As you may know Gian Franco Rodriquez from his last role as Roy Halston’s longtime lover Victor Hugo in the hit Netflix miniseries Halston. And like any busy actor, he has a handful of things he can’t live without, whether on set, while traveling, or at home. But unlike his character in Halston, his must-haves are pretty relatable.

From toiletries to portable speakers and sweet treats, the actor has his priorities clear! However, he sees his family and his job as the keys to his happiness.

“There are two things that make me happiest. Being with my family and working on a good project on the set,” said the Venezuelan actor. “I have always been very close to my family. And having to leave my country and my family made me appreciate every moment we can spend together even more. When we are together, it is my favorite time of the year. And when.” I’m on set I feel very fulfilled. I forget that there is another world out there and I am learning this other reality that we have created. It’s very magical and I love to be fully immersed in it. “

Household bills are one of those things that can add up quickly – and nobody wants to overcharge their bills if they don’t have to.

Fortunately, there are small changes that can result in long-term savings, and experts have compiled a list of areas where bills can be cut.

Nima Ghasri, GoodMove director for regulated homebuyers, said, “We all know how quickly household bills can add up, especially over the past year when so many of us have spent a lot of time at home.

Fortunately, there are several ways you can reduce your weekly household bills, but it’s just a matter of knowing where to start. So we decided to put together some of our top tips to help you save some money. “

Turning the heating down just one degree can save you 10% on energy costs

Here is the list of seven saving hot spots.

1. Organize your utilities

An effective way to cut your household bills is to keep your utility bills in order, with the average standard variable rate being around £ 1,125 per year. 1

Easy ways to do this is to simply remember to turn off appliances when plugged in, or get smart plugs instead. In addition, washing at a lower level will reduce the temperature, which in turn will lower your energy consumption. If you want to keep saving, you can have better control of your heating by installing a smart thermostat or even investing in energy-efficient equipment.

2. Rethink your broadband package

While decent broadband and WiFi are hugely important to many of us (especially with more of us working from home than ever before), there are ways you can try to save some money. Do you really need the deluxe package or the fastest speed for a family of five? If not, reduce your package.

Haggling with your supplier is another way to cut costs. as the saying goes, if you don’t ask, you get nothing. Make sure you stand up and try to negotiate a lower price or other incentive.

3. Check if you are entitled to reduce monthly bills

The council tax is based on where you live, but there are certain other criteria that can entitle you to reduced monthly bills.

For example, if you have a low income, you may be eligible for universal credit, unemployment benefit, pension credit, or income support. Are you a student or a member of the household? Or you or another member of your household has a physical or mental disability. If you are the only adult in your household, you will also receive a 25% reduction in council tax.

4. Reduce your water consumption

Currently the average annual water bill in England is £ 408. So if you’re happy with your fixed plan, you can stick with this method. 2 However, if you are on a budget, there are a few very simple ways to reduce your water usage.

Basic steps you can take are to spend less time in the shower, turn off the tap when you shave and brush your teeth, and limit how often you flush the toilet. Other options are to only use the washing machine with a full load and fill the dishwasher instead of doing the dishes at the sink, and if you don’t have a dishwasher, use a dishwasher.

5. Learn how to prepare meals

Food and drink make up a large chunk of a person’s household bills, so being able to cut costs here can make a real difference. Try to create a weekly meal plan to avoid unnecessary trips to the grocery store, spread ingredients over multiple meals, and prepare servings in large quantities, which will also help reduce waste.

6. Comparison of suppliers

Probably one of the most popular ways to cut your household bills is by using a price comparison portal. That way, you may find that it’s cheaper to switch suppliers, or if you can find an equivalent product cheaper elsewhere, you can always call your current supplier to request a price adjustment.

7. Pay on time

It may seem obvious, but paying your household bills on time is crucial, especially if you are using a credit card, as it can also affect your credit score and nobody wants to be charged a late fee.

It can be helpful to set up a direct debit plan because then you no longer have to worry about transferring the money. However, be sure to double-check your bank statements to make sure everything is correct and up to date. If you’d rather do it manually, make sure you set reminders so you don’t miss any deadlines. Try to make it so that your monthly bills coincide with payday. When you’ve got your expenses sorted for the day you get paid, you can enjoy the rest of the month with peace of mind.

You need to add some salt to your subsequent shrub

You need to add some salt to your subsequent shrub

I’m not a big baker, so my favorite methods, “use upOne or two flat berries usually include the meal unbeaten cream or spread their juices with a whole bunch of sugar and then make them a bush (also known as “drinking vinegar”) made from this vividly coated syrup.

I usually use a ratio of 2 cups of sugar and 2 cups of vinegar for every pound of fruit, but yesterday I added a pinch of salt to my Hood strawberry bush and found it instantly improved. It’s not that the shrub was displeasing in its unsalted state. It was everything it was supposed to be – very sour and very sweet, fantastic when diluted with a large glass of cold seltzer (or sparkling wine that I enjoyed yesterday afternoon).

This pinch of salt did not diminish the berry sweetness of the shrub or its sourish brightness. It just did what salt does best: it softened sugar’s stickier properties and soothed some of the vinegar’s pungent, sour bite, which brought the strawberry – which is the star, after all – to the fore.

The only thing that surprises me is that I didn’t think of doing it sooner. Adding salt to drinks– especially in the summer months – is a time-honored practice here at Lifehacker. Salt is the great flavor rounder, the powerful contrasting agent – salt brings out the best in foods by making them taste like themselves.

The amount of salt your shrub needs depends on the particular fruit and the amount of vinegar you add. I always start with a pound of berries, mix it with 2 cups of sugar (in this case 1 cup white and 1 cup brown), let it sit for a few days, then strain and measure out the syrupy juices. I then pour in about half that amount of vinegar, taste it, and add more if needed. Now, once I’ve adjusted the acidity, I add a pinch of salt, stir, taste, and repeat until the shrub tastes better, but not exactly salty. If that sounds vague, don’t fret. You will know when you hit that “better but not salty” point because you will find yourself reaching for the seltzer (or sparkling wine, depending on the time of day).

Boris Johnson is delaying the easing of the lockdown in England

Boris Johnson is delaying the easing of the lockdown in England

UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson gives an update on the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic during a virtual press conference at 10 Downing Street in central London, UK on March 18, 2021.

Tolga Akmen

LONDON – Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced on Monday a four-week delay until the next phase of reopening the UK lockdown amid a surge in the Delta variant of Covid-19, first discovered in India.

The rules for using face masks, limiting the number of people who can meet indoors and outdoors, and closing nightclubs and similar venues were due to be lifted on June 21, but that has now been postponed to July 19 Limited to six people indoors and 30 people outdoors.

Johnson said at a press conference on Monday evening that he thought it would make sense to wait a little longer.

“The way things are and the evidence I can see now. I’m confident it won’t take us more than four weeks,” he told reporters.

New figures from Public Health England show that 42,323 cases of the Delta variant of the coronavirus have now been confirmed across the UK, a 240% increase from last week, while the country’s transmission rate is at its highest level since January.

More than 70 million doses of vaccine have been given across the UK, with around 80% of the country now receiving at least one dose. However, a Public Health England newspaper in late May showed that the Pfizer and AstraZeneca vaccines were only 33% effective against the Delta variant after a single vaccination.

New data from Monday showed much better effectiveness against the Delta variant after two doses. Public Health England said the Pfizer BioNTech vaccine is 96% effective against hospitalization after two doses and the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine is 92% effective.

Johnson said Monday that the vaccination program will be accelerated yet again so that people over 40 years of age are now receiving their second dose of vaccine earlier than expected. Weddings in England are also allowed to have more than 30 guests from June 21st, a relaxation of restrictions that will be carried out as planned.

The situation will be reviewed on June 28th.

When the fourth and final stage of the government’s “roadmap” from the lockdown is implemented, all legal restrictions on social contacts will be lifted. In phase three on May 17, indoor restaurants and entertainment venues as well as domestic overnight stays and international travel were reopened, which are subject to a traffic light system.

All three previous phases of the roadmap, which gradually withdrew the strict nationwide lockdown measures from mid-December to March, have progressed as planned.

Investors didn’t seem too concerned about the potential of restrictions for another month, however, as the UK’s FTSE 100 closed around 0.3% on Monday.

“Leisure businesses could be hardest hit by a delay in the UK lockdown easing, as it requires social distancing rules to continue, which means pubs and restaurants cannot operate at full capacity,” said Russ Mold, Investment Director at the British stockbroker AJ Glocke.

“However, risk doesn’t seem to bother investors too much, perhaps because speculation suggests a delay of just four weeks, albeit during a seasonally busy time.”

Paul Dales, UK chief economist at Capital Economics, said in a research note on Monday that a four-week delay in easing final domestic restrictions will fall beyond the 21st.

“While there is a clear risk of Freedom Day being postponed again, COVID-19 is unlikely to leave big scars on the size of the economy as long as further delays can be measured in weeks instead of months,” he said.

Do you remember cinemas? Do you remember cinemas in summer?

It has been a long time (463 days as of this writing) since the last time I sat in a large, darkened room with strangers for some great big-screen conversation (in this case cats). I really hope to do it again soon – but unfortunately I don’t know if that will happen this summer as I want to wait until my children can be vaccinated. And that’s a shame, because there’s nothing like taking a break from the agonizing summer heat in the icy confines of a cinema – especially when you’re seeing something big, loud and exaggerated there.

Yes, ever since Jaws scared people back into the water in 1975, summer has been considered the high season to go to the movies, at least for certain movie tastes: Usually loud, often full of thrills, and most likely overloaded with special effects. Summer blockbusters have a reputation for being silly and superficial; while it need not be, it is certainly true that the defining examples of form prefer to impress you with spectacle rather than make you think (not that there is anything wrong with that).

To celebrate the return of Hot Weather Movies after the pandemic with the upcoming release of Fast 9 in the US (which will definitely be very loud and guaranteed to be more fun the less you think while watching it), Lifehacker employees share our favorite summers -Blockbusters of the last 20 years. To be considered, a movie doesn’t have to have hit the box office (though most of them did), nor has it been released in what the calendar strictly defines as summer – I think we all agree that, as for the movies, the peak season starts in May and ends in August. What they have to offer is a ride.

Why Kate Middleton’s children aren’t followers of her pictures

Why Kate Middleton’s children aren’t followers of her pictures

To frustrated parents out there: Children will get annoyed while taking pictures, even if a duchess is behind the camera.

That was what Kate Middleton revealed during a phone call with Ceri Edwards. Her chat, newly shared on the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s YouTube channel, took place in the Fall of 2020 and is one of several Middleton with finalists in the National Portrait Gallery’s Hold Still exhibition, which she sponsored. With 100 final portraits, the exhibit was meant to capture Britain during its first lockdown. Edwards’ touching portrait of her daughter Poppy Hugging her dad before going to work as a medic during the coronavirus pandemic made the cut.

While the women had only just met on the phone, Edwards and Middleton could identify themselves as mothers, especially when it came to photographing their children. As Edwards said to the Duchess, “I take a lot of pictures of the family.”

Middleton quipped in agreement, “It’s like mine. Everyone says, ‘Mummy, please stop taking pictures.'” You and Prince William are known to be parents of three children: Prince George, 7, Princess Charlotte, 6, and Prince Louis, 3.

Novavax says its Covid vaccine is 90% efficient, plans FDA submitting within the third quarter

Biotech company Novavax said Monday its Covid-19 vaccine had been shown to be safe and 90.4% overall effective in a Phase III clinical trial involving nearly 30,000 participants in the United States and Mexico.

In addition, the two-dose vaccine was found to be 100% effective in preventing moderate and severe illness, and 93% effective in some variants. The company plans to file a regulatory filing with the Food and Drug Administration in the third quarter.

The late-stage study “confirms that NVX-CoV2373 has an encouraging tolerability and safety profile,” said Dr. Gregory Glenn, President of Research and Development at Novavax, in a press release. “These data show consistent, high efficacy and reaffirm the vaccine’s ability to prevent COVID-19 amid the virus’ s ongoing genetic evolution.”

The company’s shares rose more than 9% in pre-trading hours. In intraday trading, the share gained around 1%.

With an abundance of vaccines already available in the US, it is possible that the government could donate the Novavax doses to other countries.

Stanley Erck, CEO of Novavax, told CNBC that the company also expects a large market for booster vaccinations in the US. That’s because researchers see a drop in antibody levels after 6 to 12 months, he said.

“It is clear that we will all need a boost and then maybe annually or for a certain period of time,” he said in an interview with Squawk on the Street on Monday.

The company’s analysis evaluated 77 confirmed Covid infections among the 29,960 participants in the study. Novavax said 63 cases of Covid were seen in the placebo group, up from 14 cases seen in the group that received their two-dose vaccine. That resulted in an estimated vaccine effectiveness of 90.4%, it said.

The vaccine also appeared to be well tolerated, the company said. The most common side effects were fatigue, headache, muscle aches and pain at the injection site, which usually didn’t last more than two or three days, the company said.

All Covid hospital admissions in the study were in the placebo group, the company said.

Novavax said the vaccine appears to be effective against a few variants, including the alpha variant, which was first identified in the UK. About 65% of the cases where sequence data were available were of worrying variants, the company said.

If Novavax’s vaccine is FDA approved, it would follow three Covid-19 vaccines already approved in the U.S. by Pfizer-BioNTech, Moderna, and Johnson & Johnson for emergency use.

The new data comes as federal officials say the U.S. has more than enough doses of Covid vaccine to vaccinate the entire American population. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, more than 173 million Americans had received at least one dose of a Covid-19 vaccine as of Sunday.

The Biden government has already committed to donating at least 20 million doses of Covid vaccines from Pfizer-BioNTech, Moderna and J&J, and 60 million doses of AstraZeneca’s vaccine, which is not yet approved for use in the United States

Earlier this month, the White House announced it was lifting restrictions under the Defense Production Act, which gives the US priority to vaccines developed by AstraZeneca, Sanofi and Novavax.

Erck said Monday that delivery of the company’s vaccine doses in the US could be directed to COVAX, the WHO-supported immunization program, and places like India, where the virus is rapidly circulating.

Novavax said Monday it is still on track to hit production capacity of 100 million cans per month by the end of the third quarter and 150 million cans per month by the fourth quarter of 2021.

That is how yow will discover out in case your air conditioner has the appropriate power capability on your room

It would be pretty handy if a portable air conditioner could fit right in your window and cool your home instantly, but the size of the room is the most important consideration in your search for a satisfactory air conditioner. You don’t want to put a smaller unit in front of a large, expansive room, hoping it will recover from the heat.

The size and energy capacity must be directly related to the size of your room. That sounds logical enough, but it is imperative that you purchase the right device so that you don’t break a sweat all summer or turn your living room into an ice box.

How to Find the Right Portable Air Conditioner

The basics are simple enough. You should measure your window, or if you are lucky enough to have a slot for an AC unit, measure this. The majority of the major retailers will have options, including Amazon, Home Depot, and Best Buy. Once you have the sizing, there are more important considerations to consider: How many BTUs you will need.

There are two different types of portable AC units: those that sit in your window and two-hose portable units that don’t sit in windows or slots in a wall. You will mostly see models with two hoses that cool larger spaces – like a library, for example – that don’t have central air conditioning. For our purposes we stick with the wall / window units as it is about cooling your apartment or house.

What are BTUs?

The metric for the energy consumption of portable air conditioners is the British Thermal Unit, or BTU. More precisely than the plumbing Website BHI Service writes, “A BTU refers to the amount of energy required to raise the temperature of a pound of water by 1 ° F.”

G / O Media can receive a commission

All devices have a BTU rating, a number that explains the energy range and performance of the air conditioning system. Basically, the higher the BTU, the more energy the device consumes, but also the higher its capacity for cooling down a larger room. Or think of it this way: high BTUs are good for cooling large rooms, while lower BTUs should be enough for a smaller room.

They are Online tools to help you understand which BTU rating is correct for your square footage, but you can also calculate the numbers yourself. How Notes on consumer reports, “Air conditioning uses 20 BTU per square foot of living space.” Most AC units have ranges from 5,000 to 12,500 BTU, according to the release notes, so you can use those criteria to assess your needs.

How many BTUs do you need for your room?

Your living room or bedroom may not be the easiest place to cool off, especially if it has large windows directly under the sun or high ceilings that trap warm air.

Since certain details are likely to determine your purchasing needs, the AC manufacturer has Sylvane offers instructions:

  • 7,500 BTUs cover 150 square feet x 2.40 meters of ceiling = 1,200 cubic feet
  • 9,000 BTUs cover 200 square feet x 2.40 meters of ceiling = 1,600 cubic feet
  • 10,000 BTUs cover 300 square feet x 2.40 meters of ceiling = 2,400 cubic feet
  • 12,000 BTUs cover 400 square feet x 2.40 meters of ceiling = 3,200 cubic feet
  • 13,000 BTUs cover 450 square feet x 2.40 meters of ceiling = 3,600 cubic feet
  • 14,000 BTUs cover 500 square feet x 2.40 meters of ceiling = 4,000 cubic feet

When it comes to measuring your square footage, Consumer Reports says, “To measure your space, multiply length by width. Add the size of the rooms that are not separated by doors, as the air conditioning system has to cool both rooms. ”

Hopefully this will give you some thought about the right air conditioner to cool your supposedly humid home this summer.

S&P 500 futures have hardly modified, benchmark at document stage, Nasdaq futures are profitable

S&P 500 futures were stable in early morning trading Monday as investors digested the S&P 500 record high a week ago with an important meeting of the Federal Reserve.

Dow Jones Industrial average futures rose 11 points. S&P 500 futures were flat.

The Nasdaq 100 futures were the relatively standout performer, up 0.2%.

Investors give growth and technology stocks another chance as bond yields plummet. US 10-year Treasuries fell below 1.43% on Friday, a three-month low. Cathie Woods Ark Innovation, an ETF focused on disruptive technologies, returned around 6% last week.

Tesla CEO Elon Musk boosted sentiment in the cryptocurrency, saying on Sunday that the company will resume Bitcoin transactions once it confirms miners are using reasonable clean energy consumption. Bitcoin rebounded above $ 39,000 on the news.

Tesla, also a big holder of Bitcoin, gained about 1% in pre-market trading. Other major tech stocks like Nvidia and Zoom also gained in pre-trading hours.

The Fed’s two-day monetary policy meeting is likely to dominate investor behavior this week. Even if the central bank is not expected to take any action, its forecasts on interest rates, inflation and the economy could move the markets. The Fed could potentially raise its rate hike forecast after saying in its last quarterly update that it would keep its key rate near zero through 2023, the Wall Street Journal reported on Monday.

Fed chairman Jerome Powell speaks to the press after the central bank released its statement Wednesday, and traders will analyze his comments for clues as to when the Fed might begin to end its aggressive monthly asset purchases, especially given the recent one Inflation that was hotter than expected readings.

“In light of the recent oversized inflation reports, this week’s Federal Reserve meeting will be scrutinized for any tell-tale evidence that the Fed’s schedule is moving forward to either hike rates or cut QE,” said Jim Paulsen, chief investment strategist at the Leuthold Group, said CNBC.

“Any evidence to suggest that monetary tightening is proceeding is likely to create volatility in the equity market,” added Paulsen.

US stocks closed last week with a record closing high for the S&P 500 and beginning a rotation back into growth stocks.

Last week, the 30 stocks Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 0.8%, but the S&P 500 rose 0.4% for the third positive week in a row. The Nasdaq Composite outperformed nearly 1.9% for its fourth consecutive week of success as tech trading came back into fashion.

“As the S&P 500 index hit another new record high last week, investors will be watching to see if this signals higher levels in the short term,” said Paulsen.

Meme stocks also got attention last week. AMC Entertainment, Clover Health Investments, GameStop, and more experienced volatile trading as the group continued to attract the attention of social media investors on Reddit.
