This is methods to get that funky scent out of your sheets

When I asked my loyal WhatsApp mother chat how to remove damp odor from bed linen, a mother replied: “WTH. Don’t do things in your sheets that make them smell !? “

What this beacon of perfect cleanliness failed to recognize is that some of us plebes have occasionally come across an unpleasant odor that we have done nothing for. A smell that could generously be described as a “mysterious musty smell” – or even more wildly equated with the smell of elephant balls.

I can safely say that everything my little daughter did in her bed was sleeping, doing secret craft projects with unauthorized glue, and torturing her brothers tickling. But for some reason they still smell like ass. So what should a confused launderer do? I researched this for you (for me) – here are a few ways to restore those funky leaves to their original, odorless sheen.

Give these leaves a vinegar bath

Fill a sink or bucket with hot water. Add a cup of vinegar and a tablespoon of dish soap (yes, dish soap – not detergent) and swirl the leaves in the mixture. Let them soak for at least 30-60 minutes or until the next morning. Wring them out completely before proceeding to the next step.

Wash them with baking soda

In the same way that baking soda in toothpaste helps remove yellow stains from your chompers, it has similar magical properties when applied to leaves. In addition to being a fabric lightener, baking soda is also a natural deodorizer. While your washing machine is filling with water, add 1/2 cup of baking soda. Put the sheets in last and let them soak for 30 minutes before washing.

(Note: Do not add your regular laundry detergent here. It can mask odors with its own odor. You will need to determine later that the sheets themselves are odorless without being affected by your laundry detergent.)

Use the settings for heavy-duty washers

While you may be tempted to run everything on fast cycle to get your laundry done faster or remove annoying odors, consider using the heavy dirt setting and the hottest water on your washing machine.

Consider adding vinegar to the rinse cycle

While this may be redundant if you’ve already done the vinegar soak before washing, can you really be too thorough in trying to get rid of the smell of an animal’s undercarriage? Adding 1/4 to 1/2 cup of white vinegar to your machine during the rinse (or in the fabric softener compartment) can further lift less-than-savory smells and actually make your clothes softer! Who knew

Smell test, then line dry outside

Before you move the leaves to the next stage in the process, make sure they passed an odor test. If the smell still persists, repeat the steps above.

If they smell fresh, give your sheets an extra dose of disinfectant by hanging them out in the sun to dry. As a natural germ and odor inhibitor, sunlight gives these smelly sheets the final boost they need to get them across the finish line.

Make sure they are completely dry

One surefire way to tackle bad smells is to fold and store sheets while they’re still a bit damp. After line drying, let them dry in the dryer for ten minutes to remove any moisture.

Now enjoy sleeping on your fresh, old, but new bed linen.

Jeff Bezos’ Blue Origin loses prime expertise in battle for NASA landers

Jeff Bezos flew into space late last month, but his company has lost top talent since the billionaire space founder returned to Earth.

CNBC has learned that at least 17 key executives and senior engineers have left Blue Origin this summer, with many moving on in the weeks following Bezos’ space flight.

Two of the engineers, Nitin Arora and Lauren Lyons, announced jobs at other space companies this week: Elon Musk’s SpaceX and Firefly Aerospace, respectively.

Others have been quietly updating their LinkedIn pages over the past few weeks.

Any unannounced departure has been confirmed to CNBC by people familiar with the matter. Those departures include: Steve Bennett, Senior Vice President of New Shepard, Jeff Ashby, Head of Mission Assurance (who has retired), Scott Jacobs, Sales Director for National Security, Bob Ess, Senior Director of New Glenn, Tod Byquist , Senior Director of the First Tier of New Glenn, Senior Finance of New Glenn Manager Bill Scammell, Senior Manager of Production Testing Christopher Payne, New Shepard Technical Project Manager Nate Chapman, Senior Propulsion Design Engineer Dave Sanderson, Senior HLS Human Factors Engineer Rachel Forman, BE-4 Controller Lead Integration and Testing Engineer Jack Nelson, New Shepard Lead Avionics Software Engineer Huong Vo, BE-7 Avionics Hardware Engineer Aaron Wang, Propulsion Engineer Rex Gu, and Rocket Engine Development Engineer Gerry Hudak.

Those who announced they were leaving Blue Origin didn’t say why, but frustration with management and a slow, bureaucratic structure are often cited in employee reviews on the Glassdoor job site.

A company spokesperson highlighted Blue Origin’s growth in a statement to CNBC.

“Blue Origin grew by 850 employees in 2020 and we have grown another 650 in 2021 so far. In fact, we’ve almost quadrupled in the past three years. We continue to occupy important management positions in manufacturing. , Quality, engine design and vehicle design. We are building a team and we have great talent, “said the spokesman.

Some of the retired engineers were part of Blue Origin’s astronaut lunar lander program. Bezos’ company lost its bid for a valuable NASA development contract in April when SpaceX was announced as the only award winner under the Space Agency’s Human Landing System program, receiving a $ 2.9 billion contract.

But even though the Government Accountability Office last month rejected Blue Origin’s protest against NASA’s decision, the company has further escalated its fight to participate in the HLS program. Blue Origin first launched a PR offensive against SpaceX’s Starship rocket and then sued NASA in federal court on Monday.

A $ 10,000 bonus

Blue origin

The company has nearly 4,000 employees in the United States, with headquarters in Kent, Washington, near Seattle, and offices in Cape Canaveral, Florida; Van Horn, Texas; and Huntsville, Alabama.

Ten days after Bezos’ space flight on July 20, Blue Origin gave all of its full-time employees an unconditional cash bonus of $ 10,000, several people familiar with the situation told CNBC. None of Blue Origin’s contractors received it. The company confirmed the bonus, with a spokesperson saying it was intended as a “thank you” for reaching the milestone of getting humans into space.

Two people told CNBC that the bonus was perceived internally as an attempt by corporate management to persuade talent to stay in response to the number of employees who filed resignations after the introduction.

A look at Glassdoor reveals a marked difference in employee satisfaction with the leadership of Blue Origin compared to that of other leading space companies. According to Glassdoor, only 15% of Blue Origin employees approve of CEO Bob Smith – up from 91% for Elon Musk at SpaceX or 77% for Tory Bruno at the United Launch Alliance.

The HLS fight

Blue origin

NASA’s Human Landing System program is one of the critical parts of the agency’s plan, known as Artemis, to return US astronauts to the lunar surface.

Last year NASA awarded nearly $ 1 billion in concept development contracts for HLS – with SpaceX receiving $ 135 million, Leidos subsidiary Dynetics $ 253 million, and Blue Origin $ 579 million. The space agency then expected to award two of these three companies for hardware development contracts this year. However, after a lack of requested funding for HLS from Congress, NASA decided to only give SpaceX a contract worth about $ 2.9 billion.

Blue Origin and Dynetics each quickly filed protests with the US Government Accountability Office, which stopped NASA’s work on the program until the protests could be resolved. GAO confirmed NASA’s decision on July 30th. On August 16, Blue Origin went one step further and sued NASA in US federal court.

NASA has paid $ 300 million of its SpaceX contract to date, with payment being made on the day GAO declined to protest. However, the space agency’s work on HLS has again been suspended – this time due to Blue Origin’s lawsuit, according to court records on Thursday – and will not resume until November 1.

Big delays

Billionaire businessman Jeff Bezos will launch with three crew members aboard a New Shepard missile on the world’s first unattended suborbital flight from Blue Origin Launch Site 1 near Van Horn, Texas on July 20, 2021.

Blue Origin has struggled to execute several large programs since Bezos hired Smith as CEO in 2017. Bezos founded the company in 2000 with the aim of “creating a future where millions of people in space live and work to help the earth”. Delays – although common in the industry where the saying “space is tough” is persistently heard – has pushed Bezos’ vision back, highlighted by the departure of Blue Origin’s chief operating officer late last year.

Bezos launched to the edge of space as one of the members of the first crew aboard the reusable New Shepard rocket. Although the company has not disclosed any prices, New Shepard competes with Virgin Galactic in the suborbital space tourism space, with Blue Origin selling nearly $ 100 million worth of tickets for future passenger flights. Although New Shepard’s first crewed launch was a resounding success, Blue Origin leadership had previously expected the rocket to begin human launching by the end of 2017.

Blue origin

Blue Origin’s third major program is its stable rocket engine, led by the BE-4, which will propel its New Glenn rocket. The company previously said its BE-4 engines would be “ready to fly in 2017”.

However, four years later, development issues and a lack of hardware for testing have prevented Blue Origin from shipping its first aero engines, ArsTechnica reported earlier this month. The company is pushing to have two BE-4 engines ready by the end of this year. Notably, BE-4s are important beyond Blue Origin as ULA has signed a contract to use the engines to power their Vulcan rockets and has chosen Blue Origin as their supplier instead of Aerojet Rocketdyne. ULA is pushing to have its first Vulcan rocket ready for launch by the end of this year, and Blue Origin’s BE-4 engines are expected to be one – if not the – last piece to be added before launch.

Bezos has spent most of his time focusing on Amazon over the past two decades, but has continuously sold portions of his stake in the tech giant to fund the development of Blue Origin – valued at $ 1 billion per year or possibly more. Bezos stepped down as Amazon CEO last month, with many in the space industry expecting him to focus more on his space company.

What’s Coming (and Leaving) HBO Max in September 2021?

This month HBO Max announced plans to redesign the utterly terrifying app experienceThat’s good, not only because you’ll be able to overheat your pinned or fast-forward 10 seconds without your Roku loading, but also because there’s no reason to be consistently interesting, the most bang-for-your-buck -Streaming service should be best known for its shitty UX.

I mean, just look at the bounty that comes to church in September. There is another simultaneous theatrical and streaming premiere in Malignant (September 10), a new horror film by James Wan (The Conjuring, et al.) About a woman who is beginning to experience nightmares full of blood and murder who herself than turn out much more than dreams.

Even at 92, Clint Eastwood is still chugging along and making the kind of films your grandpa loves; On September 17th, HBO will release Max Cry Macho, a new film about Mexican immigration based on the 1975 novel. The film has reportedly been in the works for more than 30 years, a fact the trailer makes amazingly clear.

A handful of other new theatrical releases – Mortal Kombat (September 9), Those Who Wish Me Dead (September 30) – are also returning after their premieres with limited engagement. We’re also finally far enough from the wasteland of the 2020 movie release calendar that some really great films from last year are also on the rotation, including Oscar nominees News from all over the world (September 4th) and Promising Young Woman (September 25th).

Then there are the Max Originals – the streamer didn’t get that much exposure for its TV offerings, but some goodies are coming out, including a limited-edition remake of a classic Igmar Bergman film in Scenes From a Marriage (September 12), which portrays the breakup of the union of a couple played by Oscar Isaac and Jessica Chastain (and if those two beautiful human specimens fail, what hope is there for the rest of? US?). There’s also another Adventure Time movie (September 2nd) and the launch of the third season of Doom Patrol (September 23rd), the best superhero show on TV.

Oh, for some reason there is also this children’s animated series about Ellen Degeneres’ early years, Little Ellen (September 13th) that I can only guess went into production well before May 2021.

Here is the list of everything coming (and leaving) HBO Max in September 2021. Titles with (HBO) next to them are available on HBO and HBO Max; everything else is exclusive to HBO Max.

‘Sound Bathtub’ meditation might be your new favourite meditation

0

After months and months of uninterrupted bad news, we all feel run down and look for ways to relieve stress and center ourselves. Have you thought of meditation? Sound baths can help you stay focused during meditation – and you can even do them at home. Here is how.

Start with basic meditation

“Meditation is just an exercise to get you inside and be present in the moment,” says Tara Atwood, a New England-based expert on sound baths and meditation. “This is often quite difficult as our minds wander.”

Let’s get real: it’s hard to stay present in the moment when the moment is so tense. From the pandemic to global warming to domestic and world politics everything seems to be mixed up right now and it can feel downright impossible to tear your mind away from all the horror. However, you need to do it for your own well-being. You have to find joy and self-realization. And for some, meditation is really the key to that.

If sound baths sound interesting to you, try a simple meditation first. You don’t have to be fully immersed in it and show up at your local meditation center every day – YouTube is full of simple, guided ones Meditations You can do it anywhere, anytime, and experts like Atwood have their own available, even.

At its most basic level, meditation is about focusing on mindfulness, paying attention to every breath that goes in and out of your body, and noticing where your mind wanders. It doesn’t have to be intimidating – just close your eyes and take a moment to focus on your breathing. Atwood points out lower blood pressure, reduced anxiety and tension-related pain, and an increase in happiness and creativity as some of the many benefits of meditation.

OK, so what is a sound bath?

Sound baths and sound therapy are used in meditation to help you focus and stay present, explains Atwood, “With every sound, tone and note, you are brought back to the moment.”

“Sound healing therapy uses aspects of sound and music to improve physical and emotional health and wellbeing,” she says. “Rich audible tones and invisible frequencies are heard and felt, and our bodies naturally vibrate with the frequencies emitted into the room, restoring normal vibrational frequencies from non-harmonizing parts of body, mind and spirit, while in a deep state of relaxation and healing. The frequencies of tones and audible tones have profound effects on our breath, blood flow, cell movement, biorhythm, thoughts and our brain waves. “

Atwood uses old Tibetan singing bowls and alchemy bowls made of pure quartz crystal for their sound baths, but you can also start a little smaller. She said you can even hum and vibrate with your voice.

Take a look at the offers online: Amazon sells singing bowls as well as independent specialties Shops. Some bowls only cost around $ 35, so you don’t have to break the bank – and cause yourself financial stress to be less anxious.

Once you have received your singing bowl or vessel, rub or beat it (usually with a tool provided) to create the desired vibrations.

What you can expect from sound baths

We live in a chaotic, rarely mindful era, so this zone may be difficult for you to break into. Don’t worry if your thoughts wander a lot at first. Stay tuned and work hard to focus on your breath and your body.

“A sound bath (both virtual and in person) requires that you be in a quiet and safe place where you can relax completely and be present without distractions,” says Atwood, who recommends finding a safe and quiet place and your Make sure that the temperature in the room is moderate and lie down on the floor in a comfortable position with pillows.

When doing guided meditation, she adds, “You are invited to be present in the room first while focusing on your breathing and your breath. You may be asked to perform a body scan to connect with your physical body and focus your mind on the here and now. ”Relax your body completely and make sure your hands and feet are not touching.

Again, don’t worry about going to personal meditation centers if you don’t want to – or if you freaked out during these pandemic times for taking deep breaths surrounded by other people.

“It’s okay to take part in virtual sound baths,” says Atwood. “In fact, I practiced personally before the pandemic because I can’t play live for myself, but simply listened to myself over a loudspeaker to play a previously recorded session. After having personally experienced sound baths daily during training in India and now virtually at home, I have found that the experience is essentially the same and leads to similar and comparable results. “

If you choose to go this route, record your singing bowls and then listen to your recordings through headphones while you meditate.

Don’t worry about getting this “wrong” somehow. The goal here is to not worry and instead enjoy some peace and quiet. If you feel like you are relaxing and connecting with your mind and body, then you are doing it right. Case closed.

Kanye West keeps up with the Kardashians, especially Ex Kim Kardashian.

On Friday, August 20, the exes went out in Malibu to have a bite to eat. The former couple was spotted by photographers walking into a local restaurant without their children in tow.

Kim and Kanye’s outing is just another sign that they are smoothly moving from husband and wife to co-parenting.

A few months ago, sources said their relationship was strained, but on August 6, a source exclusively told E! News that the couple has forged a “true friendship” while “communicating more and more”.

“Kim wants the kids to keep in touch with Kanye and will make it possible,” the insider said at the time. “It is very important to her that she has a healthy parenting relationship with Kanye and that the children have strong relationships with both of their parents … It is a top priority for Kim and she is doing everything she can.”

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said Friday that travelers at high risk of serious complications from Covid-19 should avoid cruises regardless of their vaccination status.

The updated guidelines also recommended that travelers who are not fully vaccinated should not cruise.

The new council follows several coronavirus outbreaks reported on board cruise lines, according to the CDC.

While the agency doesn’t introduce the same masking requirements that apply to planes, trains, and other public transportation, it suggested that face-covering be worn for cruise passengers in common areas.

“The virus that causes Covid-19 spreads easily between people in close proximity on board ships, and the likelihood of getting Covid-19 on cruise lines is high,” the CDC said in its updated guidance.

The agency advised all travelers, regardless of their vaccination status, to get tested one to three days before a cruise and three to five days after their return. Anyone taking a cruise should be in quarantine for seven days after returning, even if they tested negative for the virus.

The new policy comes just a week after the Belize Tourism Board announced that 27 people on board a Carnival cruise tested positive for Covid.

During Friday’s extended trading, Carnival Cruises shares fell more than 2%, Norwegian Cruise Line shares fell nearly 3%, and Royal Caribbean Cruises shares fell more than 2%.

After the industry closed at the beginning of the pandemic due to multiple outbreaks on board ships, the CDC has enforced strict guidelines to prevent similar events from occurring.

Of the three cruise lines, Royal Caribbean was the first to return to operations and had few cases on board ships, which was the target, according to CEO and Chairman Richard Fain.

Royal Caribbean and Carnival have allowed some unvaccinated passengers on board ships, but Norwegian has not.

Norwegian even filed a lawsuit against Florida surgeon general to halt a state ban that prevented companies from requiring customers to provide proof of Covid vaccination. The cruise company was granted a temporary stay in enforcement, but Florida has filed an appeal.

Get monetary savings vs. repay money owed

The average millennial carries more college debt than any other generation before, but debt and other financial problems aren’t just limited to millennials. According to a recent poll, 40 percent of Americans don’t have the means to pay an unexpected $ 400 bill.

After you’ve tried typical belt tightening advice like skipping Starbucks or eating less, read on to find out how you can use your savings to balance your debt and live a more comfortable life.

Get out of debt

Many people are forced to start their financial journey with high debts through student loans: Around 54 percent of students have to take out loans to cover their training costs. But with careful financial planning, you can pay off your debts and increase your savings.

There are several different financial approaches that people use including debt consolidation, freelancing for an extra income on the side, and even investing. Choosing the right approach will depend on your income, goals, and the amount you want to save or withdraw.

When should you prioritize savings?

One of the main reasons people should make increasing their savings a priority is when they don’t have an adequate emergency fund to raise in the event of a disaster. Some emergencies that could lead to even more debt include car repairs, emergency medical treatment, or unexpected job loss. Experts recommend having funds available just in case to pay for the saved expenses for at least three to six months.

Another reason for choosing saving over paying off debt is because of the low interest rates on your loans. Take a look at how much interest you accrue annually on your loans. When you have single-digit interest loans, it can make sense to prioritize building your savings. The idea with this is that if your interest rate is lower, your loan amount won’t change too much, which means that the time it takes to build your savings won’t have too much of an impact on your creditworthiness either.

A comfortable future retirement is another important reason. If you have not yet started saving for this scenario, it is important that you put some reserve aside each month, be it in a 401 (k) or an individual retirement (IRA) account. The sooner you start saving for retirement, the more returns you will get over the long term. Investing doesn’t seem to be in your best interest if you haven’t saved up or if you have large debts to pay off. However, if your company offers 401 (k) matching benefits, you are missing out on free money for not taking advantage of these programs.

When to prioritize debt settlement

Debt settlement makes sense when the interest rates on your loans are high. In the US, total debt is approaching $ 14 trillion. If your interest rates are in the double digits on money you owe, you may want to prioritize paying off your debt. With a high interest rate, you could be paying much more over a longer period of time if you don’t make significant payments on a regular basis.

And repaying a loan in full is always in your best interests, even if your interest rate is low but your minimum payment is high. By repaying this type of loan, you will free up a significant amount of income that can be used for saving and investing and more than you could possibly could if you were to try to pay off a loan and save at the same time.

A major benefit of early loan repayment can have an immediate positive impact on your creditworthiness. If your score is holding you back, repaying credit can improve your score so you can take other steps to build your credit, such as building your credit. Even the simple repayment of a loan or credit card debt can have a positive effect on your score. Note, however: some types of credit may have penalties for early repayment, so read the fine print.

Master the art of balancing savings and debts

If you haven’t figured out how to make money while you sleep, the art of balancing debt and savings is an important lesson. Even the most frugal donors will run into financial problems at some point. It is advisable to save some money for emergencies so that you do not go into further debt and have more peace of mind. The key is figuring out what your priorities and goals are so that you can use these tips to create a financial plan and move on from there.

Chevy Bolt EV recall prolonged as a result of hearth hazard

Vermont State Police released this photo of the 2019 Chevrolet Bolt EV that caught fire in the driveway of State Representative Timothy Briglin, a Democrat, on July 1, 2021.

Vermont State Police

DETROIT – General Motors announced on Friday that it is extending its recent recall of Chevrolet Bolt EVs to newer models of the electric car due to possible fire hazards.

The expansion of the recall is expected to cost the automaker another $ 1 billion, bringing the total to $ 1.8 billion to replace potentially defective battery modules in the vehicles.

According to GM, the 2019-2022 model year recall will add about 73,000 vehicles in the US and Canada, including a recently launched larger version of the car called the Bolt EUV. The former recall affected approximately 69,000 2017-2019 model years cars worldwide, including nearly 51,000 in the United States

The expanded recall now covers all Bolt EV models ever made, casting a shadow over GM’s first mainstream electric vehicle as it seeks to sell all-electric vehicles by 2035. By 2030, 50% of all new cars sold are said to be electric cars.

The stock closed Friday’s session at $ 48.80, a decline of less than 1%.

GM said it is pursuing reimbursement obligations from EV battery supplier LG Energy Solution, which produced the defective parts at plants in South Korea and Michigan. Parts from the US plant have not yet been involved in the recall.

The automaker plans to replace the vehicle’s expensive battery cell modules. GM also said it is working with LG to fix the root cause of the defects and increase production of the new modules.

“Our focus on safety and doing what’s right for our customers guides every decision we make at GM,” said Doug Parks, an executive vice president of GM who oversees products, purchasing and supply chains. “As leaders in the transition to an all-electric future, we know that building and maintaining trust is critical. GM customers can count on our commitment to take the steps to ensure these vehicles are safe.”

The expansion follows the companies who have determined that the batteries for these vehicles may have two manufacturing defects – a cracked anode tab and a folded separator – in the same battery cell, increasing the risk of fire.

GM has confirmed a fire in the new recalled vehicle population. That’s in addition to at least nine previously confirmed fires on the first round of vehicles that were recalled.

GM also said it will notify customers when replacement parts are available.

In the meantime, GM is urging affected Bolt EV owners to set their vehicles to a 90% state-of-charge limit in Hilltop Reserve Mode (for 2017-2018 model years) or Target State-of-Charge mode (for 2019 model year).

GM is also asking owners to avoid draining their batteries below about 70 miles of remaining range and, as recommended last week, continue not to park their vehicles indoors or charge them unattended overnight “out of caution”.

According to GM, owners with questions should visit www.chevy.com/boltevrecall, contact the Chevrolet EV hotline at 1-833-EVCHEVY, or contact their preferred Chevrolet EV dealer.

Here is tips on how to check Home windows 11 with out putting in something

You can now demonstrate Windows 11 from your internet browser, thanks a new website created by a resourceful developer called “Blue Edge”.

Everyone can see Windows 11 firsthand on the website, even if your PC doesn’t meet the requirements the strict hardware requirements of the operating system, and without having to Install an unfinished beta version of Windows 11 on your pc. I’ve tried it in Chrome and Edge and it worked fine, so it should be accessible in almost every browser.

To be clear, this is not a fully functional replica of Windows 11, nor is it a remote desktop running the operating system on. The website is really just a (very convincing) simulation of reality – albeit with limited interaction. For example, you can open the Start menu, Search widget, Edge browser, and Windows Store, but these are just compelling models with some interactive sections to sell the effect.

The system tray icons at the bottom right also respond accurately to the time, date, battery, and internet connection status of your system, but hovering your mouse over an icon or shortcut won’t display the tooltip text that is normally displayed in Windows 11 will.

The revised file explorer of Windows 11 is also not operational in the Blue Edge simulation – at least for the time being. When you open File Explorer, a new folder window opens, but it just says “Coming Soon”. Still, there’s an indication of what Windows 11’s slimmer, rounded app and folder windows will look like in action.

However, aside from those few models, most of the page is a purely visual representation of the standard Windows 11 desktop.

The Notification Center and News widgets are more static images than interactive elements, and nothing happens if you click the Trash or Settings menu icons or try to display the hidden system tray icons. The same applies to most of the “apps” in the start menu.

However, some open new pages to Blue Edge’s social media profiles, and the Github icon opens the Win 11 on the React project page for those who want to know more about it.

Still, the Win 11 in React page is a largely accurate representation of how Windows 11 looks and behaves, and anyone curious about the next version of Windows should give it a try. It’s not the full Windows 11 experience, but it’s a lot easier than upgrading your PC to install an unfinished beta.
