President Joe Biden announced Monday that some Americans who have long-term effects from Covid may be eligible for disability resources and federal government protections.

The announcement came as the President celebrated the 31st anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act in a speech in the White House Rose Garden with Vice President Kamala Harris. It also happens that the long-term symptoms of the virus, what some refer to as “long covid”, are becoming a major public health problem.

“We are bringing agencies together to ensure that Americans with long Covid who have a disability have access to the rights and resources that are due under the Disability Act,” Biden said during his remarks.

Under the guidance of the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Justice, Covid can for a long time be considered a disability under federal citizenship laws if it “significantly restricts one or more important life activities”.

This means that individuals with prolonged symptoms of Covid leading to disability are entitled to resources and protection from discrimination under state disability laws.

What I discovered about weightlifting from two Olympians

Lifting a huge barbell explosively above your head requires strength, technique and a certain fearlessness. I trained this sport – Olympic style Weightlifting– for about two years, and it seems like I find something new about it every day. I recently had the chance to ask two members of the U.S. Olympic weightlifting team, Jourdan Delacruz and CJ Cummings, how they train, how to stay motivated, and what it’s like to step on the platform under so much pressure.

Your answers were illuminating for me, partly for what they do differently from me and from each other, but also for the same thing. Both of them told me, for example, that beginners need to be patient and remember that they’re going to be around in the long run – something my coach has told me a million times.

This is a sport where you only do two exercises: the snatch, which brings a barbell up off the floor in one quick motion, and the clean and jerk, which does it in two steps. The moves are tricky and you need to do them consistently enough to become second nature. Pulling a little too hard or keeping your balance a little too far forward or backward can mean the difference between a miss and a make, a win and a loss.

So you spend hours working out every week, and it all boils down to six minutes on a big day.

How do you stay motivated to exercise every day?

My trainer programs me three to five days of weightlifting every week. I usually fill in my remaining time with other exercises and training for other sports, but that’s because otherwise I get bored and enjoy lifting. I find staying physically busy works wonders for my mental health. But it would probably be different for me if lifting was my job, so I asked these two Olympians how they stay motivated to exercise every day.

“You know, there are days when it gets tough, but you just have to keep remembering your goal and why you’re doing it,” says CJ, also mentioning that often people don’t know how much fun Olympic lifting can be. “I love doing what I do.”

Jourdan also connects her everyday training with her goals. “I have my big goals and then I have my very small goals,” she says; As a recent example of the latter, she cites that in the chaos of 2020, she’s getting heavier on squats and focusing on the mental health loop.)

Note that backing up your data this way is different from adding an external drive to your PS5’s storage. While technically producing similar results, the backup and restore features are helpful for unloading data that you don’t need on your PS5 right away and for recovering it in the event of a crash or data corruption.

On the other hand, adding more storage to your PS5 allows you to install (and in some cases play) games from the hard drive itself, but that requires certain types of hard drives and USB cables. Back up and restore PS5 data with an external USB hard drive

The PS5’s backup and restore feature works with a wide variety of USB storage devices, but you should make sure you have enough free space on your external drive before starting the backup process.

California requires authorities officers to offer proof of Covid vaccination

California will require government employees and some health care workers to provide evidence of Covid-19 or undergo mandatory weekly tests, senior state officials said Monday.

The program will require proof of vaccination from all state employees starting Aug. 2, state health officials said. All civil servants who remain unvaccinated by this date must present a negative Covid test at least once a week.

In government health care facilities, employees who work in a hospital are required to have a Covid vaccine or show negative Covid tests twice a week. Unvaccinated people are advised to wear N95 masks while working. Medical staff in outpatient facilities such as dental practices also have to do a Covid test once a week.

“We are at a point in this epidemic of this pandemic where the decision not to be vaccinated is now profound, devastating and deadly for the rest of us,” said Governor Gavin Newsom when announcing the new order. “This election has led to an increase in the number of cases, growing concerns about rising mortality rates and apparently induced hospitalizations.”

While the state already requires employees to disclose whether they have been vaccinated if they do not wish to wear masks indoors, they do not need to provide proof of vaccination. The new guidelines require proof of vaccination for all civil servants and mandatory tests for those who do not provide proof.

“Our projections are sobering,” said Newsom, noting that state officials are forecasting a “significant increase in hospital admissions” over the next few weeks that will put pressure on local hospitals.

New York Mayor Bill de Blasio recently introduced similar guidelines for city and health workers, NBC New York reported. All employees who fail to provide proof of vaccination by September 13 are required to have a weekly coronavirus test, and all unvaccinated employees must wear a mask at work starting August 2.

California saw vaccination rates rise 16% last week as the Delta variant quickly spread across the state. It now makes up about 80% of all newly sequenced cases, health officials said.

Los Angeles County recently redesigned its indoor mask mandate regardless of vaccination status.

When asked about a statewide mask mandate, Newsom said the majority of Californians live in jurisdictions that either mandate or encourage the use of masks. “Our focus is on vaccinations, so there won’t be a need.” he said.

The U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs also announced Monday that Covid vaccinations are required for all health care workers who work in Veterans Health Administration facilities.

“VA is taking this necessary step to protect the veterans it serves,” the agency wrote on its website. It is the first federal agency to mandate vaccinations and give employees eight weeks to get their vaccinations.
