California will require government employees and some health care workers to provide evidence of Covid-19 or undergo mandatory weekly tests, senior state officials said Monday.

The program will require proof of vaccination from all state employees starting Aug. 2, state health officials said. All civil servants who remain unvaccinated by this date must present a negative Covid test at least once a week.

In government health care facilities, employees who work in a hospital are required to have a Covid vaccine or show negative Covid tests twice a week. Unvaccinated people are advised to wear N95 masks while working. Medical staff in outpatient facilities such as dental practices also have to do a Covid test once a week.

“We are at a point in this epidemic of this pandemic where the decision not to be vaccinated is now profound, devastating and deadly for the rest of us,” said Governor Gavin Newsom when announcing the new order. “This election has led to an increase in the number of cases, growing concerns about rising mortality rates and apparently induced hospitalizations.”

While the state already requires employees to disclose whether they have been vaccinated if they do not wish to wear masks indoors, they do not need to provide proof of vaccination. The new guidelines require proof of vaccination for all civil servants and mandatory tests for those who do not provide proof.

“Our projections are sobering,” said Newsom, noting that state officials are forecasting a “significant increase in hospital admissions” over the next few weeks that will put pressure on local hospitals.

New York Mayor Bill de Blasio recently introduced similar guidelines for city and health workers, NBC New York reported. All employees who fail to provide proof of vaccination by September 13 are required to have a weekly coronavirus test, and all unvaccinated employees must wear a mask at work starting August 2.

California saw vaccination rates rise 16% last week as the Delta variant quickly spread across the state. It now makes up about 80% of all newly sequenced cases, health officials said.

Los Angeles County recently redesigned its indoor mask mandate regardless of vaccination status.

When asked about a statewide mask mandate, Newsom said the majority of Californians live in jurisdictions that either mandate or encourage the use of masks. “Our focus is on vaccinations, so there won’t be a need.” he said.

The U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs also announced Monday that Covid vaccinations are required for all health care workers who work in Veterans Health Administration facilities.

“VA is taking this necessary step to protect the veterans it serves,” the agency wrote on its website. It is the first federal agency to mandate vaccinations and give employees eight weeks to get their vaccinations.

Methods to use Middle Stage on an iPad Professional

While it feels like we’ve been using zooming and FaceTiming and Google Hangouts for ages, most of us still haven’t figured out how to look good on a video call. Fortunately, a new feature called Center Stage has been introduced on the iPad Pro that will make you look a little better in front of the camera with little effort.

Center Stage only works with the ultra-wide front cameras on the iPad Pro and tries to keep you in focus even if you move around in the frame. This means that when you put on your iPad Pro, the camera follows you and automatically re-focuses, even if you move closer, further away or to the side.

To turn Center Stage on for FaceTime, open Settings and tap FaceTime. Make sure the Center Stage switch is on (just turn it off again if / when you want to turn it off). If you’re already on a FaceTime call, you can swipe up from the bottom of the screen and toggle it on or off in the menu that appears.

Unless you’re a regular user of Apple’s proprietary video calling app, they have allowed the feature to be enabled on other video calling platforms, including Zoom. During a Zoom call on an iPad Pro, you’ll see the option to toggle Center Stage on or off in the left sidebar, just below the options to toggle the camera and active speaker views.

Now you can at least have confidence that your face will be in focus and in the picture, even when you move. Exactly how your face looks (and what you wear or don’t wear right now off-camera) is entirely up to you.

A fresh wardrobe and immersion in seasonal trends are hip for many of us, but even the fastest fashion can be expensive.

But a sales expert from a discounter and an experienced bargain hunter said that their advice could save enormous amounts of money.

Hazel Wood, 25, of Essex is a finance paraplaner and it’s her job to develop monetary plans to advance Pennies.

She saved over £ 300 on her summer store and saved an average of 81% on 14 items online including clothing, makeup and even homeware.

Stuart McClure, the sales executive and co-founder of LovetheSales.com, offered his expertise and stated that the summer sale is a critical time for retailers to move inventory.

In total, on this advice, Hazel has spent £ 86.69 and saved £ 337.48.

Use the filters

One of the first things Hazel does on a website is just shop online from the discount pages by going to the filters section and selecting sale items by their size.

She said, “I like finding the biggest bargains available and making outfits with what I find.

“I started doing this trick about three years ago when I moved out of my parents’ house and realized the importance of stretching every pound.”

If you stay vigilant, you can spot the sales first.

Hazel said she could save even more by looking for first-time buyer deals – another thing to look out for when shopping for a bargain.

The S&P 500 hovered around its record Monday after a busy week of earnings reporting from the technology’s biggest hits.

The broad equity benchmark traded near the flatline after hitting an all-time high. The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 70 points. The tech-heavy Nasdaq Composite rose 0.2% to hit a new intraday high.

One of the busiest weeks with results reporting is on deck, and Tesla is kicking off after the closing bell. Last week, CEO Elon Musk said the automaker would likely accept bitcoin for vehicle purchases again. The electric vehicle maker’s shares rose 2.4%.

Big tech giants Apple, Alphabet and Microsoft will be reporting on Tuesday, and Google, Facebook and Amazon will be reporting later in the week as well.

The second quarter reporting season was stronger than expected, helping stocks climb back to record highs. So far, 88% of the S&P 500 companies have reported a positive EPS surprise, according to FactSet. If 88% is the final percentage, it is the highest percentage since FactSet started tracking this metric in 2008.

“US stocks remain resilient as they continue to climb the record wall of worry,” said Craig Johnson, chief market technician at Piper Sandler. “An impressive start to the earnings season has kept the buy-the-dip mood alive, offsetting concerns about peak growth and rising new cases of coronavirus.”

All three major averages closed at record highs last week after the market collapsed earlier this week amid concerns about the spread of the Delta variant of Covid and the potential hindrance to economic recovery.

Uncertainty caused bond yields to decline briefly and investors moved into tech stocks. Both bonds and stocks rallied quickly by the end of the week.

“Investors are concerned about the delta option’s impact on economic growth, but the new exposure shouldn’t pose a major market risk,” said David Kostin, head of US equity strategy at Goldman Sachs, in a press release. “Vaccinations, household and corporate stock demand, and attractive relative valuations will support capital inflows and prices.”

Also on Monday, Bitcoin surged above $ 39,000 for the first time since mid-June as sentiment turned bullish after a recent sell-off that pushed the cryptocurrency below $ 30,000.

On the data front, sales of new U.S. single-family homes unexpectedly declined in June, falling 6.6% to a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 676,000 units, the Department of Commerce said Monday. Economists polled by Dow Jones had expected new home sales to rise to 795,000 units in June.

Hong Kong stocks suffered heavy losses during Monday’s Asian trading session, with the city’s Hang Seng index plunging 4% as the government tightened technology crackdown.

Investors will be watching the Federal Reserve’s two-day monetary policy meeting starting Tuesday. The Federal Reserve Open Market Committee and Board of Governors are expected to issue a policy statement on Wednesday. On Thursday the Ministry of Commerce will publish the GDP data for the second quarter.

There is a little catch with requesting a credit card limit increase: a higher limit can improve your creditworthiness, but an increase can also temporarily affect your creditworthiness. What if the lender rejects your application? You have just hit your credit score for no reason – which may be literally the opposite of what you tried to do in the first place. This ensures that you are approved for a limit increase before submitting an application.

Wait, how does increasing my credit limit improve my credit score?

Credit bureaus base 30% of your credit score on yours Credit utilization rate, which is a measure of how much available credit you are not using (the less you use the better). By applying for a higher credit limit, you can easily improve your score, which in turn makes your credit easier.

To request a credit limit increase, contact your lender either online or by phone (using the number on the back of your card). The downside is that the process often involves a tough query of your credit that can lower your credit by around 5 points, usually for a few months.

How do I know if I am entitled to an increase in the credit limit?

Unfortunately, lenders are somewhat vague about whether or not you will qualify. However, there are ways to improve your chances of a limit increase:

G / O Media can receive a commission

  • Your income or credit has recently increased: Often times, if you make more money or have better balance than the first time you applied for the card, that’s all you need to get a raise.
  • Know your financial situation (and be specific): Your lender may want to know information such as your total annual income, employment status, and monthly mortgage or rent payment. In some cases this is verified before the increase is approved. So make sure the information you provide is correct.
  • Don’t get greedy: The rule of thumb is to increase the credit line by 10 to 25 percent.
  • You paid off your monthly credit on time: You want at least a couple of months of consistent repayments to appear like a trusted borrower.
  • Apply if your credit utilization is already low: You don’t want to be desperate for more debt than you already have, so try to limit your debt usage to less than 30% when you apply.
  • Plan your request strategically: A hard query will only hurt your credit score for a few months, but that could affect your ability to qualify for low-interest loans. Therefore, consider waiting before increasing the credit limit if you are looking to fund a major purchase such as a home or car. Also, don’t apply for many loans and credit cards at once, as this can be a red flag for lenders.

You can also ask if your request has a hard request. Some inquiries only require a gentle query about your creditworthiness, which means your creditworthiness will not be affected at all.

SkyBridge’s Anthony Scaramucci orders Covid vaccines in his workplace

SkyBridge’s Anthony Scaramucci orders Covid vaccines in his workplace

Anthony Scaramucci, founder and co-managing director of SkyBridge, told CNBC on Friday that he had commissioned Covid recordings in his hedge fund’s office.

He also urged all eligible Americans to get vaccinated.

“We are a private company. If someone wants to argue with me about the vaccine mandate, that’s fine. Let’s take it to court, ”said Scaramucci in“ Squawk Box ”and begged other companies to follow suit.

“Make a decision. You’re a private company. Let’s shut it out. We need to keep people safe. Get vaccinated. If you don’t want to get vaccinated, go. That should be the message, and that People will start getting you vaccinated. “

Scaramucci’s comments come at a critical time in the coronavirus pandemic as the US sees a spike in new infections related to the highly communicable Delta variant and health officials scramble to combat reluctance and resistance to Covid vaccines.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, approximately 49% of the US population are fully vaccinated and 56.4% have received at least one dose of vaccine. Most of the people in the country who received injections received vaccines from Pfizer-BioNTech or Moderna that require two doses. Johnson & Johnson’s vaccine requires a shot. These are the only three approved for emergency use in the United States

However, vaccination rates have slowed significantly since mid-April, when the seven-day average of daily doses administered exceeded 3.4 million. On July 17, the weekly average of the administered daily doses was just under 450,000 according to CDC data.

Scaramucci, who briefly served as White House communications director in the Trump administration, tried to push back various conspiracy theories about the Covid vaccines. He stressed that they are safe and effective in preventing serious illness and death, and has been shown to reduce the transmission of the virus.

“I don’t have a microchip in my body. It has not genetically modified my cells. It protects me from the worst pandemic in the last 100 years and enables our economy to open up,” said Scaramucci, who also sees it as his responsibility as a father from children who are not yet eligible for the vaccine. “When you have young children … vaccinate yourself to protect your children.”

Scaramucci acknowledged that some people might be suspicious of government and large institutions, but he said the science of vaccination is clear. The more Americans get vaccinated, the better for the whole country, he said.

“I don’t like totalitarian nonsense. That’s not the point. It’s about the fact that we have to unite as a society from time to time to protect each other,” said Scaramucci. “If we all get vaccinated, we will be in society faster and the economy will grow faster and there will be more jobs and more incomes.”

Companies requiring their employees to be vaccinated have been a controversial issue throughout the pandemic, in part because the Food and Drug Administration only issued emergency clearances for the three vaccines.

Former FDA chief and Pfizer board member Dr. Scott Gottlieb told Squawk Box that he expects companies and organizations to take a more binding position on vaccination regulations once full regulatory approval is obtained.

“Hopefully when we go into the fall and winter the vaccines will get full approval … I think you will see more mandates come in. Surely, in the healthcare sector, you start to see” this is becoming commonplace, “he said .

“The business wants to start again. People want to resume activities, and to the extent that the vaccines provide an extra measure to do it safely and protect places where you bring people together, I think we will have more sports teams and more business premises see and start prescribing vaccinations. ”

Disclosure: Scott Gottlieb is a CNBC employee and a member of the board of directors of Pfizer, genetic testing startup Tempus, health technology company Aetion Inc., and biotechnology company Illumina. He is also co-chair of the Healthy Sail Panel of Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings and Royal Caribbean.
