Promoted Deal: Unicorn Jerky CBD Candy | $19 | Sunday Scaries | Promo Code CHILLOUT

G/O Media may get a commission

I’ve been taking Sunday Scaries CBD on the reg for several months now, and I have to say, of all their offerings, Unicorn Jerky is my favorite. On top of putting a smile on my face every time I see the packaging, it tastes pretty great and doesn’t take long to get the chill vibes flowing. Flavor-wise, it reminds me of Sour Punch Straws, only without the sour, if that makes sense. Sugary and sweet without overwhelming your palette, Unicorn Jerky is the way to go if you prefer your cannabinoids delicious. The only downside is you’ll want to eat more than one. For a limited time only, try it out for yourself at a 30% discount on us, using the promo code CHILLOUT.

In addition to stimulating your tastebuds, you can’t talk about Sunday Scaries’ Unicorn Jerky without mentioning its contributions to The Trevor Project, a non-profit committed to crisis intervention and suicide prevention for at-risk LGBTQ youth. As a bisexual person myself, this is one charity organization I can get behind. For pack of the bright and colorful full spectrum CBD-infused edible you buy, Sunday Scaries donates a dollar to the cause. While that might not sound like much, a little bit goes a long way, especially with savings this deep.

Chow down, relax, and feel good doing it while supplies last.

If you’re thinking about organizing your work from home station, a standing desk converter might be a perfect and easy way to upgrade. This webcam has a 1080P HD resolution for a clear picture. So whether you need a cam for streaming or for using on Zoom, Skype, Microsoft Teams,or other video call services, this should have you covered.

If you want to change the way a room looks drastically with one shift, painting it in a fresh new color is always an option. But I mean… that takes some work.

Mpow M30 Earbuds | $20 | Amazon | Clip Coupon & Use Code V9BD6RFWMpow M30 Earbuds | $20 | Amazon | Clip Coupon & Use Code V9BD6RFWImage: Sheiah Villari

I’ve tested Mpow products in the past and was always pleasantly surprised at the value to price ratio. They’re quality without breaking the bank. A real treat from the company is their M30 Earbuds. They’re just $20 when you clip the coupon and use the code V9BD6RFW. This discount will appear once you start the checkout process. This code expires Sunday, and it only works on the black color.

$20 is a great price for an extra set of earbuds. If you’re running errands or just running and you don’t want to take your most expensive buds on the go, these are for you. Quick to pair and easy to bounce between tunes and calls. The M30’s are noise-canceling, so ideal for travel, and just because they are small and fit snuggly doesn’t mean there’s no power in them. Little buds, big bass. They’re sweat-proof, so sport it up and fear not about ruining them. You’ll get about 5 hours off of one charge but 25 hours with the charging case. The only blip is if you’re an Android user, you have to adjust the volume on your phone to “maximum” first to get the highest volume out of these. Other than that, it’s a solid audio device at a solid price.

Let’s not get all fancy here. A simple deal deserves a simple write-up. You can grab Aukey’s XXL gaming mouse pad for $20, which is 50% off. It’s a big mouse pad. Big enough to hold both your keyboard and mouse. We’re talking 35.4×15.75. It’s non-slip. It’s spill-resistant. It’s got stitched edges. My favorites product detail: “No big logo or graphic across the pad to distract you during intensive gaming sessions.” It is true that I frequently am distracted by the big logo on my mouse pad when playing video games. I would say it is the #1 thing that has stopped me from being a pro gamer. If you need a mouse pad, it’s a big mouse pad. Let’s not overcomplicate things.

Hello, gamers. For a short time, you can grab an AUKEY KM-G12 RGB Mechanical Keyboard for a low $39 with the code GFP66GNY. It’s 30% off the original list price of $55, so you’ll be saving a couple of bucks. One of our former writers, Elizabeth Henges, describes the keyboard below:

The KM-G12 keyboard itself feels like an absolute tank, too. I feel like it’d last for years and quite a few bad accidents before finally giving out. But it’s important to note that also like a tank, Aukey’s KM-G12 is LOUD. People joke about how loud mechanical keyboards are, but the secret is in the switches. My normal, non-Aukey keyboard uses Cherry MX Brown switches, which are known for being the quietest of the tactile bunch. This one here uses Aukey’s proprietary Blue switches, best compared to Cherry’s MX Blues which are both revered and reviled for their “audible click,” depending on who you ask.

And yes, it’s quite audible indeed. I used the Aukey keyboard for three days throughout my normal workflow (which, of course, involved a lot of typing), and I got used to the loud clicking faster than I thought I would. Discord’s new Noise Suppression mode also managed to cut the clicking out when I was speaking to people on voice chat, which is also good. So, provided you aren’t annoying a roommate or loved one by typing loudly five feet away from them, it’s not too bad.

Nothing else to say, really! Grab it before it’s gone!

You can snag the newest iPad Air (4th Generation) at Amazon right now and save $40 off any color of the 64GB edition. Looking for even more storage? You’ll get bigger savings on the 256GB edition, which is as much as $70 off in certain colors right now. Luckily, the color options that aren’t $679 right now only cost a dollar more, so there’s plenty of savings to go around.

All indications are that the new iPad Air is the best value among all of Apple’s big slates. It shares a lot in common with the bigger, more powerful, much more expensive iPad Pro. It’s only missing extra cameras and Face ID (but the fingerprint reader is back to help), plus the display isn’t as bright (600 nits vs 500) or smooth (120Hz vs 60Hz).

But it has the powerful Apple A14 Bionic chipset and picks up Apple Pencil support, making this a much sweeter option for casual artists and multimedia buffs. And it comes in those fun colors, too. Apple’s Magic Keyboard attachment is also $100 off at Amazon right now, in case you want to add physical keys and a trackpad to create a true laptop-like experience.

In his roundup of the best VPNs at Gizmodo, Andrew Couts called NordVPN “fast and easy to use,” citing accessibility and affordability as reasons to subscribe. Though it’s almost always marked down from its $287 list price, the 2-year plan is nonetheless the cheapest option to get started with the service and continue using it long-term. For a limited time only, though, it’s not only 68% off, bringing your total to just $89 for 730 days, but it also comes with an extra 1-month, 1-year, or 2-year plan, randomly applied by the Nordic gods at checkout, through the end of March.

Couts says in his abbreviated review:

No matter what you pay, you’ll get access to more than 5,400 servers in more than 60 countries, a bunch of features you may or may not want, and, because the company is based in Panama, assurances that your data—or lack of data, as the case may be—is outside of U.S. and European jurisdictions. Like every other VPN on this list, NordVPN claims to have a “strict no-logs policy,” so most of your data isn’t collected, the company says. It does still collect your email address, payment information, and the timestamp of the last time you launched the VPN.

But NordVPN isn’t without its downsides. “…some researchers have found that it sends your email address and Google Ad ID to a marketing company when you register through the Android app and contains some trackers,” Couts explained. “Another downside is that some of NordVPN’s servers are rented, which means another company you need to trust is in the mix. And yes, one of those servers got hacked in 2018.”

Still, if you want one of the most reliable VPN clients, with the budget to support its robust infrastructure, you can’t go wrong with NordVPN. Plus, with availability on virtually every platform imaginable—from macOS to Android TV—this private networking tool is equal parts ubiquitous and acclaimed. Endorsed by PCMag, Wired, CNET, Business Insider, and more, it may be time to board the Nord train if you’re somehow unwedded to a VPN already.

Grab a friend! It Takes Two is out and it’s an excellent co-op experience. The latest from Josef Fares and the team at Hazelight is a platforming rom-com that’s wickedly clever. Every level introduces inventive new mechanics that keep the game fresh. It’s a rare co-op game where both players always have something to do and player two isn’t just a sidekick. Considering how many delays are happening this year, it could end up being one of the year’s top games. If that all sounds appealing, you can grab the PC or Xbox version of the game for $36 at Newegg. Enter the code EMCETSX24 at checkout and you’ll get a digital code for the game. Redeem the PC version on Origin and the Xbox version on Xbox One or Series X/S. The game does not come with a friend, so you will need to find that yourself.

Here’s a quick PSA: you won’t be able to upgrade the Xbox One version if you’re thinking of getting a Series X later. Here’s some exciting news for kids and cool adults alike: Best Buy currently has a sale on Star Wars LEGO sets. You can grab select sets 20% off and there’s plenty to browse through. The vehicle sets stand out the most here. You can grab a Sith TIE Fighter for $64, a Knights of Ren transport ship for $59, or Anakin’s Jedi Interceptor for $24. That’s just the tip of the iceberg, or whatever the equivalent of icebergs are in space. Asteroid? In my humble opinion, it’s a good time to build a LEGO set. Not a lot else going on right? Great excuse to put some blocks together and then say “zooooom” as you pretend to fly the finished product around your house.

Recently, I was talking to some friends about Capcom. Without thinking, I implied that the company really just made Resident Evil games at this point. Then I stopped and thought about that statement for more than two seconds and thought “What am I talking about?” Capcom is thriving right now with a diverse array of excellent franchises. You can see that on full display in this publisher sale over at Newegg where you can get Xbox copies of recent Capcom hits on sale. Naturally, a bunch of Resident Evil games are discounted including Resident Evil 3 for $18. But there’s much more! The fantastic Devil May Cry V is $18. Marvel Vs. ‘Tis the season to upgrade your home gaming setup. With tech deals going left and right, you’ll find no shortage of options when it comes to things like monitors. Here’s another one to add on to your list of possible purchases. The 27″ LG UltraGear gaming monitor is on sale at BuyDig. You can get the monitor and an Xbox controller for $347, which is a wild deal.

To make this work, you’ll need to add both the monitor and an Xbox controller to your cart. Red, white, take your pick. For some reason, the monitor itself is only $3 off on its own. But as soon as you add the controller, the price drops and you get both for $347. This monitor usually drops to around that price, so the extra controller is certainly a perk.

Here’s a quick rundown of what you’re getting with this: a 2560 x 1440 display, 144Hz refresh rate, 1 ms of response time, and G-Sync technology to help cut down on screen tear. For gamers who don’t care too much about pushing their games to the ends of the Earth with ungodly resolutions ad refresh rates, the UltraGear is a great balance of the two, making for a solid gaming option.

Whenever I think of cold brew coffee, I’m reminded of this time I went to a theme park with one of my younger brothers and he was craving one and decided to order at the “Starbucks” inside the park. Except, it wasn’t so much a Starbucks as it was a place that just used Starbucks-branded coffee.

Anyway, he ordered a nice, refreshing cold brew and was not expecting them to make this by pouring a cup of steaming hot coffee in a cup and then plopping some ice in it— but that is, in fact, what they did.

As you can probably guess, that is not the way to make a cold brew cup of coffee. The adjective is supposed to be a modifier of that verb, not an afterthought.

One way to do it? You can slowly make it in your fridge with these Starbucks Cold Brew Coffee Pitcher Packs.

But if you’re in want of a cold brew and have limited time to make it in, you could also grab yourself a Ninja Hot and Cold Brew System for $170 so you can have it anytime you want!

You can get it for 26% off right now at Amazon or at Bed Bath & Beyond.

What’s more is that it can also make hot and cold teas, whether you like bagged or looseleaf varieties! And of course, it accommodates a wide variety of brew sizes, from a small cup to a carafe, with a turn of the knob.

Ready for a comfortable night’s sleep? Sleep like a baby on a Buffy Cloud down alternative comforter for as low as $65— that’s the price of one that will fit a twin or twin XL (dorm-size) bed. For most of us, we’ll need to step up to the full/queen Buffy Cloud down alternative comforter for $80.

I’m excited to say that I made the plunge and finally purchased one of these comforters for myself this past winter. I gotta say: “Cloud” is an accurate descriptor. What’s more, I got my full/queen-sized Buffy comforter for just $64 since I’m a Beyond+ member. And now that the weather is warming up, I find that the comforter still feels like the perfect temperature.

The Buffy comforter is made of soft hypoallergenic eucalyptus fibers. And, the fill is sustainably made of recycled materials. It’s so lovely to find an eco-friendly and skin-friendly comforter— but even more lovely to find it for 50% off! Plus, this comforter is made for all seasons, so you can enjoy it now and its lyocell breathable fabric will keep you comfortably cool in the summer as well.

Clean air is such an important thing now more than ever. This is especially true in smaller spaces. Air purifiers are another in a long list of things we didn’t know we needed until the occasion arose. With bars and restaurants snatching them up more people turned to bring them into their own homes too. I have one can tell it makes a huge difference. Right now save $20 on this one from TaoTronics.

Air purifiers can help with a myriad of issues like pollen, dust, and especially pet dander. I live with two very furry dogs and the change in the living room has been substantial. The air seems much crisper. This TaoTronics purifier has three speeds and is whisper quiet. You’ll hardly know it’s there. The 3-stage H13 true HEPA filter is easy to clean and is washable. It has five layers and traps up to 99.97% of particles that are floating about in the air. You’ll get real-time updates on the quality of the air in whatever room you have it in. This helps you better understand what setting you’ll need. It’ll also tell you when the filter needs to be changed so no guessing there also. But you should be replacing filters between three and six months. This is a simple solution to a very common problem. Your family and lungs will thank you for your purchase.

There are several reasons why someone might not be getting the best sleep they can. The easiest culprit to point the finger at and the easiest one to fix is pillows. A good pillow can be the actual foundation of how to build a proper and quality night of snoozing. MorningSave has two SensorPEDIC Fiber Pillows for just $29 to help with that.

These pillows are constructed from quilted nylon and are made with cool breathable material on one side for those who tend to run a little hot in slumber. The other side is all hypoallergenic fleece to keep you toasty in the colder months. Both pillow options have plush fiberfill inside that provides comfort all night long. These are ideal for all types of sleep positions. These pillows are exclusively priced and sold out the last time they went on sale.

Whatever you choose, all three of these will get the job done. They suck and that’s a good thing.

Pricey gym memberships should be a thing of the past. I mean, right now, it’s not safe to be in enclosed spaces with heavy-breathing strangers anyway. And 2021? We’re all about doing what we can from home to help fight this virus.

If your skin is more in need of care than your hair, this Gratiae Ultrox Thermal mask is apparently $600 retail, but is down to just $29. I’m a little skeptical that anybody would ever buy a face mask for $600, though— so let’s not put too much stock in the “95% off” that MorningSave is boasting on this item.

What you can count on? Apparently, this is a self-heating mask, that gets warm once applied and has “a beautiful blend of minerals, clay, flora, oats, and essential oils that react and heat up to draw away dead skin cells, impurities, pore-clogging dirt, and excess sebum.”

So, if you’re looking to give your skin a refreshed, clean feeling while also enjoying some relaxing at-home spa time, this seems like it’s worth a try!

Bellesa has a ton of new merch, and it’s all included in the sale. Each of their sweatshirts is a classic unisex fit but still pre-shrunk. So if you prefer yours to be big and comfy, size up; they’re a poly/cotton blend and with that traditional look, cinched at the cuffs and hem with the collar a bit loose. “Braless & Flawless” is the biggest hit so far. I’m partial to “Hydrate & Masturbate,” a true life lesson to follow every day, in my opinion. There are a few styles to pick from, plus they are sending out really adorable sticker sheets that match with each order.

No, go undercover or under covers. If you need help picking something new, the Diskreet Vibe is the companion piece to the Diskreet Air (one of my favorite toys). This vibe sizes down the tech of the Aurora and Dea but not the potency. They somehow managed to get all that in just a 3.5” diameter toy. Choose how you want to groove with the multiple sides; there are options. This clitoral vibrator is just as cute as the above Air in its beautiful baby blue clamshell case. Both of these cases look like compacts and fit snuggling in your purse. They’re USB charged and waterproof too.

I’m so proud of you for still wearing a mask; it’s super cool of you. But do you need an upgrade or maybe something a little more heavy-duty? Or have you decided to start layering a KN95 under a cloth mask? Or maybe you just want to put your mind at ease with something a smidge more protective? Whatever your reason, you can grab a 40-pack of KN95 masks over at SideDeal for just $18 right now.

These are industry-standard, which means they are supposed to filter 95 percent of particles. That is just about as good as you can get. So the mask obviously doesn’t completely eliminate the risk of catching or spreading something, but if you wear it correctly, it still drastically reduces the likelihood of doing so. These are also great if you’ve got severe allergies or asthma and protect against pollen, dander, and whatnot. The KN95 mask isn’t made for clinical environments (not that you’re planning to perform surgery with these), but they will protect you and others in everyday environments against what is currently out there. Not all heroes wear capes, but they do wear masks. So, thank you for doing your part!

These masks have the metal bridge for keeping your mask snug, and the masks are wrapped up in eight packets containing five masks each, so you can keep a pack in your car, at your door, in your garage, in your purse— wherever you might need to keep some on hand.

If you’ve read a few of our pieces on SideDeal before and you like what you’ve seen, they offer a $5 monthly fee to get free shipping on all of your orders, no matter how many. That membership also gets you free shipping at Meh, Mediocritee, and MorningSave. Otherwise, shipping is $8 per order.

Cariuma is a company definitely making waves in the sustainability space. They’re dedicated to fighting against wasteful practices that are rampant in the fashion industry. David and Fernando, the founders, wanted to bring all that to the sneaker game and to create thoughtfully made shoes with cool comfort. Good-looking kicks are consciously created with classic styles. The company has designed some spring hues that have classic casual written all over them.

They all run under $100. The low tops come in many shades, but green, yellow, and rose really give off that Spring has sprung vibe. Luckily, Ninebot is currently taking 24% off of its Segway kids bike at Amazon, knocking the price down to $212 in both blue and red. The Criterion Collection is the gold standard for film snobs and movie lovers the world over. But for a good reason. These boxes and bundles are beautifully designed and provide supplementary material to dig deeper into your favorite pieces of cinema. Amazon is having a huge sale on the majority of the collection.

This year marks the 25th anniversary of Tomb Raider and Square Enix is celebrating. There’s no new Lara Croft game or anything. Instead, the big ticket item this year is an official Tomb Raider cookbook. You know, the franchise that is about cooking and food. According to the product description, the book features 40 recipes from locations she’s visited over the course of the series. The book is also part travel guide and talks about each location in greater depths. Frankly, why not? I own the WWE Cookbook and it’s far less cultured than this. If you want to cook with Lara, you can save 10% when you pre-order a copy at Amazon, taking this down to $27. Let me know how it is.

Streaming is a funny thing. On the one hand, you have nearly any show you could wish for at your fingertips, ready for you to binge after logging off for the weekend. On the other hand, those shows are fragmented across so many apps and services that it’s hard to track down where to find anything, let alone how to pay for it all. Luckily, free trials exist to let you blitz through your most anticipated or beloved shows while taking the service out for a spin, all without having to commit. By the end of it, maybe you’ll have found a new catalog of shows and movies to sink your teeth into, or maybe you’ll just be grateful for the time you spent together.

Right now, you can get a month of Paramount+ (formerly CBS All Access) for free through Amazon. After your first month, it’ll cost $6, but you can always cancel ahead of time if it’s not your jam, and that’s a problem for future you, anyways.

In the meantime, you’ll get access to content from CBS, Comedy Central, BET, Nickelodeon, and MTV. You can catch old favorites like (pardon me for dating myself) Clone High and Daria, Hey Arnold!, Key & Peele, and Rugrats. There’s also plenty of originals to choose from, too, like Star Trek: Picard, Kamp Koral, and The Good Fight.

In the lead-up to the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S launches back in November of last year, I couldn’t go on Twitter without seeing mentions of LG’s CX Series TVs from the people I follow. IGN’s Wesley DeBlanc, PCMag and Tom’s Guide writer Tony Polanco, and even Bugsnax co-creator Philip Tibotoski chimed in at one point or another about their latest pickups. Seemingly the de facto TV for next-gen gaming, the LG CX Series has gone on sale countless times during and in the days since Prime Day/Black Friday/Cyber Monday. This time, however, not only is the 77″ model marked down to $3,297, but it also comes with a $400 Visa gift card and a 2-year warranty that includes burn-in coverage out of the box. So you can rest assured your purchase is protected in the years to come.

The LG CX Series is a 4K OLED TV, complete with Dolby Vision, HDR10, and HLG high dynamic range formats as well as a smooth 120Hz native refresh rate. For gamers, it’s got AMD FreeSync, Nvidia G-Sync, and a sub-1 millisecond response time, perfect for fast-paced action. For everyone else, you can command the TV using Alexa and/or Google Assistant while Apple users can cast content from their phones using AirPlay 2. Its built-in 2.2-channel speaker system features Dolby Atmos, eliminating the need for a discrete soundbar. Of course, you can always tack one on, or set up a true surround sound home theater system by plugging it into the HDMI 2 eARC port.

This type of bargain doesn’t crop up every day, so if you’re already in the market for a new set, Gizmodo’s Sam Rutherford called this one, “the best home tech upgrade I’ve ever made.” High praise from a trusted source.

NASA Industrial LEO Vacation spot Challenge for Personal House Stations

NASA Industrial LEO Vacation spot Challenge for Personal House Stations

SpaceX’s crew Dragon Endeavor was docked with the International Space Station on July 1, 2020.

NASA

The National Aeronautics and Space Administration brought astronauts aboard the International Space Station for two decades last year. However, as the floating research laboratory ages, the space agency is turning to private companies to build and deploy new free-flying habitats in near-earth orbit.

Last week NASA presented the Commercial LEO Destinations (CLD) project. In the fourth quarter of 2021, a total of up to four companies are expected to receive up to $ 400 million to begin developing private space stations.

The agency is keen to replicate the success of its Commercial Cargo and Commercial Crew programs. In these programs, three companies took over NASA to send cargo and astronauts to the International Space Station.

NASA’s LEO commercial director Phil McAlister said he views the domain of low-earth orbit as three main activities: “cargo transportation, crew transportation, and destinations.” NASA has transferred responsibility for the two earlier activities to private companies. The agency pays SpaceX and Northrop Grumman to ship cargo spacecraft to the ISS and SpaceX and Boeing to launch astronauts. McAlister stressed that NASA had previously taken full ownership of all three activities.

“If it stayed that way, our near-earth orbit efforts would always be limited by the size of NASA’s budget,” McAlister said in a briefing Tuesday. “By bringing the private sector into these areas and into these areas as a supplier and user, you expand the pot and you have more people in low orbit.”

NASA will open the International Space Station to tourists with the first mission in 2020.

NASA’s potential cost savings as a space station user, rather than as an owner and operator, is a major motivator for the CLD program. The International Space Station costs NASA about $ 4 billion a year to operate. In addition, it cost a total of $ 150 billion to develop and build the ISS, with NASA taking most of that bill, while Russia, Europe, Japan, and Canada each contributed.

NASA estimated last year that the commercial crew program alone saved the agency between $ 20 billion and $ 30 billion while funding the development of two, not just one, spacecraft. While Boeing has not yet completed development testing and has suffered a prolonged setback after the Starliner capsule’s initial launch failed due to multiple anomalies in December 2019, SpaceX’s Crew Dragon spacecraft is now operationally flying NASA astronauts.

Another motivator for starting the CLD program is the aging hardware of the ISS, as much of the space station’s core structures were made in the 1990s and the final print structure was added in 2011. Last year Russian cosmonauts were working to fix a small air leak in a room in a station module.

“The ISS is an amazing system, but unfortunately it won’t last forever,” said McAlister. “An unrecoverable anomaly can occur at any time.”

NASA sees the CLD program as a way to get multiple companies to develop and build new habitats over the next few years so that the agency has an overlap period before the ISS retires. McAlister noted that in addition to the CLD program, NASA awarded space specialist Axiom Space a $ 140 million contract to build modules to expand the ISS. When the ISS retires, Axiom plans to take its modules down and convert them into a free-flying space station.

“We’re making progress there and we’re really excited about it,” said McAlister. “We want to have competition in the utility sector, so that’s what we do [CLD]. It has always been part of our plan to have both modules installed and free leaflets. “

An Axiom spokesman said in a statement to CNBC that the company “broadly supports NASA’s vision of a multifaceted economy in LEO”.

“We are raising private funding to design and develop our world’s first commercial target to demonstrate that true commercial leadership can advance the LEO economy. Building the Axiom Station as an extension of the International Space Station will expand the work that at station in the near future and at best allow a timely and seamless transition when the ISS reaches the end of its life, “said Axiom.

A NASA list of organizations registered for the briefing revealed a wide variety of aerospace companies including: Airbus US, Blue Origin, Boeing, Collins Aerospace, Firefly Aerospace, General Dynamics, Ispace, Lockheed Martin, Moog, Nanoracks , Northrop Grumman, Raytheon, Redwire Space, RUAG Space, Sierra Nevada Corporation, SpaceX, Virgin Galactic, Virgin Orbit, Voyager Space Holdings, and York Space Systems.

One of these companies has already announced that it will soon announce its plan for a free-flying space station. Sierra Nevada Corporation (SNC) announced that it will host a virtual press conference on March 31st to unveil the design of the “SNC Space Station”.

NASA will release a final announcement for CLD proposals in May. The first phase of the promotional awards is expected between October and December. NASA’s Johnson Space Center will manage the CLD program through its commercial LEO development office.

The US is in a fragile place as Covid circumstances are rising alongside vaccinations, specialists warn

Revelers flock to the beach to celebrate the spring break while coronavirus disease (COVID-19) broke out in Miami Beach, Florida, United States on March 6, 2021.

Marco Bello | Reuters

With the possibility of summer barbecues in a few months’ time and the promise of widespread supplies of Covid-19 vaccines in the US by the end of May, many Americans may feel that the nation has finally turned the pandemic around.

But the country is not there for leading infectious disease experts.

“When I am often asked: ‘Are we going to turn the corner?’ My answer is more like, “We’re on the corner,” said Dr. Anthony Fauci, Chief Medical Officer of the White House, during a press conference on Wednesday.

Before the US can achieve its long-awaited goal – a semblance of normality before the pandemic – it needs to get more vaccines up its arms, infectious disease experts tell CNBC. As the US continues to report new daily vaccination records, the number of new cases is growing again.

According to a CNBC analysis of data compiled by Johns Hopkins University, the US is seeing a weekly average of 61,821 new Covid-19 cases per day, up 12% from the previous week. Daily cases now grow at least 5% in 27 states and DC

Coronavirus hospital stays are also starting to recover. The U.S. reported an average of 7,790 Covid-19 hospital admissions in seven days on Thursday, up 2.6% from the previous week. This is based on data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

“We are in a delicate and difficult transition phase,” said Dr. William Schaffner, epidemiologist and professor of preventive medicine at Vanderbilt University, told CNBC. “We’re fine, but we’re not there yet.”

Do not fiddle with the ball

The surge in infections coincides with an accelerated vaccination campaign that is gradually reaching more people.

The U.S. currently administers an average of 2.6 million shots a day, and more than a third of American adults have received at least one dose, according to the latest figures from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Almost half of people aged 65 and over have all of the necessary recordings, CDC data shows. However, only 19.4% of the adult population are considered fully vaccinated, which is necessary to achieve the high level of protection offered by current Pfizer, Moderna and Johnson & Johnson vaccines.

While most states announced plans to open up vaccination eligibility to all adults ahead of President Joe Biden’s May 1 deadline, only six have chosen to offer vaccinations across the board, according to the latest data from the New York Times.

“We’re on the proverbial 10-yard line,” said Schaffner. “We’re going to get the ball over and have a touchdown, but not fumble the ball on the 10-yard line.”

Some states are largely reopening their economies while dropping mask mandates too soon, Schaffner added. The return of travelers in the spring break using cheap flights and hotels has further increased the risk of further infections.

“All of these things could mean that in cases before the vaccinations really reduce transmission, there is another increase,” Schaffner said. “We run the risk – and I mean the risk – of seeing another surge within the next two months.”

Variants threaten

Another problem is the spread of highly infectious coronavirus variants, particularly the variant first identified in the UK called B.1.1.7., Infectious disease experts told CNBC. The CDC is carefully tracking another variant found in New York City called B.1.526, which is also considered more transmissible compared to previous strains, said agency director Dr. Rochelle Walensky, on Wednesday.

A more transmissible virus could lead to more infections and inevitably hospitalizations and deaths, even if the most at risk are vaccinated against the disease, experts warn, making the race to vaccinate more people crucial.

“The variants are really quite a key to the response,” said Dr. Angela Hewlett, professor of infectious diseases at the University of Nebraska Medical Center, saying that the vaccines should continue to provide protection.

“We just need to vaccinate more of our population to really stamp out this thing,” said Hewlett.

Increased travel could aid the spread of B.1.1.7, which is a particular problem in Florida, where visitors outside of the state during the spring break could bring the virus back to their local communities, said Cindy Prins, an epidemiologist at the University of Florida.

According to the latest CDC data, Florida has identified more than 1,000 coronavirus cases with variant B.1.1.7, the most so far in any state.

“There is no doubt that there are a lot of people who have come from outside the state. That happens every year for the spring break,” said Prins. “And then the concern is what will be brought back into their own state. Will they bring the variant back?”

Almost six in ten (59%) small business owners said they used their own money in the past year to keep their businesses alive as they faced widespread closings due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Small business owners are increasingly concerned about the profitability of their business, and nearly four in ten (38%) are concerned that they are, according to a study conducted exclusively for Yahoo Finance UK by one of Europe’s largest small business lenders – iwoca do this have to close this year.

A separate survey conducted over the same period asked accountants representing over 23,000 small businesses across the UK to find out what their clients should be focusing on in 2021.

It turned out that the accountants believe that the first priority for companies should be to make sure they are well funded.

The second most cited priority, which logically seems to follow the first, was making sure bills were paid, with 48% of respondents saying so.

Almost a third (31%) said diversifying product offerings would be critical for businesses in the coming year, while 28% said using government systems would be key to survival.

More than a quarter (26%) said the move to online should be a focus for many companies in the coming fiscal year.

When SMB owners were asked the same question, the majority (60%) said they will focus on making sure they are well funded in 2021. Still, four in ten (43%) expect to have to use their own money to fund their business this year.

Colin Goldstein, iwoca’s Commercial Growth Director, said, “Using your own money to fund your business is clearly unsustainable for most people.

“The overall message from both accountants and our survey results is that entrepreneurs need to make sure they are financially well prepared for the difficult year ahead. As we continue to have national restrictions, it is important that SMEs have access to business credit when diving into the own pockets is simply not an option. “

The story goes on

“While it seems like an easy path to go, it’s unlikely to be most relevant to funding the business. Cash flow for small businesses has always been a challenge, and 2020 has the short cash reserves that most small businesses operate under , both highlighted and sharpened.

Barlow notes that understanding and optimizing working capital when cash is limited is an important business skill – knowing where cash is tied up and how it can be converted into actual funds in the bank.

“Whether this is paid for faster by speaking to customers regularly or understanding which stocks are moving slowly and leading less of them, working capital management can really help a company during an unprofitable (or pandemic) phase,” he continued.

“All businesses, large and small, need to have a clear view of cash flow in order to be able to make informed decisions today and help themselves tomorrow. Cash flow forecasts are essential to understand future cash needs and any gaps, to plan early and to be able to speak to the right people. “

Do you remember when 2021 was the year things should get better? Sorry folks who live in a handful of eastern states –The cicadas are coming. If you have tortured yourself by looking for pictures for the insects, you already know that they are not easy on the eyes. But are they dangerous? Either way, you probably want to keep them as far from you and your home as possible. Here you find out how this works.

What’s up with cicadas in 2021?

We expect that this spring Formation of Brood X cicadas in part (or in all) of the following states::

  • Delaware
  • Georgia
  • Illinois
  • Indiana
  • Kentucky
  • Maryland
  • Michigan
  • New Jersey
  • new York
  • North Carolina
  • Ohio
  • Pennsylvania
  • Tennessee
  • Virginia
  • West Virginia
  • Washington, DC

This particular brood has been (seriously) underground for 17 years, waiting for this moment. I will let Beth Skwarecki, Senior Health Editor at Lifehacker take it from here:

Periodic cicadas (Magicicada Species) live as larvae for 13 or 17 years, depending on the species. When it’s time for them to produce the next generation, they emerge, shed, mate, and die within a few angry weeks. When it’s their year, the trees in an area are covered in giant beetles. This whole phenomenon is either gross or fascinating depending on who you ask. (Okay, maybe it’s a bit of both.) This year’s surfacing hasn’t started yet, but it is expected to start next month when the ground warms up.

Um, no thanks.

Are cicadas dangerous?

Sure, they’re super gross, but are cicadas actually dangerous? For the most part, they are not and are considered “bothersome pests” – although they can cause damage according to young trees Pest World. Here is some more background information from the bug experts:

They do not bite or sting and generally do not pose a health threat to humans. In general, most of the symptoms associated with periodic cicadas are related to their noisy behavior, as well as their dander. Cicadas are known as the loudest insect in the United States because their “singing” can be heard up to half a mile away.

And while cicadas often fly into a house through an open window or door, they cannot breed indoors. “Therefore an infestation in houses is unlikely.” after Orkin.

How to get rid of cicadas

These fools have been hiding underground for 17 years and come in literal swarms – if you live on their way they’ll be around. During their peak, the best / only way to avoid them is to stay indoors Pest World explained.

What you need to actively get rid of are the scales from cicada skins that can build up in your yard, especially around tree trunks. So you might want to grab a rake or shovel and take care of it.

Protect plants

If you are concerned about the plants and saplings in your garden, there are ways to protect them – and none of them contain pesticides or other chemicals. Here are some tips Courtesy of Orkin::

  • By hand: Hand-pick adults and nymphs from plants when they are found in sufficient numbers.
  • Garden hose: Pushing cicadas off plants by spraying water with a garden hose.
  • Foil & Barrier Tape: Wrap tree trunks and large bushes with foil or tape (barrier tape) to catch cicadas trying to move plants up to feed or lay eggs.
  • Netting: Protect young or valuable plants by covering them with nets.

Happy Spring!

Get into the Lawsuit Towards Apple’s Horrible MacBook Keyboards

A California judge has upheld a class action lawsuit against Apple for the damage-prone butterfly keyboard design in MacBook, MacBook Air, and MacBook Pro models manufactured between 2015 and 2019. In the case, claims Apple sold the fragile keyboards despite numerous complaints and knowingly sold repair requests for broken, unresponsive keyboards – and while you can’t join the suit just yet, you can do so now to clear the case against the company.

According to the MacBook Pro Keyboard Litigation websiteThe class action lawsuit pertains to “anyone who has purchased a 2015-2017 Apple MacBook in California, New York, Florida, Illinois, New Jersey, Washington, or Michigan, except for resale 2016 Apple MacBook Pro -2019 (except the 16 [inch] MacBook Pro (released November 2019) or an Apple MacBook Air from one of the model years 2018-2019. ”

The legal team is seeking nationwide certification that would expand the class action lawsuit to all U.S. customers who purchased any of the MacBook models listed in the lawsuit. This is good news for MacBook or MacBook Pro owners struggling with faulty butterfly keyboards. It is important to note, however, that this decision merely means that the lawsuit can proceed. The judge has not ruled in any way, nor are there settlements or solutions.

However, if you are having issues with the butterfly keyboard, feel free to submit your feedback via a survey on the site. The survey is open to all US customers who have purchased a MacBook or MacBook Pro, even if they are not specifically affected by the class action lawsuit. You can fill out a single form if you’ve purchased multiple MacBooks or MacBook Pros and don’t need to provide proof of purchase (although the questionnaire will ask if you have one).

Note that completing the survey does not mean that you are part of the class action lawsuit or represented by Girard Sharp’s attorneys, nor that you will receive any compensation based on the outcome of the lawsuit. However, filling out the form can help bolster the case against Apple and its faulty butterfly keyboard and expand the class action lawsuit to more customers.

CEO Jack Dorsey, different high executives

CEO Jack Dorsey, different high executives

Jack Dorsey, CEO of Twitter, testifies during a video hearing held by subcommittees of the US House of Representatives’ Energy and Trade Committee on “The Role of Social Media in Promoting Extremism and Misinformation” on March 25, 2021 in Washington .

CNBC

After setting ambitious user growth and revenue targets last month, Twitter is preparing for what may be the most transformative phase ever.

After CEO Jack Dorsey’s leadership was scrutinized by activist investors last year, Twitter pushed ahead with the development of new features, made numerous changes, and prepared for even more. This change is due to the fact that the company dates back to the time of former President Donald Trump, who was finally retired from service in January.

On the way to a new phase, Twitter leads this in 2021.

Jack Dorsey: Founder and CEO

Despite being CEO, Dorsey gets checked out a lot from Twitter. Accuse his dual role as CEO of Square, his tendency to take off for weeks at meditation retreats, his talk of moving to Africa, and his weird looks that include tattoos, piercings and a magical beard. A recent example came when the platform decided to permanently ban Donald Trump – Dorsey was reportedly on vacation on an island in French Polynesia when the fateful decision was made.

People on Twitter say Dorsey is far from checked out. He is known for empowering and dealing with his lieutenants on important issues, as well as handling minor details that are normally not expected of a CEO, such as writing his own comments before testifying in front of Congress .

Dorsey helped invent Twitter in 2006 when he was one of the few employees at Obvious Corporation, the company that preceded him. Dorsey was the original CEO of Twitter but was ousted from office in 2008 and returned to Twitter as interim CEO in June 2015. A few months later, he was appointed permanent CEO.

The company has seen its ups and downs since its return, but is generally on the upside. The company’s share price has increased more than 70% since June 2015, and annual sales increased nearly 68% from $ 2.22 billion in 2015 to $ 3.72 billion in 2020.

Dorsey’s leadership came under fire in early 2020 when activist hedge fund Elliott Management launched a campaign to remove him as CEO. The challenge was solved when Twitter signed a deal with Elliott Management and Silver Lake and gave each investment firm a seat on the board.

Since then, Twitter has pushed its product development, specifically introducing ephemeral fleets in 2020 and testing a virtual audio room feature called Spaces.

More importantly, last month the company announced ambitious goals to double its revenue to at least $ 7.5 billion and reach 315 million monetizable daily active users (mDAUs) by the end of 2023.

Ned Segal: CFO

Twitter’s chief financial officer, Ned Segal

John Chiala | CNBC

Unlike many CFOs, Segal is an active leader of the company and one of its most outspoken executives. Segal is a frequent participant in all-hands meetings and is one of the company’s top communicators externally, both on his Twitter account and at revenue and other corporate events.

Prior to Twitter, Segal was senior vice president of finance for Intuit’s small group of companies and CFO at RPX, a patent risk management services company. This experience with finance, technology, and the combination of the two makes him an ideal tech CFO.

Segal may have done best in 2020 and played a pivotal role in brokering the deal with Elliott Management, said a former employee.

Vijaya Gadde: Head of Law, Politics and Trust

Vijaya Gadde

Source: Twitter

As the highest ranking woman on Twitter, Gadde is responsible for some of the company’s toughest jobs, including legal matters and anything related to public order, trust and safety on the platform. That said, if the company has problems with harassment, misinformation, or Washington, Gadde’s staff will take care of it.

Gadde is said to be loathe public speaking, but has gained more weight in the past year. In particular, Gadde has increased the use of her Twitter account to publicize and explain the company’s public policy decisions.

She played a pivotal role in deciding what to do with former President Donald Trump’s report after the January 6 riot in the U.S. Capitol. The company eventually decided to permanently ban Trump.

Former employees say Gadde doesn’t have a final word on what the company decides to do about its policies. Dorsey retains that power. But 99% of the time, Dorsey follows Gadde’s recommendations, former employees said.

Parag Agrawal: Chief Technology Officer

Agrawal is one of Twitter’s top tech managers. According to his bio, he is responsible for the strategy that includes artificial intelligence and machine learning.

Agrawal leads the Bluesky project, an independent initiative to create an open standard for social media. This means creating technologies and protocols that allow content posted on a social media service to work across multiple social networks, much like the way email can be read from any email service.

Bluesky is a priority and visionary project for Dorsey, former employees said. So he entrusted Agrawal with his leadership.

Mike Montano: Technical Director

In recent years, Twitter has revised its technical infrastructure to be able to create new products faster. Montano, the company’s technical director, was instrumental in this overhaul. The company has recognized the modernization of its technical infrastructure as a catalyst for the creation of new functions such as fleets and rooms.

Montano is Agrawal’s right-hand man, and now that the overhaul is complete, Montano is focused on hiring more seasoned executives to run Twitter’s fast-growing engineering organization so it can build even faster, a representative told CNBC.

Kayvon Beykpour: Product Guide

As Product Manager, Beykpour is responsible for the strategy and development of Twitter’s functions and products. He came to Twitter through the acquisition of Periscope, an app that allows users to broadcast live streams from their smartphones.

Under the leadership of Beykpour, Twitter produced some of the most revolutionary product changes in company history.

The company launched fleets last year. These are full-screen images and videos that disappear from users’ pages after 24 hours, similar to stories on Snapchat and Facebook’s Instagram. The company has also started testing Spaces publicly. These are virtual audio rooms where users can gather for live conversations, similar to the popular Clubhouse app. Looking ahead, Beykpour announced that Twitter will test subscription features that allow developers to post exclusive content for their paying followers.

Bruce Falck: Sales Product Leader

While Beykpour leads software development for Twitter’s user products, Falck is its counterpart to products used by marketers. His team is tasked with creating the tools that the company’s customers will use to display ads on Twitter and target them to the users of the service.

The Falck team recently redesigned Twitter’s mobile application advertising. MAP is used by marketers to serve direct response ads on Twitter. This is a pool of advertising dollars that the company barely used. The Falck team’s performance will be critical in helping Twitter achieve its goal of doubling its annual revenue by the end of 2023.

Matt Derella: Global VP, Sales and Content Partnerships

While Falck makes the ad products, Derella is the one engaging the customers who use them. As Twitter’s clients lead, Derella leads the company’s client-facing organization, including the sales group and partnership teams. Derella’s responsibilities include developing Twitter’s sales strategy and increasing sales.

Dantley Davis: Head of Design and Research

Davis leads the team that decides what the company’s products look like and is responsible for the teams that conduct product research to determine what kind of products the company should build next and how consumers use the company’s products, said a employee. Prior to Twitter, Davis headed product design for Facebook’s Stories, News Feed and Video features, according to his biography. He previously worked at Netflix.

Leslie Berland: Chief Marketing Officer and Head of People

The longest-serving person on the executive team after Dorsey is Berland, who leads the company’s marketing and human resources organizations, which include communications, recruiting, and human resources.

Berland often makes the rounds as the company’s spokeswoman and takes part in various conferences. She is also loved by Dorsey, former employees said.

Peiter ‘Mudge’ Zatko: Head of Security

The latest addition to the Twitter leadership team is Zatko, who works with “Mudge”. He was hired in November to redesign and improve the company’s cybersecurity. Mudge is a well-respected hacker in the cybersecurity world, having previously worked at Stripe and on specific projects at Google.

His hiring came after Twitter experienced an unprecedented hack in July when many of its most-visited accounts, including those of then-candidate Joe Biden, Elon Musk and Bill Gates, were taken over by hackers who posted a scam asking for Bitcoin.

This year’s celestial calendar is in full swing, and on Sunday, March 28th, the next visual treat will hit the night sky: the worm moon. This particular moon will be large and easy to spot because it hangs high above the earth, as it always does when it appears annually in March. Here you can find out more about the worm moon and how it gets its earthy name.

Illustration for article titled When to catch this month's 'worm moon' at its highest brilliance

What is a worm moon?

The worm moon is the full moon in March. With a few exceptions, every month has a full moon as not all full moons are created equal. When we are hyper-specific, a real full moon only exists under certain conditions.

Space.com explained:

Only when the moon, earth and sun are perfectly aligned is the moon 100% full, and this alignment creates a lunar eclipse.

G / O Media can receive a commission

Most lay people are unaffected by these cosmological trifles, but the worm moon will meet these criteria on Sunday, March 28th at 2:48 p.m. (CET). When the sun, moon and earth are perfectly coordinated, the moment is called “syzygy”. This is the underlying concept of a true full moon.

Where does the worm moon get its name from?

Indeed, it turns out to be a tough question. According to the Peasant almanacThe name is ascribed to the explorer Captain Jonathan Carver from the 18th century, who coined the term “worm moon” because of the beetle larvae that appeared on the earth when the ground began to thaw in the spring sun. There is also the more general explanation that the moon got its name from worms that became visible in the thawing ground around this time of year.

Other names have been given to this moon over the centuries, most of which are from Native American tribes.

Some of these are listed after the Alamanac below:

The Sugar Moon (Ojibwe) marks the time of year when the sap of sugar maple begins to flow.

The Wind strong moon (Pueblo) refers to the strong wind days that come at this time of year.

The Sore eyes moon (Dakota, Lakota, Assiniboine) highlights the dazzling rays of the sun reflecting off the melting snow of late winter.

How you can see it

The Worm Moon is a three-day treat stretching between Friday March 26th (tonight) and its climax on Sunday March 28th. On Monday the 29 also shows the moon at 99% of its highest brilliance (meaning you probably won, don’t notice the difference).

The best time to see the worm moon is when the moon rises on Sunday (6:48 p.m. Universal Time) when that happens where you live.

Is it a supermoon?

The definition of a supermoon is an imprecise science – and actually just a term that news outlets use somewhat arbitrarily for clickable headlines. However, the term goes back to the astrologer Richard Nolle, who in 1979 coined the term for “either a new or a full moon that occurs when the moon is within 90% of perigee, its closest approach to earth”.

However, there is some uncertainty surrounding the worm moon’s classification as a supermoon, as science writer Jamie Carter explains Forbes::

A supermoon is a full moon that occurs within 90% its closest approach to Earth in a given orbit. This definition specifies four supermoons in 2021, of which the “Super Worm Moon” is the first in a sequence. This weekend’s full moon is just around the corner, however, with other definitions of a supermoon – including of The astrologer Richard Nole (the originator of the term “supermoon”) suggests that the “worm moon” is a little too far away to be called a supermoon.

If this moon isn’t getting quite as close to Earth as some others, you can still find solace in the next flood of moons, all of which are approaching Earth and are therefore considered to be supermoons with little debate.

How NASA explains::

The full moons in April and May are almost the next full moons of the year. The full moon on May 26, 2021 will be a little closer to Earth than the full moon on April 26, 2021, but only by a slim 0.04%!

Even if the worm moon doesn’t technically qualify as a supermoon, those who follow will certainly do.
