Are you able to get a very good exercise with digital actuality?

0

Virtual reality headsets have come a long way since I first saw a VR “arcade” pop up in a mall in the 1990s. (I never played, though I was curious; $ 5 a game was like spending a week’s pocket money.) Now you can put on a headset and walk around your living room, with options ranging from dance games to fitness apps I want to learn: How well can you train in virtual reality?

What can a VR headset actually do?

I’m trying out the Oculus Quest 2, a device that plays games on its own without being connected to a computer. You wear the goggle-like headset and grab two controllers, and the games require you to move your hands to do things.

In most VR fitness apps, you don’t have to press any buttons on the controllers, you just move your hands. Since the game also knows where your headset is in space, it can ask you to crouch or lean to the side. The games don’t differ too much in the types of actions they are prompted to take, but they differ widely in the type of environment you are immersed in while performing them.

How to set up your VR workout space

While a virtual world can be as big as the game’s developer wants it to be, your living room is still only as big as your living room. The games have to keep you moving while preventing you from actually running into a wall or slamming your hands on your bookshelves, so there is a system in place that sets virtual boundaries.

At Oculus, the boundary is called your guardian. (Another popular VR headset, Vive, calls it Chaperone.) When it was time to set up the Guardian, the virtual world disappeared and I saw my real surroundings in grainy black and white. My couch, walls, and everything else were visible for this step, and the device told me to use my hand controllers to draw a line on the floor to define my safe space. (The movement is similar to spraying a jet of water with a garden hose.)

The minimum recommended size for room-scale games that allow you to move around is two meters by two meters, or 6.5 by 6.5 feet.

I was hoping to maybe use my driveway as leeway, but the Oculus comes with warnings not to use it outdoors. There are several reasons for this. First, you are completely blind to your surroundings while playing, so you may not notice people, cars, squirrels, etc. entering your room. Second, the headset uses small cameras to find out where it is (and where your hands are), and it may not work in the dark or in extremely bright light. And third, if sunlight gets on the lenses, you’re fucked. Even a few minutes of sunlight – let’s say you take your headset off and leave it screen-side up on a sunny day – can destroy the device.

So I set up my Guardian and started exploring the virtual world. When you start the headset you are in a virtual home environment with menus that appear as a giant virtual screen in front of you. The border I drew was invisible, but if I ever got too close to it I saw it appear for a moment, a transparent wall marked with grid lines.

If you go through the guardian wall, the game world disappears completely and you can see your actual surroundings again in this black and white view. I found this handy for placing a water bottle and sweat towel just outside of my exercise area. I just had to stick my head through the perimeter and I was able to have a drink without taking off my headset. Another fun feature: you can add your real couch in your virtual environment.

What do VR fitness games look like?

The simplest, and I find the best, throw a torrent of objects at you, and your job is to smash them to the beat of the music. Other styles of play include dances where you copy your partner or teacher and boxing games where you immerse yourself in real fights. (I found a boxing game so exciting, despite the cheesy graphics, that I went to the bench in the game locker room and expected to find my water bottle there.)

There are also games that allow you to practice real sports in a virtual world, including simulators for golf and table tennis. Another fascinating format is simply creating an ever-moving virtual world around you as you pedal a real exercise bike.

Dealing with sweat and practical issues

Active VR games bridge a strange gap between video games (played on a couch while nibbling Cheetos) and workouts (done in sweat-wicking clothing). The difference takes getting used to. For example, I had to figure out the best way to arrange my hair. I usually grab a bun or ponytail when I work out, but the straps on the machine get in the way. A low braid was the best option I found.

Another thing I found while browsing virtual reality forums is that people who really use VR for training have tricked their headsets with aftermarket straps and accessories. One of these that I actually bought was a silicone case for the part of the device that touches your face. (Mine was a cheaper one, but I was told that VR coverage is the Cadillac of such attachments.) This prevents sweat from seeping into the foam, resulting in a much less harsh handover if your son borrows the headset to play Beat Saber and returns it all wet and smelly.

I’ve played through a number of games with the appropriate gear and I’ll take you on a full tour of my favorites next week. If you’ve done VR fitness workouts, let us know in the comments how you liked them and if there are any games I shouldn’t miss.

Kanye West sings about “Shedding My Household” in a passionate new tune

Kanye West‘s new music tells fans something about his marriage with Kim Kardashian.

The 44-year-old Can’t Tell Me Nothing rapper’s latest album, DONDA, was first shared with fans during a high-profile listening party that was broadcast live from the Mercedes Benz Stadium in Atlanta on July 22nd. The album was due to be released at midnight on Friday, July 23rd, but hit the airwaves hours later.

At the event, Kanye debuted a song alluding to his estranged wife, Kim, who filed for divorce in February after six years of marriage. The couple share children northwest, 8th, Santa west, 5, Chicago West, 3, and Psalm West, 2.

His emotional track, which appeared to be untitled at the time of the event, apparently broached their relationship with the repeated chorus: “I’m losing my family”. Elsewhere, Kanye sang the lyrics: “She yells at me / ‘Honey, why could you go?'”

At one point, Ye fell to her knees as the track played.

Easy methods to screw into plaster partitions with out crumbling them

Gypsum was the building standard until the 1940s, if drywall burst onto the market. Before that, it was a popular choice for wall construction due to its flexibility, fitting around corners and in small spaces where materials like brick were not suitable. However, its malleability has a disadvantage, as plaster of paris can’t hold a lot of weight – things like your flat screen TV and floating shelves – because the material tends to crumble under pressure. But there are ways to hang objects on plaster of paris without crumbling the walls.

How to hang your things on plaster walls

If you only hang pictures or other items that weigh 30 pounds or less, Plaster hook do as they are angled to evenly distribute the weight of the items. These special hooks don’t need anything other than a tape measure and hammer; However, AS hanging display systems warns against the use of plaster of paris nails, which are prone to cracking.

If you are hanging something like a TV mount, make sure to find the stud in your wall first. Buy cheap Bolt finder is the easiest way to get it right. Then you will need 2 inch screws, plastic plugs, a drill bit, and your drill bits. Using painter’s tape to mark and drill can help prevent crumbling and tearing as you screw into the walls. This video from eHow at Home provides a great example.

How to drill into plasterboard walls

To avoid cracking and crumbling, you need to pre-drill holes for your screws, and you can start by taping a strip of blue tape before drilling holes in the wall – it helps make neat holes without crumbling as much. Make sure your drill bit is the same size as your plastic dowel, or just slightly larger for a snug fit with the screw, then drill directly into the blue tape. Push or hammer the anchor into this hole, and then you can screw directly into your anchor.

How is India doing now after the unfold of the Delta variant

The Delta variant was first discovered in India last October and resulted in a massive second wave of Covid-19 cases in the country.

Since then, the highly contagious strain has spread around the world.

The variant has usurped the previously dominant alpha variant, which was first discovered in Great Britain last fall, and triggered further waves of infections in Europe and a threatening increase in cases in the USA

In fact, the Delta variant now accounts for 83% of all sequenced cases in the U.S., said the director of the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Dr. Rochelle Walensky, on Tuesday, marked a dramatic 50% increase in the week of July 3rd.

The World Health Organization has already warned that due to the estimated transmission benefit of the Delta variant, “it is expected to quickly overtake other variants and become the dominant circulating line” in the coming months.

In its latest weekly report on Wednesday, the WHO found that the prevalence of Delta among the specimens sequenced in the past four weeks in many countries worldwide including Australia, Bangladesh, Botswana, China, Denmark, India, Indonesia, Israel, Portugal, Russia , Singapore, South Africa and the UK

But what about India, where the Delta variant first appeared in October?

The situation is still bad, data shows, but not as bad as it was when the second wave peaked in the country, when there were more than 400,000 new cases daily. On May 7, India reported a staggering 414,188 new infections and several thousand deaths.

Fortunately, cases have decreased significantly since then. India reported 41,383 new coronavirus infections and 507 new deaths on Thursday, the Indian Ministry of Health tweeted.

The seven-day average of 38,548 new cases every day is a 3% decrease from the previous average, according to data from Johns Hopkins University and Our World in Data.

Meanwhile, the percentage change in the number of newly confirmed cases in the past seven days (compared to the number in the previous seven days) is sharp in parts of Europe and the United States.

In France, the percentage change in the number of new cases over the past seven days is 223% in France, 112% in Italy, while the percentage change in Germany is 50%. In the US, the percentage change over the past seven days is 58% higher than the previous seven-day period.

Nevertheless, according to data from Johns Hopkins University, India has the second highest number of registered Covid cases worldwide with over 31.2 million cases and almost 419,000 deaths, after the US.

During the first wave of the pandemic, India went into a nationwide lockdown in March 2020, which was only lifted in June last year with a series of easings over the following summer months.

However, when the second (and much tougher) wave hit in early 2021, Prime Minister Narendra Modi defied pressure to re-impose a national lockdown and left the responsibility to individual states as to whether they should reintroduce restrictions instead. A member of Modi’s economic advisory council defended the Modi government when it came under pressure in May, telling CNBC that state governments should have the final say on social restrictions.

Additionally, in order to tackle its Covid crisis, India has stopped exporting Covid vaccines (it makes a domestic version of AstraZeneca University Oxford called “Covishield”) and is not expected to resume exports until the end of the year the year.

Public health experts told the FT in late May that regional lockdowns, decreased social interaction and increasing levels of antibodies to Covid in the general population are helping to lower the infection rate in India. Vaccinations have also helped continue the downward trend in cases.

Exposure to Covid during the second wave was illustrated in the latest data showing the prevalence of antibodies to Covid in the general population.

A national blood serum poll that performed antibody tests (known as the Sero Poll) was released Tuesday and showed that two-thirds of the Indian population have antibodies to Covid, Reuters reported, although about 400 million of India’s 1.36 billion People did not have antibodies, the survey found.

Monitoring one of the largest vaccination campaigns in the world (India needs to vaccinate around a billion adults) is no easy task and the overall vaccination rate remains sluggish compared to other countries around the world.

Our World in Data figures show that 87.5 million people (around 6.3% of the total population, including children) are fully vaccinated, while 330.2 million people have received at least one dose of people who are fully vaccinated.

Inside together

On Tuesday, Modi expressed concern about a “significant” number of health care workers and frontline workers who have still not been vaccinated despite the vaccination program launched more than six months ago.

In a press release released by the government in which senior officials briefed on the Covid situation in India, Modi also spoke of the need to “remain vigilant about the situation in different countries,” noting that “mutations make this disease very unpredictable. and so we must all stand together and fight this disease. “

Chandrakant Lahariya, a New Delhi-based doctor who is also an expert on vaccines, public order and health systems, told CNBC that India is not out of the woods yet.

“The results of the fourth national sero survey … confirm what many had suspected: 67.6% of the total population and 62% of those who have not been vaccinated have developed antibodies (against Covid). Almost all age groups over 6 years have antibodies. This shows the extent of the virus spread in the second wave, “he noted.

“We know that [the] The vaccination rate is lower than expected and the Covid-compatible behavior is not optimal. With 400 million of the population still vulnerable, it would be like inviting the next wave ahead of time to abandon our vigilance. India needs to be fully prepared for each subsequent wave. What is happening in Indonesia, Vietnam or Great Britain is an alarm bell that no country can lose its vigilance and [that they] have to do everything in their arsenal, “he added.

The emergence of several significant varieties of concerns around the world (such as alpha, beta and delta), which then become widespread, “reaffirms how connected we are in this pandemic,” Lahariya continued.

“This is a reminder that we must view the challenges of a pandemic as one global community. It reminds us that we need all interventions and vaccine availability as our shared responsibility safe ‘must be repeated until it is understood at all levels, “he said.

Lahariya believed that more variants would emerge as the pandemic progressed. “We should be prepared for further variants until the pandemic is declared over.” Nobody knows where these variants will appear next.

Covid instances are on the rise once more in all 50 states of the USA, because the delta variant is tightening its grip

Covid cases are on the rise in all 50 states and the District of Columbia as the Delta variant spreads rapidly in the US and the virus once again tightens its grip.

The U.S. reports an average of about 43,700 new cases per day over the past week – well below pandemic highs but up 65% in the past seven days and nearly three times what it was two weeks ago, data compiled by Johns Hopkins University were indicates. Cases hit a 15-month low in late June before starting to rise again as fewer people were vaccinated and the more contagious Delta variant caught on in the country.

Vaccination rates peaked in April, at more than 3 million vaccinations per day, but have declined significantly in recent months to around 530,000 per day, according to data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Louisiana, Arkansas, Missouri, Florida and Nevada reported the highest daily average of new cases per capita for the past week, all of which are at least twice the US rate.

Each of these states also have vaccination rates below statewide levels, with the largest gap visible in Louisiana, where 47.7% of the eligible population over 12 have received a vaccination, compared with 65.9% for the country as a whole.

Covid patient admissions to hospital have increased 32% compared to a week ago, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The number of daily Covid deaths, which typically lag a few weeks or more behind a surge in case numbers, has increased, but not at the same pace as cases or hospitalizations. Many Americans who are most susceptible to the virus now also have some level of protection, with 89% of seniors having at least one vaccination.

“The death toll has not increased because we have done an incredible job to fully vaccinate the populations most likely to die from Covid-19, especially those over 65 and nursing home residents,” said Dr. Peter Chin-Hong, an infectious disease specialist at the University of California at San Francisco, said in an interview. “The deaths are also lagging behind the infection rate in some cases, but I also assume that the death rate will not change.”

The overwhelming majority of severe Covid cases – 97% of hospital admissions and 99.5% of Covid deaths – occur among those who are not vaccinated, U.S. surgeon general Vivek Murthy told reporters at a White House briefing Thursday .

President Joe Biden and CDC Director Dr. Rochelle Walensky have both described the current state of the outbreak as “a pandemic of the unvaccinated”.

US officials are urging Americans to get vaccinated against the Delta variant, which Walensky says is one of the most contagious respiratory diseases scientists have ever seen. With 68.6% of the adult population at least partially vaccinated, the US still hasn’t met Biden’s July fourth goal of 70% of Americans 18 years of age and older to receive one or more vaccinations.

The variant is highly contagious, mainly because people infected with the Delta strain can carry up to 1,000 times more virus in their nasal passages than those infected with the original strain, according to new data.

“The Delta variant is more aggressive and much more transmissible than previously circulating strains,” Walensky told reporters at a briefing Thursday. “It’s one of the most contagious respiratory viruses we know and that I’ve seen in my 20-year career.”

Local officials across the country are now asking Americans to return to wearing masks indoors. Several California and Nevada counties are now advising all residents to wear masks in public indoor spaces, regardless of whether they are vaccinated or not. Local leaders in at least three other states have reintroduced mask mandates, issued face-covering recommendations, or threatened the return of strict public health limits for all residents – despite CDC guidelines that vaccinated individuals do not use these protocols in most settings must follow.

“The easiest and best and most effective way to prevent a new variant from emerging and destroy the existing Delta variant is to get everyone vaccinated,” said Dr. White House Chief Medical Officer Anthony Fauci in an interview with CNBC on Wednesday.

The “Watch Next” section is the first thing you see when you open your favorite streaming service, and it often has a helpful list of series you want to keep streaming … but it can also be filled with shows, that you gave up or shows you have completed but still appear because you did not complete enough credits.

It can be quite annoying. Fortunately, you can fix your “Next Watch” section for every major streaming service out there.

How to edit your viewing history on Netflix

To delete a show or movie from your “Continue Watching” section on Netflix, you must also remove it from your viewing history. This can only be done through the account settings on the Netflix website.

  1. Open that Netflix website in your browser (desktop or mobile) and log in to your account.
  2. Press the profile Icon in the upper right corner and select the “account” Opportunity.
  3. In the “My Profile” section, select your profile (if your account has multiple profiles) and click on “View activities” Opportunity.

John Legend makes a shock look on the opening ceremony of the Olympic Video games

0

Imagine our surprise when John Legend and Keith urban appeared unexpectedly on our screens during the 2020 Tokyo Olympics opening ceremony.

This is exactly what happened on Friday, July 23rd, when both singers at a video performance by. occurred surprisingly John Lennon‘s “Imagine” together with the Spanish performer Alejandro Sanz, Beninese singer-songwriter Angelique Kidjo and the Suginami Children’s Choir.

“What a lovely group of artists came together to celebrate the idea that we are connected as humans,” Legend said in a behind-the-scenes video. “And this is the perfect song for us to sing together.”

The virtual performance was one of The Voice’s first major appearances since his wife Chrissy Teigen faced controversy for her resurfaced tweets targeting a then-teenage boy Courtney Stodden, as well as allegations of cyber bullying against designers Michael Costello. While Teigen and Legend denied Costello’s claims, Teigen penned an open letter apologizing for her earlier remarks about Stodden.

That is the most secure and best solution to take away an avocado seed

0

There are several approaches to removing the round, slippery core from the creamy flesh of an avocado. You can squeeze anything – the pit and everything – into one bowl, but that only works if you need avocado puree. However, if you want pretty wedges or slices for an aesthetic toast, you need to get the thing out without crushing the fruit. You can always hit it with a sharp knife, but the maneuver is not without risk – avocado-related hand injuries from swinging blades are so common that they have their own name (“avocado hand”).

But – and I can’t believe I’m saying this – thanks to TikTok, Joel and I now have a better and safer way of removing the pit from the avocado without hurting our delicate computer hands. (We need them! They are our money makers!)

You should watch the video to get the full visual effect, but it’s a simple move: take the half of the avocado that still has the core in it, place your index and middle fingers on either side of the core, and your thumb the back of the fruit. Gently press your thumb into the back of the avocado, but not through, and marvel at the ease with which the pit pops out. Caution: Be sure to use the tip of your thumb, not the tip. I pushed out my first pit with the tip of my thumb (which has a pretty sharp nail) and then I had a thumb-shaped hole in my avocado. (I ate it anyway.)

Once the pit is removed from your avocado, you can fill in the dent it made with things and stuff. I personally like it Fill my avocado bulbs with soy sauce or sherry vinegar and small pieces of leek, such as thinly sliced shallots or spring onions. (If avocado toast is more your thing, give this a try ‘nduja.)

TikTok power saving hacks that will not work and will not prevent cash

0

Renewable energies have over 40.7 million hits on the TikTok social networking site and most of the ideas are interesting and seem to have the potential to save money.

For this reason, however, an expert decided to investigate them.

Along with Comparethemarket.com, a professor of power engineering and sustainability exposed some of the hacks that don’t work and definitely won’t save you money.

The hacks range from solar windows to magnetic fields and seem to promise environmentally friendly ways to generate electricity in homes.

However, the expert, John Nimmo of Sheffield University, discovered one who used a fidget spinner and had some merit, but had to wonder if the benefits outweighed the time and effort involved.

TikTok trends that work and don’t work

TikTok energy hacks

A list of hacks that went viral on TikTok and the verdict on whether they generate free energy.

Solar window

The first hack claims to get renewable energy from a solar window and had 1.1 million views on the app.

The verdict, however: it would not generate any electricity.

An inventor named Carvey Maigue developed a solar window that generates renewable energy.

The window consists of particles of fruits and vegetables suspended in a resin substrate.

Nimmo believes it wouldn’t generate electricity, although he believes that if the right materials were used it could give off a faint fluorescent glow and only act as a decorative film.

Magnetic fields

The hack had well over 400,000 views and claims to generate electricity using magnetic fields.

The Verdict: You’re going to need a bigger magnet, to say the least.

A “magic” light bulb is lit with a combination of magnets and nails.

Magnetic generators can both generate magnetic forces and deliver electricity, just as electric generators can generate electricity through hydrostatic forces, wind, and other forms of energy.

This hack seems to produce enough power to power a lightbulb, but Nimmo believes it’s not likely unless other circuit elements such as a coil are also connected.

A magnet alone cannot work.

Solar Battery Charger

The hack involves a solar panel charger that works with a cellphone and gets over 44,000 views.

The bottom line: theoretically possible, but not an easy-to-recreate DIY project.

Even though the hack doesn’t specify how many amps the solar charger can deliver, Nimmo suggests that it is (in theory) possible, but the time it takes to charge a device will vary based on its power.

Also, the cost of the project and the materials used are not mentioned in the video and this should be taken into account to determine how sustainable this really is.

Fidget spinner

A video of a fidget spinner being used to charge an iPhone garnered 7,509 views on the app.

The verdict: worth a try!

The fidget spinner and charging plate are used to charge your phone.

Nimmo points out that it is unsure how an induction charger might work with a metal spinner. However, it may be plausible depending on whether metal and coils respond.

Since most of these items are easy to find, it may be worthwhile to safely try this at home.

WTF continues federal help for pupil loans?

Image for the article titled WTF Proceeds With Federal Aid For Student Loans?

Photo: ShutterstockProfessional (Shutterstock)

Since the deferral period for federal student loans expires in October, most borrowers have to start repaying their student loans for the first time since March 2020 – provided this deadline is met. But will the moratorium be extended again? Here’s a look at the latest information on student loan relief.

Will the student loan indulgence be extended beyond October?

The chances of an extension of the forbearance have improved lately, although there is no guarantee that it will. As reported by Politico, U.S. Department of Education officials recommend that the White House extend the moratorium through January 2022, although that stance has not yet been publicly announced.

And last week the Democratic Sens. Elizabeth Warren and Edward J. Markey sent one Letter to President Biden urge an extension of the moratorium until at least March 31, 2022. The letter points to ongoing problems with the servicers – as the servicers say they are still understaffed – along with the ongoing financial plight for borrowers, citing a June poll 90% of respondents said they would not be ready to resume loan payments in October.

There is also the recently announced withdrawal of service providers Granite State and FedLoan from the state student loan program on January 1, 2022, which will affect around 10 million borrowers. As Forbes points out, was the management of transfers by contractors of the Ministry of Education in the past chaotic, with widespread problems such as lost records and missing payments. By postponing the moratorium to the end of the year, the service employees would have more time to prepare.

What about student loan issuance?

Biden is waiting for a memo from the Ministry of Education on the legitimacy of the President to cancel student loan debts through executive action. While progressive Democrats have said Biden could “swipe” up to $ 50,000 in student debt, the legality of such a move is is that not clear.

Plus, debt relief is a much more controversial issue that probably won’t pass Congress without removing the filibuster. Criticism of lump-sum debts Relief says it’s unfair to people who don’t go to college, that it doesn’t address rising tuition costs, and that any forgiveness should be more focused on those on lower incomes.

In the meantime, President Biden has $ 3 billion in student loan canceled by topping up existing credit relief programs through executive action. The Ministry of Education is seek further reforms That should make it easier for distressed borrowers to qualify for student debt relief, but it will likely take up to a year to complete.

Bottom line

While extension seems more likely than debt relief, borrowers should prepare for regular payments starting October – just to be sure. If you can’t make these payments, you should file a claim Income-based repayment plan.
