After two consecutive weeks of over 400,000, the government reported fewer than expected 364,000 new claims for unemployment benefits last week, a new low in the pandemic era. The government released its June employment report on Friday.

The Trump Organization’s chief financial officer, Allen Weisselberg, surrendered to Manhattan prosecutors on Thursday after a grand jury indicted him and former President Donald Trump’s company in criminal proceedings over its business relationships. The charges against the company and Weisselberg, filed by a New York grand jury, are expected to be unsealed in Manhattan Thursday afternoon, a Trump representative told NBC News. NBC had previously reported that the charges were based on allegations by Weisselberg and other Trump Organization executives who received benefits without properly reporting them on their tax returns.

One of the simplest ways to wash your vacuum cleaner brush, in line with TikTok

Illustration for the article titled The Best Way to Clean Your Vacuum Brush, according to TikTokPhoto: Afanasiev Andrii (Shutterstock)

Vacuum cleaners can get clogged if objects get stuck in the hose or if the container is too full, but most clogs can be easily cleared simply by emptying your vacuum cleaner regularly. However, hair and string tend to wrap around the vacuum cleaner brush and can limit its movement, causing slow death until it stops spinning and your vacuum cleaner becomes unusable. At first glance, it might look complicated to get in and unravel the mess, but depending on the vacuum, it’s probably easier than you think.

How to remove a vacuum cleaner brush

The best way to clean a suction brush is to remove it. Unfortunately there is no universal vacuum cleaner, so remove the brush depends on the vacuum mark. Some require removing the lower grille that surrounds the brush; others have a convenient pull-out lever or button that opens a compartment on the side to remove the brush for cleaning. Most modern vacuum cleaners have this capability.

How to clean a tangled vacuum cleaner

Once you remove the brush, cleaning it up is pretty easy, like TikTok users @ vaneamaro91 Highlights. Take good scissors and cut along the length of the brush, being careful with the bristles so you don’t accidentally cut pieces off. Once the hair and tangled particles are loosened, pull the pieces apart with your hands and remove dirt from the brush. (Can wear gloves if you’re gross.)

G / O Media can receive a commission

To the deeper cleansing, you can take a cleaning brush, detergent, and some white vinegar. After removing as much hair and dirt as possible, soak the brush in warm water with dish soap and use a cleaning brush to get into the small areas to loosen stubborn dirt. When you’re done, wipe it down with diluted white vinegar to disinfect the brush and remove any debris that’s still clinging to the bristles. Wipe it dry with a microfiber cloth and make sure the brush is completely dry before you reattach it. Congratulations, your vacuum cleaner will spin like new.

CureVac needs to “go forward” with Covid vaccine regardless of research outcomes

An employee of the German biopharmaceutical company CureVac will demonstrate research on a vaccine against the coronavirus (COVID-19) disease in a laboratory in Tübingen on March 12, 2020.

Andreas Gebert | REUTERS

CureVac plans to continue work on its Covid-19 vaccine despite disappointing clinical trial results that showed the vaccine is only 48% effective.

The German biotech company released its final analysis of the clinical trials of its coronavirus vaccine – known as CVnCoV – on Wednesday, confirming that the vaccine was 48% effective against Covid of all degrees of severity in all ages and 15 variants.

Pierre Kemula, CFO of CureVac, however, defended the vaccine on CNBC Thursday, saying the clinical trials were conducted at a time when several new strains of the virus were spreading around the world.

“We have to speak to the EMA now [European Medicines Agency] and want to make sure we have an open dialogue and share any data we have to assess the way forward, “he told CNBC’s Squawk Box Europe on Thursday.

When asked if it is worth developing the vaccine further when other successful vaccines are already in use in Europe and elsewhere, Kemula said the company had contractual obligations to meet.

“We have a contract with the European Commission to supply 225 million doses of the drug, so I think we need to move forward on that,” he said.

“There are a lot of vaccinations, there are a lot of people under 60 who haven’t had access to the vaccine before. So if we can contribute to the fight – in the short term in the pandemic, but also in the medium term with these other ways of [multivalents] … we are continuing to work on that. “Multivalent or polyvalent vaccines should immunize against more than one virus strain.

The results of the CureVac study, which enrolled 40,000 participants in ten countries in Latin America and Europe, showed that the vaccine was more effective in younger participants. The effectiveness rate among 18 to 60 year olds was 53% for diseases of any severity and increased to 77% for moderate and severe diseases in the same age group.

However, given that Covid-19 carries a higher risk for the elderly, the study results are disappointing, not least because two other vaccines made with messenger RNA (mRNA) – those from Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna – have an efficacy greater than 90 % of have been shown to prevent Covid-19 infection. CureVac’s shares fell as much as 10% according to the test results in extended trading.

Dr. Franz-Werner Haas, CEO of CureVac, defended the results in a statement on Wednesday, saying the vaccine “shows strong public health value” for those aged 18 to 60 and will be an “important contributor to tackling Covid.” -19 pandemic and the dynamic distribution of variants. “

He also cited “the current context of an increasingly diverse environment of Covid-19 variants”.

Several variants have emerged over the course of the pandemic, some of which are more virulent than others – like the alpha variant first discovered in the UK and the delta variant first identified in India – and Kemula said he believed mutations would continue to occur.

“As more and more people become infected with coronavirus, we are prepared for the disease to continue to develop as it progresses and has more and more variants,” said Kemula. The industry must think ahead, “how we can cope better with the current vaccines, but also possibly with various boosters (booster vaccinations),” he added.

INSTAGRAM is working on adding a “Super Follow” style feature that will bring you exclusive photos.

This is evident from leaked photos of a prototype feature that Instagram has since verified.

Typically, when you follow someone on Instagram, you get access to all of their photos and videos.

However, Instagram is testing a new Twitter-style Super Follow that requires payment, as developer Alessandro Paluzzi revealed.

This will give you access to additional photos or videos, much like a service like OnlyFans.

This paid content is branded as “Exclusive Stories”.

#Instagram continues to work on exclusive stories for fan clubs 👀

A normal user who clicks on these exclusive stories will be warned that they must be a member.

How high the fee should be is unclear.

A service like OnlyFans allows creators to set their own prices.

That means it’s possible to have low prices and aim to scale, or high prices with just a few followers – or both.

Instagram – the most important facts

Instagram provides new ‘SUPER Observe’ function the place you pay cash to see footage

Here’s what you need to know …

  • Instagram is a social network for sharing photos and videos
  • It was created in October 2010 as an iPhone-exclusive app
  • A separate version for Android devices was released 18 months later
  • The app became popular thanks to its filter system that allows you to quickly edit your photos with cool effects
  • When it first launched, users could only post 1: 1 square images, but that rule was changed in 2015
  • In 2012, Facebook bought Instagram for $ 1 billion in cash and stock
  • In 2018, some analysts believe the app is worth closer than $ 100 billion
  • In October 2015, Instagram confirmed that more than 40 billion photos were uploaded to the app
  • And in 2018, Instagram revealed that more than a billion people were using the app every month

Meanwhile, Twitch has a fixed subscription fee of $ 5 so the developers are trying to attract as many followers as possible.

Instagram hasn’t officially announced the new feature, and there’s no information on when it will land.

It is possible that the feature could even be scrapped before launch.

However, given that competitors offer similar features, Instagram is unlikely to kill them.

How to not concern demise after Socrates

How to not concern demise after Socrates

Illustration for the article Photo: vangelis aragiannis (Shutterstock)

Socrates did not fear death. Although he suffered a gruesome death (he was executed by the state for the alleged crime of corruption of the Athenian youth), Socrates did not flee or plead with his executioner. If we take to heart his beliefs and teachings – that death is an inevitability that might actually be good – we can find greater acceptance in the unknown as well.

How did Socrates see death?

Socrates lived in a time of immeasurable barbarism, when death, war, and disease determined the experiences of the living. But his familiarity with death was strong, even by the brutal standards of the time. He was a soldier – and even something of a war hero; he saved the future Athenian leader Alcibiades during a siege of the city of Potidaea in 432 BC. Chr.– So he was much more used to the inevitability of mortality than most people in the 21st century.

Ancient Greek society thought of death as a spiritual transition into an underworld of spirits, crystallized by the spirit leaving the body in the form of a culminating exhalation. Socrates was less mystical in his interpretation of death and was clearly realistic if not skeptical about it. When the philosopher was 399 BC In court in Athens, Socrates spoke to a jury of 500 male citizens and delivered a speech that captured his thoughts on death on the most appropriate stage imaginable.

He said after the Cambridge University:

Also, remember in the following way that there is much hope that there is a good thing in being dead. Because being dead is one of two things: either it is like being nothing and the dead person has no perception of anything, or it is, as they say, a kind of change, namely the shifting of the soul from here to another place. And if it is indeed a complete absence of perception, like the sleep of someone who does not dream at all, death would be a remarkable gain.

G / O Media can receive a commission

Socrates had a devoted follower in a young Plato who attended the trial that day. Regarding the behavior of his mentor prior to his execution, Plato noted that Socrates “appeared happy both in his manner and in his words when he died nobly and without fear”. It is an attitude that drove Socrates’ spirits as he drank from the hangman’s cup filled with poisonous hemlock.

How Socrates Can Teach You To Tame Your Fear Of Death

Socrates was in many ways a forerunner of the stoic school of ancient Greek philosophytrying to avoid negative emotions and replace them with an unwavering inner determination. Denying your feelings about death is not necessarily good, but accepting its eventuality can go a long way in taming your fear of the unknown.

It’s a scary concept to be sure but science hasn’t really figured out what it feels like to die beyond the experience of people pronounced dead and later resuscitated. As far as research has established, there are harrowing moments of mental and physical decline, but also hallucinatory reunions with loved ones who have passed away, cinematic moments of your life that flash before your eyes, a state of raptured contentment, and other blissful sensations.

The insight from Socrates’ meditations is that there is nothing to fear in the unknown. In addition, the opportunity to lead a virtuous life combined with the pursuit of knowledge and wisdom should open the doors to fulfillment while you are living. Before the jury, before his execution, Socrates made his most forward-looking and lasting statement: “Untested life is not worth living for man.” What one should do to combat any fear of death is to put oneself in the Investigate the present, suggested the philosopher.

Using the philosopher’s point of view as a guide – that people should seek beauty, strength, and health, tempered with the pursuit of knowledge – will help you ground in the present. Hopefully it fills you with a state of contentment so that death is not so much a morbid ghost haunting you as it is an insignificant aspect of your life.

The very best iPad drawing apps (that are not Adobe Fresco)

The very best iPad drawing apps (that are not Adobe Fresco)

Adobe recently announced that Photoshop Sketch and Illustrator Draw, two great free drawing apps available on the iPad, will be removed from the Apple App Store (and Google Play) on July 19th. Fortunately, the apps get a free replacement in Adobe frescothat combines the features of Photoshop Sketch and Illustrator Draw in a single app – but there could be a better choice for you, and now is the perfect time to find out.

You don’t need to make any changes as existing users can continue to use Photoshop Sketch and Illustrator Draw as long as the programs are installed on their devices by July 19, but the apps will have limited support until they are fully retired January 10, 2022.

However, Adobe Fresco is honestly a much better app than Photoshop Sketch or Illustrator Draw ever were. (Adobe also offers iPad versions of Photoshop and Illustrator, but they’re locked behind a Creative Cloud subscription and lack many of the features of the desktop versions.)

The best other drawing apps for iPad Pro artists

And if you don’t like Adobe’s iPad apps and want to change something, there are plenty of other great drawing programs out there for the iPad Pro – maybe too many. To help you find one that suits your artistic needs, we’ve put together a shortlist of the best drawing apps for iPad Pro artists of every level. There are free and paid apps on this list (although the former are affordable options, we promise), but each has its own unique set of features and capabilities – whether it’s precise vector graphics, bold lines, or digital painting.

Procreate is a powerful app specially designed for iPad and Apple Pencil. The user interface is streamlined and easy to navigate, and it’s packed with professional features like custom brushes, layer blending modes, perspective grids, gradient maps, and more.

Procreate lacks some of the bells and whistles you’ll find in full-fledged desktop programs (I really wish it had Photoshop’s layer effects like “inner glow” and “outline”), and it’s one of the few apps on this list that isn’t available on other devices, but it’s linked to iCloud and Google Drive and supports PSD, PDF, PNG, TIFF, JPEG and its own .procreate file types, among others, so you can easily export Procreate images to other programs.

In fact, Procreate has been my favorite drawing and painting app for years – I use it more than any other app on this list, and it quickly replaced Photoshop when I discovered it a few years ago. It’s a paid app, but dropping $ 10 on a one-time purchase gives you lifetime access and all future feature updates, which is a much better deal than paying a monthly fee for a subscription-based app.

Sketchbook used to be a paid app, but Autodesk now offers the full version for free on the Apple App Store. It doesn’t quite have the same depth of functionality as Procreate or Clip Studio Pro, but it does include key features like custom brushes, layers, and gradient maps, and Sketchbook’s myriad perspective grids and drawing guides are great for creating engineering drawings and design work. It also converts pictures of hand-drawn sketches to pictures using your iPad’s camera. There are free Mac and Windows versions of Sketchbook available This is also useful for those who want to use a single program with a consistent user interface and functionality across multiple devices.

Clip Studio Paint is popular with comic and manga artists who work digitally. It has robust brush customization settings and comes with built-in comic book page layout templates, animation tools, and even a library of 3D reference models – a great addition for anyone learning anatomy (and no, using them isn’t “cheating”).

Clip Studio Paint is available on iPad, Android, and desktop and comes in two versions: Clip Studio Paint Pro for $ 50, which includes all of the above, and Clip Studio Pro EX for $ 219, the advanced manga and Offers animation functions. Fortunately there is a Three month free trial available for all platforms so you can try it out before you buy, and monthly usage plans if you don’t want to pay full price at once.

Illustration for the article titled The Best iPad Drawing Apps (These Are Not Adobe Fresco)Screenshot: affinity

Affinity’s digital art apps on iPad are more like professional desktop programs than streamlined mobile apps.

Affinity Designer is a vector graphics program, making it a solid alternative to Adobe’s Illustrator apps. It includes popular vector graphics tools like curves and precise shape creation, and is a good match for the well-known pen and pencil tools from Adobe Illustrator. Affinity Photo, on the other hand, is more similar to Photoshop and focuses on digital painting and photo editing tools. Both programs are known for their smooth, fast performance on iPad (although their exact performance depends on your iPad model) and their support for Apple Pencil.

Both apps cost $ 50, making them two of the most expensive options on this list, but you only have to pay for them once – which is still better than paying for a monthly subscription to Adobe’s software. You can buy too Mac and Windows versions every app.

Illustration for the article titled The Best iPad Drawing Apps (These Are Not Adobe Fresco)Screenshot: Apple App Store

Our final highlighted selection is Linea Sketch, another completely free app. Compared to our other free selection, Sketchbook, Linea Sketch isn’t as sturdy, but its simplicity is part of its appeal.

Linea Sketch is a straightforward drawing and painting app that, unlike many of the cross-platform apps mentioned above, is designed specifically for the iPad and Apple Pencil. It’s a great beginner program too, thanks to its helpful color picking tips that offer a choice of complementary colors.

Other standard digital graphics features like line support, transform tools, perspective grids, built-in page layouts, and multi-layer support are also included (although I should note that the app only has five layers per drawing). If you want to edit your Linea Sketch drawings in other programs, you can export them as PSD, PNG or JPEG.

And much more

As I said earlier, this list only covers a fraction of the really useful drawing apps available on the iPad. I’ve mainly focused on apps that I use (or have used), so it’s likely missing some that other digital creators swear by. If your favorite isn’t on the list, leave a suggestion in the comments. If they turn out to be hugely popular, I’ll add them to the list in a future update.

Johnson & Johnson Covid vaccine can defend folks from the Delta variant

The US surgeon general Dr. Vivek Murthy told CNBC on Wednesday there was reason to hope that people who received the one-off Johnson & Johnson Covid-19 vaccine may be protected against the Delta variant of the virus.

Murthy pointed to data showing that the Oxford-AstraZeneca syringe was highly effective against hospitalizations of the more contagious variety. He also said people should consider the AstraZeneca vaccine “a cousin” of J & J’s shot, as it was “built on a similar platform”.

“While we await direct trials of Johnson & Johnson and the Delta variant, we have reason to be hopeful because the J&J vaccine has been shown to be quite effective against hospitalizations and deaths in all of the variants we have seen.” Date, “Murthy told The News with Shepard Smith.”

World Health Organization officials urged fully vaccinated people to continue wearing masks, maintain social distance, and practice other pandemic-related safety measures as the Delta variant spreads around the world.

However, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention confirmed Wednesday that it would be up to state and local health authorities to set guidelines for wearing masks.

Murthy said the CDC’s guidelines were based on giving people flexibility.

“The CDC essentially gave people flexibility and choice in their guidelines, but wanted people to know that the risk of getting or passing this virus is small when fully vaccinated indoors or when fully outdoors required are vaccinated, “said Murthy.

Approved vaccines from Moderna, Pfizer-BioNTech, and Johnson & Johnson have been shown to be highly effective in preventing Covid, particularly against serious illness and death.

BEIJING – Chinese President Xi Jinping on Thursday spoke of China’s firm determination to withstand pressure from abroad while demonstrating national aspirations at the celebration of the 100th anniversary of the ruling Chinese Communist Party.

China will not accept “sanctimonious sermons from those who have the right to teach us,” said Xi, according to an official translation of his remarks in Mandarin. He did not name a specific country amid mounting tensions with the US

Xi said China would never allow a foreign force to harass it, and anyone who tried would be “on a collision course with a great steel wall forged by over 1.4 billion people.”

“A century ago, China was in decline and withered in the eyes of the world,” he said. “Today it presents the world with the image of a prosperous nation advancing with unstoppable momentum toward rejuvenation.”

Looking to the future, Xi spoke of working with “peace-loving countries”, building the party and advocating for “national rejuvenation”. He also spoke generally of “strategic steps” towards the “second 100-year goal”.

We will ensure that the fate of China’s development and progress remains firmly in our own hands.

Xi Jinping

Chinese President

China’s bicentenary goal is to “build a moderately wealthy society in all respects” by 2021 and by 2049, the 100th anniversary.

Xi added that China needs to “promote high quality development” and build national strength in science and technology.

He stressed the need for China to modernize its military and train personnel to “world-class standards” in order to maintain national security.

Xi’s speech lasted just over an hour and focused mainly on a historical narrative of the Communist Party’s successful role in the country’s history since the 19th century. He did not mention controversial events such as the Cultural Revolution.

The length of Xi’s speech contrasted with his brief remarks – less than 10 minutes – on the 70th anniversary of the People’s Republic of China in 2019. The celebration at the time included flamboyant floats from different parts of the country and a military parade, which authorities said earlier would not be the case at the party’s centenary.

On Thursday, Xi wore a traditional gray “Mao” suit, while almost all of the leaders and dignitaries who joined him at the Forbidden City gate overlooking Tiananmen Square wore western suits and ties. According to state media, more than 70,000 people attended the celebration.

Most attendees did not appear to wear face masks or practice social distancing at the event, which had strict requirements such as vaccinations to attend.

“The party and the Chinese people will confidently take big strides along the path we have chosen for ourselves,” said Xi. “We will see that the fate of China’s development and progress remains firmly in our own hands.”

“We have to maintain firm leadership of the party. China’s success depends on the party, “said Xi, adding that” the party was chosen by history and the people. “

Regarding the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, Xi said China will “ensure social stability”. He again spoke of progress towards “peaceful national reunification” with Taiwan, which Beijing regards as a breakaway province.

Xi officially became president in 2013 and also holds the highest political position of general secretary of the party’s central committee. He abolished term restrictions in 2018 and allowed him to remain president for life.

According to state media, there were 95.148 million members of the Chinese Communist Party as of June 5, 3.234 million more than at the end of 2019. More than 12 million, or about 13%, were 30 years and under.

Membership in the party is encouraged from an early age, although the accession process is very selective. Many senior positions, including in private companies, often require party membership.

The official narrative recognizes July 1, 1921 as the time the party was founded, although the exact date may have been slightly different. The gathering of delegates, including future leader Mao Zedong, took place nearly 30 years before the Chinese Communist Party fought against Japan and then against the Chinese Nationalist (Kuomintang) Party to become the ruling party of the People’s Republic of China.
