BEIJING – China reported GDP growth slightly below expectations in the second quarter, while retail sales and industrial production grew faster than forecast in June.

The country’s gross domestic product rose 7.9% year over year in the second quarter, the National Bureau of Statistics said on Thursday. That fell short of the Reuters estimate of 8.1% for the period April to June.

“Overall, China’s economy appears to be recovering and its annual growth target of 6% has been achieved,” said Chaoping Zhu, global market strategist at JPMorgan Asset Management, in a release.

“However, downside and structural risks to domestic demand are of concern,” he said, citing weak growth in long-term credit and uncertainty over market regulation.

Second quarter GDP rose 1.3% from the first quarter, faster than the 0.6% pace between the first quarter of this year and the fourth quarter of 2020. However, the most recent quarterly increase was still slower than the second quarter .6% of the fourth quarter.

In the first quarter, GDP grew by 18.3%, compared to a decline a year ago.

“China’s economy has steadily recovered,” said the statistics bureau. However, the office added that there were still concerns about the global spread of the pandemic and the “unbalanced” recovery domestically.

Retail sales rose 12.1% year over year in June, more than Reuters’ forecast 11%. The fastest growing category was beverages, up 29.1% over the previous year.

Retail sales growth lagged that of the economy as a whole and fell short of analysts’ expectations for the first two months of the second quarter.

Consumption declined year over year in four provincial capitals – Wuhan, Guiyang, Shijiazhuang and Yinchuan – in May, according to an analysis of public data from Pinpoint Asset Management.

Industrial production grew 8.3%, more than the 7.8% Reuters estimate.

In the past three months, the Chinese authorities have also announced support for companies hit by the rise in commodity prices.

The urban unemployment rate remained constant at 5% in June, while unemployment among the younger 16- to 24-year-olds rose to 15.4% – just as it did in June 2020.

A reduction in the minimum reserve ratio (RRR) or the level of banks’ reserves should come into effect on Thursday. The first notice from authorities of such a cut surprised investors last week and signaled concerns about slower growth.

The cut is expected to free about 1 trillion yuan (or $ 154 billion) into the economy.

Meanwhile, China’s customs authorities said earlier this week that June exports rose more than expected 32.2%.

Export growth is likely to slow in the second half of the year, said Bruce Pang, head of macro and strategy research at China Renaissance. He cited factors such as high growth in the second half of last year and weaker growth in commodity prices.

China’s slower pace of economic recovery “is still overshadowed by uncertainties and unbalanced growth as employment, household income, consumption, investment in manufacturing, services and private businesses have not yet returned to pre-pandemic levels,” Pang said.

Stress-free Covid lockdown restrictions may help cut back substance abuse, the physician says

0

The number of deaths from drug overdose in the United States hit a dismal record as the nation battled the Covid-19 pandemic at the same time. In 2020, a total of 93,331 Americans died from drug overdoses, an increase of nearly 30% year over year, according to preliminary data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Dr. Nora Volkow, director of the National Institute on Drug Abuse, told CNBC’s The News with Shepard Smith that she hopes the surge in drug overdoses will not last.

“One of the reasons I’m optimistic … is that one of the factors that contributed to this surge in drug use was isolation and social distancing, and that doesn’t allow you to give Narcan, which reverses overdoses,” said Volkow. “This desperation, which I hope people felt, is slowly being alleviated.”

Volkow added that people will now be able to rebuild social support systems that existed before the Covid pandemic and that health systems can focus again on treating opioid abuse disorders.

The US also had the highest number of deaths from opioid overdoses in 2020, and more than 60% of those deaths were related to fentanyl. Moderator Shepard Smith asked Volkow why fentanyl played such a role in drug overdoses. Volkow stated that it had to do with potency and pricing.

“Fentanyl is a very potent drug, and it’s actually 50 times more potent than heroin, so you need smaller amounts to get the same effects,” said Volkow. “So it is actually a big win for the illicit drug market, and it has been used to actually contaminate other drugs. So when you mix fentanyl with drugs like methamphetamine or cocaine, you make them so much more deadly. “

Hip dips are the most recent physique insecurity (and you’ll’t fill them in)

0

In this article, I’m not going to tell you how to get rid of your hip dips. However, if you are here to get rid of your hip dips, this is essential read. Because hip dips are 100% nonsense as a physical defect.

(If you’ve never heard of hip dips, you’re in luck and are blessed and should really turn the pages. Please get on with your life, you’re doing everything right.)

What are hip dips?

The human hip is surrounded by muscles and padded with fat. The normal shape of these tissues often indent when viewed directly from the front or back. (Another term for hip dips is “violin hip,” if that helps.) So, when you stand up straight and stand in front of a mirror, you may notice that your hips look like a concave shape where you might have hoped to see them a Jessica Rabbit-like convexity.

(Jessica Rabbit is a cartoon, of course, and is not bound by the limits of human anatomy. This is your first hint that hip dips are not a bug.)

When you’ve had enough of it, fat can take on its own shape: maybe rounded, maybe angular hips. The less fat you have, the more you can see the shape of the bones and muscles underneath.

For a visual, this tweet has a perfect example. And as a bonus, it exposes the lie: The photo of a woman “without” hip dips is the same woman who has hip dips in another photo. She just poses differently.

There is no way to “fill” hip dips with exercise

Most of the articles on hip dips will acknowledge that they are normal and common, and then they’ll say something like, “You can’t get rid of your hip dips, but here are some exercises to help minimize them.” This is 100% bullshit.

You see, while exercise can make a muscle bigger, it can’t build muscle where there are no muscles. The whole reason hip dips exist is because there is no muscle in that location. Let’s look at an anatomy diagram:

Diagrams of the pelvis (left) and the hip and thigh muscles (right) Image: Hank Grebe (Shutterstock)

On the left side, you can see where the top of your thigh bone has a pointed piece called the trochanter that protrudes into the side of your hip. (The iliac crest, which can also be imagined as the hip bone, is a good 15 to 20 centimeters above it.) The alleged “hip dip” occurs roughly in the area of the trochanter. Stand up, press your buttocks together, and poke around a little. You will see what i mean.

Now look at the muscles shown on the right. You have your gluteus maximus behind your trochanter, the gluteus medius above it, the tensor fascia lata above and in front of it, and your quads below.

Which of these muscles can you exercise to minimize your hip dips? That’s right, none of them.

What actually happens when you do glute exercises?

If anyone in this world knows how to change the shape of their butts through exercise, it’s bodybuilders. And it should tell you something that bodybuilders are not obsessed with minimizing their hip dips. Here’s a little unscientific rundown of how many mentions of hip dips Google can find in some subreddits:

  • Women’s fashion advice: 91 results.
  • xxfitness: 494 results.
  • Femalebodybuilding: 3 results, and they all come from a post by a person who does not appear to be a bodybuilder.

If you’ve ever seen photos of bodybuilders butts you’ll understand why. These people compete between building muscle and losing fat. You can see where your butt muscles are. Look at the third photo from Dayana Cadeau in this Instagram post. She’s got all of her hip and buttock muscles built up, and she still has a dramatic indentation on the side of her hip in certain poses because what could be there?

What about people who don’t have hip dips?

Okay, now that you’ve questioned all of your previous assumptions about hip build-up, you’re probably thinking of a person you’ve seen, maybe a particular photo that you could swear on that person didn’t have a hip dive . I would bet you are looking at one of the following:

To pose

This is the easiest way to “get rid of” your hip dips in a photo. Simply push your hips out and to the side, relax your muscles a little, and bend your hip joint slightly to bring your torso a little closer to your thighs.

The most dramatic way to do this is to point one hip toward the camera. The other hip doesn’t pop out in the same way, but that’s fine because it’s angled out of sight. Danae Mercer demonstrates here:

Facetune / Photoshop

Never underestimate what you can do with a photo after you take it. Editing a photo is a proven way to make a human body look like the human body doesn’t actually look like.

surgery

I hate to say it, but there is a way to literally fill in your hip dips and that is surgery. To quote Plastic surgery website:

To repair violin hips, you need to have what is known as fat transfer surgery. This surgery actually involves two procedures: liposuction and fat graft or fat injection. Liposuction takes the fat from another area of your body – usually your stomach or flanks (“love handles”) – and the fat graft procedure places the fat where it looks more attractive.

When fat is grafted onto the hip and buttock areas, most surgeons refer to the procedure as a Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL) or a Mini Brazilian Butt Lift (Mini-BBL).

I don’t like pointing at people and saying “this person had an operation on their buttocks” any more than I like pointing at people and saying “this person is on steroids” because it is gross and unnecessary to shut down other people’s bodies Judge, and because if you don’t know the person’s medical history (which is none of your business), you are likely to get some of your guesses wrong anyway.

Are there people with round hips who have not yet had an operation? I will not rule it out! People come in all shapes and sizes! But it is completely unrealistic to believe that something is wrong with you just because you saw or thought you saw a person with an anatomy different from yours.

Britney Spears says courtroom father Jamie Spears “ruined” her life

Britney Spears continues to ask a judge to remove her father as her conservator.

During a trial on Wednesday July 14th where E! News was present, the singer burst into tears when she testified that she was “extremely afraid” of it Jamie Spears.

“I’m here to get rid of my father and charge him with conservatory abuse,” she told the court. “I want him to be examined … This conservatory allowed my father to ruin my life.”

The Grammy winner also testified about a time Jamie allegedly had her license revoked for eight months because of a speed warning that was not a real ticket. “I want my father removed,” Britney told the court when she called up. “My father is ruining my life.”

The best way to mulch your garden with out digging up your grass

Image for the article titled How to Mulch Your Lawn Without Turning Your GrassPhoto: Sam Barrett (Shutterstock)

When moving your yard, you usually have to tear up the grass, work the soil, and fertilize to prepare for the new vegetation, but why not just cover it? Leaf mulches uses a simple form of composting to reuse your lawn by revitalizing the soil and building nutrients for new plants. Use cardboard, green compost, and mulch, you can transform your lawn into a new ecosystem that conserves water and naturally nourishes plants. This allows you to mulch your garden without any in-depth landscaping.

What you need to mulch a yard

Leaf mulching works like any other type of Composting– It uses the natural decomposition process to nourish new growth. When a tree falls or leaves pile up, break down and release nutrients into the ground so that new life can flourish. Mulching panels uses the composting process by covering existing grass with other organic materials that will decompose over time, creating a nutrient-rich soil. TikToker Brandon Gentry uses store-bought compost:

To successfully make leaf mulch you will need:

  • Cardboard boxes or rolls made from recycled cardboard or newsprint
  • Green compost (wood chips, leaves, cuttings, hay)
  • A hose (or a source of water)
  • Organic mulch

Depending on the square footage of the area you want to reconstruct, you may need a large amount of cardboard, compost, and mulch. Most of the mulch is sold in cubic meters, so you need to measure the area to determine how much you need. Country Life provides a handy formula to help you buy the right amount for your lawn: Square Meters x Desired Depth / 324 = Cubic Meters Needed.

How to mulch your lawn

Before you start, test your floor to find out its mineral composition. The results will reveal any pre-existing problems or effects from previous soil treatments and help you make informed decisions about your lawn’s needs.

The Leaf mulching method begins by preparing the area by removing any dead bushes or plants so that you have even soil to lay your cardboard or newspaper. Almost anything you remove can be used in the green compost layer. Use your hose or sprinkler to moisten the grass completely, then place your cardboard or newspaper over the area you want, making sure to remove tape, stickers, or other inorganic materials from the boards. The box should be around. overlap at least six inchesso that weeds and grass do not pierce. Take your hose again and wet the carton thoroughly. After the cardboard is soaked, spread your layer of organic green compost to completely cover the cardboard – you want the compost layer to be at least 2 inches thick.

At this point you can Plant baby plants in the compost layer. As the plants grow, the roots poke through the cardboard, and as the layer underneath decomposes it provides restorative nutrients for plant growth. Next, put the desired mulch on top of the compost. This part adds a layer of additional moisture storage for the subsequent composting process and reduces the amount of water your plants need.

Don’t park them indoors or cost them unattended

Vermont State Police released this photo of the 2019 Chevrolet Bolt EV that caught fire in the driveway of State Representative Timothy Briglin, a Democrat, on July 1, 2021.

Vermont State Police

General Motors is instructing 2017-2019 Bolt electric vehicle owners who were part of a recent recall not to park their vehicles indoors or to charge them overnight unattended after two of the vehicles caught fire.

The two Bolt electric vehicles were repaired as part of a recall of nearly 69,000 of the vehicles marked for fire hazard. The recall was originally announced in November by GM and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

One of the fires occurred while the vehicle was being charged at a Vermont state legislature’s home earlier this month. The other fire occurred in New Jersey, a GM spokesman said, adding it was briefed earlier this week.

“General Motors was notified of two recent Chevrolet Bolt EV vehicle fires that were resolved as part of the safety recall announced in November 2020,” the company said in a statement it emailed. “Out of the utmost caution, we ask owners of 2017-2019 Chevrolet Bolt EVs who were part of the recall population to park their vehicles outdoors immediately after charging and not to charge their vehicles overnight while we are investigating these incidents.”

The NHTSA said Wednesday that battery cell packs in the affected vehicles have the potential to smoke and ignite internally, which could spread to the rest of the vehicle and cause a structural fire if the vehicle is in a garage or near a house is parked.

According to the automaker, customers who have not yet completed the repair should still go to their dealer for the recall while the investigation continues.

“Safety is a top priority at GM and we are acting as soon as possible to investigate this issue,” said GM.

The NHTSA opened an investigation into three reported fires involving Chevrolet Bolt EVs in October. The automaker is cooperating with the federal vehicle safety agency, said a GM spokesman.

Another Bolt electric vehicle that caught fire was reported by media reports in May, but not all recall repairs had been done on that vehicle.

GM said it bought back some of the recalled vehicles but declined to say how many. Automakers often buy back recalled vehicles to appease dissatisfied customers and to avoid triggering state lemon laws and litigation.

Here is methods to lastly restore your driving Nintendo Pleasure-Con your self

After years of annoying Joy-Con drift problems plaguing Nintendo Switch consoles, there could finally be a permanent solution.

What is Joy-Con Drift?

For those of you who don’t know what “Joy-Con drift” is, consider yourself lucky – it’s a common problem that most Nintendo Switch owners encounter at some point. After sufficient use, the tension in the Joy-Con’s thumb stick mechanism is released and the thumb stick wobbles slightly, leading to inadvertent input recognition – in other words, your cursor, character, or menus move around the screen even when you use it are not touching the controller.

It’s a huge problem that affects the gameplay and ease of use of the Nintendo Switch in general. In all fairness, beyond the hassle, it has become a major flaw that hinders the otherwise excellent handheld home console hybrid.

Nintendo and users alike have been trying to find a way to overcome the drift. Bug fixes range from inconvenient (like sending your Joy-Cons in to Nintendo for repair or buying a replacement pair) to potentially harmful (like using rubbing alcohol to clean the thumb stick sensor or opening the Joy-Con and replacing it of the thumb) glue it yourself). But while almost all of these solutions have worked (with varying degrees of success), none offer a permanent solution. At some point the tension on the thumb stick will decrease and the Joy-Con drift will return.

G / O Media can receive a commission

Dissim Inverted Lighter

However, a YouTuber called “VK’s Channel” claims to have found a permanent solution – and it’s surprisingly simple.

How to Fix Your Drifting Joy-Con

As the channel of VK (which is referred to as “VK” for simplicity) demonstrates in the video below, applying pressure to the outside of the Joy-Con prevents the thumb stick from drifting. To ensure that there was always enough pressure, VK opened the Joy-Con and placed a thin strip of paper behind the sensor of the thumb pen. VK says this immediately fixed the drift and that the problem has not returned yet.

It’s impossible to confirm if slipping a piece of paper into your Joy-Con is actually a long-term solution for everyone as it was only recently discovered, but according to the comments on VKs and social media, it seems to be working so far.

Is It Safe to Repair a Joy-Con yourself?

In theory, filling the tiny gap between the case of the Joy-Con and the back of the thumb stick’s sensor should be enough to hold the case in place, as long as the paper is the correct size – just the paper (or cardboard, cardboard, etc. .) must be about 0.5 mm high. Something bigger doesn’t fit. The paper does not affect the controller when properly placed, and there is no risk of heat or conductivity (just remember to turn off your Joy-Con first).

What You Need to Fix Joy-Con Drift Yourself

I planned to test the fix on two Joy-Cons that I gave up due to extreme drift issues, but I lack the right tools to get the job done – which raises some important caveats that Switch owners should be aware of, before you try it yourself.

To pull the DIY drift fix off VK, you need to remove four tiny tri-wing cap screws on the back of the Joy-Cons. Most Switch owners likely don’t have a tri-wing screwdriver, and if they do, it might not be the right size (a 1.5mm tri-wing will do the job).

But even if you have the right screwdriver, opening your Joy-Cons carries risks. First, the Joy-Cons warranty (or even your console warranty if you’re using a Switch Lite) can void, which means you can’t send them to Nintendo tech support if something breaks. Fortunately, the only bits you’ll have to mess around with are the four screws; You don’t need to touch any other components of the controller other than place a tiny piece of paper or cardboard behind the thumb pen housing.

Although VK’s paper trick doesn’t require any technical precision, DIY fixes are risky. You can accidentally introduce extra dust into the internal components, and small parts could break or fall out and be lost. If you don’t want to risk your Joy-Cons guarantee and ease of use, contact Nintendo and have the drift professionally serviced, or just buy an extra pair instead. But when you’re ready to take matters into your own hands, give this home solution a try.

Delta CEO says the Delta Covid variant had no influence on bookings

The spread of the highly transferable Delta variant of Covid-19 did not harm Delta Air Lines’ bookings, CEO Ed Bastian said on Wednesday.

“We saw no effects at all from the variant,” Bastian said in an interview with CNBC’s “Squawk Box” shortly after he reported better-than-expected quarterly sales.

Other airline CEOs, including American Airlines and United Airlines, also said domestic vacation bookings have rebounded largely to 2019 levels recently, and business travel is also recovering, albeit at a much slower pace.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention announced last week that the Delta-Covid variant became the dominant strain in the US earlier this month, raising concerns about its rapid spread, especially among the unvaccinated.

But summer trips and future travel bookings remain strong. Domestic leisure traffic is at – “if not beyond” – the level that was last recorded in 2019 before the pandemic, said Bastian.

“When the news came of the spread of the variant, we saw no slowdown at all,” said Bastian, citing bookings 60 to 90 days in advance. “We learn to live with it.”

Bastian added that 72% of Delta employees are vaccinated and a “vast majority” of customers surveyed say they have also been vaccinated.
