemical that stabilizes your mood. According to the National Institute of Mental Health, there is additional research suggesting that people with SAD may make too much melatonin – a chemical that is critical to sleep. As the NIMH notes, SAD is not a specific type of depression, but rather a subgroup of major depression that is catalyzed by seasonal stimuli.

There are symptoms that stay true regardless of the seasonal variation, but some symptoms are more common in summer or winter. The NIMH lists these symptoms that are more common in winter:

  • Overslept (hypersomnia)
  • Overeating, especially those with cravings for carbohydrates
  • Weight gain
  • Social withdrawal (feeling like “hibernation”)

And summer:

  • Difficulty sleeping (insomnia)
  • Loss of appetite leading to weight loss
  • Restlessness and excitement
  • anxiety
  • Episodes of Violent Behavior

SAD in summer is much rarer than its winter counterpart. Only about 1% of the US population will experience SAD symptoms during the summer or spring, according to Dr. Norman Rosenthal, a SAD expert and Clinical Professor of Psychiatry at Georgetown University School of Medicine, told time.

If you type “what is tartar” into a popular search engine, you will get a whole host of articles and blogs telling you it is tartaric acid. This is technically wrong, but that’s fine because it gives me the opportunity to talk about salt, one of my favorite topics. Although it is not pure tartaric acid itself, tartar is the potassium salt of tartaric acid, which means that there is a potassium atom where a hydrogen atom used to be. The chemical formulas for cream or tartar and tartaric acid are KC4H5O6 and C4H6O6, respectively. (Note that the acid still has an H.)

Tartaric acid occurs naturally in citrus fruits, bananas, tamarinds and – something known – grapes. It is a major player in winemaking, affecting the color, mouthfeel, and taste of the wine, and lowering the pH during fermentation, preventing the growth of harmful bacteria.

The solubility of tartaric acid is quite temperature dependent. At temperatures below 40 ° C, free tartaric acid combines with naturally occurring potassium, forms a salt and turns into “wine diamonds” in the barrel and (sometimes) on the cork of a specially chilled bottle. These crystals are tartar (also known as potassium bitartrate or potassium acid tartrate). It lowers the pH (and introduces more hydrogen ions) which changes the charge on the proteins and prevents them from binding too tightly.
