Darren Sarll, the damaged hearted Yeovil supervisor, finds a counselor after Lee Collins’ demise and raises cash for his household

0

Almost two months later, the pain in Yeovil Town has not subsided after the tragic death of its captain Lee Collins.

Manager Darren Sarll and owner Scott Priestnall both feel that part of them has been missing since Collins committed suicide on March 31, when he was only 32 years old.

While teammate Carl Dickinson is still frustrated that “Collo” did not open up to him about his demons, even though the two often discussed the loss they had suffered in their lives.

The defense attorney said: “You always think when he has just said something to me.” To be honest, I still have a bit of a problem with that.

“Most of the time when we had a beer it was a deep and meaningful conversation because we had been through similar things – we both lost our fathers.

“You think, ‘If you could talk to me about something so profound, why couldn’t you talk about the other side?'”

It is one of many unanswered questions that those affected by Collins’ death ask no more than his partner Rachel and their daughters Amelia, Laila and Charley-Mae.

The club has launched a crowdfunding campaign to raise money for the girls who were guests and mascots in the last home game against Stockport on Saturday.

Lee Harvey Collins was a gentle giant who constantly put others in front of him. What happened seems to have come as a complete shock to everyone.

Sarll, who signed him to Forest Green in 2019, described his skipper as an “iceberg” – a strong presence that gave no indication of the problems he was facing beneath the surface.

He was an authoritative figure in the locker room that all players admired and respected.

Dickinson, whose 17-year career led him from the Premier League to the National League, saw a kindred spirit in Collins.

The 34-year-old said: “I first met Collo at a bachelorette party with my old teammates. He was a happy, fun, and caring guy who seemed to get his money’s worth.

“He was a tough competitor. Everything he did meant something. He was a winner, I’d like to believe that’s why we got along so well. We had the same energy. “

Sarll will never forget to receive the phone call detailing the terrible news.

Almost all of Yeovil’s players live in different parts of the country but stay in local apartments a few days a week.

Sarll went to Collins’s quarters, which were surrounded by flashing blue lights.

The 38-year-old felt obliged to personally deliver the news to each of his players that evening.

For a really brilliant person who just cared about it and gave his time and energy to someone else, now let’s do the same to his girls

Darren Sarll

Sarll recalled: “It’s the hardest thing I’ve ever had to do.

“The first time you shock yourself by saying the words. At the end of the evening, you are numb to what is actually coming out of your mouth. “

Dickinson, who shared an apartment with three other players, celebrated his birthday that evening.

But he knew something was going on when a somber-sounding Sarll said he would stop by.

The left-back said, “I opened the door to the top light, saw his face and knew something was wrong.

“When he finally sat us down and told us, it’s something I won’t forget. It was terrible.

“As a group, we decided to go home the next day. Pretty much every boy in the squad doesn’t come from anywhere near Yeovil. That was the best we did just to get back to family. “

Most of the players eventually returned – although some couldn’t stand it – and everyone tried to return to a normalcy so impossible to achieve.

Priestnall said, “I’m sad when I go to the club. God knows what it is like for everyone else to walk through these doors every day and miss a piece of it.

“I think the club has still not gone through what we have to go through.

“It’s probably a good thing that the season is over by the end of this week so people can have a good time with their families and take care of themselves.”

Dickinson nodded a little at the flowers in front of the stadium or waved when he drove in.

His locker is next to Collins’ and he pokes him every day, and so does the picture of her deceased colleague on display in the tunnel in Huish Park.

After a two week hiatus for a compassionate vacation, the team started playing games again, but it was largely a blur and results were unsurprisingly affected.

The players and staff are still grieving. The end of the season couldn’t come soon enough.

Sarll has not been able to celebrate a goal since then and sees an advisor.

YOU’RE NOT ALONE

One life is lost to suicide every 90 minutes in the UK.

It does not discriminate and affects the lives of people in every corner of society – from the homeless and the unemployed to builders and doctors, reality stars and soccer players.

It’s the biggest killer of people under the age of 35, more deadly than cancer and car accidents.

However, there is seldom talk of a taboo that threatens to continue its fatal rampage unless we all stop now and take note of it.

This is why The Sun launched the “You are not alone” campaign.

The aim is for all of us to do our part in saving lives by sharing practical advice, raising awareness, and removing the barriers people face when talking about their mental health.

Let us all swear to ask for help when we need it and to listen to others … you are not alone.

If you or someone you know needs help managing mental health problems, the following organizations can help:

It made him reevaluate how he treats players in the locker room and no longer want to lose his temper because you never know what someone is going through in private.

He added: “We have to adapt. I have to adapt. Everything I believe in now is more about prevention than cure.

“If I have taken anything from this experience, the healing is really difficult.

“Sometimes it is not doable and this person is not able to do it.

“It’s about knowledge, it’s about retraining our brains to be open-minded that this thing is a lot here, this disease is very much among us, it can be in every locker room in the country at every level and it plays Doesn’t matter if that person has 10 million pounds in the bank or 10 pence.

“It’s something that we all need to take into account and that we probably need to train on a little.”

Mental health is a topic of increasing discussion in society and even in football, so it is often the last thing to catch up.

However, Dickinson believes that more can be done to help players struggling internally.

The ex-husband from Watford and Port Vale added, “After what has happened, representatives from certain areas should go to clubs once or twice a month, whether they are professionals or ex-players themselves have experienced to get the mentality of the soccer team.

“Some players may be more willing to speak to an ex-pro than to one [mental health] professional or vice versa.

“The club was fantastic, but in terms of the overall picture of each club, I think there needs to be more people coming in and talking to guys.”

Sarll was deeply committed to ensuring that Collins’ wife and daughters had financial support, so he helped start the fundraiser for them.

Ten percent of donations go to the Young Minds charity, which provides mental health support to all young people in need.

Sarll added: “Lee has played for some big institutions. He started with Wolves, he played with Barnsley, Shrewsbury, Northampton, Port Vale, Yeovil and Forest Green.

“If the football world really wants to get behind this, we can do something really great.

“In a world where we are surrounded by real negativity, misery and, for many of us, death, we can do something really great here for young people.

“For a really brilliant person who just cared about it and gave his time and energy to someone else, now let’s do the same with his girls.”

South Africa tries to cease the third wave of Covid because the financial outlook improves

Economic activity in South Africa has recovered faster than expected in recent months and the rand has been the strongest performing currency in emerging markets this year. However, the country is racing to introduce Covid-19 vaccines when a third wave emerges.

In its financial stability review on Thursday, the South African Reserve Bank said the economy was continuing to recover from a 2020 recession that saw gross domestic product shrink 7%, the sharpest decline in over a century.

“Positive data releases, an increase in global economic activity, robust international trade, increased commodity prices and improved mobility” prompted NKC African Economics to revise its GDP forecast for the first quarter from a previous forecast of 3.3% to 1.4% per quarter to increase% contraction. NKC analysts now expect GDP growth of 3.1% in 2021.

The industrial sector, particularly mining and manufacturing, recorded positive growth rates due to increased global demand and high raw material prices

“Google mobility data, which has proven to be a good indicator of economic activity, has improved to the best level since the coronavirus shock hit,” NKC senior economist Pieter du Preez said in a press release on Wednesday.

Third wave risks

The major credit rating agencies reiterated all of their ratings for South Africa last week, but Fitch noted that although household accounts were positively surprised in both Q4 2020 and Q1 2021, the country is still exposed to “significant risks” Debt stabilization. “

S&P also highlighted structural complaints, a lack of economic reforms and a sluggish vaccination campaign as barriers to medium-term growth potential.

Despite positive surprises so far, the SARB warned that the outlook continues to depend heavily on the pace of vaccine adoption and the possible recurrence of the virus, suggesting the pandemic could last through 2022.

To date, the country has reported a total of over 1.6 million Covid cases and more than 56,000 deaths, according to Johns Hopkins University.

Now the seven-day moving average of daily new cases in South Africa has risen from around 780 in early April to over 3,700 at the end of last week.

Given the magnitude of the previous impact on economic activity, the government appears unwilling to reintroduce strict virus restrictions, despite President Cyril Ramaphosa meeting with the country’s coronavirus task force this week to discuss possible strategies.

South Africa has started working towards its goal of vaccinating 5 million seniors by the end of June and 67% of its 60 million population by February. The country has purchased 30 million doses of Pfizer BioNTech vaccine and ordered 31 million doses of the vaccine from Johnson & Johnson, both of which have been shown to be effective against the dominant variant circulating in the country.

The central bank also pointed out the risks of a sudden shift in the global financial situation and the persistently “high and rising national debt” in South Africa.

NKC’s Du Preez said the upcoming third wave of Covid-19 will disrupt the economic recovery process. Meanwhile, the government is embroiled in lengthy negotiations with the unions to freeze public sector wages, which, according to du Preez, is also negative for the economic outlook.

“The national treasury would either be forced to re-prioritize spending or over-spend on an already large budget deficit,” he said.

“Re-prioritizing spending would mean cutting funding for critical sectors of the economy or reducing urgently needed infrastructure upgrades.”

The Treasury Department is therefore “between a rock and a hard place,” added du Preez, as excessive spending could send a signal that the authorities are not taking fiscal consolidation seriously.

Roaring edge

Any sign of waning commitment to these austerity measures would put pressure on the fringes, said Jason Tuvey, senior emerging market economist with Capital Economics, in a recent statement.

The rand has risen on higher metal prices and was trading at around 13.76 against the dollar on Monday morning.

However, analysts at Capital Economics said in a statement Thursday that “The Rand’s star performance is unlikely to last as we expect most commodity prices to fall and long-term US yields to rise again, which is the case EM again puts pressure on currencies. “

“In addition, we believe that the SARB will not tighten policy as quickly as investors are now, and that fiscal concerns in South Africa will re-emerge at some point.”

Capital Economics expects the rand to weaken to around 15.5 against the dollar by the end of the year.

SINGAPORE – Singapore’s Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong said Monday that the country’s Covid restrictions could be eased after June 13 if the situation improves.

“Aside from another super-spreader or large cluster, we should be on track to get this outbreak under control,” he said in a televised address.

“If our situation continues to improve and the number of cases in the community continues to decline, we should be able to relax restrictions after June 13,” he said.

The Southeast Asian nation saw the number of local coronavirus infections spike in April and imposed stricter measures twice in May to contain the spread of the virus.

Beginning May 8, Singapore extended quarantine for overseas travelers, closing gyms and restricting social gatherings to groups of five.

She later announced a ban on eating, limited public gatherings for groups of two, and said all workers who can work from home must do so from May 16 to June 13. At that point, the government announced it would review the two measures weeks later.

The surge in cases also delayed the Singapore-Hong Kong travel bubble further.

The Singapore government last week warned of “heightened uncertainties” in the coming months due to the pandemic, but maintained its growth forecast for 2021 at 4% to 6%. The country’s economy grew 1.3% in the first quarter of 2021, the fastest pace in more than a year.

As of Sunday, the country reported 62,028 confirmed cases of Covid-19 and 33 deaths from the disease.

UOB YOLO is now the UOB Evol: What’s Modified ?, Cash Information

0

The UOB YOLO has been renamed UOB Evol and restarted, but the changes are more than just up close.

Of all the credit card launches in recent times, the UOB YOLO is likely taking the cake for “Most Interesting Name”. Launched the YOLO back in 2016, UOB believed its rewards for lifestyle spending and priority access to bars and clubs would be key to entering the millennial market.

But just five years later it was decided that the YOLO mantra was a thing of the past. UOB has now renamed the YOLO to UOB Evol and restarted it. New YOLO cards will no longer be issued and existing YOLO cardholders will automatically switch to the Evol program from June 17, 2021.

It’s more than just another name, however – there are some serious changes under the hood.

What is the difference between YOLO and Evol?

At first glance, YOLO and Evol look very similar. The most noticeable difference is that the Evol uses a card face in portrait orientation, with the numbers shifted backwards.

UOB EVOL UOB YOLO
Cashback
  • Eight percent on mobile payments
  • Eight percent for online spending
  • 0.3 percent elsewhere
  • Eight percent for restaurants, entertainment, Grab, and UOB Travel (three percent on weekdays)
  • Three percent on online travel and fashion
  • 0.3 percent elsewhere
Minimum. Spend a month 600 dollars 600 dollars
Cashback cap per month $ 60 (max. $ 20 per category) $ 60

But they are basically very different products. The YOLO offered cardholders three percent and eight percent cashback for restaurants, entertainment, Grab and UOB Travel, respectively, on weekdays and weekends.

Cardholders can also earn three percent cashback on online fashion and travel expenses.

The EVOL makes things a lot easier. Instead of having different rules for weekdays and weekends, cardholders receive a flat-rate cashback of eight percent for:

  • Mobile payment
  • Online editions

A cashback of 0.3 percent is given everywhere. A minimum of $ 600 per statement month is required to unlock the eight percent cashback rates. The maximum cashback that can be earned per statement month is $ 60, divided into:

  • $ 20 for mobile payments
  • $ 20 for online spending
  • $ 20 for all other types of expenses

This is far superior to the previous regulation as mobile payments and online spending are very broad categories.

As long as you pay with your phone or use your card online, you get 8 percent cashback, whether it’s restaurants, movie tickets, streaming subscriptions, groceries, or a haircut.

However, there is one important caveat that needs to be highlighted. Although UOB advertises “8 percent cashback” as its headline rate, the best you can get is 6.7 percent. Why? Because of how the caps work.

Based on an eight percent cashback rate and a cap per category of $ 20, you can maximize bonus cashback by spending $ 250 each on mobile payments and online spending. In total, however, you’ve only spent $ 500, which is $ 100 less than the $ 600 minimum spend.

[[nid:524452]]]

Therefore, you’ll need to spend at least $ 100 with a cashback rate of only 0.3 percent, which will reduce your effective cashback to 6.7 percent. It’s still a decent rate, but eight percent isn’t.

Aside from cashback, UOB plays the sustainability aspect of the Evol. It trumps the fact that the card consists of 82 percent vegetable polylactic acid, which saves 4.48 g of PVC and creates a 10 g lower carbon footprint.

To this end, the company is also working with a group of sustainable retailers to offer EVOL cardholders special offers. For example, cardholders can receive a five percent discount on purchases in your sustainable store or a 15 percent discount on kitchen utensils as part of the sustainability project.

How does that compare to the OCBC FRANK & DBS Live Fresh?

If the online and contactless spending bonuses sound familiar to you, it’s because OCBC FRANK and DBS Live Fresh basically offer the same thing.

OCBC FRANK and DBS Live Fresh cardholders earn six percent and five percent cashback, respectively, on online and contactless spending, which is less than what UOB Evol offers.

EVOL Live fresh FRANK
Online editions Eight percent Five percent Six percent
Contactless expenses Eight percent Five percent Six percent
“Sustainable Spending” 0.3 percent Five percent 0.3 percent
Foreign currency 0.3 percent 0.3 percent Six percent
All other 0.3 percent 0.3 percent 0.3 percent
Minimum. Monthly expenses 600 dollars 600 dollars 600 dollars
Max. Monthly cashback $ 60 $ 75 $ 75

However, your maximum monthly cashback caps are higher at $ 75 instead of $ 60. Because of this, their effective discounts can be higher depending on how much you spend.

To illustrate this, let’s consider three different scenarios:

  • Scenario A: Spend $ 600 per month
  • Scenario B: Spend $ 800 per month
  • Scenario C: Spend $ 1,000 per month
EVOL Live fresh FRANK
Scenario A: $ 600 6.7 percent Five percent Six percent
Scenario B: $ 800 5.1 percent Five percent Six percent
Scenario C: $ 1,000 4.2 percent Five percent 5.1 percent

Spending $ 600, the Evol has the highest effective cashback at 6.7 percent (although, as mentioned, it’s not quite eight percent).

But once we get to $ 800, the FRANK card has the better deal. That’s because the $ 501-800th earns 0.3 percent cashback on the Evol, lowering its average to 5.1 percent. FRANK, on the other hand, continues to earn six percent cashback in this area.

At $ 1,000, the Evol’s effective cashback also drops to 4.2 percent, and the FRANK also drops to 5.1 percent (because the $ 834-1,000th earns 0.3 percent cashback).

The result is that someone who spends $ 600 every month on the point will find the Evol to be a useful card, but there’s a narrow range where it’s the best of the three. Once you spend S $ 675 or more, the FRANK becomes a better option.

Conclusion

All in all, the UOB Evol is an improvement over the previous YOLO card. It’s a lot easier to maximize your monthly cashback, and the only thing you really have to do is add it to your mobile wallet and use it as your default card for everything.

That said, it’s important to keep the caps in mind and keep track of your overall spending. Once you top $ 675 per month, other cashback cards become better options.

Stocks in Malaysia fell early Monday as the government announced a nationwide “total lockdown” to contain the rapidly rising daily Covid-19 infections in the country.

The benchmark index, FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI, fell around 1.5% at the time of opening, before leveling off around 1.1%, trailing most markets in the Asia-Pacific region.

Malaysia is struggling to control an increase in Covid infections. Last week, the country reported five consecutive days of record spikes in coronavirus cases, bringing cumulative infections to more than 565,500 cases, with 2,729 deaths on Sunday, health ministry data showed.

Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin announced on Friday after the market closed that the country would enter into a two-week lockdown from Tuesday.

During the period, individuals are generally only allowed to leave their homes to purchase essential items or to get medical services. For companies, those offering essential services remain open, while certain segments of manufacturing can operate at reduced capacity.

Brian Tan, an economist at Barclays Bank in Singapore, estimated the measures will cost the Malaysian economy between 0.5 and 1 percentage point every two weeks.

Tan wrote in a Monday note that he has cut Malaysia’s growth forecast for 2021 from 6.5% to 5.5% – below the central bank’s projection range of 6% to 7.5%.

What I realized from a month making an attempt to take pleasure in strolling

Illustration for article titled What I Learned From a Month Trying to Enjoy WalkingPhoto: Jo Panuwat D (Shutterstock)

When I decided to try for a month to make myself really enjoy running for the race Lifehacker Fitness ChallengeI admit my expectations were low. And then my first runThey fell even more than I thought possible. What followed over the next few weeks was a series of ups and downs culminating in this conclusion: I don’t quite like running yet, but I can actually tolerate it now, and I think I’ll like it more and more over time.

As you may remember when you’ve followed my journey I did this first run– just to get an overview of where I started – everything went wrong. I was running uphill in my neighborhood (for reasons I still can’t explain), my ankles felt like they couldn’t bend properly (for reasons I still can’t pinpoint), and I barely got two blocks before I cursed my decision to even try this challenge (this part makes sense).

Until the second week I had discovered the joy the zombies are, Run! Appwhat I found entertaining and what gave me extra motivation, and I ended up in a thoroughly neutral “Running is more” category – a major improvement. Week three had even more perks after interviewing Lifehacker’s editor-in-chief Jordan Calhoun and myself Jason Fitzgerald of Strength Running for Lifehackers Podcast The upgrade– Jason’s encouragement and advice prepared me for what was likely The most enjoyable run I’ve ever done in my life. I didn’t like all running yet, but I did like that one run in particular.

When I woke up the next morning with a sore ankle, I gave myself a few days to rest so as not to risk further injuring it. The following week was quite a bummer, including one final run that ended when the pain in my ankle suddenly flared up again just as I was slowing down for a walk. Until then it was going pretty well. I felt strong and proud of the progress I had made.

Despite the slight injury, I gave myself a “three” on my running mood scale from one to five for this week. (Five beings, “Oh, that’s what hell feels like”, and one being, “Weeee, I’m a runner! Look at me, go!”) I think this is still kind of a success because if you ‘ I had wondered a month ago how I would have expected when I ended this challenge on a painful remark. I would have said, “This will be the last run I’ll ever do.”

G / O Media can receive a commission

I actually told myself at the beginning of this process that if I got to the end of the month and still hate running, I would never have to “run” again as long as I was alive and go back to my previous planned exercises that i really enjoy. But I can see now that in the past I have never stayed running long enough to get over the hump that most new runners experience in the beginning. And this time I can say that I’m right there – I’m so close.

Did I learn to like to run in 30 days? Not during that particular 30 days, I think, under the circumstances. But I’ve been able to develop a new appreciation for it, and I see a way to like it in the near future – a future where proper stretching is finally a top priority.

Buddies Reunion Director speaks “impolite” Matthew Perry feedback

0

The director of the Friends Reunion special on HBO Max has only kind words to say Matthew Perry.

Ben Winston, who introduced the show’s six stars after re-watching the series again, recently spoke about comments fans have made about the actor’s appearance in the special.

Matthew, who portrayed Chandler Bing on the longtime sitcom, has been open to the fight against substance abuse over the years, which in turn was sometimes reflected in his appearance on Friends.

However, Ben has no reason to believe that Matthew is currently struggling with any health issues.

“He was great,” Ben said on The Hollywood Reporter’s Top Five podcast television on Friday May 28th. “People can just be rude at times. I wish they weren’t. I loved working with him. He’s a brilliantly funny man and I just felt happy and happy to be around him and him to direct something like that. “
