This week we’re talking about storage. Specifically, what to do if the (somewhat expensive) flash drive you bought doesn’t give you the full space you need. As the Lifehacker reader “SK” writes:

My question is how to format a 64GB flash drive so that both a PC and a Mac can use it. If you do exfat it will only format 32GB. What do you do with the rest Help please?

Unknown partitions can significantly reduce your free space

I have a couple of ideas as to why this might happen, but first I wanted to say that you are doing the right thing by trying to format your flash drive as exFAT. Windows will not allow you to format a flash drive larger than 32GB as FAT32 because Windows. But that doesn’t mean you can’t. If you are using a third-party tool such as EaseUS Partition MasterThis allows you to format your flash drive as a 64TB FAT32 file system.

As always, this is only useful if you want that good Windows / Mac compatibility and don’t plan to put individual files larger than 4 GB on your flash drive – FAT32’s Achilles heel.

(If all of this sounds like hocus-pocus to you, don’t worry. Storage devices can be formatted with different file systems, and each has its own strengths and weaknesses. This is usually something you don’t have to worry about when you save the first time when you format something, and in general, it’s an issue that is more likely to affect you when trying to use a dual platform storage device.For example, if you live in a Windows world, just format your flash drive as NTFS and done.)

However, there’s no reason exFAT shouldn’t work, and I would generally stick with it when switching between Mac and Windows. You never know when you might be going against that FAT32 limit, and it’s better to have that compatibility upfront than waste time copying files from your drive, reformatting them to exFAT, and copying them all back.

I believe that formatting your drive as exFAT will cut it in half in size. In my opinion, this is not a problem inherent in exFAT. I actually have a 64GB flash drive right in front of me, just plugged it in and tried reformatting it as exFAT using the normal Windows tool.

We didn’t encounter any issues with these settings, so I suspect something else might be happening to your flash drive.

Make sure you don’t accidentally use multiple partitions on your flash drive. This can result in the inability to access the space that you can access after formatting your flash drive. To do this, click the Windows 10 Start button and enter “Computer Management.” Start this app and then click on “Disk Management” under the heading “Storage” in the left sidebar. You should see a screen that looks like this:

Find your removable storage drive in the list of storage devices below and make sure it has a single partition – like in the image above for the “G:” drive – rather than two. If the latter is the case, then right click on it “Delete volume” Then right-click on the large piece of space and select it “New Simple Volume.” As part of the process, you will be asked to format the volume with a specific file system. Choose exFATand you should be fine.

I would do the process even if you were staring at a single volume. However, I can’t imagine why a 64GB drive only shows a 32GB volume and nothing else, not even some of the unallocated space. This is where we start to “throw any solution onto the problem,” I think.

I can also use a third party tool to do this (like the one above) EaseUS Partition Master) to do your formatting instead of Windows. A problem with the operating system may be causing your memory chaos, and a third-party app can overcome that. Still, I think the very root of your problem is an extra partition that you just don’t notice. Fix that and you should have a full 64GB of space that you can format as exFAT with no problem.

President Joe Biden will make his first overseas tour as President in June when he visits the UK and Belgium for important meetings with allied nations, the White House said Friday.

This news comes amid Biden’s virtual climate summit with world leaders as he advocates reducing greenhouse gas emissions. On Thursday, Biden pledged to cut US emissions by at least 50% by 2030.

The Biden administration has announced that it will reset ties with various allies after President Donald Trump’s often turbulent relations with other nations. Trump criticized other NATO nations, saying they were not paying their fair share of defense spending.

Biden will begin his journey at the G7 summit in Cornwall, UK, where he will also hold bilateral meetings with leaders such as UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson. This summit will take place from June 11th to 13th.

The president will work to “advance major US political priorities on public health, economic recovery and climate change, and to demonstrate solidarity and shared values ​​among major democracies,” the White House statement said.

Dr. Scott Gottlieb told CNBC on Friday he believes the United States may struggle to achieve “true herd immunity” to Covid, suggesting there will be coronavirus infections in the years to come.

However, the former commissioner of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration stressed that new cases alone should not be the metric that gets the greatest focus as more people are vaccinated against Covid.

“I don’t think we should think about achieving herd immunity. I don’t know that we will ever achieve real herd immunity where this virus simply no longer circulates,” said Gottlieb at “Closing Bell”. “I think it will always be circulating at low levels. That should be the goal of keeping virus levels down.”

Gottlieb, who serves on the board of directors at Covid vaccine maker Pfizer, expects the US to make significant strides toward that goal in the coming weeks.

“I think we’ll reach a point this summer where the spread of this virus will be extremely low. We’ll likely see the cases collapse pretty soon sometime in May. We’re already seeing it in parts of the country.” said Gottlieb.

Even so, according to Gottlieb, the US could flatten about 5,000 to 10,000 new coronavirus cases per day this summer, partly due to how commonplace Covid testing has become. “We’re going to see a lot of asymptomatic and mildly symptomatic infections,” he said.

“I think the bottom line is that vaccination is dramatically reducing the susceptibility of the American population, and that’s what we really need to focus on,” said Gottlieb, who headed the FDA in the Trump administration from 2017 to 2019.

“We shouldn’t just focus on cases. There will be cases, but we should focus on how many people are hospitalized and get this virus. That will drop dramatically when we introduce the vaccines,” he said.

Public health experts have stressed throughout the pandemic that the more people in a population have immunity protection for a particular virus, the less easily it will spread. While vaccines have been shown to reduce transmission, Gottlieb isn’t the first to point out that achieving permanent herd immunity is likely to be a challenge for Covid.

The Chief Medical Officer of the White House, Dr. Anthony Fauci, has estimated that 75% to 85% of the population vaccinated against Covid would create an “umbrella” of immunity. “That could even protect the vulnerabilities that weren’t vaccinated or where the vaccine wasn’t effective,” he told CNBC in December, shortly after the FDA approved Pfizer’s emergency use of Pfizer.

About 41% of the US population have now received at least one dose of Covid vaccine, and 27.5% are fully vaccinated, according to the latest information from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. CDC data show that a total of more than 220 million doses were administered.

Gottlieb previously said that the US could theoretically get to a point where Covid, like other diseases like polio and smallpox, will be eradicated. “It is possible. We do not seem ready to do this and take the collective action that is required,” he told CNBC on April 16.

“It will take people who practice a civic virtue to get vaccinated, even if they individually feel low risk of infection,” he said. “Because even if they are at low risk, they can still get and transmit the infection, and you cannot eradicate a disease where you have a significant contingent of people who will continue to catch and transmit it.”

JUNEAU, Alaska – Alaska lawmakers want to help shape how the state spends more than $ 1 billion on a new federal aid package a year after largely ceding the decision on an earlier pandemic-related aid package to Governor Mike Dunleavy.

The legislature reaches its 121-day session limit on May 19. The state constitution allows an extension of 10 days if enough legislators agree to one. Federal guidelines on how the money can be spent are not expected until May 10th.

While some lawmakers have delayed decisions on the aid funds for a special session, Alaska House and Senate leaders aren’t sure they would have the votes to invite them to a special session.

“There are a lot of lawmakers who say we’ll be here for 121 days, that should be enough to get our job done. And that’s our goal: do our job and have it done in 121 days, ”said House Spokeswoman Louise Stutes, a Kodiak Republican.

Dunleavy has proposed a comprehensive overview of the use of the funds, including aid to business and infrastructure investments. Legislators are expected to use the proposal as a starting point for their own plans.

Rep. Sara Rasmussen, an Anchorage Republican who sits on the House Finance Committee, said lawmakers want more control over how the state spends those funds. For the past year, lawmakers rushed to end their jobs early due to COVID-19 concerns essentially have stamping plans offered by the Dunleavy government.

Micciche and Stutes, who met with Dunleavy Tuesday, said there was general agreement that the federal money will not be used to permanently add to the budget.

In recent years, the debate over the amount of the check paid to residents of the state oil fund has been a dominant topic as lawmakers relied heavily on the fund’s earnings, which have long been used to pay checks to, too to finance government services with low oil revenues. Legislators have settled on an amount to pay the checks instead of following a formula that some say is out of date and unsustainable. Dunleavy has argued that the formula should be followed until it is changed.

Micciche said federal aid had given some momentum to efforts to find a long-term solution. “I mean, politicians, basically a lot of people want to do that when you can avoid the tough choices,” he said.

He said his Republican-led Senate majority would welcome lawmakers to spend some of the federal money at that session and leave some for later allocation.

Micciche and Stutes said they are optimistic that an agreement can be reached on a dividend and use of federal aid dollars by May 19.

“It’ll have to dance a little, but we know the tune,” said Stutes.

I don’t drink gin & tonics in winter, but it’s no longer winter. The G&T is a garden drink best consumed when lounging among pretty flowers and in green fields (or backyards), preferably in a fun summer dress. (They’re also a very good hot tub drink – they have a moisturizing effect, even though they’re exactly the opposite.)

Besides the gin, I also like how adaptable they are. The combination of a powerful spirit and an aggressively bitter (but still pretty sweet) tonic mixes well with fruits, herbs, and even peppercorns, making it a great vehicle for the “last bit” of languishing herbs or berries. It also plays well with other spirits, especially those with a lower ABV like fortified wine, amari, and liquors.

Lillet is one such fortified wine, and it goes particularly well with G&T. The golden, honey-colored and flavored aperitif has a good chunk with notes of mint, citrus and pine and goes well with tonic with gin and china flavor. (If you don’t love a lot of tonic, you can always cut it with some lemonade.) To make this happy little sipper you will need:

  • 1 3/4 ounces gin
  • 3/4 ounce Lillet Blanc (although the blush or rosé might be fun too)
  • 2-3 ounces of tonic water, depending on how much you like tonic

Combine the gin and lillet in a highball glass filled with crushed ice and stir. Top with tonic and garnish with any citrus peel that you have in your product drawer. Why not throw in a few berries too? Heck, I could even include some thinly sliced ​​cucumber. It’s finally out beautiful – go crazy.

U.S. health officials on Friday lifted a recommended hiatus for the use of Johnson & Johnson’s Covid-19 vaccine and provided assistance to state and local authorities in distributing the doses that are considered critical to delivering life-saving shots to hard-to-reach ones To bring communities.

“We have taken the hiatus based on a review of all available data by the FDA and CDC and in consultation with medical experts and based on recommendations from the CDC Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices,” said Woodcock. “We have concluded that the known and potential benefits of the Janssen COVID-19 vaccine outweigh the known and potential risks in those aged 18 and over.”

During a press conference on the announcement, Woodcock said health care providers should review revised FDA datasheets on the vaccine, which include details about rare blood clots. People with questions about the vaccine should discuss them with a health care provider, she said.

J & J’s Covid-19 vaccine, like the Pfizer and Moderna shots, received emergency approval from the FDA to begin distributing the doses in the United States. An EEA grants conditional clearance based on two months of safety data until another submission for full approval, which normally requires at least six months of data.

On April 13, the FDA and CDC urged states to temporarily discontinue use of J & J’s vaccine “out of caution” after it was reported that six women aged 18 to 48 years had a cerebral combination with low platelets Venous sinus thrombosis developed. CVST occurs when a blood clot forms in the venous sinuses of the brain. It can prevent blood from draining from the brain and can eventually lead to bleeding and other brain damage.

Prior to Friday’s vote, the committee debated whether to recommend against J & J’s use of the vaccine or recommend it to U.S. regulators enforcing a warning label. The committee also considered limiting use of the vaccine based on age or other risk factors.

During the meeting, CDC official Dr. Tom Shimabukuro, there have been no reports of the condition of those who received the Pfizer BioNTech mRNA vaccine. There have been three reports of CVST in patients receiving the Moderna vaccine, he said, even though the patients did not have the low platelet levels seen in the J&J recipients.

Platelets help the body form blood clots to heal wounds. US health officials warned against a treatment such as blood-thinning heparin in patients with low platelets, which could make their condition worse.

Rare blood clots with low platelets occur in women aged 18 to 49 at the rate of 7 per 1 million vaccinations for the J&J shot and 0.9 per 1 million in women aged 50 and over. This is evident from a slide presented at the CDC panel meeting. CDC has confirmed a total of 15 cases of rare blood clots, including 12 women who developed blood clots in the brain. According to the presentation, three women died and seven remained in the hospital.

There are no confirmed cases in men, although officials have stated that they are looking at potential additional cases.

Dr. Michael Streiff, a hematologist at Johns Hopkins University Medical School, said the condition is very rare under normal circumstances. “I can tell you from my experience treating these patients that I’ve just never seen it before,” he told the committee during a presentation on Friday.

Earlier this week, J&J announced that it would restart its vaccine rollout in Europe after regulators there backed the single vaccine by recommending adding a warning to the label. The European Medicines Agency has examined all available evidence, including reports from the United States.

Deep cleaning typically involves scrubbing spaces that you rarely consider. This may mean you don’t even know how to clean them. I recently started cleaning my own oven and after scrubbing down the glass window it still looked pretty dirty. It was then that I realized that the glass with the double pane was dirty on the inside.

At that point, I dismissed it as impossible and gave up on getting used to the misty view through my oven door but a professional house cleaner Vanessa Amaro came to the rescue. This will take you between the glass door of an oven to restore your clear view of the cooking.

Start at the bottom of your oven

First things first: do you have a grill or drawer at the bottom of your oven? If you can pull out the bottom part, you have a drawer. If the door folds down like your oven, you have a grill. Let’s start with the ovens with a lower drawer.

Open the lower drawer

In order to get into the two panes of the glass door of your stove, you will need to remove the lower drawer. Under the oven door, you will see a narrow opening that runs along the bottom edge of the door. Vanessa Amaro suggests using a store-bought dust brush that is long and relatively thin. You can also wrap a washcloth around a yardstick with elastic bands to hold it in place.

If you have a broiler, remove the oven door

If you have a grill and not a drawer at the bottom of your oven, you’ll need to remove the door to get in between the window pane. It sounds like a job for a professional (you could hire someone), but doing it yourself isn’t as scary as it sounds. The oven door hinges are designed so that the door can be easily removed, and they usually snap back into place. The DIY site The Art of Doing Stuff is there detailed instructions to remove the oven door.

Insert your screwdriver into the back of the tab and slide it forward. This will unlock the hinge. Do it on both hinges of the oven door.

Now close the oven door to the point where it will no longer close and then lift it straight up. The door should pull out very easily.

Depending on the make and model of your oven, you can press on a tab that releases the hinge to remove the door. After removing the door, the two panes can separate so you can clean each side with a sponge and cleaning solution. Otherwise, you can slide your trustworthy yardstick between the glass with a cleaning cloth.

If there is a metal cover over the opening at the bottom of the oven door, simply remove the screws (put them in a safe place to reinstall later) and follow the same cleaning instructions. You can see professionals demonstrate it at General Electric’s YouTube instructional video.

Cleaning between the glass of the oven isn’t the funnest job, but hopefully you’ll find that a little discomfort goes a long way.
