Learn how to decline a playdate and why you may wish to

As the world opens up again, invitations from their kids ‘friends light up all over parents’ phones for some good old-fashioned summer fun, which is a relief for many who have been locked up with their kids all day last year. Despite the increase in social activity among adults, a coronavirus vaccine for children under 12 will likely not arrive until later this year. Add to this the typical, non-pandemic reasons parents can be careful about saying yes to a certain game date, and our kids could face more social rejections than usual this summer. That’s fine – as long as we cautiously decline.

In spite of everything Safety precautions that families have in place for a game date, there will be times when the other family declines an invitation or doesn’t even respond, which can result in harm to the host child. But as those responsible for our children’s social activities and safety, parents have the opportunity to set an example of courtesy and kindness when invitations conflict with their wellbeing or schedule. Not everyone is comfortable in every situation, but ghosting another little kid is never cool.

Here are some reasons parents turn down game dates – and (hopefully) how to do it without embarrassment, harsh feelings, or tears.

Why parents refuse game dates

Playdates are popular because they give the non-adopting parents the opportunity to have some time to themselves and the children the opportunity to be social and independent with friends outside of the daycare or school structure. But sometimes parents just don’t feel comfortable leaving their child with another family.

G / O Media can receive a commission

A 2019 CS Mott Children’s Hospital’s National Children’s Health Survey asked parents of children between the ages of four and nine how they deal with invitations to game dates. If the game was at someone else’s home, more than 41 percent of respondents said they were concerned about having their children looked after, which ranks just above fear of swearing, pollutants, or injury – the latter is especially worrying when the other family has a pool or trampoline.

In addition, 17 percent of the parents surveyed said that their decision to accept a playdate was influenced by how well their child copes with strangers, more than 10 percent were worried about their child’s fear of pets, and around eight percent worried about the nutrition of their children kids or health.

If the kids are young enough not to be vaccinated (or the parents are concerned or don’t know the vaccination status of other family members), this may be reason enough to do a rain check at a game date this summer.

When should you decline a playdate?

While safety is the number one reason parents turn down game dates, the survey also found that fewer than half of parents asked another parent about safety concerns before a game date, and only one in four parents were asked these types of questions themselves . Some families assume their child safety values are shared, and many parents feel embarrassed to voice their concerns for fear of hurting another parent’s feelings or questioning their parenting skills.

However, the best way to find out if you and another parent share the same values about safety is pretty simple: ask them questions. The survey showed that most parents would not be offended if another parent discussed these issues before a game date. Some parents found it helpful to write a checklist to ensure that all safety issues (COVID or otherwise) are addressed and to discuss any food safety concerns before allowing their child to move to another home. If their answers are not to your satisfaction, then it’s time to decline this game date – nice.

How to politely decline a playdate

According to Romper‘Honesty is generally the best policy for declining a match date with decency and sensitivity. You may not want to fully explain the reasons for an invitation being turned down – be it related to social distancing, health concerns, or other matters – but most parents know that your child’s safety is more important than social engagement activity, and honestly too to be sure is better than to be caught telling a lie.

If you are too honest, you run the risk of offending the other parent, you can always let them down by saying that you are busy with “family time”. (Just don’t hang up a false rain check unless you want to be on the hook for a future meetup.) If you want to say yes but having the game date at their house gives you a break for some reason, you can make a change Suggest the venue to your home or a nearby park. You won’t get the time alone you crave, but you won’t be depriving your child of much-needed social time either.

Whatever you decide, answer quickly and politely so you don’t let the other child down.

In the case of sudden expenses, we depend on savings and emergency funds and we are all asked to put a certain percentage of our monthly income into one pot.

The pandemic and its impact on our financial security have damaged some of our savings and other bad habits.

Whether you’re a long-time saver or a brand new beginner, Money Advice Service has said it’s never too late to start saving and has compiled a list of tips to get you started or restart your current plan.

Savings can help with stressful emergency costs

Here are eight ways to start saving and learn the MoneyAdviceService.org saving habit

1. Pay off your debt first

The experts say that you are unlikely to earn more interest on your savings than you are paying on your loans. So try paying off expensive debts like credit cards, loyalty cards, and overdrafts before you start saving.

2. Start small

Even small amounts add up if you can save regularly, and if you save just £ 3 a day that adds up to £ 1,095 over a year.

3. Separate your savings

If you leave the money in your wallet or bank account, the more likely it will be spent. It helps keep your savings separate.

4. Earn interest on your money

Open an account with your bank or building society and earn interest on your savings.

When setting up an emergency fund, look for accounts where you can access your money when you need it instead of tying it up for long periods of time.

If you have a long-term savings goal, you can opt for a top-paying fixed-term deposit account.

Don’t ignore checking accounts.

Some currently pay higher interest rates provided you abide by all terms.

Whenever you use one checking account for your savings, keep a second checking account for your bills and expenses so that money doesn’t get mixed up.

5. Build yourself a savings cushion

As a rule of thumb, it is helpful to provide an emergency fund with enough money to cover the most important expenses for three months.

So if you spend £ 1,000 a month on bills like rent or mortgage, council tax, utility bills, groceries, etc, you need to save £ 3,000.

6. Set up a standing order

A standing order is an instruction to your bank to transfer money from one account to another at regular intervals. If you set up a standing order every month to deposit money into your savings account, your fund will soon grow.

7. Make a deposit after payday

If you put your savings aside right after cashing out, you are less likely to miss out on the money. Wait until the end of the month and the cash is much more likely to disappear into daily expenses.

8. Set yourself a savings goal

Write down what you are saving for and how much you will need to save each month to meet your goal. Then set a date when you want to have saved enough.

When will the ECB scale back the coronavirus stimulus PEPP?

LONDON – European Central Bank member Jens Weidmann has said the massive coronavirus stimulus plan should be scaled back “step by step” but others are concerned about the measures being lifted prematurely.

The big question on the ECB’s table is when will the pandemic emergency purchase program – known as PEPP – be lifted, which is currently set to last through March 2022 and total 1.85 trillion euros (2.2 trillion US dollars). The ECB could end it before or after this estimated date. Market participants have asked themselves the same question in view of the stronger economic data in the euro area.

“I see two prerequisites for completely ending net purchases under the PEPP,” said Jens Weidmann, a Hawkish member of the ECB and governor of the German central bank, according to the CNBC translation at the Frankfurt Euro Finance Summit on Monday.

That would be the complete lifting of Covid-19-related restrictions like social distancing and a solid economic recovery, he added.

In order not to have to end the PEPP suddenly, however, the net purchases could be reduced gradually in advance.

The path of the pandemic is uncertain, however, and despite strong economic data in recent weeks, there are concerns that an early lifting of stimulus measures would undermine the economic recovery even further.

“When the pandemic is over and the economic consequences of the pandemic wear off, PEPP will be finalized – that was, you know, the original goal,” said Luis de Guindos, Vice President of the ECB, said CNBC’s Annette Weisbach on Monday at the same conference.

De Guindos reiterated that the Governing Council has not yet officially started talking about when the incentives should end.

“But my approach is very, very simple. I think we should try to avoid cliff effects,” said de Guindos. “I think we should try to make this as smooth as possible and always take into account the development of the economy and inflation.”

In order to avoid this so-called “cliff edge” situation, Weidmann called for the pandemic-related incentives to be withdrawn “gradually”.

“Due to the still existing uncertainty, we cannot determine the exit from the monetary policy crisis mode far in advance. In order not to have to end the PEPP suddenly, however, the net purchases could be reduced step by step in advance, ”said Weidmann.

Inflation in the euro area

The main monetary policy objective of the ECB is to keep inflation below but close to 2%. Although the region struggled to boost inflation in the wake of the global debt crisis and the sovereign debt crisis, there has recently been a massive rise in prices.

Inflation in the euro zone rose to 2% in May, slightly above the ECB’s target. This has been linked to the relaxation of the various social distancing rules in the euro-19 countries and consumer willingness to spend more.

ECB President Christine Lagarde said earlier this month that the rise in inflation was temporary and that this indicator would remain below the bank’s target for the foreseeable future.

“Inflation has been increasing in recent months, mainly due to base effects, temporary factors and an increase in energy prices. It is expected to continue to rise in the second half of the year before declining as temporary factors subside,” she said a press conference on June 10th

However, higher inflation figures and persistently strong economic indicators are likely to fuel this debate in the Governing Council, which will meet in September.

In June, the ECB estimated that real gross domestic product will exceed its pre-crisis level from the first quarter of 2022, a quarter earlier than previously forecast.

According to Weidmann, these forecasts show that 2022 will no longer be an “extraordinary” year or a “time of crisis”, which underpins his argument for reducing monetary policy impulses.

Now disconnect these Western Digital NAS drives

Network Attached Storage (NAS) devices are external hard drives with network connectivity. They are essentially private cloud drives that you can set up at home to access your files remotely. They’re handy, but if you’re using a Western Digital My Book Live and My Book Live DUO NAS drive, disconnect it from your wireless network immediately to keep your data safe from hackers.

According to popular user reports, outsiders can remotely access the NAS drives using the WD My Book Live app. Once inside, the hacker steals the stored files and then does a factory reset that wipes out all of the stored data. Data cannot be recovered after a system reset, making this a particularly devastating attack.

Ordinarily, users would expect a security patch to fix such a serious problem. Unfortunately, Western Digital stopped supporting the affected NAS drives in 2015 and the devices have not received a new firmware update since then. That explains why the vulnerability existed in the first place, but it also means that a patch may never come. According to an official Declaration on the Western Digital website:

Western Digital has discovered that some My Book Live devices have been compromised by malicious software. In some cases, this tradeoff has resulted in a factory reset that appears to erase all data on the device.

However, Western Digital has not confirmed whether a patch will fix the problem, saying:

The My Book Live device received its last firmware update in 2015. We know that our customers’ data is very important. At this point, we recommend that you disconnect your My Book Live from the Internet to protect your data on the device.

G / O Media can receive a commission

Users should check their drives immediately. If you see “Invalid Password” on the dashboard login screen (and you’ve confirmed that you are using the correct login information), someone may have erased the drive. If you can still log in and your data is still available, you should remove your drive from the network to prevent the attack. While you cannot access the drive remotely, you can connect it directly to your PC or laptop using an Ethernet cable.

  1. Turn off your computer’s WiFi connection.
  2. Connect the computer and the NAS drive with an Ethernet cable.
  3. Restart your computer.
  4. The NAS drive light should turn on and appear on your PC’s storage devices.
  5. If you have any problems, please contact Western Digital support page for troubleshooting Help.

India’s new mortgage ensures could have a restricted affect on the Covid-hit financial system

India has put in a series of rupees 6.3 trillion ($ 84.9 billion) of measures to boost the Covid-hit economy – but economists are skeptical that this will have a big impact on short-term growth.

The impact of these measures – amounting to around 2.8% of GDP – on the country’s budget deficit target is expected to be comparatively small.

Economists pointed out that most of the support comes in the form of loan guarantees, rather than direct incentives like checks paid directly to households. In addition, some of the measures have already been announced and have already been included in the calculations.

For the current fiscal year ending March 2022, India’s budget deficit target is around 6.8% of GDP. A budget deficit is the gap between a government’s income and spending, and it means that the country spends more than its income.

“While the headline impact of the announcements is significant, most of them were loan guarantees, which made the net financial impact less,” said Radhika Rao, an economist with DBS Group in Singapore, in a statement Tuesday.

She explained that some measures – such as subsidies, free grain and child health support – could likely have an impact on the budget deficit. However, there could be “some headroom” through higher nominal GDP and a likely re-prioritization of existing spending to minimize the risk of the budget deficit target being exceeded.

What was announced?

Treasury Secretary Nirmala Sitharaman announced several support measures on Monday, including providing around $ 35 billion in loan guarantees to help small businesses and sectors adversely affected by the pandemic.

Sitharaman said the government will provide 1.1 trillion rupees ($ 14.8 billion) in additional loans to businesses in sectors such as health care, tourism and other.

The government will also expand the emergency credit line guarantee program by an additional 1.5 trillion rupees ($ 20.2 billion) from an earlier limit of 3 trillion to 4.5 trillion rupees.

The program enables banks and non-bank lenders to provide emergency loans to eligible borrowers to conduct their businesses, and these loans are guaranteed by the government that covers default risks for lenders.

When it was launched, the program was seen as a relief for India’s micro, small and medium-sized enterprises, which are under pressure due to the crisis ravaged by the pandemic.

India also announced a loan guarantee program for microfinance institutions, which usually provide loans to the country’s smallest borrowers such as small business owners. The government will spend an additional $ 12.6 billion through November to provide free grain to millions of people.

Stimulating growth

Recent support measures were similar to the government’s response to India’s first wave of the coronavirus outbreak last year, Rao told CNBC via email. Monday’s announcement aimed to improve the flow of credit to the hardest hit sectors and households at risk, she said.

“Most of the fiscal boost comes on the supply side rather than a direct boost in demand that curbs the extent of the immediate growth stimulus,” she said. The continued reopening of the economy and improvement in vaccination progress are likely to be “bigger catalysts for near-term recovery,” she added.

India’s economy grew 1.6% year over year from January to March this year.

Economists have warned that April-June GDP pressures – the first quarter of the current fiscal year – may not reflect the full picture of the crisis in South Asia’s largest economy due to a devastating second wave of the coronavirus outbreak.

Aditi Nayar, chief economist at the rating agency ICRA, the Indian subsidiary of Moody’s, also pointed out that the success of loan guarantees depends on how many new loans are paid out by the lenders.

Budget deficit target

Economists pointed out that the loan guarantees will have limited up-front costs to the government.

Nomura’s Sonal Varma and Aurodeep Nandi said in a note that the fiscal stimulus announced during the second wave of the outbreak, including Monday’s measures, account for around 0.59% of GDP. Combined with the additional government spending on free Covid-19 vaccines, the total fiscal impact is expected to be around 0.65% of GDP for the current year.

Still, Nomura expects India to exceed its budget deficit target of 6.8% due to additional spending and potentially lower divestment figures. The Japanese investment bank revised its budget deficit estimate for the current year to 7.1% of GDP.

Some of Monday’s economic measures worth Rs 2.4 trillion will be spread over the next two to four years by the ICRA, according to Nayar. “Some of these had already been announced at the time of the budget, so part of their cost was already taken into account,” she said in a note.

DBS’s Rao estimates the deficit could exceed the target by 0.3% to 0.5% of GDP.

Methods to Ship Textual content Messages with Particular Results in Messages on iPhone

If you send “Congratulations” or “Happy Birthday” to someone who uses Messages on an iPhone, they will get a little surprise: a rain of confetti or a few festive balloons rain or float on their screen along with your words. It’s a nice little trick embedded in the messaging platform – but it’s also something you can trigger yourself for every message you send.

To send a text with improved animation effects, long press the blue arrow key while sending a text. This will open a panel called “Send with Effect” which will allow you to send your texts with additional pizzaz.

There are two different ways to send your texts this way and you can choose how you want to do it at the top: balloon or screen. The bubble effect – which has been around for a while and which you’ve probably used before – changes how your text message appears on the recipient’s phone as soon as you choose from a handful of options:

  • Slam: The text of your message seems to pop up on the screen
  • According to: The text appears to the reader to burst
  • Gently: The text appears small and slowly grows to normal size
  • Invisible ink: The message appears as a cloud of points that the recipient must touch to reveal it. (The message is covered up again after you read it – a useful trick if you don’t want people to read over your shoulder.)

But the other section that you might not notice if you don’t know it’s there is is screenthat complements your text message with a full screen effect. Tap on it to review your options. However, unlike the bubble area, you have to swipe from left to right to select the effect:

  • Echo: Duplicates your text message and sends it around the screen. (This is especially fun if you have a few emojis, but if you use more than four, they will appear on a line rather than as individual characters.)
  • Headlights: Dims the screen and highlights your text.
  • Balloons: Accompany every text message with a cloud of balloons.
  • Confetti: Sends a rain of confetti with your text.
  • Love: Sends a huge heart with your text.
  • Laser: Next to your text, send a little laser show.
  • Fireworks: Fireworks explode while your message is being delivered
  • Celebration: This shoots a celebratory shower of sparks from one corner of the screen.

In general, these effects don’t stack up – with the exception of Echo, which can replicate, and the Bubble effects, in a cloud of messages that cover the entire screen. First select your bubble effect, then swipe to the screen and select “Echo”. (At this point in time, layering doesn’t work with other screen effects like Love or Celebration).

The effects are a nice way to enhance your texts (and you can tap under any text to play it back). If they don’t appear – or if you don’t want them to appear – you can toggle them on or off in below Settings> Accessibility> AutoPlay Message Effects. Apple also lets you send regular text messages with these effects, although they’re only visible to other message users.
