Tips on how to power restart an iPhone or iPad

If your iPhone or iPad is frozen or not recognizing touchscreen input, a forced restart may be required in order for it to work again. The Force Restart method allows you to shut down and restart iPhone without using the touch screen.

While it isn’t required very often, there are times when you want to force restart your device – in fact, I recently had to use the method myself. In my case, I was connecting an iPhone to a Mac when the phone got stuck in the “Trust this computer” pop-up window. The pop-up froze and none of the usual thawing tricks worked. (I tried calling the phone, but even the incoming call interface was showing under the pop-up and I couldn’t take the call.)

That left me with only one choice (other than waiting for the iPhone’s battery to run out, which I wasn’t patient enough to do): Force restart. Fortunately, it’s quick and easy.

Force restart iPhones and iPads without a home button

If your iPhone or iPad has Face ID (and therefore doesn’t have a Home button), here’s how to force a quick restart: Press volume up and release it, press Volume down and let go of it and finally hold that down Power button. You can release the power button as soon as the screen turns off. The Apple logo will appear on your screen and your iPhone or iPad will restart.

The same steps can force restart an iPhone 8 or an iPhone 8 Plus as well. Just press volume up, Volume down, and hold the Side button until those phones are restarted.

Force restart an iPhone 7, iPhone 7 Plus or an iPod touch (7th generation)

The keyboard shortcut to force restart is slightly different for iPhone 7, 7 Plus, and iPod touch. If you have one of these devices, you can force a restart by pressing the button. hold side (or top) button and the Volume down Press until the Apple logo appears on the screen.

Force restart an iPad with a Home button, an iPhone 6s or older device, or an iPod touch (6th generation)

If you have an iPad with a Home button, an iPhone 6s (or earlier), or an iPod touch (6th generation), you can force a quick restart if necessary. Just hold that Home button along with side (or top) button until the Apple logo appears on the screen.

There is no proof {that a} booster vaccination is required, says Dr. Ashish Jha

0

Covid booster doses are currently not required, said the dean of the School of Public Health at Brown University on Friday, as highly transmissible new variants test the protection of available vaccines.

“Let me tell you where we are: the data is very clear, if you got your two shots from Moderna or Pfizer or a single shot from J&J you have a very high level of protection against all variants, including Delta” said Dr. Ashish Jha. “I haven’t seen any evidence yet that anyone needs a third shot.”

Jha’s comments come after Pfizer and BioNTech announced Thursday that they are developing a Covid-19 booster shot that will target the Delta variant. Company officials say another vaccination may be needed as immunity to the vaccine appears to decline over time.

In CNBC’s The News with Shepard Smith, Jha emphasized the importance of waiting for the dates when it comes to a booster shot.

“When this evidence comes along, and of course we will want to take that into account, I think I think it is unlikely that we will need third shots for most people,” Jha said.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Food and Drug Administration issued a joint statement stating that Americans who are fully vaccinated do not need a booster vaccination.

“Americans who have been fully vaccinated currently do not need a booster vaccination. FDA, CDC, and [the National Institutes of Health] are involved in a science-based, rigorous process to check if or when a refresher might be needed, “said a joint statement released Thursday evening.

Alexandra Breckenridge on the Virgin River Cliffhanger River

0

Virgin River is back and may have outdone itself.

The Netflix drama has returned for season three and again ends on a shocking note, even if no one is in mortal danger (at least we hope not). In fact, this cliffhanger could actually have a much bigger impact than Jack (Martin Henderson) is shot in his kitchen, depending on which direction the authors choose. Season four (assuming there’s one) is going to be either really cute or really weird.

Basically Mel (Alexandra Breckenridge) is pregnant and the father is either Jack or her dead husband. She and Jack split briefly in the middle of the season, and that sent Mel to LA and the clinic that kept her dead husband’s frozen semen. It wasn’t entirely clear if she made it through to that final admission, and now we really wonder about Mel’s sanity and wellbeing.

“She wants a baby so badly that she goes to the fertility clinic and gets inseminated with her dead husband’s semen,” Breckenridge repeated to E! News. “That’s a big thing for a person to go out and do.”

Can you say it out loud.

Brittany went on and shared a few more opinions on the matter and the same sentence again: “A white woman seeking legal assistance against a black person … typical Karen s ** t.

“Again … DRY P *** Y ENERGY!”

Briana’s sister was also mentioned in court files Kailyn filed when she broke up after Brittany “physically assaulted” her while filming an August 2018 Teen Mom 2 reunion episode.

While the reality stars didn’t get along for a while, the drama between the TV personalities escalated when Briana claimed Kailyn was from the Aug. 8 episode of the reality show.

After Briana claimed her storylines replaced the mother of four, Kailyn caught the drama by heading to her Instagram story to try and slap her co-star.

The way to let go of parenting guilt and forgive your self

0

Image for the article titled How to Let Go of Parents' Guilt and Forgive YourselfPhoto: fizkes (Shutterstock)

There is a moment (or several moments) in each parent’s life that they wish they could take back. It could be as simple as the first time you raised your voice and made your child cry, the thoughtless saying that hurt their feelings, or the preventable accident that resulted in a trip to the emergency room. But after the tears dry and the wounds heal, there is a feeling that can linger in the hearts and minds of parents and caregivers, and that feeling is: guilt.

While they know everyone makes mistakes, some parents can find it hard to shake off the nagging feeling that they are not perfect in their children’s eyes. However, it is important for well-meaning parents to overcome their remorse and learn to acquit themselves for past slip-ups. Here are some ways parents can begin to forgive themselves for their mistakes – not just for their own health, but for their children as well.

Worry less about the future

Everyone gets mad at their children at some point. But as Dr. Laura Markham writes for Psychology Today, it is the fear of how our children “develop” that can lead parents to act irrationally at the moment:

(What if he NEVER finds out? What if she gets in big trouble and ruins her life? What if I’ve harmed him forever?) But fear never helps us make good decisions. You can now always choose a new course and move in a better direction. And the truth is that most problems with children are developmental, which means that as the brain matures, the child becomes more mature. So relax, give yourself some compassion, and trust that your child will be fine. Just tell yourself, “He’s brought up better than me and I got off well.”

If parents let this fear guide them in raising or disciplining their children, no one will learn from their mistakes. Children’s brains are still developing and maturing, so they’ll break down a or two (or a thousand) before they know how to manage their emotions. And you’re human too, so give yourself some grace when things get hot. Believe that everything will be fine – for it will – and don’t let your worries about the future affect your present.

Exemplary forgiveness

If parents cannot forgive each other for their mistakes, how are their children supposed to learn? As clinical psychologist Emily Edlynn writes for the Washington Post: Family struggles and their solutions are necessary for a child’s development. It describes a concept known as “break and repair” in family interactions research and describes how “an unfortunate moment can become an opportunity to model positive conflict-resolution behavior while maintaining closeness”.

G / O Media can receive a commission

But when parents feel guilty about stress in the relationship, they can stay in the “rupture” phase and not resolve anything. Edlynn explains:

If we can admit to our child that we were frustrated and felt bad about screaming, it allows the negative emotions to spread – and the all-important hug to stop interacting with warmth.

It is good to explain to our children why we are mad at them. But by acquitting them and ourselves for our feelings, we can teach forgiveness firsthand.

Don’t take things personally

Before going into their room in a fit of anger, the children will say things from a place of anger, the parents will break their hearts – and evoke feelings of guilt: “You are so mean!” “I hate you!” “I wish I was never born!”

It’s hard to hear such cruelty from someone you love and not take it personally. But it’s important to remember that children don’t really mean these cutting statements, and their anger doesn’t last forever. It’s tempting to let kids stew on their beds until they’ve calmed down, however Markham recommends Build your patience and talk to your children about why they are so angry. Let go of your emotional defenses and listen to what they have to say. This is not the time to give them advice or a lecture. Instead, focus on getting in touch with your child and the chances are the two of you will forget all those terrible words.

Regulate your own emotions

If you find yourself reconsidering the behavior that originally made you feel guilty, hit the situation’s reset button by taking a deep breath and trying again. Not only will you be able to get back on track, but it will also serve as an example for your child to self-regulate their emotions.

As the Child Mind Institute Points out that disciplining themselves later in life can become challenging for children when parents work too hard to relax their children after a meltdown:

“In these situations, the child essentially expects the parents to be external self-regulators,” says Dr. [Matthew] Rouse says. “If that’s a pattern that keeps coming up and a child can ‘outsource’ self-regulation, then it could develop as a habit.”

If parents forgive each other for past mistakes, they can become more confident caregivers and pass these valuable traits on to their children. So give yourself some grace, regulate your reactions, and learn to let go.

Tesla boss Musk is on trial Monday over $ 2.6 billion in SolarCity deal

Rashid Umar Abbasi | Reuters

Tesla CEO Elon Musk is due in court on Monday, and much is at stake – if he loses, he may have to pay more than $ 2 billion out of his sizable personal wealth.

Musk will be the first to witness a lawsuit defending his role in Tesla’s $ 2.6 billion acquisition of SolarCity. Shareholders have sued Musk and members of the Tesla board of directors, claiming the 2016 deal was a bailout for SolarCity.

They also claim that it has unfairly enriched the Musk family, which was among the largest shareholders, and that Musk and others failed to disclose all relevant details and breached their fiduciary duties. Musk has insisted that he be “completely withdrawn” from negotiating the deal.

Last year, the board members named in the lawsuit reached an agreement with Tesla shareholders over $ 60 million without admitting any wrongdoing. Musk, the second richest person in the world, was the only defendant to take the fight to court.

There is no convincing jury on this matter. His fate is determined by the Delaware Chancery Court Judge, Vice Chancellor Joseph Slights III.

Days in court

Musk has had its share of legal issues beyond SolarCity.

For example, the SEC sued him for fraud in 2018, with Musk and Tesla coming to an agreement and paying $ 20 million each. The charges came after Musk tweeted about taking Tesla private for $ 420 a share, a move that drove up Tesla’s share price. As one of the terms of the settlement, Musk had to temporarily resign from his position as chairman of Tesla.

In another case, he emerged victorious after cave explorer Vernon Unsworth said Musk defamed him when Tesla CEO called him the “pedo guy” on Twitter. His lawyers argued that “pedo guy” was heated rhetoric and not intended as a statement of fact.

Tesla and Musk are facing many other lawsuits, including one over Musk’s unprecedented compensation package for CEOs and a series of federal investigations into the company’s own financial records.

In the SolarCity case, the judge will have to determine whether Musk was a conflicted majority shareholder who met the “total fairness” standard in handling the SolarCity takeover.

In other words, was Musk acting in the best interests of Tesla shareholders? And has Musk told shareholders everything they should know?

This type of lawsuit, known as a shareholder derivatives lawsuit, is brought by investors on behalf of a company rather than by individuals or funds themselves. If the plaintiffs win, the proceeds can go to Tesla, not the parties who filed the lawsuit.

Company connections

According to a file filed with the firm’s court, Musk owned 22.1% of Tesla’s common stock and 21.9% of SolarCity at the time of the transaction. SolarCity was a troubled asset that shed money in the capital-intensive market for solar energy use in residential buildings.

Musk’s lawyers are expected to argue that the SolarCity deal did no harm to shareholders at all and that they voted overwhelmingly to approve the takeover. After all, Tesla shares fell from a closing price of $ 43.92 on June 21, 2016 – when Tesla announced it would be bidding for SolarCity – to a closing price of $ 656.95 on July 9, 2021 (Friday) a five-to-one share price soared last year.

The company is now also part of the S&P 500 and reports profits on a regular basis.

SolarCity was founded and run by Musk’s cousins Lyndon and Peter Rive, but supported by Musk, who served as chairman of the board. He has now also been Tesla’s CEO and chairman of the company.

It wasn’t his only potential conflict. SpaceX, Musk’s aerospace company, invested $ 255 million in SolarCity bonds from March 2015 to March 2016. Four members of Tesla’s board of directors directly or indirectly owned SolarCity shares at the time of the acquisition. And some Tesla board members also held shares in SpaceX and sat on the board.

How he opened it

For Musk and many of his supporters, the acquisition of SolarCity in 2016 was a natural combination of his companies and an opportunity for Tesla to pursue its environmental mission with a wider range of products. Homeowners could finance and install solar roof panels from the same company that provided their electric vehicle, home charging station, and a backup battery for energy storage.

Tesla had already started an energy division in late 2015 with a home battery called Powerwall and other large batteries for businesses and utilities.

By June 2016, Musk said Tesla would bid $ 2.8 billion to buy SolarCity. “I don’t think this means additional financial risk for Tesla,” he said at the time, calling a merger “blindly obvious”. However, Tesla investors were skeptical as the stock price plummeted more than 10% after the announcement.

In July 2016, Musk presented his vision of Tesla as an automotive innovator and renewable energy titan in his famous “Masterplan Part Deux”.

As CNBC previously reported, unsealed court documents, including emails between Musk and SolarCity executives, later revealed that he knew SolarCity was facing a “liquidity crisis” even as Tesla continued its acquisition.

“Three things have to happen to change investor sentiment: SolarCity solves its liquidity crisis, an LOI with Panasonic to address the production risk of solar cells, and a joint product demo,” Musk wrote to SolarCity executives in September of the same year. “Should be able to do all of this before the shareholders’ vote.”

In October 2018, Tesla and SolarCity jointly announced a combined solar roof and battery pack. Musk showed off what looked like a solar panel on the Hollywood set of Desperate Housewives, miniaturized and slim enough to be mistaken for high-end roofing materials.

After the deal

The hype event helped him turn investor sentiment. In November, the transaction was approved in a vote of 85% of the shareholders. But after the closure, Tesla’s SolarCity business would stall.

Over the years, the company repeatedly delayed the mass production of its solar glass roof tiles. The ones that Musk presented as a production-ready prototype in 2016 were actually a non-functional design prototype.

Walmart sued Tesla after fires broke out on panels the company installed on its facilities. A former Tesla Energy employee filed a whistleblower complaint with federal agencies about the fire hazard from Tesla’s solar roofs. And Panasonic left the Buffalo plant that Tesla had taken over when it became clear that Tesla would not manufacture its solar roof tiles there.

While Tesla’s solar roof tiles are yet to take off, the company’s energy storage products are by the wayside as demand for lower-cost electricity from renewable sources rises globally.

In the trial from Monday in Wilmington, Delaware, Musk will be represented by lawyers from Ross Aronstam & Moritz (David E. Ross, Garrett B. Moritz and Benjamin Z. Grossberg). The process is expected to run through July 23, 2021, unless the companies seek an agreement beforehand.

Why you should not (but) count on a COVID vaccine booster within the foreseeable future [Updated]

0

Vaccine vialsPhoto: Maria Kaminska (Shutterstock)

We don’t know how long protection will last from the COVID-19 vaccines, which has led to speculation that we may all need a booster vaccination – perhaps annually, like with flu shots – to stay protected. Pfizer recently announced they plan to apply for FDA approval for a booster dose of their vaccine soon.

But after a joint statement by CDC and FDA, People who finished their vaccinations six months ago are still well protected, and there is still no evidence that a booster vaccination is needed:

Americans who are fully vaccinated currently do not need a booster vaccination. The FDA, CDC, and NIH are working on a science-based, rigorous process to see if or when a refresher might be needed. This process takes into account laboratory data, clinical study data, and cohort data – which may include data from certain pharmaceutical companies, but are not solely reliant on that data. We will continue to review all new data as it becomes available and will keep the public informed. We are prepared for booster doses when science shows they are needed.

That doesn’t mean that boosters won’t be needed at some point, just that it isn’t time yet. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Advisory Committee on Vaccination Practices discussed the available data in a meeting in June. which you can see here in presentation slides. A working group that looked into the question suggested that boosters only be recommended if one of the following conditions is met:

  • When evidence shows vaccines are less effective, measured by the fact that more people get COVID despite being vaccinated. This has not happened yet.
  • If an “escape variant” has been discovered, ie a variant the COVID virus, which can evade vaccination protection. Nor did this happen.

G / O Media can receive a commission

The members of the panel appeared to agree with these criteria, although the topic was discussed only as food for thought and was not voted on.

It is possible that boosters will eventually be recommended for certain populations, even if they are not recommended for everyone. Research is still being conducted into whether People with weakened immune systems may benefit from them and whether the elderly who have received some of the earliest doses of the vaccine see their protection waning from the rest of us.

One panel member noted that patients requested booster doses based on media they had read, although booster doses did not currently exist and were not officially recommended.

What we know so far

We still don’t have a test that can tell with certainty whether a person is protected against COVID, but there is evidence that some type of blood test to neutralize antibody titers is linked to a lower chance of developing the disease. (Neutralizing antibodies are one way our bodies can fight off viruses, but they’re not the only one.)

Several studies have shown that these antibodies remain high enough to suggest protection at least eight months after COVID infection and at least six months after vaccination. Since the vaccine has not been available very long, we don’t have data that is much further away. One of the largest studies, called HEROES-RECOVER, is tracking health care workers and other key workers who began receiving the vaccine after it was approved in December 2020. This is the same study that recently found Pfizer and Moderna vaccines to be 91% effective under real conditions.

More data will be added. HEROES RECOVER employees will continue to be tracked, and vaccine manufacturers will also track people who have participated in their clinical trials. Further studies on the effectiveness of vaccines and immune responses to variants are ongoing. So at some point we may find out that we need boosters, but at the moment they are neither available nor needed.

This post was originally published June 2021 and updated on July 9, 2021 to include Pfizer’s announcement to apply for approval for a booster dose and the statement from the FDA and CDC in response.

When to see Mars and Venus “kissing”

The cosmos is in constant motion and in July the movements of the heavenly bodies are a particularly welcome pleasure for the local people. The two planets that are on either side of the earth – Mars and Venus – are on the verge of drifting relatively close to one another, at least in large space.

This planetary conjunction, or “kiss” as it is colloquially known, will begin in the early hours of Monday morning and last until Tuesday. Although it starts early, you don’t have to stay up early in the morning to catch a glimpse.

What is a conjunction?

It’s really simple: a conjunction is the passage of two or more celestial bodies. Last month that Moon and Mars are aligned in a higher conjunctionthat occurs when objects go into orbit behind the sun, sometimes making them visible to onlookers on the ground. Inferior conjunctions are less exciting because they involve objects floating in front of the sun, which affects their visibility.

It’s called a “kiss” because it’s a fleeting moment of symmetry. According to the BBC’s sky at night, Next week’s conjunction is a pretty normal stargazing tariff:

The most commonly observed conjunctions involve the moon, often as a sickle in the evening or morning sky, along with one of the bright planets – Venus, Mercury, Mars, Jupiter or Saturn.

Technically, two or more celestial bodies must maintain the same right ascension, or “ecliptic longitude in the sky,” for a true conjunction, as Sky at Night notes. Not all conjunctions fit the bill, and the one that comes up on Monday might be what you call a “conjunctive light,” since the Moon and Mars technically don’t have the same right ascension. these are the same coordinates, measured from east to west.

Either way, it should provide good visibility, especially if you have powerful binoculars or a telescope on hand.

How to see the conjunction of Mars and Venus

The planets meet around 2 a.m., Easter on Monday, July 12th Astronomy explains their closest association will not be until six hours later on Monday morning, when the planets are “separated by less than the diameter of a full moon”.

The United States doesn’t have the best lookout point in the world when it comes to taking in the views. The evenings of July 12th and 13th offer the same closeness between the two planets – about 33 degrees apart – visible in the US, which is the best our geography can afford.

Astronomy explains when to see the conjunction and where to look exactly on Tuesday evening:

On July 13, the pair becomes visible deep in the west about 45 minutes after sunset, local time. The two planets are initially 16 ° above the western horizon and then sink below 1 hour and 42 minutes after the sun.

Mars appears a little fainter than Venus, so you may need to “fade the twilight a bit so you can see the red planet,” the publication said. Your best chance of seeing the planets with some degree of vibrancy is with binoculars or a telescope and a few practical stargazing apps could also help your planetary aspirations.
