Don’t say it, Calibri. I’ve always preferred Microsoft’s standard Word font – at least much more so than Times New Roman, which Microsoft replaced with Calibri in Office 2007. And while Microsoft is finally there I’m looking to shake things up again With a new standard font, you don’t have to follow the whims of Redmond. You can set any font as the default for Word. (Calibri forever.)
First, open Word and create a new document. In the lower-right corner of the Fonts section on your ribbon, click the tiny arrow – the “Font Dialog Launcher”, as Word calls it. You can see it here:

This window should then appear:

Now is the time to choose the font that you want Microsoft Word to use by default when you open a new document. As much as you may be trying to pick something crazy like Wingdings, it gets very old, very quickly. (Bookmark this idea for later as it is great for playing prank on unsuspecting friends or coworkers.)
When you’ve made your selections by clicking the name of the font you selected, make sure you click the “Set as Default” button in the lower left corner. You will then be asked whether you want to set your selection as the default for your current document (no) or “based on the Normal.dotm template” (yes) for each document.
If you are on a work computer and this selection is not met, your company may prohibit you from editing this template. As Microsoft RemarksYou can check if this is the case by doing a quick Windows 10 search for “Normal.dotm” from your Start menu. Right click the result and open the file location. Then right click on the file and select properties. Make sure “read-only” is not checked in the file General Tab and uncheck it if it is.
Next, click the Security tab and make sure you (or the group your account is in) have write permissions to the file. If not, you may be stuck unless whoever controls your office PC is ready and able to help you.
Here’s how to help Microsoft choose the next default font
If you want to help Microsoft choose a new default font that anyone can use, let your voice get known on social media after my cute Calibri gets tired. Microsoft has five new fonts that will be placed in a future version of its office suite. As with Highlander, there can only be one standard.
