Michael B. Jordan addresses concerns raised by Nicki Minaj and other social media users by the name of their rum brand.
On Tuesday June 22nd, the Black Panther actor apologized on his Instagram story for calling his new rum brand J’Ouvert after the name was accused of appropriating Caribbean culture.
“I just want to say on behalf of myself and my partners, our intent was never to offend or hurt a culture (that we love and respect) in the hope of celebrating and shedding a positive light,” wrote Michael. “In the last few days, a lot has been listened to. The 34-year-old Creed star went on to say the brand would be renamed in the face of the outcry.
“We hear you,” he continued. “I hear you and I want to make it clear that we are in the process of renaming ourselves. We sincerely apologize and look forward to introducing a brand we can all be proud of.”
