Bookshelves have become the official unofficial backdrop for Zoom presentations. I can’t count the number of meetings I’ve seen the speaker in front of a wall of books, all strategically placed, and it makes sense: good looking bookcases look professional. Elegant even. They show a sense of sophistication that others will notice.

Take the Twitter account Bookshelf credibilityFor example, a great place to learn (and assess) bookcase arrangement. It’s an art, not a science. So it’s time to get neat. Here are some inventive ways to organize your books so that they make a powerful impression.

Organize your books by color

Carrie from the home organization website lemonade likes to pull off the sleeves of books to reveal the natural look and color of the books. After removing the covers, you can sort each book by its specific color. All of your blue books should be together, red books, yellow books, and so on. Carrie explains that she likes to group books by color, but not necessarily in rainbow order, and piling some books on her side to pop the room.

Organizers like Clea Shearer and Joanna Teplin from The home editing likes to stick faithfully to the rainbow order they call it ROYGBIV Method. “Our brain naturally recognizes this pattern and makes sense of where things should be stored,” explains the duo. You can organize the books by size to help the flow.

Display your books in wall boxes

A more elegant way to display your books is with decorative wall boxes. To start, take it different sized boxes and arrange them on your walls however you want. Create a large box with the smaller boxes or a set of stairs along the walls – whichever combination inspires you the most. Put a couple of books in each box – not so many that look stuffed and not too few that look like something is missing. For a display like this, choose titles that you want users to notice, as display panels provide an opportunity to demonstrate your tastes.

Use a hanging book rack to make a statement

A unique way to view books is a Hanging book rack. You will be talking about the zoom with this custom display that has a wooden rail with fancy clothespins hung on the wall and string wrapped in the covers of your books to hang down. (Don’t worry, this hanging method won’t damage your books.) You can find this custom hanging system on Etsy, but it costs to be this unique and cost at least $ 160 as I found out.

Make coffee tables and bedside tables with larger books

An overflow of books can clutter your bookshelves. So, take your rejected books with you while you tidy up your library or home office to create a custom bedside table or coffee table. The spruce recommends using only your hardcover books to ensure you have a stable structure. After you’ve stacked your books backwards up, simply place a wooden or glass board on top. The style is a great way to incorporate the color coding method as well, as you can use lighter books to get brilliant focus or darker books to match darker woods.
