The World Health Organization said Monday that the coronavirus pandemic is now “growing exponentially.” More than 4.4 million new Covid-19 cases were reported in the past week.

Maria Van Kerkhove, the agency’s technical director for Covid-19, said “we are at a critical juncture in the pandemic” as some countries are easing restrictions, even if the number of new cases per week is more than eight times higher than before a year.

“This is not where we want to be in a pandemic 16 months from now, where we have demonstrated control measures. It is now the time when everyone has to take stock and do a reality check of what we have to do,” said she said during a press conference. “Vaccines and vaccinations are going online, but they are not yet available in all parts of the world.”

Covid-19 cases worldwide rose 9% last week – the seventh straight weekly increase – and the death toll rose 5%. She urged governments to help their citizens implement pandemic security measures.

Last month, WHO officials warned of a steady spike in cases and deaths in Covid-19, urging people to adhere to mask mandates and social distancing rules as the world enters a critical phase of the pandemic.

The virus is “stronger, it’s faster” as new varieties emerge that are easier to spread and more deadly than the original wild strain of the virus, said Dr. Mike Ryan, WHO director of health emergencies, on March 31. “We all have problems” and fed up with restrictive bans, he said.

India overtook Brazil as the second worst infected country after the US after Covid-19 cases continued to rise across India, where a double mutant variant that researchers say may be more contagious has emerged and is spreading rapidly.

In the US, B.1.1.7, the highly contagious variant of coronavirus first identified in the UK is now the most common circulating strain, said Dr. Rochelle Walensky, director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, last week.

Hospitals are also seeing an increase in admission for young people, she said.

Walensky said the US needs to speed up its vaccination efforts, which averaged 3.1 million shots a day. “We must continue to vaccinate as many Americans as possible every day,” Walensky said, adding that new cases and deaths will decline.

WHO urged the public and world leaders to continue to adopt safety measures, including social distancing, wearing masks, washing hands and avoiding crowded rooms.

The several types of beef and what they imply

The several types of beef and what they imply

Humans “know” that meat comes from animals, but it’s easy to forget how complex these animals are. A cow’s diet, living conditions, and lifespan can all affect how steaks, roasts, or other cuts react to heat. One way to predict the outcome is to understand the various factors USDA beefs.

If you are a meat eater, you have most likely seen the little USDA sign stickers that inform us all that the USDA has looked at this meat and tell us what type of meat it is. There are actually eight (8!) Different types of beef, although supermarket shoppers are unlikely to come across the bottom five types (Standard, Commercial, Utility, Cutter, and Canner). Grading is a service provided by the USDA and paid for by the manufacturer or processor. The appropriate grading is done after an inspector examines a hanging carcass cut between the 12th and 13th ribs, which allows them to easily see the piece of rib. The age of the animal and the color of the meat are also taken into account. According to Meatscience.org“All cattle classified as Prime, Choice or Select are young cattle that have not yet reached full maturity.”

Prime

This is the chic boy meat with the most marbling and flavor. These cows are young and well fed, and their meat is tender and well marbled. However, these cows are not the most common. According to WeberThey only make up “4½ to 5 percent of total graded cattle,” which is actually a pretty big increase “from a few years ago when it was only about 2 percent”. Most meat goes to restaurants and hotels, but you can find it from time to time in butcher shops or fancier grocery stores. The intramuscular fat (marbling) means that steaks with a top rating will stay juicy and flavorful even in dry heat. So grab them when you see them (especially if they are reduced at all).

choice

This is the most common type of beef. “Choice” cows make up about 65% of all graded cattle. Their meat is decently marbled (though not as marbled as “Prime”), and it’s what you’re most likely to find in the grocery store. Choice steaks can be really great, but it’s worth noting that “variety” is a choice and that some steaks with this variety may be more marbled than others. Meatscience.org has some good pictures for each of the varieties, but it’s always a good idea to look at the meat you buy and choose the one with the most intramuscular fat that will flow through the meat. The more marble a piece of meat has, the more likely it is that it will do well in dry heat. (If you think your steak is at the low end of the range, you can always use a wet cooking method such as braising or braising Sous vide cooking.)

Choose

This is most likely the lowest grade of USDA beef you can find in the grocery store. Some chains use this type of beef as a house brand. Selected meat is very even and fairly lean with very little marbling. Selected steaks aren’t as tender or tasty as their best and best counterparts Beat on a marinade If you intend to use a dry cooking method and try not to cook it for very long. If you’re making a stew, pot roast, or other dish that uses a liquid-intensive cooking method, selected cuts will work just fine.

What about Wagyu?

Wagyu beef comes from four very specific breeds of Japanese cows, and its classification is completely separate from the USDA system. Wagyu grading is carried out by the Japanese Meat Grading Association (JMGA) and is graded on a scale from 1 to 12, with “12” being the absolute best and “1” being the worst. According to the Chicago Steak Company Steak University“The JMGA gives a rating for Wagyu beef based on its fat color, meat color, rib eye shape, size of the rib area, and the IMF% for its marbling.” Most Wagyu beef would fall into the USDA “premium” rating due to its normally impressive amount of marbling.

But her former makeup artist, Billy Brasfield, claimed he texted her directly and learned that the message was not entirely written by her.

Then TMZ claimed that Britney “herself” spoke to the point of sale and said, “No, I don’t speak to him at all. I write my posts. I’m not sure who he’s talking to, but I don’t speak to Billy B.”

Meanwhile, she keeps dropping new cryptic posts for fans to ponder, including her recent news about the color red, which has been accompanied by images of red lips, a red refrigerator, and more random symbols. Three days ago she mysteriously teased, “RED is coming to theaters near you … KIDDING folks.”

In response to today’s post, one fan wrote, “Queen, it’s our part-time job to take care of your life.” Another said, “This is the strangest behavior … I hope you are really well, girls. We love you.”

Ask your potential landlord these questions as they will not inform you the rest

Going through the apartment is like an interview. You have the option to tour the room while the super or landlord sees if you are a good tenant. And just like an interview, it’s important to ask questions during the walkthrough. There are definitely a few things the landlord or property manager probably won’t tell you. So ask before jumping into a new apartment (and signing a new lease). Here are six things to consider when visiting your next potential new home.

What fees do they charge and how are they treated?

Before starting your search, it is important to understand the legal implications of the landlord’s policies. For example, in California, landlords cannot legally require a security deposit equal to that security deposit more than two months’ The value of the rent and deposits are always legally refundable. Fees, including any pet deposit, will be considered part of your security deposit. So make sure you understand your rights as a renter and inquire about their fees and policies for details.

Knowing the laws is also important to make sure the home is legal. Some landlords create or advertise apartments that violate the law. For example, in New York City, if an apartment doesn’t have a secondary exit, it can’t legally rented as living space. Be sure to ask about exits, windows, and other safety concerns.

How do you deal with repairs and pest control?

Your landlord is responsible for maintaining the quality of life in your home. Includes viability Maintenance of electrical functions, plumbing, heat and hot water and much more. Minor repairs due to wear and tear (like a loose floorboard or a torn window pane) do not technically make the apartment uninhabitable, but they are required for you to enjoy the space. Landlords typically have 30 days to fix cosmetic issues and three to seven days to fix cosmetic issues Arrange for major repairs (depending on your state and district). Ask the landlord or superintendent about the procedures for cosmetic and more serious corrections.

G / O Media can receive a commission

The same applies to pest control: it is the responsibility of the landlord to keep the room free from vermin. If the room is invaded due to your own negligence, this is another problem Landlord could punish you. Ask about all aspects of their extermination policy.

How does management deal with advance notice for maintenance work?

Ask about guidelines for pre-announcing inspections that will involve entering your equipment and notifying you of utility shutdowns. Landlords often need to make routine repairs or changes that can result in brief water or gas outages. Ask the landlord how much advance notice they give for home repairs. The last thing you want is an unexpected water failure or your landlord shows up unannounced to rummage around your home.

Has there been a recent change of ownership?

If your building is managed by a management company, ask how long they have been managing it and whether the building has recently been sold or is for sale, especially if you are looking at an apartment building. My husband and I rented the top floor of a house once only so the owner decided to sell to retire in Florida the following year. We thought it was great that the apartment would have stayed for another year; Instead, we had to move. Stay up to date with the laws of your state and know your rights When the owners decide to sell the building or house you are renting.

What are their pet guidelines?

Some buildings or rental apartments allow pets, but have special rules for renters with pets. Some require pets to be registered in the building, while others just want to check the pet’s vaccinations and health information on their records. The humane society notes, “Even if a landlord advertises” no pets “or has size or breed restrictions, some exceptions make … it’s worth asking in a friendly or personal way.” Even if you don’t own pets but are curious to see if your neighbors might have them, it’s a good idea to ask about their pet guidelines. And remember, even if a rental policy says “no pets”, the landlord cannot legally refuse to allow service animals to enter the residence.

What can they tell you about the previous tenants?

You want to make sure that you don’t inherit any damage or problems from previous tenants. ask how long the previous tenant were in the room and what (if any) problems they had. Some landlords will post their details as they will take care of the space as much as you do. (Unlike buying a house, landlords don’t have to disclose if someone died in the apartment or notBe sure to post anything in the apartment that may have been left behind by previous tenants, as well as any maintenance issues you discover – you don’t want to be held responsible for damage caused by previous tenants.

Are the hooks in your squat rack too excessive?

0
Are the hooks in your squat rack too excessive?

Barbell on a rackPhoto: Valerii__Dex (Shutterstock)

This goes to the beginner lifters out there who squat and sit on the bench but never feel as stable as the experienced lifters in the next rack. While your form might need a little work (and you could probably benefit from it Squat shoes) there’s something else you probably overlooked: the height of the hooks on the rack.

The hooks, of course, hold the bar while you load it and get ready to lift. Let’s talk about the squat rack first: you’ll likely set up the hooks so the bar is somewhere shoulder level. Then get under the bar with your knees slightly bent and straighten your legs to stand up so the bar is on your back. Then take a step or two back from the rack and start crouching.

Here’s how to know if the hooks are set incorrectly: If you have to shrug your shoulders as you step back, they are too high. If you get on your tiptoe, it’s too high. If you sometimes scratch or hit the bar against the lip of the hook as you step back, you are too high. If you use even one brain cell to ponder whether any of these things could happen during your strike, they are too high. Oh, and if you shrug your shoulders or tiptoe while you put the bar back on the rack, that counts too.

Why it matters

If the hooks are too high, you will have to shrug your shoulders or tiptoe to get off the bar. This is unsafe (and at least annoying) when you have a heavy bar on your back. That’s a problem.

G / O Media can receive a commission

If the hooks are too low, all you have to do is bend your knees a little more to get under the bar in the first place. This is not a problem.

How to find the right height

As you approach the rack to do squats, take a minute to place the bar on your back. Get up with it. (Imagine doing your top set and it’s really hard.) When it almost hits the hooks, remove the bar and bring the hooks down a notch or two. Remember, there is no real disadvantage if the hooks are too low.

Most racks allow you to rotate and pull them J cups to move them. On some types of squats, there may be a post that moves up and down with a pin or lever. Others just have a series of solid hooks and you put the bar in the position you feel right in. If any of these hooks or holes are numbered, write the number down in your training diary (or write it down on your phone or whatever works) so that you can set it up quickly next time.

If you and a partner are working together and are of different heights or preferences, put the bar on the option below. So if Susie is 5’2 “and Timmy is 6’0” and they are both preparing to crouch on the same 300 pound bar, the hooks should be at Susie’s height and Timmy just needs to bend his knees a little more to get set up. The alternative would be to put the hooks too high for Susie, which is unsafe for her.

This also applies to the bench press

There are few things sadder than watching a new lift carefully set up for you Bench pressThey tuck their shoulder blades under themselves and set up a real arch. Then they ruin everything by reaching up to a pole that is too high.

The problem is the same as with squats, and the warning signs are similar: when you straighten your elbows with your hands in your preferred grip and your shoulders are still packed under you and you can’t clean the lip of the hook that is the bar too high. Same goes if you need to take a tighter grip than you prefer. As I mentioned beforeI spent an embarrassing time (in hindsight) sitting on the bench with too tight a grip because, as a beginner, it never occurred to me that I could lower the bar and place my hands wider.

Again, unless you have trouble taking the bar off the hook to start your lift, there is no real disadvantage in setting it too low. If this happens, ask a friendly lifter nearby to give you a handover. (This is a similar interaction as if you were Ask them to discover you, but if you just want a first handover and no space, just say so.)

Some gyms come with just a few hooks for each bank station or squat rack, which can be annoying but is rarely an insurmountable problem. Take the time to examine your options: Does one of the benches have fewer hooks than the others? Could the low hook actually turn out to be perfect? Experiment and see.

And if you hold onto a particular hook because you don’t know how to adjust the rack, ask for help. Learning the pros and cons of your equipment is good and no one whose opinion is worth anything will judge you for it.

Two months ago, the native Texan openly filed for divorce, telling Rolling Stone that their relationship “just didn’t work out.”

“It’s nothing more than that,” she explained. “It’s two people who love each other so much, but for so many reasons it just didn’t work. I mean, the seasons change. Our season has changed.”

The Bravo star filed for divorce from Tom in November ’81, while later introducing his alleged “mistress” – Judge Tricia A. Bigelow – to millions of her social media followers.

Shortly after filing, the former couple were accused of embezzling money “to fund their lavish lifestyle.”

Erika has denied claims that she “embezzled” millions of dollars, some of which were supposed to go to “widows and orphans who lost loved ones in the tragic crash of Lion Air Flight 610”.

Every day US information on April 12th

Every day US information on April 12th

The US reported 4.6 million vaccine doses given on Saturday, a daily record, and another 3.6 million shots on Sunday. This means that the daily average of the doses administered in the last week is 3.1 million.

At the same time, the country is reporting 70,000 new coronavirus infections per day, according to data from Johns Hopkins University, the same increase as last summer when the average number of cases peaked at 67,000 in late July.

No state has more daily infections per capita than Michigan, according to a CNBC analysis of Hopkins data. Daily case numbers and hospital stays are approaching the state’s previous highs and Covid-19 deaths soaring there.

US Covid cases

The US has reported an average of 70,000 new Covid-19 cases per day over the past week, Hopkins data shows. Although this number is well below the country’s winter peak of around 250,000 new cases per day, it corresponds to the number of cases reported during the country’s “second wave” in summer, which reached record highs at the time.

Michigan is seeing nearly 7,400 new cases a day, nearing the state’s record high of more than 8,300 a day set in December. On Friday, Governor Gretchen Whitmer urged high schools to temporarily stop personal learning and urged residents to limit activities. The governor also urged schools to voluntarily suspend the sports games and not eat residents in person for two weeks to help slow the spread.

The death toll in Michigan is also rising. The state reports an average of 43 Covid deaths per day for the past week, up from 30 the week before.

According to Hopkins data, the average daily case number in 29 states has increased 5% or more in a week.

US Covid deaths

The U.S. has reported an average of 981 daily Covid-19 deaths over the past week, according to Hopkins data.

The recent U.S. trend in coronavirus deaths is masked by a release of approximately 1,800 Oklahoma deaths. These deaths are currently all reported for April 7, 2021, even though they occurred weeks or months earlier. The Oklahoma Department of Health announced that the state is currently transitioning to data reporting guidelines that meet the requirements of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, which is causing the surge.

Prior to this reporting anomaly, the daily US Covid death toll had declined from record levels in January.

US vaccine shots administered

According to CDC data, the country reported a daily record of 4.6 million vaccine doses administered on Saturday, and the US averaged 3.1 million shots a day over the past week.

US percentage of the vaccinated population

More than a third of the US population has received at least one dose of a Covid vaccine, and more than a fifth are fully vaccinated, CDC data shows.

Of those 65 year olds and older, 78% received at least one dose and 61% were fully vaccinated.

Spotify has a brand new voice helper in its Android and iOS apps. Shouting “Hey Spotify” on your device gives you hands-free control of every aspect of the Spotify app – useful when you’re driving or cleaning the house. The first set of users in the US should now have access to the feature, and the company says it will roll out to more devices in the coming weeks.

While you can control Spotify with your voice via Android Audio and Google Assistant on Android and to a limited extent via Siri and CarPlay on Apple devices, “Hey Spotify” interacts directly with the Spotify app. That means you can use voice control without having to train your device’s digital assistant to recognize Spotify-specific commands.

Once “Hey Spotify” is available on your device, you need to activate voice control in the app in order to use it:

How to activate the “Hey Spotify” voice control

  1. Open the Spotify app.
  1. Go to “Search” Tab.
  2. Tap the microphone icon next to the search bar.
  3. Choose “Turn on ‘Hey Spotify’.”
  4. Give Spotify permission to record audio.

You can now use Spotify’s built-in voice control. Just say “Hey Spotify” followed by a command. Ask them to play a specific artist or playlist you created, pause or skip tracks, or download the latest episode of a podcast. You can also do voice searches without having to switch to a special voice mode first.

If you want to turn the feature off, go to Go Settings> Voice Interactions and deactivate “Hey Spotify.” This prevents accidental activations and is smart for privacy if you find that once activated you will never use the feature again.

As with other voice-activated apps, Spotify listens in the background for you to say “Hey Spotify”. According to Spotify, the app only hears in short bursts that are deleted immediately. When a command is detected, it will play in-app notifications and audio tones to let you know that the app is recording you. Recording is required for the app to process your commands, but you can read Spotify Voice Data Privacy Policy If you want to learn more about how your speech audio is treated.
