Not all advice has to be professional. Sometimes your problems deserve a little blatant honesty from a guy with only a computer and a conscience. Fortunately, I am that guy. Welcome back to Tough Love. (If you’d like to be introduced, email me at sblum@lifehacker.com.)

Today we’re discussing what to do when you feel like you’re not taking a break on the dating front. How do you move on when it feels like all hope is lost, especially when people around you seem to find it with ease?

Note: I am a columnist, not a therapist or a certified doctor. My advice should be interpreted in that sense. If you have a problem with something I say file a complaint here. Let’s start now.

Dear sam

I’m 32 years old and I’m out of luck and not having fun dating. It’s been 4 years that I’ve tried on again and again, absolutely nothing and nowhere.

I tried to date online every three months then I deleted it, no one speaks. I was like a match and they never answered. I spent days changing and tweaking my profile for nothing it seems.

I have friends who are socially incompetent but can attract women and date – they would have new girls every week. Part of my problem is that I have very little contact with women and can’t get a date to try to do better. I’ve been to a lot of hobby groups and they’re either old people or people in exactly the same position that I’m in. I do not know what to do.

Any help is appreciated

Beyond the frustrated black nerd

Dear Beyond Frustrated Black Nerd,

You are in a difficult situation so you have my sympathy. When we play on the field, we often crave an instant payout. This is rarely the case with most people, regardless of how charming, funny, or handsome they are. Dating is a process, and an annoying and potentially heartbreaking one at it. There’s a reason “Dating Sucks” is a pretty common refrain that is reflected in myriad instances Books and Podcasts.

With that in mind, you should know that this is not necessarily a “you” problem. However, the problem could be how you present yourself, especially on your online dating profiles. Connecting human beings to other singles is more art than science, but I believe maintaining the right dating app profile really boils down to a straightforward scientific formula. Are you using low-resolution, grainy photos or selfies from four years ago? Does your profile offer an insight into yourself? Are you versed in the subtle art of the thirst trap?

The annoying part about wiping hinge or tinder through is that it takes quite a bit of effort to create a profile that could attract potential matches. I’ve never come across your profiles (obviously) so I don’t know if you took the time to curate a site that will sell you the way you deserve it. You said you “spent days tweaking and tweaking your page”. Maybe you already know that.

If so, give it more time! Three months are not part of the grand plan to find a partner. I know it can feel like a tedious slog especially because your dating apps are always there begging for a fearful swipe sesh. Try to moderate your usage. Give yourself a day or two a week to paint and let the addictive nature of the apps disconnect you for the rest of the week. This stuff can be easy to get obsessed with – especially after a year of quarantine and isolation – so try not to let it dominate your headspace.

As for your friends who you say get dates – fuck it. Relationships are very subjective, and just because you make it seem like they are successful doesn’t mean they have something that you don’t. And while I think that’s true, it’s far more important that you believe it. There is no secret recipe that they use. It could very well be luck of the draw. At the same time, you could ask some of them how they complied with this data. There’s no shame in that, and if your friends succeed with a certain strategy, it might work for you.

And one more piece of advice: try not to cause stress! Thirty-two is pretty young, and at that age you have the gift of not being quite the ankle you were probably when you were 25. You are more emotionally mature and you know what you want. Be true to yourself and keep trying because it is obviously important to you. Ultimately, it will pay off – not because fate dictates that “there is someone out there for everyone,” but because you cared about it and did the job.

That’s it for this week, but there’s a lot more Tough Love. If you’d like to be featured, please contact us by describing your dilemmas in an article E-mail me (Please put “ADVICE” or “TOUGH LOVE” in the subject line). Or, Tweet me with the hashtag #ToughLove. Serious inquiries only: Don’t send me emails or messages if you don’t want to appear in the column. Disclaimer of liability: I cannot answer all of them. So make sure you describe a specific problem in your note. I will not respond to generalizations like someone who is “mean” or vague descriptions of “relationship problems” without specific examples of what is making you sick. Take care of yourself until next time!

The Johnson & Johnson Covid vaccination break It may not slow the overall pace of US vaccine adoption much, but it will make it harder for hard-to-reach populations to get a chance.

In response to the Food and Drug Administration’s request on Tuesday that states temporarily suspend use of the J&J vaccine “out of caution” after six women developed a bleeding disorder, White House Tsar Covid Jeff Zients said the Announcement would have no impact on the US vaccination program.

“We have more than enough supplies of Pfizer and Moderna vaccines to continue the current pace of around 3 million shots a day,” Zients told reporters at a news conference.

So far, this has been the case. The country reports an average of 3.3 million daily vaccine doses given in the past week, and 3 million if only Pfizer and Moderna are counted. Only about 7.8 million of the total of 202 million recordings in the US are from J&J, according to data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

However, Johnson & Johnson’s single-shot vaccine makes up about 10% of all fully vaccinated people in the United States, a percentage that has been on the rise for weeks, and it has proven valuable in certain situations and communities.

“Because of the nature of the J&J vaccine, it is often used for specific circumstances and populations who have been more difficult to obtain vaccines for,” said Josh Michaud, associate director of global health at Kaiser Family Foundation.

Bulky vaccination centers and mobile vans that deliver doses to be administered on the go are likely to have an easier time with Johnson & Johnson’s storage requirements, Michaud said. This vaccine only needs to be kept in a standard refrigerator, while the requirements for Pfizer and Moderna are stricter.

And for certain population groups, such as B. Administering a two-dose regimen can be challenging for prisoners moving to another facility or homeless people who are not permanent residents. Many states have used the J&J vaccine on these groups because Michaud says it is difficult to find people to give a second dose.

The one-shot option may also be more appealing to those who are more reluctant to get a vaccine. A survey by the Kaiser Family Foundation in March found that among those who say they’d like to wait and see how the vaccines work before being self-vaccinated, a greater proportion took the J&J single-dose vaccine compared to either dose option would receive.

One in six people in the “wait and see” group said they would “definitely get” the J&J vaccine, while roughly one in ten said the same thing about the Pfizer or Moderna vaccines.

“We know there is a significant section of the people on the fence who are concerned with vaccines in general,” said Michaud. “And I think the J&J vaccine is actually a plus for this group. It’s a big selling point for people on the fence.”

Add all of these factors together and the J&J hiatus could “have a major negative impact on US vaccination rates,” he said.

It is not yet clear how long it will take to end the Johnson & Johnson vaccine. The Chief Medical Officer of the White House, Dr. Anthony Fauci said the break could last anywhere from a few days to a few weeks.

Vaccinate homeless people

Shelly Nortz, assistant executive director of politics at New York City-based advocacy group Coalition for the Homeless, said Johnson & Johnson’s vaccination break will make it harder to get pictures of the populations she works with.

The coronavirus has hit the homeless in New York hard, especially in community housing. An analysis by the Coalition for the Homeless and New York University found that the age-adjusted mortality rate for homeless homeless New Yorkers was 49% higher than the citywide rate as of February.

And while the New York homeless vaccination campaign is off to a solid start – Nortz said the city’s latest announcement showed about 4,500 fully vaccinated single homeless adults out of a total of 21,000, a pace not far below the nationwide rate – the J & J-stop will be a hurdle.

“Everyone was very excited about the unique situation with J & J,” she said, “especially for people who are unprotected and therefore not predictably in the same place.”

The Coalition for the Homeless recently partnered with the Center for Urban Community Services, which provides mobile medical care across New York, to deliver the Johnson & Johnson vaccine to one of its emergency food locations. This program is now on hold, as are discussions about offering the J&J vaccine at the group’s headquarters, where many customers come to collect their mail.

Dr. Van Yu, chief medical officer at CUCS, agrees that a Pfizer or Moderna two-dose schedule makes things a lot more complicated.

“If you live outside, how will I find you in four weeks?” he said.

Yu said the protection system can make it easier to keep track of people, but there’s still a lot of churn as people come and go or are assigned to one of the hundreds of protected areas in New York City.

Nortz said the ease of keeping the J&J recordings is another benefit of vaccinating the homeless.

“The fact that the other two approved vaccines require freezer storage in one case makes it very difficult to do anything mobile or pop-up or with an unknown number of people,” she said.

Zients announced Tuesday that all vaccine delivery channels, including mobile delivery units, are equipped to deliver all three vaccines. Yu said the Moderna vaccine was easy to use in his group’s mobile locations, but due to the extremely cold refrigeration requirements of the Pfizer vaccine, it wasn’t an option.

He currently sits on 185 unused J&J doses and has no access to Moderna vaccines.

Some homeless people in the South Bronx, where Noel Concepcion works as the adult homeless service director for the nonprofit group BronxWorks, have preferred the J&J vaccine because only one dose is required. However, the hiatus and associated misinformation makes it harder to tell a group already skeptical of the government the importance of vaccination, Concepcion said, and this could lead to some reluctance to all three vaccine options.

According to Concepcion, BronxWorks had to cancel a vaccination event in order to take advantage of the existing range of J&J recordings due to the break.

J&J is more convenient for many working professionals

Other barriers to getting a Covid vaccine, such as an inflexible work schedule or responsibility for childcare, have made Johnson & Johnson’s single vaccine an essential option for some.

Liz Schwandt, who leads a volunteer group called Get Out the Shot designed to help people book vaccination appointments in Los Angeles, said many of the callers on her team’s hotline don’t have traditional work benefits or protections like work interruptions. Many of them are domestic servants such as house cleaners, private nannies or gardeners who are paid in cash from the books. Some are employees who don’t have a 9-to-5 job, like the group of night shift administrators that Get Out the Shot recently booked appointments for.

Elizabeth Raygoza receives her Pfizer vaccine from nurse-certified Alyssa Hernandez on March 17, 2021 when the City of Vernon Health Department staff used the city’s new mobile health unit clinic to help nearly 250 food processing workers at COVID-19 To give vaccinations Rose & Shore, a major local convenience food manufacturer serving supermarkets, schools, restaurants, airlines and others.

“We hear stories all the time like hey, my employer lets me get the vaccine but doesn’t give me any free time,” she said, adding, “for a working family that misses a four-hour shift [for a vaccination appointment] can be a huge loss of wages. ”

According to Schwandt, the responsibility for childcare and the dependence on public transport make it difficult to attend multiple appointments.

While Get Out the Shot is booking appointments for all three vaccines, Schwandt said the FDA’s first approval of the J&J vaccine in February was welcome news.

“We were so excited,” she said. “We loved having the one and done option for people.”

A CDC panel on Wednesday postponed a decision on Johnson & Johnson’s Covid vaccine while investigations into the bleeding disorder continue. The panel is expected to meet again next week and decide what to recommend to the CDC.

As Iran increases uranium enrichment to 60%, a short jump to 90%, world powers are trying to persuade the Islamic Republic to take a break.

Meetings aimed at returning both Iran and the United States to some form of the 2015 nuclear deal known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action resumed this week in Austria.

While Israel is not part of the talks, it is a major player in the drama that could quickly escalate.

Israel and its Arab allies, including the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain and Saudi Arabia, want the US to increase pressure on Iran by strengthening the JCPOA to address terrorism, missile development and so-called “Iranian expansionism” throughout the Middle East Include east.

Iran and Israel were embroiled in a shadow war that intensified over the past month. An explosion disrupted one of the Iranian nuclear power centers in Natanz. One of the Iranian spy vessels was hit by an explosive device in the Red Sea. and at least two Israeli-owned cargo ships were targeted.

Iran’s decision to increase uranium enrichment came after the explosion in Natanz, which the Islamic Republic of Israel has blamed.

Israel has vowed to destroy Iran’s nuclear program if all else fails, and they have experience in this area.

Forty years ago, in June 1981, eight Israeli F-16s took off, flew over the Red Sea, spanned the Jordan-Saudi border and dropped their bombs on the Iraqi nuclear power plant in Osirak days before it should get hot. It was called Operation Opera and one of the pilots was General Amos Yadlin.

“Saddam and Assad were surprised. Iran has been waiting for this attack for 20 years.”

General Amos Yadlin

Former head of the Israeli military intelligence service

In 2007, Yadlin, as chief of the Israeli army’s military intelligence, helped plan a second operation. This was aimed at Syria’s secret nuclear power plant. Operation Orchard was also a success – the target was completely destroyed.

Yadlin said if it comes down to it, this time around will be very different: “Saddam and Assad were surprised. Iran has been waiting for this attack for 20 years.”

Yadlin said the Iranian program is “much stronger and more dispersed” while the nuclear programs of Iraq and Syria are concentrated in one place. The Iranian nuclear program is in dozens of places, many of which are buried deep under mountains. In addition, it is not clear whether intelligence agencies know all the details about the locations of the Iranian program.

“Iran learned from what we did, but we also learned from what we did and now we have more skills,” said Yadlin.

Military planners in Israel say that regardless of the Vienna talks, they have five strategies to stop Iran:

  • Option 1: Push for a stronger deal between Iran, the US, Russia, China, France, Germany and the UK.
  • Option 2: Show Iran that the sanctions and diplomacy costs are too high to continue on the current path.
  • Option 3: What is known in Israel as “Strategy C” – with covert attacks, secret actions and cyber attacks. Essentially try anything but war.
  • Option 4: bombing the Iranian nuclear program.
  • Option 5: Push for regime change in Iran. This is the hardest strategy.

Given the strength of the Ayatollahs – their control over the military, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard, and a powerful force known for their brutality – the Basij internal rebellion is a long shot.

However, according to Ali Nader, an Iranian analyst with the Foundation for the Defense of Democracies, the regime has become increasingly unpopular domestically, and protests have broken out in the country in recent years. The main reason for these protests is a stalled economy hit hard by US sanctions, which serve as the main US lever against Iran in the Vienna nuclear talks.

“The US has the Iranian economy completely under control,” said Nader. In 2018, Iran had cash reserves worth more than $ 120 billion. Due to sanctions, this inventory fell to around $ 4 billion in 2020, according to estimates by the International Monetary Fund.

The first thing Iran wants during these talks is for the US to relax sanctions and freely sell oil to Asia and Europe. Iran is circumventing sanctions and increasing supplies to China, according to the International Energy Agency, which oversees oil production and deliveries.

Iranian oil shipments to China reached record levels in January. Nader believes that by stopping the US doing more to enforce these sanctions, it is signaling that it is ready to make a deal.

The big question for the talks, however, is who has control over what becomes a chicken game.

Henry Rome is watching the negotiations as an analyst for the Eurasia Group. He doesn’t expect a breakdown or breakthrough as both sides try to get the other to take the first step.

With Iran due to elect a new president in two months’ time, Rome said: “Iran does not want to be viewed as desperate. The Supreme Leader would prefer to wait until after the June 18 elections before even making concessions. ”

“Iran play a weak hand, but they are very good at it,” said Rom.

Yadlin is nervous that the US will be too eager for a deal and give away too much. Repeating what he calls are the mistakes of the 2015 deal. Yadlin points to Iran’s successes in enrichment and reaches the symbolic 60% mark.

“The first deal is proving to be a problem. See how fast they’re moving,” Yadlin said. “You could have enough enriched uranium to get you to two or three bombs quickly.”

While there is still some work to be done in terms of delivery methods and weapons, Yadlin has no doubt that they have the knowledge to make atomic bombs.

Pace up your Google searches with this new keyboard shortcut

Google just added a great new keyboard shortcut that you can use to refine your searches. While it won’t save a week of time, it’s easier to use than going back to the search bar, clicking it and editing your query to start a new search.

The shortcut is simple and easy to remember: if you’re on the results page for a google search, all you have to do is put the mash together “/” Key on your keyboard – a slash if you’re still getting confused with the other slash on your keyboard – and your cursor jumps back to the search box and positions itself at the very end of your query. You can then add or remove words, add operatoror do it quickly CTRL + A and delete start over.

This trick doesn’t work on first load google.combecause it doesn’t have to; Once you load the page, your cursor is already in the search box and you can enter whatever you want. However, doing multiple searches to find something will allow you to refine your search faster until you find what you came for.

And while we’re at it, we’ll give you a few more shortcuts to speed up your search. Since you can use your browser’s address bar to launch all of your Google queries instead of visiting the Google website, just mix and match CTRL + E. or CTRL + K. whenever you want to search for something on the web. If you’re not on a website that has already adopted one of the keyboard shortcuts for some other purpose (such as adding a hyperlink to the text of a blog post), your cursor will immediately jump to a blank address bar for you to start Your search.

I’ve tested this in Chrome, Edge Chromium, and Firefox and it works by floating. However, if you’re a safari fanatic, then you need to mash it Command + L.. That’s how it is on macOS. When you puree CTRL + L (or ALT + D) In Chrome, Edge Chromium or Firefox, jump to your address bar and mark everything there – a slightly different setup than deleting to do a new search.

Jumbo HDB Flats: Are They Well worth the Value You Pay ?, Cash Information

0
Jumbo HDB Flats: Are They Well worth the Value You Pay ?, Cash Information

Let’s face it, spaciousness is not a term you would commonly use to describe HDB apartments.

Today we would be lucky if our five-room BTO apartment broke the 110 square meter threshold. Because of the tight space available, our homes may feel too cramped to be comfortable, especially as the family begins to grow.

Once we reach a certain age, it is no longer easy to share our bedrooms and the one shared bathroom.

If you are looking for HDB apartments with more than three bedrooms and two bathrooms, Jumbo Apartments is the place for you, especially if you have a multi-generational family moving in.

What is a jumbo apartment?

It’s essentially an oversized version of your typical HDB apartment. Imagine two HDB apartments with three or even four rooms that together form a unit.

Formerly a common option in a bygone era when there was an oversupply of HDB apartments in the 1990s (imagine that), jumbo apartments are now only available on the resale market for those looking for a lot of space crave.

According to Property Guru, they range from 1,442 square feet to 1,830 square feet and have up to seven bedrooms.

[[nid:491207]]]

By comparison, four and five bedroom resale apartments are approximately 968 square feet (90 square meters) and 1,184 square feet (110 square meters), respectively.

The sheer size of the Jumbo Apartments means that you, your parents, three siblings and grandparents can stay comfortably under one roof – and have a large berth around each other.

However, existing units are usually only located in three districts: Woodlands, Yishun and Jurong East. The good news is that you can always buy two 3 bedroom (or smaller) apartments and merge them together if you can’t seem to find the right jumbo apartment in the resale market.

Wait, i can buy two units and make my own jumbo apartment?

This is possible under the HDB conversion scheme, which allows you to take out only one home loan when buying two HDB apartments.

This way you can merge two adjacent units to convert them into your own jumbo apartment. However, before you make an offer for the house next door, here are some things you need to do:

  • Contact HDB for an assessment and to ensure that two units can be combined
  • Complete the purchase for the two HDB apartments
  • Complete the conversion to a single (jumbo) unit through renovation

Are Jumbo Apartments Worth the Price?

A quick scroll through a listing site makes it clear that jumbo apartments aren’t exactly cheap. Just last year, a sprawling jumbo apartment in Ang Mo Kio hit the headlines when it sold for $ 1.03 million.

Depending on where the apartment is located, jumbo apartments can range from $ 740,000 to more than $ 1 million. While this is expensive for an HDB apartment, it gives you more bang for your buck when you factor in the value you get per square foot.

[[nid:462726]]]

Let’s compare between a jumbo apartment and a similarly sized apartment to see if the former is worth the price.

Today, a $ 900,000 Woodlands jumbo apartment is on the market with a floor size of 2,067 square feet and costs approximately $ 435 per square foot.

Meanwhile, with a four bedroom apartment and the exact same floor size, you can get back $ 1,780 per square foot, which is easily four times the Woodlands Jumbo apartment.

Despite its cost effectiveness, it is also important to consider how old the jumbo unit is.

Why is the age of a unit important?

If you are dealing with a jumbo apartment, they have likely matured significantly. Ang Mo Kio’s record-breaking jumbo apartment was 40 years old at the time of sale, and nearly half of its 99-year lease was shaved.

This could potentially affect the value of the business if you decide to sell it again due to a small issue called lease forfeiture.

Finally

When it comes to jumbo apartments, bigger is not only better, it is also better value for money. When you consider how a 5-bedroom Alkaff Breeze BTO brings you $ 728,000 for a modest 113-square-foot unit (that’s roughly 1,216 square feet), jumbo apartments are a lot more reasonable by comparison.

You may want to consider this unique type of apartment if you are looking for a comfortable stronghold for your multi-generation brood.

Illustration for article titled How To Make Vignettes That Really Contract A RoomPhoto: Followtheflow (Shutterstock)

Back when we were allowed to visit other people freely in their homes, you may have noticed that some seemed to have an area of knickknacks or other “decorative pieces” that were somehow grouped and somehow … worked. It didn’t look like random trash taking up space or the check-in aisle of a household item – it looked casual yet deliberate. That was a vignette, and you can do one too, probably with things that are already in your house. Here is what to do.

What exactly is a vignette?

In interior design, a vignette is just a grouping of deliberately arranged objects in places such as side tables, coffee tables, shelves or coats. in the an article for Doornob.comDawn Hammon explains vignettes as follows:

Most of the time, vignettes attract the eye and create interesting focal points within a room. And while they are a great way to proudly display your precious possessions, vignettes can just as easily become crowded eyesores.

Here’s how to create a vignette that balances natural looks – but not some tchotchkes that just fell on a shelf – without looking staged.

How to create vignettes that hold a room together

This takes a little more thought than opening the closet or going to the attic, finding a few things, and then arranging them. Here are six areas that Hammon suggests focusing on that when compiling a vignette:

  1. style
Your vignette could have a topic, but it doesn’t have to be. The aim is to find elements that complement each other in some way. “When you’re collecting historical artifacts, putting them all together on one shelf can get overwhelming,” writes Hammon. “Instead, try to put all the parts from specific eras into smaller groups. If you only have a few pieces, pair them with framed artwork, historical information, or tapestries. “
  2. distance
How you put the items in the vignettes is also important: Hammon says they should be spaced a reasonable distance to avoid blocking one object with another. “If you have too many items to cover an area, create two vignettes instead,” she says.
  3. height
Make the vignette more eye-catching by using objects of different heights so that it looks more like a skyline than a display of the same items in a store. “While the entire collection is made up of seashells, you can put them in different sizes of vases, with larger ones at the back and loose ones at the front,” Hammon writes. “If your items are really all the same size, consider adding risers to the back row to create at least more levels.”
  4. texture
The presence of several textures in a room – even in a vignette – is also eye-catching. So you can mix glass, fabric, wood, metal, leaves, etc.
  5. colour
We’re not talking about it in a kind of early 2000s “Pop of Color”, but rather paying attention to the color and background when arranging a vignette. As Hammon points out, white figures on a white background aren’t going to add much to your space.
  6. Personalize
If you have things that you’ve kept over the years because they mean something, or if you just like the way they look, include them in the vignette. This also ensures that it’s a reflection of you and your interests – and not that you walk into an IKEA and recreate one of their staged rooms piece by piece.

Why Queen Elizabeth II sat alone at Prince Philip’s funeral

It is an image that takes the world’s breath away.

April 17th Prince PhilipThe longest serving British royal consort was buried in St. George’s Chapel after a memorial service. In the midst of the coronavirus pandemic, the gathering was small – there were only 30 members of the royal family in attendance – but just as poignant. And there was no picture that pointed more to the loss of the family in those historic times than that of Queen Elizabeth the second She sat alone in a bank and mourned Philip, her almost 74-year-old husband.

Because of the pandemic, royal attendees sat at a safe distance from each other, mostly wearing face masks while inside. The image of the grieving monarch contrasted sharply with just three years earlier, when she sat in the same bench next to her beloved husband for her grandson’s wedding Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.

When the family finally said goodbye to the Duke of Edinburgh, the sovereign said goodbye to their life partner with a note that was on their stationery and placed on his coffin. It partially read, “I love you.”

‘Roaring Kitty’ foregoes a fast payday with GameStop choices within the tens of millions and will increase the stake

‘Roaring Kitty’ foregoes a fast payday with GameStop choices within the tens of millions and will increase the stake

Keith Gill, the favorite of the Reddit trading people and the man who inspired the epic GameStop Short Squeeze, just doubled his bet on the video game dealer and foregoing a quick million dollar win to increase his stake.

The investor, who offers DeepF —— Value on Reddit and Roaring Kitty on YouTube, exercised his 500 GameStop call option contracts as they expired on Friday, giving him 50,000 more shares at an exercise price of only 12 USD. If he had sold the options at Friday’s price, he could have made more than $ 7 million on the bet.

In addition to exercising these options contracts, Gill bought 50,000 more GameStop shares and increased his total investment to 200,000 shares valued at more than $ 30 million.

While he’s been giving up the quick payday on this options trading, his long investment is now even wilder profitable at its average cost of $ 55.17, according to Gill’s latest update on the Reddit r / WallStreetBets forum on Friday. GameStop closed at $ 154.69 on Friday, bringing it to a profit of nearly $ 20 million. (The post hasn’t been independently verified by CNBC so we’ll assume it’s his actual account.)

Gill attracted an army of day traders who piled into the stationary video game and call options, propelling stocks up 400% in a single week in January. GameStop is up 720% over the year.

Shares rose slightly after close of business with some investors, perhaps encouraging Gill to exercise his call options to get even longer.

The investor was a former Massachusetts Mutual Life Insurance marketer. Through YouTube videos and Reddit posts, Gill encouraged a group of retailers to drive out hedge fund short selling on GameStop.

The action got so wild at one point that brokers, including Robinhood, had to restrict trading in stocks as it blew up their clearinghouse margin. The mania also led to a series of Congressional hearings where Gill discussed brokerage practices and retail gamifying.

Gill owned 10,000 shares of GameStop at the end of 2020 and increased his stake to 50,000 shares in January and 100,000 shares in mid-February. Judging by the updates he posted on Reddit, he has not sold his GameStop stakes in the incredibly short period of time or in the period that followed.

The GameStop story is far from over. In addition to reviewing the retail saga, the company is itself in the midst of a transformation and hopes to capitalize on the massive price rally.

GameStop announced a $ 1 billion stock sale in early April to accelerate the transition to e-commerce led by activist investor and board member Ryan Cohen, co-founder of Chewy. The company also hired former Amazon and Google CEO Jenna Owens as its new chief operating officer.

The term “gas lighting” – like psychological manipulation, not the 19th century profession – has been used widely over the past decade. And while it can be both overused and abused, awareness of the concept in general has been helpful to many people who have experienced this type of behavior from a partner, colleague, family member, or friend but didn’t have a word for it.

There are many articles out there that break down gas lighting, its origins and the causes associated with it. In short, it’s about one person making another person question – and doubt – their own memory of something in order to benefit from it in some way. in the an article for mindbodygreenTherapist Alyssa Mancao breaks down some of the signs that you are gas lit, as well as what to say to the person behind the manipulative behavior.

How to know if you are gas lit.

First, Mancao says it is important to recognize the symptoms of gas lighting that she explains here::

If a person is constantly exposed to gas, they will show signs of decreased self-esteem and emotional dependence on the perpetrator. During a conflict in which someone sets you on fire, you can experience a range of emotions, from confusion and anger to frustration, and find yourself in argumentative circles both out loud and in your head. This kind of back and forth is exhausting and can affect your confidence.

Some of the most common gas light phrases are:

  • “They make things up.”
  • “That never happened.”
  • “You are dramatic.”
  • “They blow things disproportionately.”

Support you

This is easier said than done when you face someone who is constantly trying to belittle and manipulate you, but Mancao says it’s important that you believe yourself – even when your gas lighter is trying to tell your own truths, memories, and Past perceptions distort events. It can be helpful to write things down to record how you feel while things are happening.

What should I say to someone who lights you with gas?

If you’ve been in this situation yourself, you know how difficult it can be. As Mancao points out, some of the main gas light methods are to lie openly, postpone the narration, and try to minimize your feelings and experiences. “If you start the conversation knowing your purpose, instead of being rotated in the different directions a person with gas light can lead you, stay centered on a path,” she writes.

Also, don’t be afraid to just end the conversation and leave – that’s an option too. “The goal of the person lighting gas light is to make you doubt your perception. So if you walk away before the gas light becomes strong, you can maintain your perception of events,” explains Mancao.

If it helps to have certain sentences in your pocket, Mancao suggests this::

  • “My feelings and my reality are valid. I don’t appreciate you telling me that I’m too sensitive. “
  • “Don’t tell me how to feel; That’s how I feel.”
  • “I am allowed to explore these topics and conversations with you. Don’t tell me that I’m dramatic “
  • “I know what I saw.”
  • “I’m not going to continue this conversation if you keep minimizing what I’m feeling.” (Then implement the limit.)

Ultimately, try to be kind to yourself – even if it means walking away.
