Andrew Cuomo resigns from his position of power.

On Tuesday, August 10, the governor of New York announced his resignation for sexual harassment. In the past few weeks, many political figures, including President Joe Biden called on the governor to resign.

“I think the best way I can help now, given the circumstances, is to step aside and let the government go back to the government,” Cuomo said at a press conference. “And that’s why I’m going to do this, because I work for you, and doing the right thing is doing the right thing for you.”

Deputy Governor Kathy Hochul will serve the remainder of his term. She also becomes the state’s first female governor.

“It’s a matter of life and death. Government operations and wasted energy on distraction are the last thing the government should do,” Cuomo said in his announcement. “I can’t be the cause. New York hard means New York loving. And I love New York and I love you
