COVID-19 vaccines are becoming easier to find. For a few weeks now, all adults in the US have been eligible to schedule vaccine appointments, regardless of which state you live in. Now several pharmacy chains are offering walk-ins and same-day appointments at most locations.

President Biden announced this week that he orders pharmacies that receive their vaccines from the federal government to offer walk-in appointments. Thousands of pharmacies take part in this program, including many large chains. You can find a list of them here;; These include CVS, Walgreens, Walmart, Albertsons (including Safeway), Rite Aid, Kroger, Costco, HEB, Publix, Topco, and more.

Not every place offers walk-ins every day. However, if you check the availability of your local pharmacy, you may find that walk-ins are available. Some pharmacies also offer appointments on the same day or even within the same hour that you book your appointment, so people are increasingly able to get the vaccine on short notice.

Some of the chains have made their own announcements:

  • CVS offers walk-ins in “select locations,” reported 8,300 out of 9,900 locations.
  • Walgreens now offers appointments on the same day in all pharmacies and walk-ins at selected locations.
  • All Walmart and Sam’s Club Locations now offer walk-ins. (Sam’s Club membership is not required to receive a vaccine.) Appointments are also possible.

To find a walk-in room near you, check the information for each pharmacy. The federal program also includes some independent pharmacies and small chains. State clinics often also offer walk-ins. So check availability in your area. Getting a vaccine may be easier than you expected.
