LONDON – British Prime Minister Boris Johnson warned on Friday that the variant of the coronavirus, first discovered in India, has the potential to prevent the easing easing currently underway in the country.

The UK is now set to accelerate the second dose of vaccine for those over 50 and clinically at risk due to concerns about the Indian variant.

At a news conference on Friday, Johnson said the variant was more transmissible than other strains but warned it was not clear by how much. The English chief physician Chris Whitty speaks alongside Johnson, added that there is “confidence” that it is “more transferable” than the variants already circulating in the country.

Whitty said, “Earlier this week we said we thought it was as transferable as B.1.1.7 and possibly even more. There is now confidence … that this variation is more transferable than B.1.1.7 . “

The B.1.1.7 variant, known as the UK or Kent strain, has an unusually high number of mutations and is associated with more efficient and faster transmission of the coronavirus. British scientists first discovered this mutation in September last year, and it was the dominant strain in the United States by April

Johnson added that there is currently no evidence that the variant would dodge the vaccines that are being used across the country.

“But I have to measure myself with you, this new variant could seriously disrupt our progress,” said Johnson.

“And I have to emphasize that we will do everything we can to protect the public.”

Data on the new variant, released Thursday by Public Health England, showed the number of cases across the UK had increased from 520 last week to 1,313 this week, with most cases in North West England and some clusters concentrated in London.

The introduction of vaccines in the UK was one of the fastest in the world. Almost 70% of the adult population received at least one shot. Vaccines are available to anyone over the age of 38, but the government has said they could be made available to younger people in multi-generational households.

The next phase of England’s exit from the lockdown is slated for Monday, when the conviviality, hospitality and indoor entertainment will resume.

The first film I saw with Moses was The Ten Commandments in 1956. The last one I saw was the 2014 Exodus: Gods and Kings. In between was the perfect version – not just for a Bible story, but for movies in general – and that was the Prince of Egypt. Growing up in a deeply devout home, I wasn’t even allowed to go to theaters when I was growing up, but my mom took me to see it when it premiered in 1998 and it has been one of my favorite films ever since. It’s action, adventure, drama, romance, and comedy, not to mention bringing Whitney Houston and Mariah Carey together for “When You Believe,” one of many hits on one of the greatest and most underrated soundtracks of all time.

And Danny Glover played Jethro! Let’s focus on that instead of the list of 90% white actors (Val Kilmer, Michelle Pfeiffer, Sandra Bullock, Ralph Fiennes, Jeff Goldblum, Patrick Stewart, Steve Martin, Martin Short, Helen Mirren, and others) who played people with color. Fun Fact: It wasn’t Danny Glover singing “Through the Eyes of Heaven” when Moses and Tzipporah fell in love too. It was another black actor, Brian Stokes Mitchell, because Danny Glover can’t sing like that. – Jordan Calhoun

Deadly violence between Israel and Palestinian militants in the Gaza Strip intensified Friday, a day after President Joe Biden called for the worst fighting since 2014 to be de-escalated.

The president told reporters he expected additional discussions with executives in the area.

Israeli forces bombed and sent troops and tanks to the Gaza border after militants fired more rockets into Israeli cities.

At least 119 people, including 31 children, were killed, according to officials in Gaza. Eight people were killed in Israel, including a soldier and some civilians, in air and rocket strikes between the Israeli military and the Hamas militant group that governs the Gaza Strip.

It was the worst outbreak of violence between Israel and the Palestinians since the Gaza war in 2014.

The dramatic escalation followed protests against the possible expulsion of Palestinian families from a neighborhood in East Jerusalem by the Israeli Supreme Court. In Jerusalem last Friday, Israeli security forces clashed with Palestinians’ thrown stones near the Al-Aqsa Mosque, Islam’s third holiest site, before a trial on Monday in the event of an eviction.

As tensions increased, the Supreme Court delayed the hearing on the right-wing Israeli case. Monday was also the anniversary of the retaking of East Jerusalem by Israel in the 1967 war and the Muslim observance of Ramadan.

Israel said it would send troops to the Gaza border before a possible ground invasion of the area after four days of ongoing cross-border conflict. In addition to Hamas’ rocket strikes on Tel Aviv, Jerusalem and other cities and Israeli air strikes on Gaza, Jewish and Arab mobs clashed on the streets of several Israeli cities this week, resulting in dozens of arrests.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu warned in a televised address that the escalating conflict had embroiled Israel in two fighting campaigns – in Gaza and in Israeli cities – and reiterated his promise to use armed forces to combat violence in the cities.

“I again urge the citizens of Israel not to take the law into their own hands. Anyone who does this will be severely punished,” said Netanyahu. “We will act with full force against enemies from outside and lawbreakers from within in order to restore calm in the state of Israel.”

Netanyahu also thanked Biden and other world leaders on Friday and vowed that Israel “will continue to crack down on Hamas”. “It’s not over yet,” he said. “We will do everything we can to restore the security of our city and our citizens.”

A ground invasion of Gaza has not yet been announced. Some world leaders and lawmakers have condemned the violence and called for de-escalation to avoid spiraling into all-out war.

Israeli President Reuven Rivlin pushed for “senseless civil war” amid urban unrest. UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres called for an “immediate de-escalation and cessation of hostilities” in the region.

“Too many innocent civilians have already died,” Guterres wrote in a tweet. “This conflict can only exacerbate radicalization and extremism across the region.”

Senator Chris Murphy, D-Conn., Chairman of the Foreign Relations Subcommittee, has called for a ceasefire as soon as possible to prevent further civilian deaths.

“Ground operations will not stop the missiles falling on Israel or resolve the fundamental security challenges Israel is facing,” Murphy said in a statement Thursday. “Only a short-term ceasefire and a real path to a viable long-term future with two states can do this.”

Secretary of State Antony Blinken confirmed Wednesday that the US is sending a Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Israel and Palestinian Affairs to urge Israelis and Palestinians to de-escalate the violence.

The U.S. State Department on Thursday also raised its travel advice for Israel, citing armed conflict and civil unrest and urging people not to travel to Gaza because of Covid-19 and conflict.

How zombies made me hate rather less than final week

How zombies made me hate rather less than final week

As I embarked on the second week of my month-long goal of truly enjoying running, I didn’t expect miracles to happen. Although they are quite an active person overall, That first run was a disaster. But I learned a few things that I could tweak to get me to the point where I can say that while I don’t like running (yet), I hated it less than I did last week than I hated my spiritual one Health in question for volunteering for such an experiment.

First of all, to those of you who recommended it Zombies, run! App, Thanks. One of the things I like about exercising on my elliptical at home is that I can also watch pointless TV while doing it. So it made sense that the lack of entertainment would make walking seem even more of a chore. As it turns out, the trick for me is to go on “missions” to collect supplies and rescue survivors of the zombie apocalypse (and also to hear some tunes in between panicked news from the grassroots). Unlocking the next part of the story offers a bit of motivation to walk out the door.

I found out something else as to why that first run last week was so brutal too. I don’t know how it is possible that this didn’t occur to me right now or even after thinking about it, but folks – I started this run uphill.

I live in a hilly area where I walk a lot and I think I never thought about it much. But who in their right mind would go running for the first time in at least a decade and turn to go uphill? (That girl, apparently.) No wonder my ankles weren’t working properly, for God’s sake.

This week I’ve used the hill to my advantage, as would anyone who really wanted to be strategic about this. I warmed myself up for five minutes by walking briskly up the hill, which got my heart rate pumping. Then I turned and ran and walked alternately first on flat land and then downhill at the end. The terrain got easier as the physical exertion became more difficult and I was pretty happy with myself.

I think using the hill as a warm up helped my ankles feel better during the run, and I was also pleasantly surprised to find myself in epic pain for three days after that first run didn’t come back.

I planned on running at least three times this week but life got in the way so I only made it twice. But that’s twice as much as last week, and I’ve also decided not to force myself to just run as my exercise this month. I want to keep doing the other physical activities that I enjoy so that I don’t unnecessarily torture myself as that would be the opposite of the point. In the end, it’s not just about exercising by running, but seeing running as a simple, easily accessible option that I enjoy with some frequency.

I tracked my running “moods” and on a scale of 1 to 5, with five “Fuck that shit the hell” and one “Whoo-hoo! Running is the best!” And I ended the week on a nice, neutral three I didn’t like it at the moment, but immediately afterwards I felt stronger and more accomplished for doing it, so I think this is a win.

My goals for the next week are three runs, at least one of which is on a scenic trail. My longest run / walk this week was just over 20 minutes. So if I can get that down to 25 minutes it would feel like progress. And I hope that at least one run will appear on or near a “two” on the mood card.

The auditor reviews poor monitoring of the COVID-19 assist cash

Wood

RALEIGH – The NC Auditor said the vast majority of the $ 3.6 billion in COVID-19 aid the state received from the federal government had been distributed with limited surveillance and control.

Beth Wood’s office, chartered accountant, released a report Thursday saying the NC Pandemic Recovery Office of the Office of State Budget and Management needs to improve its aid distribution procedures. The auditors found that $ 3.1 billion of the money was distributed without the bureau ensuring that all recipients had some method of measuring the results.

“As a result, there was an increased risk that the beneficiaries could have misused the funds without the misuse being identified and corrected in a timely manner,” wrote the examiner. “In addition, NCPRO had only limited ability to know whether the funds were achieving the results required by law and to take corrective measures in good time if necessary.”

The General Assembly of the State passed the 2020 COVID-19 Recovery Act on May 4, 2020, which established the Coronavirus Relief Fund. The law commissioned the OSBM to set up the NCPRO to distribute federal aid money. Government received $ 1.67 billion, education $ 524 million, nonprofits $ 341 million, local government $ 317 million, hospitals $ 102 million; and $ 645 million was used to offset general government fund expenses.

The auditors found that NCPRO did not independently verify the recipients’ expenses by comparing receipts such as bills and receipts with the expenses reported by the recipients until November, after most of the money had already been spent.

In addition, by October, auditors tested all Recovery Act payouts to 490 recipients and found that 9% did not report what they were up to with the funds, 68% stated goals but no goals for how they would achieve those goals. and 39% failed to measure their progress towards their goals.

Wood’s office said NCPRO should conduct an independent review of recipients’ self-reported spending to ensure the money is being spent in accordance with the Restoration Act. NCPRO should also develop procedures to ensure that beneficiaries develop goals for how the money is used and ways to measure progress in achieving those goals.

NCPRO informed the auditors that it had not ensured that all beneficiaries had a method of measuring results as it chose to prioritize the coordination and distribution of funds and instead provide technical assistance to the beneficiaries. The change in Treasury’s guidelines on the permitted uses of the money also delayed the development of guidelines, the office said.

In their response to the audit report, Charles Perusse, Director of the State Budget, and Stephanie McGarrah, Executive Director of the NCPRO wrote: “We take the findings presented in this report very seriously and have already started making changes to address them and ensure the North That Carolina Pandemic Recovery Office will be well equipped to handle the additional federal recovery funds the state will receive to help it recover from the pandemic. “

You may not allow your Edge Chromium browser to try to help you save, but it can be annoying when you see a prompt after asking about Cashback Programs and Coupon Savings. Sometimes the deals are great; sometimes they are more annoying than useful.

I like to think of myself as a pretty smart shopper, and I’ve found that prompts like this – and browser extensions similar to these – appear honey– Don’t often improve my shopping experience. Either the websites rarely have a wild promotion code (Amazon) or I shop there strategically because I know a deal is worth it (thanks, Slick deals).

If you’re like me, you can turn off these prompts in Edge Chromium. And maybe you would like since you get them by default after installing the browser for the first time.

How to disable Edge Chromium’s additional services

First, go to the browser’s settings by clicking the three-dot icon in the top right corner and then clicking the settings. Then you want to click Data protection, search and services, and scroll down until you see this Services Section. Look for that in it “Save time and money by shopping in Microsoft Edge” Possibility. While you’re there, you may want to make sure the Pinterest link is disabled too if you use the browser’s collection feature a lot but don’t need Pinterest that much. The “Address Bar and Search” option also lets you change the default search engine your browser uses when you type something in the address bar. You can also completely disable your browser’s suggestions if you are not a fan.

However, if you intend to stick with the shopping tips, there is no need to wait for your browser to prompt you for a quote on a website. If you’re impatient or the process is flawed for whatever reason, just look for the little price tag icon on the far right of your browser’s address bar. LONDON – UK is preparing to have vaccinations and tests carried out in areas where the new variant of Covid-19, first discovered in India, is spreading.

Vaccine Minister Nadhim Zahawi told BBC TV on Friday that the government would “bend” its vaccination program to target more doses to the hardest hit areas, while second doses could be brought forward.

In a statement late Thursday, the UK Department of Health and Welfare announced that a new surge rapid response team of 100 nurses, health advisors and environmental health officers would be deployed to Bolton, a town on the outskirts of Manchester. where variant B1.617.2 spreads quickly.

“While there is still no clear evidence that this variant has a greater impact on disease severity or evades the vaccine, the rate of growth matters and the government is considering additional measures if deemed necessary, including the best possible Using the vaccine role-out to best protect the most vulnerable in the context of the current epidemiology, “the department said in the statement.

Surge testing, along with improved genome sequencing and contact tracing, is also being rolled out to other areas across the country.

Data on the new variant, released Thursday by Public Health England, showed the number of cases across the UK rose from 520 last week to 1,313 this week, with most cases in the north-west of England and some clusters concentrated in London.

New restrictions cannot be ruled out

The introduction of vaccines in the UK was one of the fastest in the world. Almost 70% of the adult population have received at least one shot to date. Vaccines are currently available to people over the age of 38. However, the government has stated that they could be made available to younger people in multi-generational households.

The next phase of England’s exit from the lockdown is slated for Monday, when the conviviality, hospitality and indoor entertainment will resume.

However, Health and Welfare Secretary Matt Hancock said in a statement Thursday that the government is “monitoring the situation very carefully and does not hesitate to take further action if necessary”.

With the special unit in Bolton, surge tests have already been carried out in 15 areas across England, with more than 800,000 tests distributed.

“As outlined in the roadmap, we cannot rule out the possibility that economic and social restrictions will be reimposed at local or regional level if there is evidence that they are necessary to contain or suppress a variant that escapes the vaccine”, said the DHSC.

Gemma went on to believe that even though Christy went to law school in Georgetown, Christy and Bonnie are still close together. “I like to think that she has had a happy and healthy relationship too and that she is still a part of the life of her mother and friends,” said the writer. “We didn’t see her in the final, but she’s still part of that group.”

In addition, TV Line quoted Gemma as saying, “We felt it was important to honor [Faris’] Decision to leave the show. Audiences know Christy has come a long way and overcome so many obstacles over seven seasons in order to pursue her dream of becoming a lawyer in The Final. “

Instead, the finale revolved around Bonnie attending Jill’s wedding (Jaime Pressly) and Andy (Will Sasso), not to mention her dealings with husband Adam (William Fichtner) be diagnosed with cancer.

There was a brief reference to Christy when Bonnie mentioned her daughter while talking to a new member of her Alcoholics Anonymous group. “We’re both sober and in love,” said Bonnie. “She moved, but my point is my point.”

The trading card market is hot right now, if not a little overheated – last week one collector pulled a gun against other collectors in a dispute over trading cards at a destinationand called on the company to pull cards off the shelves. While this is an extreme example of the intense demand for trading cards during the pandemic, the soaring prices suggest that you should take a second look at your own collection and look for hidden gems worth getting or selling.

The collector’s market has been good for some time

The trading card market was good even before the pandemic and even outperformed the stock market indices. The PWCC 500 index, which is similar to the S&P 500 for trading cards, reported a 12 year ROI of 175% compared to just 102% for the S&P, according to Axios.

Pokémon collectors have also fed frenzy. As reported by the BBC, a sealed box of early 2000s Pokémon cards that retail for around $ 100; The same box would cost up to $ 50,000 today. Vice also reports that the Pokémon market is so congested that there is one months long waiting list Just to have cards rated by professional card sorters.

Sports tickets are also popular with many high profile sales recently, including a Michael Jordan Rookie card We’re currently bidding at $ 1.4 millionand an “extremely rare” LeBron James rookie card that was sold for $ 5.2 millionand surpasses a Mickey Mantle card sold for the same price in early January.

This is how you determine the value of your collection

There are many cards out there and only a small fraction of them are very valuable. You should do your own research first before paying for an appraiser’s services. The card collection point Cardboard connection suggests eBay as a first step, especially under “sold articles, ”As it tells you, how much your cards are worth without having to spend money (there is also price conduct Services these are useful).

If you’re like me, your dream is to use leftovers to fund a mortgage down payment Trash can kids cards will resolve quickly and you will be forced to move on (but I’ll try again in another 30 years).

If your trading cards have any value, you should have them authenticated and graded by card grading services like the Professional Sports Authenticator or PSA (although again they do). Expect delays). Whether or not you actually sell it is up to you.

What are the disadvantages of investing in trading cards?

The most important thing to remember about trading cards is that they are only worth what someone else is willing to pay. When the market suddenly dries up, the book value from a price leader means nothing. Traders will also tell you that lining up a buyer is not always easy, and some cards vary in how easy they are to sell.

You also need to know what to look for. The chances of finding one Honus Wagner card In your attic, the value is extremely low, so you need to identify undervalued cards by keeping up with new collections and trends (this is why most professional traders start out as hobbyists).
