LONDON – England took a step into the unknown on Monday, lifting almost all remaining restrictions on public life at a time when coronavirus infections are high and on the rise.

There are no longer any limits to the indoor meeting. Nightclubs can also reopen, the 1-meter social distancing rule has been lifted, and masks have largely become voluntary, although some airlines and transport companies have announced that they will retain the mask requirement.

In essence, most of the legal restrictions have now been lifted and replaced with an emphasis on ownership as infections continue to rise.

There was no mention of “Freedom Day”, as July 19 had previously been called. Prime Minister Boris Johnson cautioned as the country moved to “Step 4” of its roadmap to lift restrictions.

“Please, please, please be careful. Take the next step tomorrow with the right care and respect for other people and the risks that the disease continues to pose,” Johnson said in a statement on Sunday evening.

The lifting of the restrictions had been postponed from June 21st to allow more vaccinations as the number of cases caused by the spread of the highly contagious Delta variant rose.

Covid infections remain high across the UK with 316,691 reported cases in the past seven days, an increase of around 43% over the previous seven-day period. Hospital admissions are low but insidiously higher, with 4,313 people hospitalized in the past seven days, government data shows. 283 people have died in the past seven days.

The vast majority of infections currently affect younger age groups who are not yet or only partially vaccinated. Recent events such as the 2020 European Football Championship, which saw England fans gathering in pubs and bars across the country, have also been blamed for the rise in cases.

At the same time, the government is pushing ahead with vaccinations. To date, 87.9% of UK adults have received a first dose of a vaccine and 68.3% of UK adults have received both doses. Taking both doses of a vaccine greatly reduces the risk of infection and hospitalization from the coronavirus.

However, experts warn that hospital admissions could increase significantly in the coming weeks, and scientists have criticized plans to relax almost all Covid restrictions, calling it unethical and dangerous for the entire planet.

Others have defended the move, saying that staying incarcerated has many harmful consequences, from the economic and livelihood effects to mental health.

In a statement on Sunday evening, the UK government admitted that cases continued to rise, but noted that the link to hospital admissions and deaths from the vaccination program had been “significantly weakened” as all adults were asked to come forward for both doses of the vaccine.

Watch the world

Deutsche Bank research strategist Jim Reid stated Monday that “the world will be watching the British experiment with great interest. It could show a way back to normal or warn even heavily vaccinated countries that Covid will be a problem for a decent time. “

Before that symbolic day, the new cases in the UK fell below 50,000 after two days over it yesterday. However, the weekly growth rate is still strong, ”added Reid. “If you break down the numbers, the biggest area of growth over that period was men ages 15 to 40. It is the first time in the pandemic that there has been any notable gender segregation. It strongly suggests the impact of the millions of soccer fans watching the European Championship soccer final in various locations across the country. “

Kallum Pickering, senior economist at Berenberg Bank, told CNBC on Monday that the economic impact of the reopening was uncertain as consumer behavior could be affected by the reopening, with some consumers more nervous about the lifting of restrictions like wearing masks .

“I doubt we will see an upturn, but I think we will see continued growth in economic activity … but some of these uncertainties are certainly great,” he told CNBC’s Squawk Box Europe. “We need to look at some of the high-frequency data, mobility statistics, and the like to see what impact the uncertainty of opening and removing masks is actually having, and is that actually keeping people from assuming? On the high street and restaurants and supermarkets.”

Government defends reopening

Johnson, who nearly died of the coronavirus in April 2020 and is self-isolating after contact with Covid-infected Health Minister Sajid Javid, defended the reopening on Monday.

“If we don’t do it now, we have to wonder when are we ever going to do it? This is the right moment,” Johnson said in a video statement.

“But we have to do it carefully. We have to remember that unfortunately this virus is still out there. The cases are increasing, we can see the extreme contagiousness of the Delta variant.”

Johnson said there was “immense comfort and satisfaction” that Covid vaccines “have severely weakened the link between infection and hospitalization, and between infection and serious illness and death.”

The government said it would continue to review all data. It also said it will “strengthen immunization” by shortening the dosing interval for all adults from 12 to eight weeks, continuing to use its testing, tracking and isolation system, and maintaining border controls, including quarantine for all who do From traveling to a country on the red list and for countries on the yellow list, unless people are double vaccinated.

“The data is continuously evaluated and contingency measures are maintained during times of higher risk if necessary, but restrictions are avoided where possible,” the government said.

Why you should not really pay all money for a home in money

Photo: Tada Images (Shutterstock)

All-cash offers for homes are available all the rage lately, but is it as good an idea as most of us think? While making an attractive offer to the seller, consider the ramifications of tying up your money with an asset like home, as you could make more money in the long run by taking out a mortgage and plowing some of that money into a mutual fund.

Why cash isn’t always king when it comes to real estate

At first glance, it seems so simple: if you buy a home with cash outright, you don’t have to go into debt with a mortgage. Finally, you’d avoid spending $ 129,444 in. to pay Interest alone, for a $ 250,000 mortgage that requires 3% interest over 30 years. Who wanna do that?

Well, the problem is the opportunity cost: if you put most of that money in a mutual fund, the return would exceed the additional interest you would pay on the interest, especially since mortgage rates are so low. For the past 30 years, the S&P 500 index has been one average annual growth rate of 10.7% per yearwhile the mortgage rates are much lower. The average 30-year fixed-rate mortgage is currently 2.84%, the average rate of the 15-year fixed-rate mortgage is 2.24%. Investopedia has a great example of how this works:

For example, suppose you bought a $ 300,000 home that has increased in value by $ 100,000 since then and is now worth $ 400,000. If you paid for the house in cash, your return would be 33% (a profit of $ 100,000 versus your $ 300,000). However, if you deposited 20% and borrowed the remaining 80%, your return would be 166% (a profit of $ 100,000 for your down payment of $ 60,000). This oversimplified example ignores mortgage payments, tax deductions, and other factors, but that’s a general principle.

And if you split that money up, you can benefit from two types of investments, rather than just one. That means that in addition to your property, you could have an index fund with an annualized return of 10% whose average annual return can be anywhere from 5% to 15%. In that sense, paying 3% on a mortgage, for example, isn’t that big of a deal. Because of this, wealthy people strategically take out a mortgage for leverage, even though they could always pay off the loan.

Of course, reservations apply. Investing in both real estate and stocks carries some risk, as past performance is no guarantee of future results. And everyone’s financial situation is different. One of the benefits of owning a property with no funding is that you don’t have to deal with monthly mortgage payments that are a strain on your budget. Plus, sometimes you just need a home, and in this sellers’ market, cash is sometimes really king.

Bottom line

Consider consulting a financial advisor before making any major investment, including a cash home purchase. A house is a great asset, but it is not easy to turn it back into cash when you need it, and you can better use some of that money for other investments.

Matt Damon reveals shady causes his daughter will not see his hit film

If you really want to go the extra mile, you can a Bucket in the shower Washing up instead of letting the water run over you. During a drought in San Francisco, I was with friends who used a bucket in the shower to collect water while they waited for the shower to warm up. You can then pour the collected water into the toilet to activate the flushing mechanism instead of constantly flushing the toilet, which in one action saves water in two ways.

Granted, it’s not the most convenient – but giving up some amenities in order to still have drinking water doesn’t sound too bad.

Nicki Minaj is searching for mall safety that lets followers rap ‘complete Lotta cash’

Nicki Minaj surely appreciates the fan love she receives – but she loves it even more when her adoring base can continuously adore her … for which a security guard at the shopping center himself receives a personal greeting from Barbz.

The rapper reposted a video that was originally shared by a TikTok user @ zhachanel2 … in which they take an improvised karaoke sesh – with a new song by NM, “Whole Lotta Money” – straight to a designer fashion store in what appears to be a mall somewhere in NYC.

So imagine a street performer in Times Square breaking into a Zara or something and literally kicking off with a portable speaker. That happened here, and security stepped in to shut it down … well, kind of. The guy half tried, but didn’t seem to care.

Check it out … he tells Zha and her photographer that they can’t “do” this in here – but he’s not really trying to stop it … instead he goes and puts his hands up.

Nicki loved the fact that the guy kept the show on … writing to IG to write part, “It’s the security guard who says” You can’t all do this here “as he walks away from the celebrations Chile Me am TIDE. “And went on to explain that the whole interaction was absolutely hilarious for her.

Nicki Minaj Instagram story

Queen Nicki wasn’t finished there, however … she followed up with another message on her story, and it sounds like she’s trying to pair the guard up because she’s not an idiot and lets Zha do the damn thing.

She says, “Somebody tells the security guard in the video I posted that I’m looking for him.” Nicki adds: “I want to give him a present that he is such a treasure for one of my babies.”

We’re sure the internet will track the guy down to get the message across. But that just shows … a little friendliness goes a long way. And someone is always watching. 👀

Singapore introduces completely different guidelines for vaccinated individuals

SINGAPORE – Singapore rolls out Covid measures on food depending on whether people have vaccines as new cases continue to rise.

Only fully vaccinated people and people who have recovered from Covid-19 will be able to eat in groups of five without Covid tests when the new rules come into effect on July 19, the Ministry of Health said in a press release on Friday.

These food and beverage stores need to set up systems to check their customers’ vaccination status.

Unvaccinated people need to do rapid antigen tests to group together in groups of five over mealtimes. The food in the restaurant is otherwise limited to groups of two people.

Children under the age of 12 who cannot yet be vaccinated can dine with members of the household without a Covid test. These groups are also limited to five.

Singapore considers people fully vaccinated two weeks after receiving their second dose of Pfizer BioNTech or Moderna vaccines.

Authorities previously said those who received syringes developed by China’s Sinovac Biotech will not receive the same perks as those who were vaccinated with Pfizer BioNTech or Moderna vaccines. Sinovac’s vaccine has not been included in Singapore’s national vaccine program and is only available through a dedicated access route in the city-state.

The latest tightening of measures comes when Singapore announced that a cluster related to so-called KTV lounges has grown to 120 cases.

Night clubs, bars and KTV or karaoke TV lounges have been banned in Singapore since last year due to the coronavirus pandemic. These stores are considered to be high risk as the activities on the premises sometimes result in customers interacting with hostesses and drinking alcoholic beverages.

However, some decided to continue operating as food and beverage outlets. Some of them are suspected of breaking the rules by providing hostess services.

The number of new infections in the community last week is 127, up from 23 the week before, the Ministry of Health said in an update on July 15.

Singapore has reported 62,913 cases of Covid-19 as of July 16.

At a virtual press conference Friday, Health Minister Ong Ye Kung told reporters that 73% of the population have received at least one dose of a vaccine and 45% are fully vaccinated.

Because of the vaccination appointments, that number is expected to rise to 50% next week, he added.

He said the country was “on track” to meet its goal of having two-thirds of its population fully vaccinated by August 9, its national day.

Why you should not feed your canine uncooked meat

Photo of two yellow labs eating raw meat from a plate outside.

You may want to reconsider your dog’s raw food diet: According to a study recently published online in the International Journal of Food Microbiology, raw dog food commercially available in Europe contains drug-resistant Enterococcus bacteria. Scientists from the University of Porto and the Instituto Universitário de Ciências da Saúde (IUCS) in Portugal tested 55 types of dry, wet and raw dog food for Enterococcus, which can cause everything from urinary tract infections to endocarditis in humans. They found it in more than half of the samples – including every single raw sample.

Dr. Ana R. Freitas, the lead author of the study, published a research letter in the CDC’s Emerging Infectious Disease journal in which the results of the raw samples are discussed in detail. To put it nicely, they are not “good”:

All samples contained enterococci resistant to erythromycin, streptomycin, chloramphenicol and tetracycline; 93% resistant to ampicillin, ciprofloxacin and quinupristin / dalfopristin; 79% resistant to gentamicin; and 50% resistant to linezolid.

Linezolid is a last resort antibiotic, and half of the strains of bacteria from these raw dog food samples are resistant to it.

Dr. Freitas and her team also found that some of the dog food bacteria are closely related to Enterococcus strains found in pigs, chickens, sewage and even in human hospital patients across Europe – so we know they can infect multiple species. Dr. Freitas closes the letter by saying, “Our data suggest that raw dog food may be a guardian of new antimicrobial resistance traits …

Should You Put Your Dog On A Raw Food Diet?

How badly you should freak out now depends on where you live and what you are feeding your dog. This study only tested brands of dog food available in Portugal (and Europe), but unfortunately the authors did not reveal any names. You just said they tested two brands of raw dog food, one in Europe and one in the UK. If your brand is from one of these places, then consider throwing it away and switching your dog to dry or regular wet food.

But even if your preferred brand is produced elsewhere, this study should give you a break from the whole “raw dog food” thing. The results are pretty terrifying, but given what we already know about raw pet diets, they aren’t surprising either. The CDC does not recommend them mainly because raw meat contains bacteria that can make both pets and humans sick. A 2019 literature review in the Journal of Small Animal Practice weighed the proposed benefits of raw food against the risks and concluded that “the advice of various professional associations against raw feeding seems justified”, especially for those particularly susceptible to bacterial infections. The “increased frequency and number of antimicrobial drug-resistant bacteria in raw food” is even cited as evidence for this conclusion.

The bottom line is that raw foods for pets and humans are far more risky than anything that has been heat treated. Listeria and salmonella are one thing, but drug-resistant Enterococcus are serious, life-threatening things. With antibiotic and antimicrobial resistance already on the rise, you can’t be too careful here.

Photo: Svetlana123 (Shutterstock)

Even if you spend a lot of time, money, and effort making your yard, lawn, and / or other parts of your landscape look good, you may be missing out on some of your garden’s greatest residents: trees. It’s easy to forget trees, especially if they were already on the property when you moved in.

We’re not saying trees need a lot of maintenance – in fact, they’re pretty self-sufficient – but when they’re near your home there are a few things you should be doing to keep them healthy and looking great. Here’s what you should know.

How to care for newly planted trees

Let’s start with trees that you planted. As you’ve probably found out, young trees can be expensive to buy. So not only do you want your baby trees to grow and thrive, but you also want to protect your investment.

This starts when you first plant the tree. As told by Kathy Robinson from Robby’s Nursery in Bakersfield, California 23ABC messages, do this by digging a large hole and filling it with a mixture of native soil and mulch that will help the roots lodge and grab.

Then create a small circle of dirt around the root ball – known as a water well – and fill it with water. “I like to fill it up three to ten centimeters every morning with standing water just above the root ball,” explains Robinson. It should take about a month for the new tree to take root. After that, the water well can go and you can start fertilizing the tree.

How to take care of mature trees

When it comes to watering adult trees, it’s a balancing act. Both too much and too little water can damage trees. So after Foundation for the Day of the Tree, You want the soil around the tree to be moist, but not muddy. So they propose check the bottom of a tree:

You can check the soil moisture by using a garden trowel and dipping it into the soil to a depth of 2 inches, then moving the blade of the trowel back and forth to create a small narrow trench. Then touch the floor with your finger. If it feels damp, they don’t need water.

Pruning trees is another way to keep them healthy. But it’s about more than just cutting off dead branches: when, how and what you prune depends on the season and the specific needs of the tree. The Arbor Day Foundation has several written and video guides on how to circumcise, including this one:

In most cases, minimal maintenance can keep your trees looking healthy for years.
