Customise the Home windows 10 system tray feed for information and pursuits

The Windows 10 news and feature feed for your system tray is now provided as part of the KB5001391 operating system system update. To like Microsoft News Bar App or Edge’s personalized highlights, the News and Interests feed, shows the latest headlines from over 4,500 news sources and a wide range of topics. Unlike these other apps, the Messages and Interests widget is built into the system tray so you can check messages right from your desktop without loading another app.

To access your news and interests, click the weather info on the system tray to expand the feed and see the latest headlines. The feed will be updated automatically. However, you can also click the Refresh arrow icon to manually check for new headings. Clicking on a story opens the link in a new Edge tab.

The News and Interests feed, however, shows more than just news. You can customize the widget feeds with sports highlights, local weather forecasts, live traffic reports, stock market updates, and much more. click “Manage Interest” To select the topics and sources to be viewed, or click “…” top left to view the widget’s full settings menu.

There is also one “…” Button next to each info card. Click here to share, save, or select stories “More stories like this” or “Less such stories” to optimize the recommendations of the widget. You can also add public “likes” and reactions to stories, similar to Facebook.

If you don’t want to use the new feed at all, Right click Click the Messages & Interests icon in the system tray and hover over the new Messages & Interests box to find an option to turn it off.

The Windows 10 news and interests feed will appear automatically after installing the KB5001391 update. However, the feed may not appear right away. The function also requires a server-side update, for which a staggered rollout will be carried out. According to Microsoft, most users will see the News and Interest feed starting May 11th. All Windows 10 users installing the KB5001391 update should have this feature by the end of June. Unfortunately, there’s no way to force the feed, but you won’t miss a ton if you have to wait.

Microsoft is leveraging delayed rollout to prevent widespread bugs – a wise move considering that Windows updates are known to introduce unintended bugs and bugs. In fact, some users claim that there is an issue with the News and Interest feed where the widget stops working and shows a blank window. Windows Latest Reports You can restart Windows Explorer to fix this:

  1. Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open the Task Manager.
  2. Right click “Windows Explorer.”
  3. Choose “Reset to default.”

Hopefully this issue is limited and Microsoft can fix it before the News and Interests feed is generally available.

China’s drive to scale back CO2 emissions will increase the dangers for the north

BEIJING – China’s bond defaults are increasingly concentrated in part of the country whose growth may be under greater pressure from tough new carbon emissions restrictions, according to an analysis by Nomura.

Fifteen regions in the northern half of China, including Beijing and Inner Mongolia, accounted for 63.4% of government bond defaults last year, up from 51.5% in 2019, Nomura said in an April 27 report .

This is the latest sign of growing economic inequality within the country, where GDP and population growth in the north are already lagging behind those in the south. China’s promise to cut CO2 emissions by 2030 now means that the northern region’s economy has production restrictions.

“The new environmental campaign has the potential to hit northern China – where a large part of steel, aluminum and other raw materials are manufactured and processed – particularly hard,” wrote the Nomura analysts.

“Since most of these steel and aluminum mills are located in lower tier (less developed) cities, these cities’ public finances are likely to be disproportionately affected, increasing the risk of credit default,” they said.

Historical factors

There are many state-owned companies and heavy industries in northern China. This meant that the region was disproportionately affected from the late 1980s when China began to reduce the role of state-owned companies in the economy, which resulted in many workers losing their jobs.

Meanwhile, southern China has more export centers such as Guangdong and Jiangsu provinces. The region has Shanghai and Shenzhen among its capitals and was an early beneficiary of China’s move to allow more foreign and privately owned companies to enter the relatively closed domestic market.

According to the Nomura analysts, historical factors and overcapacities built up after the financial crisis of 2008 contributed to a further weakness in the north. They estimate that northern China contributed only 35.2% of the national nominal GDP last year, while GDP per capita was only about three-quarters of southern China’s GDP.

The north is also more dependent on debt. The share of outstanding corporate bonds in GDP in northern China rose to 52% in 2020 compared to 30% in southern China, Nomura said.

“The north-south divide could become an important factor in credit differentiation in the coming years,” the report said. “Indeed, we have already seen some deterioration in the ability of northern China’s provinces to obtain funding from the bond markets.”

The north accounted for 10% of national corporate bond issuance in the first quarter, compared to 42% for all of last year, analysts said.

Investors are wary of larger risks

Pressure on the north is mounting as defaults in China rise overall, particularly among state-owned companies that investors previously believed had implicit government support.

While the level of defaults is still quite low compared to the overall market, the trend will push investors to differentiate between different issuers of bonds, said Ivan Chung, head of Moody’s credit research and analysis team in China.

According to Chung, issuers canceled bonds last month for two different reasons. One is that the issuer is too weak to arouse enough appetite for investors, he said. The other is that despite the good quality, market sentiment has driven the cost of the bonds up and made them too expensive.

Amid some signs of growing concern, investors feared in April that state bad debt manager Huarong would be unable to make payments.

Separately, 24 companies backed by the Henan provincial government plan to set up a 30 billion yuan ($ 4.6 billion) fund to help local businesses deal with debt risks, Chinese financial media website Caixin reported below Appeal to a government official. Henan is part of Nomura’s name “Northern China”.

Financing a renewable energy relocation

As China tries to balance growth with reducing carbon emissions, easing pressure on carbon-intensive projects may not be enough. Privately owned renewable energy companies may have difficulty obtaining funding from a system in which the largest banks are state-owned and prefer loans to similarly state-backed companies.

One option to fund renewable energy projects may be to issue “green” bonds, which Reuters said sold $ 15.7 billion in China in the first quarter, citing data from Refinitiv. That volume was almost four times what it was a year ago, the report said.

Foreign investment organizations such as the International Finance Center affiliated to the World Bank have also become increasingly involved. Some of the project plans IFC lists on its website for China include wastewater treatment and solar energy.

The size of IFC funding in China has increased from $ 500 million a year 15 years ago to $ 1 billion a year more recently, with about 60 percent being climate-related, said Randall Riopelle, acting regional director for East Asia and the Pacific and Country Manager for China for IFC.

Even though you’ve just installed iOS 14.5, you’re using the new operating system, right? -, it’s time to get back to the Settings app and receive a just released update from Apple that addresses a number of important iOS vulnerabilities. And while all security updates are critical, this update fixes two vulnerabilities that are actively exploited in the wild.

In other words, don’t wait. You will be tempted as it looks like a minor update and you need to use your iPhone or iPad for something else now, so maybe later. If you are, make sure you have Automatic Updates turned on Settings> General> Software update At least, you should really only take a few minutes to download and install the update now.

Image for the article titled Install iOS 14.5.1 to Address these two major vulnerabilitiesScreenshot: David Murphy

As Apple describes in its safety instructionsiOS 14.5.1 addresses two issues with WebKit that could allow an attacker to remotely execute code on your device if you visit a website that is set up to exploit the vulnerabilities. As for the full geek speak for what Apple fixed:

  • A memory corruption issue was addressed with improved state management.
  • An integer overflow was fixed with improved input validation.

While chances are you probably wouldn’t encounter such attacks, there is no reason to wait until you’ve patched your iOS version. The update is around 100MB, which shouldn’t take long to download over WiFi. (I wouldn’t waste my data on a cellular connection.) By the time I wrote this paragraph, my iPhone has already downloaded and started preparing for the update. The latter process takes about five minutes to chug its way on my iPhone 12 Pro Max. Of course, your personal results can vary.

Once it’s downloaded and processed, you need to tap on “Install now” to install the update. Your iPhone or iPad will restart itself and you can get started after another 5-7 minutes.

Overall, I would say that the entire update process took about 15 minutes. This includes downloading, preparing and installing the update. While this is a little more time than I expected, give it a try sometime during your day. Keep the update chugging while you’re in a work meeting, taking a toilet break, or warming up dinner.

Also bitte, Jed, mach dich daran.

What ought to I say when somebody tells you, “It is to your personal good?”

“I’ll do this for your own good” is a saying that unruly children know quite well. Parents love to pull it out to warrant punishment for wrongdoing, as if a child would appreciate that at some point they would appreciate the fact that you loved them enough to take their Xbox away for a week.

But when it comes to adult relationships, the term is often used to rid a party of guilt in an argument and, in practice, to justify unfair forms of marginalization or abuse. The rationale is presented that whatever a person does or says is excusable because it is meant to benefit their partner, family member, or friend – in reality, the outcome may be the opposite.

Here’s why there’s no point telling someone it’s for your own good and how to react when someone tells you.

It is “more concealed than open”

Covert forms of abuse are inherently psychological and often take on insidious forms that outwardly do not appear abusive: for example: someone who lights you with gas or give that to you silent treatment. Another of these tactics insists that some form of punishment is for a person’s “own good” and is therefore inherently benevolent. In reality, it is a manipulative trick that can be used to justify exclusion or ridicule, and is usually used with the intention of controlling another person.

How Dr. Heather Stevenson, a New York psychologist tells Lifehacker, it’s something to be taken seriously – especially when it comes to recurring events in your relationship:

Things like trying to control or dictate someone’s behavior and actions, sometimes on the understanding that “it’s for your own good” or “I’m just taking care of you,” are red flags that shouldn’t be ignored.

These forms of behavior control may be unconscious, and it may not be obvious to the person claiming to be representing your interests that they are actually condescending or possibly even abusive. In general, offenders tend to suffer from a Series of mental illnesses, including insecurity and depression, they can inadvertently harm you.

When a significant other or friend puts responsibility for their own emotional wellbeing on you, it is also a sign of abusive behavior, says Stevenson:

Similarly, this is a subtle form of manipulation that can indicate an abusive dynamic when a significant other or family member is trying to get you to do something that claims, “If you don’t do X, it hurts me .

G / O Media can receive a commission

What should I say if this happens to you?

When you are able to question the logic of how anything that is done to you can potentially be for “your own good,” just ask your partner or friend how it is. For example, if someone ignores you and insists that you get some use out of the stone wall, asking them how you actually do this can be productive. Being able to poke holes in their logic when up to such a challenge can be helpful in encouraging them to find other ways to communicate with you – even if they are upset about you .

Additionally, it is important to note that you are your best lawyer and have a better understanding of what is in your best interests than your partner. While you are entitled to make suggestions, you definitely do not have sole discretion about how you live your life. You can definitely explain your logic, especially if you think something is “for your own good” but you are more than entitled to express disagreements.

Most of all, Stevenson says to trust your instincts and seek outside help and perspective in solving the problem. She writes:

If you are experiencing this in a relationship, adjust to your gut reaction that the request or inquiry may put off, and don’t ignore it. Get outside advice, especially from a trained therapist or specialist, on how to identify these behavioral patterns and how to maintain your limits and your self-confidence.

Most importantly, if your relationship dynamics continue down this path, it may be time you reached out to couples together or thought about ending them.

New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy announced a new offer on Monday to promote coronavirus vaccinations: get your first dose in May and get a free beer.

“We’re not going to be afraid to try new things,” said Murphy as he presented the new program, called “Shot and a Beer”, at a press conference.

CNBC policy

Read more about CNBC’s political coverage:

Thirteen New Jersey-based breweries are participating in the program, which Murphy says is only available to citizens 21 and older.

These New Jerseyers must show their vaccination cards as evidence before receiving their reward, the Democratic governor said.

The breweries themselves pay for the cost of the free drinks, said Murphy, who suggested that more beer makers could be added to the list soon.

The breweries currently participating are: Battle River Brewing, Bradley Beer Project, Bolero Snort Brewing Company, Brix City Brewing Company, Carton Brewing Company, Flounder Brewing Company, Flying Fish Brewing Company, Gaslight Brewery and Restaurant, Hackensack Brewing Company, Kane Brewing Company, Little Dog Brewing Company, Magnify Brewing Company, and River Horse Brewing Company.

The program came from the New Jersey Department of Health in association with the Brewer’s Guild of New Jersey.

The Garden State is hardly the first to suggest an incentive for people to get vaccinated.

West Virginia Republican Governor Jim Justice announced an initiative last week to give $ 100 savings bonds to younger citizens who get vaccinated.

Connecticut has its own alcoholic incentive with its “Drinks On Us” campaign: residents who get fully vaccinated and show their vaccination cards at certain restaurants will receive a free drink between May 19 and 31.

Incentive or no, vaccination rates are increasing. More than 29% of the US population is fully vaccinated, and cases and deaths from Covid are declining, according to Johns Hopkins University.

But a significant number of Americans say they are not ready to get vaccinated. A survey by Monmouth University published in mid-April found that roughly one in five Americans said they didn’t get the shot.

This is causing health officials and leaders at all levels of government to urge more people to seek and get their vaccinations.

The “Shot and a Beer” campaign is just part of New Jersey’s broader programs aimed at bringing the state back to a more normal summer as the fight against the pandemic continues.

Murphy announced the free beer plan after detailing the “Grateful for the Shot” initiative, which allows parishioners to walk straight to vaccination sites from church services.

It’s “maybe on the other end of the spectrum” of incentives, Murphy said.

The “sell and go away in May” strategy isn’t particularly popular on Wall Street this year.

Market professionals acknowledge that history clearly shows that the strongest six month period in the market is November through April, but they also say that it is not necessarily a factor that should shape investor plans each year.

“Any investment strategy you can put in some rhyme is likely to be a bad strategy,” said Jonathan Golub, chief strategist, US equities at Credit Suisse. Golub raised its S&P 500 target on Friday from 4,300 to 4,600 by the end of the year based on strong returns.

He said that market performance, on average, follows the pattern of weakness between May and October, but it is not a reason to get out of stocks.

“That would be perfectly reasonable if every single May looked exactly like May of the previous year,” said Golub. The comparison of this year with last year alone shows a great contrast.

“Last May last year, the market jumped off the ground.” He said the backdrop has now changed from a country and economy ravaged by the pandemic last year to a period when a booming economy and profits should continue to generate profits.

“Look at what we have this earnings season. US companies beat estimates by 22% – 22% are unknown. The economic data is phenomenal,” said Golub.

The second quarter is expected to be even stronger and these earnings reports will be released in July.

“I’m not selling in May and wouldn’t advise anyone else,” said Golub. “I think the biggest mistake you can make in a market like this is getting too cute and getting out early. You’d better try to stay a little longer than get out early.”

Carter Worth, chief market technician at Cornerstone Macro, agrees that investors generally would not be well served to get out of the market in May and stay out until October.

However, this year he expects the market to enter a weak phase. Seasonal factors aside, Worth expects the market to be at the top.

“It’s a time to reduce exposure. Midsoles can last three to five months,” he said.

Studying the seasonal trend, Worth found that November 1 through April 30, the Dow’s performance was 27.8%, making it the fourth strongest for that six month period through 1896.

“After a particularly good six-month run from November to April, the next six months are poor,” said Worth. He added that after stocks rallied sharply, it could do so for any six month period.

The average return for the Dow for the top 10 years from November to April was 27.5%, compared with an average of 2.9% in the following periods from May to October, Worth noted. The average total profit for the full year for the top 10 years from November to April was 23.7%.

For all years through 1896, the average return on the Dow was 5.2% from November to April and 2.1% from May to October, according to Worth’s analysis. The average performance over all years was 7.3%.

Although Worth expects the market to have spiked in the short term, he said the seasonal investment strategy is the wrong approach.

“The six month period from November to April produced higher returns than the six month period from May to October 1896 to 2020,” he said. “But by far the best strategy, as everyone knows, is to expose the capital to the market year after year.”

Worth calculated that $ 1 million invested in the market from 1896 to 1896 by investors who then went for cash from May to October would have returned $ 164.4 million.

Investors who stayed all year would see a return of $ 672.6 million on that original $ 1 million.

A tendency towards a summer rally

The pattern of seasonal weakness from May to October is also evident in the S&P 500, but the average return has been positive 66% of the time since 1928, according to Stephen Suttmeier, technical research strategist at Bank of America.

He said that because the index had an average positive return of 2.2% over that six month period, the sell in May strategy leaves something to be desired.

Suttmeier said his study confirmed the bias towards a summer rally and the May-October decline was “back-end loaded”.

“Instead of selling in May and going away, buy it in May and sell it in July / August,” he wrote in a note. “The monthly seasonality suggests that sales are in the strong month of April, buying in the weak month of May, and sales in July through August before September, the weakest month of the year.”

The summer rally can be even stronger in the first year of a new president’s term. The market is strong in April and July, but there was also a solid return in May, says Suttmeier.

“This spring-to-summer rally and fall correction will be amplified in the first year of the presidential cycle, with April-June rising an average of 5.5% and August-October falling an average of 2.4%,” he wrote.

Any investment strategy that you can sum up in some rhyme is likely to be a bad strategy.

Sam Stovall, chief investment strategist at CRFA, also examined the “sell in May” phenomenon based on the performance of the S&P Equal Weight 500. This index gives each stock the same weight, not the market capitalization of the S&P 500 index.

By April 30, the S&P Equal Weight 500 was up 16.2% over the course of the year. This is the third strongest four-month start since the index began in 1990.

“Investors are now asking if this benchmark for unweighted US large cap stocks has gone too fast and too far,” Stovall wrote in a note.

He said history shows that such early strength is typically followed by a period when the market digests gains in May. The market can be volatile through September before outperforming the last three months of the year.

With all of the focus on “sell in May and go away,” investors should know that the story of the adage may have more to do with vacation than bailing out the stock market.

“Sell in May and go away” comes from an English saying, “Sell in May and go away and come back on St. Leger’s Day,” Cornerstone told Macro’s Worth.

St. Leger’s Day refers to the St. Leger’s Stakes, a thoroughbred horse race that takes place in mid-September.

“It refers to the custom of leaving the city of London to escape the hot summer months,” said Worth.

At any given time, I have at least one open box of baking soda and one open canister of baking soda in my pantry, and I never know how old they are. Unlike cheese or apples, none of these leavening agents provide visual clues as to when they have “gone bad”. They look the same regardless of their age, but they just stop working, leaving behind flat, unleavened cakes, cookies, and quick bread. Fortunately, there are two simple tests that you can use to determine the effectiveness of each test.

How we discussed beforehandBoth baking soda and baking soda are chemical leavening agents, but they work in different ways. Baking powder is “pure sodium bicarbonate, an ionic salt with the chemical formula NaHCO3. It is naturally alkaline (basic) with a pH of eight and provides the “base” part of the acid-base reaction. “Baking powder, on the other hand, contains both acidic and basic ingredients that are activated by adding water. To see if baking soda works, you need to introduce it with some acid. To test the baking soda add some water.

To test your baking sodaPour three tablespoons of white vinegar into a bowl or cup, then stir in half a teaspoon of baking soda. For baking powderAdd half a teaspoon of baking soda to three tablespoons of water. Either way, the leavening agent is still good with the solutions bubbling and you can feel safe as you continue baking. If they’re not bubbling, it’s time to refill them (and write the date on the new package this time) – even though you do can replace one with the other when your sourdough needs are urgent and immediate. (You can also use either to clean and scrub withprovided cleaning does not depend on a robust acid-base reaction.)
