Trump is demanding that three of the largest GOP fundraisers cease utilizing his title to earn money with Republicans who voted for the indictment

DONALD Trump has called for three major Republican fundraisers to stop using his name and likeness to raise money.

A Trump adviser on Saturday confirmed that former president’s attorneys were sending cease and desist letters to the Republican National Committee, the National Republican Congressional Campaign and the National Republican Senate Campaign.

In the letters, the groups were asked to stop using his name and likeness for fundraising emails and goods.

The adviser said Trump is sensitive to the use of his name and likeness for branding purposes, especially since the groups in question supported Republicans who voted against him in his second impeachment trial.

Seven Republican senators voted to indict Trump over the January 6 attack in which the former president’s supporters stormed the Capitol building.

Trump is reportedly using his Save America SuperPAC to raise funds for his hand-picked Republican candidates in the 2022 congressional election, Reuters reported.

Some of these candidates are expected to challenge Republican incumbents who Trump would rather not have in office.

In a statement to Politico on Saturday, Trump confirmed that he would fight Alaska’s Republican Senator Lisa Murkowski, who was one of seven who voted for the indictment.

“Under no circumstances will I support the failed candidate from the large state of Alaska, Lisa Murkowski.

“She represents her state badly and her country even worse. I don’t know where other people will be next year, but I know where I’ll be – in Alaska, where she’s fighting a disloyal and very bad senator.”

During a speech at the Conservative Political Action Conference in Florida last week, Trump suggested that he could run for president again in 2024.

“Who knows, I might even decide to beat her a third time,” Trump said during his speech, reiterating his widely refuted claim that he actually beat Democratic candidate – and now President – Joe Biden in the 2020 election.

What’s “responsible of grief” and the way can we eliminate it?

As we have learned all too well over the past year, grief isn’t just limited to losing a loved one (though this is their own particularly painful kind of grief). Whether it’s losing a job, not seeing family and friends for long periods of time, or just mourning our lives before the pandemic, we still have no idea what impact this collective grief and trauma will have over the next few years Come on us will have.

Not only can this grief build up over time, but after a year of uninterrupted racial injustices, natural disasters, and all the damage caused by previous presidential administration, we never really have time to process one trauma before the next one happens. This leaves us with what is known as “grief debt” – and like monetary debt, it is difficult to pay off. Here’s what you need to know about grief debt and how to deal with it.

Illustration for article titled What is 'Grief Guilt' and How Can We Get Rid of It?

What is grief guilt?

How Emily Laurence writes for Well + GoodBereavement “happens when we drain energy from our emotional bank to process any dispute, and those cases reinforce each other and continue to use the energy until there is nothing left to withdraw.”

Having to deal with a single trauma is difficult enough, but multiple trauma at the same time is a completely different challenge. That’s because when we don’t have a chance to fully manage the first trauma, “you usually focus on the next tragedy before you’ve worked through the first,” clinical psychologist DR. Kahina A. Louis tells Good + good.

To cope with life we suppress the trauma and “if you suppress a trauma, you can suppress certain emotions, but [they don’t] go away, ”adds Louis. “They can appear in your thoughts and actions without even realizing it.”

How to Get Rid of Grief Debt

While it is certainly possible (and advisable) to process and process grief, the idea is to learn coping strategies in order to manage it in the future – rather than expecting it to go away over time. But when we find ourselves in a situation where grief debt is at stake, it is crucial that we at least do something to resolve it, rather than letting the trauma continue to pile up.

Everyone has their preferred techniques, be it journaling, mindfulness exercises, talking to a therapist and / or grief counselor, or just screaming and crying, psychiatrist Dr. James S. Gordon tells Good + good. The most important thing is figuring out what works for you and giving yourself the time and space without focusing on the next bad thing.

The Senate passes a $ 1.9 trillion easing invoice

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) and Senate Minority Chairman Charles Schumer (D-NY) walk on Capitol Hill in Washington after a press conference about an agreement on a coronavirus disease (COVID-19) aid package, DC, USA December 20, 2020.

Ken Cedeno | Reuters

The Senate passed a $ 1.9 trillion coronavirus aid package on Saturday as Democrats rush to send out a new round of aid.

The Democratic House intends to pass the bill on Tuesday and send it to President Joe Biden for signature on the unemployment benefit programs before the March 14 deadline. The Senate approved the plan in a vote of 50-49 parties when Republicans questioned the need for another major spending package.

The legislation provides for direct payments of up to $ 1,400 to most Americans, a weekly increase in unemployment benefits of $ 300 through September, and an extension of the child tax credit for one year. It also provides new funding for Covid-19 vaccine distribution and testing, rental support for households in difficulty, and K-12 schools for reopening costs.

The package also includes a $ 14 billion wage subsidy to U.S. airlines, the third round of federal aid to industry, in return for not having workers’ wages on vacation or lowering until September 30th. Airlines were commissioned with $ 1 billion.

The approval of the Senate brings Biden’s first legislative initiative closer to implementation. While the GOP and some economists criticized the size of the bailout as the rate of vaccination increased in the US, Democrats said they needed decisive action to prevent a sluggish recovery and future economic problems.

“We’re going to end this terrible plague and travel again and send our kids back to school and be together again,” said Chuck Schumer, Senate Majority Leader, DN.Y., before the vote. “Our job right now is to help our country move from this stormy present to this hopeful future.”

The Senators passed the bill by budget vote, a process that did not require Republican support but any Democratic vote. Senate Democratic leaders had to grapple with varying forces within their caucus to gain unified support while trying to balance the need to keep nearly all House Democrats on board to pass the plan next week.

A disagreement within the party halted the process for about 12 hours on Friday. West Virginia Democratic Senator Joe Manchin declined to support his party’s unemployment benefit proposal and sent leaders to find a compromise that could win his support and save the bill.

The Democrats decided to keep the current $ 300 per week increase in unemployment benefits through September 6, and to exempt the first $ 10,200 from tax. The proposal reduced the $ 400 weekly surcharge through August 29, which was passed in the House a week ago.

The change – plus a separate Senate decision to limit the number of people receiving stimulus checks – risked the wrath of progressives in the house. Biden was in favor of the unemployment agreement.

After the Senate vote, the president said the process was “not easy, not always beautiful, but so badly needed”.

“This nation has suffered too much for far too long,” he said. Biden estimates the direct payments of up to $ 1,400, which will also go to dependents of eligible Americans, will begin this month.

The bill was finally passed after a vote in which Senators considered dozens of changes to the package. The legislature, who sometimes dozed at his desks or put his head in his hands, voted on changes by Friday evening and until Saturday afternoon.

Republicans cast symbolic political votes, including failed changes to ban direct payments to prison inmates or limit aid levels to states that falsely reported nursing home deaths from Covid-19 (which targeted New York).

The GOP lambasted the aid package, describing it as a lavish list of democratic priorities. Common targets included $ 350 billion in state, local, and tribal aid and $ 170 billion for K-12 schools and higher education.

“This is not a pandemic rescue package. It is a parade of left pet projects they go through during a pandemic,” Senate minority leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., Said Friday.

McConnell and others cited a stronger-than-expected February job report when they argued that the U.S. doesn’t need nearly $ 2 trillion more in incentives. Nevertheless, around 8.5 million fewer people were employed in the USA than in the previous year.

Biden referred to the need to sustain the recovery – along with the millions who could lose unemployment benefits without renewing pandemic-era programs – when advocating the relief bill on Friday.

“Without a bailout plan, those gains will slow down,” he said. “We cannot afford to take a step forward or two steps back.”

Proponents of the law also pointed to its potential to fight child poverty.

House majority leader Steny Hoyer, D-Md., Said Saturday that the House plans to approve the Senate version of the bill on Tuesday. The Democrats didn’t win Republican support in the House of Representatives last week when they passed similar laws.

Still, House spokeswoman Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., Hoped for GOP support in a statement following the Senate’s approval of the plan.

“The House is now hoping for a bipartisan vote on this life-saving legislation and urges Republicans to join us in recognizing the devastating reality of this vicious virus and economic crisis and the need for decisive action,” she said.

After incorporating the bailout plan into law, Biden is expected to push ahead with his economic recovery and infrastructure proposal. Nevertheless, Schumer did not rule out another bill on the pandemic if the economic conditions indicate needy areas.

“If they need more help, we’ll do another bill,” he told reporters.

I mentioned to a friend I was testing these; they had no idea that Yamaha made audio items like this. They thought the company was only keyboards. While yes, they have made/make great musical instruments, they’ve taken that commitment to quality to audio products. Specifically their new TW-E3A True Wireless Earbuds. These are currently $30 less and worth every penny.

First off, they paired perfectly and quickly with my phone. The sound is really clear, specifically when I was listening to my favorite podcasts. They are also very comfortable and stayed firmly in my ears as I trudged eleven blocks on errands in the snow. Unlike other less expensive earbuds, I absolutely see the difference in not having to fuss with finding the right position to get the most dynamic sound. The microphone was a little murky on the calls I made, but that could very well be on the cellular provider. I had these in for quite a few hours while writing, and again they’re extremely comfortable. I got a full steady five hours of playtime before I popped them back in their very pretty matte case. Yamaha boasts twenty-four hours of battery life off one charge, and I absolutely believe that given my experience. As with all earbuds, the “simple controls” take some time to get used to, but I can say these are a lot more responsive initially with a single tap. These are sweat and water-resistant, so don’t be afraid to take these to your next gym session.

Apple decided to forgo having a plug included in their new iPhone 12 line this year, for environmental reasons. However, in order to use their MagSafe charger effectively, one still needs to use a 20W charger, and any plugs you have had from Apple previously won’t fulfill that.

This is where the Anker Nano Charger comes in, where you can easily plug into your USB-C to Lightning Charger, or the MagSafe accessory, and reap the benefits of fast charging. It’s the smallest 20W charger and can be used with your fave Apple phones, or with Androids, up to you.

If you’ve been itching to up your audio game, or just need something to drown out the noise in your makeshift home office, consider Apple’s AirPods, which you can get for $120 on Amazon right now. That’s a $39 savings off the list price, and about $10 less than we’ve seen them lately at Amazon.

Want a case you can toss onto a wireless charging pad for an effortless power boost? The same AirPods with a wireless charging case are $150 right now, or $49 off the list price.

In either case, they’re incredibly portable, so you can carry them with you around the house, easy to pull out when you need to chat with someone, and they easily pair with all your Apple devices so you don’t have to keep futzing with Bluetooth settings all day.

I’ve had the pleasure of trying this out the last few days and can say it is, in fact, a great alternative to an Apple watch in many ways. If you don’t need many bells and whistles, the Aukey Smart Watch is a worthy entry into the category. It is currently 30% off and ready to make life a little easier.

The most significant feature I was impressed by is the battery. The company claims a twenty-day battery life. But even at that, I’m finding I only need to charge this once a week. Obviously, the less you have it sending alerts and doing extra work for you, the longer it’ll last. The display is vibrant, easy to read, and even looks a bit like that trendy watch all my friends have. It synched up with my phone seamlessly, and it was a breeze to get my texts sent too. This watch is compatible with Facebook, WhatsApp, Instagram, Twitter, WeChat, etc., so you can receive a variety of chat messages. Using this on runs and even just for errands was excellent to track steps, distance, and calories burnt. And if you are a super active person, there are twelve total modes for monitoring running, cycling, mountain climbing, to name a few. As with most of these, you can also look after your sleep patterns and real-time heart rate. And don’t worry about sweat ruining your pristine watch; it’s waterproof. Now the only very tiny grip is that everything reads in the metric system, so there’s a bit of a learning curve. I’ve been pleasantly surprised so far at how much this watch can do. It’s not elite, but it certainly deserves consideration if you’re looking for a low-budget option.

It took Samsung a long time to shed its reputation for essentially copying Apple’s iPhones, but in recent years, the tech giant has become known more for boundary-pushing innovation. That said, when the original Galaxy Fold foldable smartphone—which opens up to reveal a large, tablet-sized screen within—was first launched, it was widely ridiculed. And when it was delayed after review units broke, well, that didn’t help.

Luckily, Samsung gave it another go, and last year’s Galaxy Z Fold 2 5G has seen much better reviews than the original. The outer screen is much larger and more useful now, the whole thing feels more durable, and there’s no weird super-sized notch on the inner screen. It’s a true powerhouse of a smartphone at a truly wallet-decimating price of $2,000. Gizmodo’s Sam Rutherford wrote in his review:

“For anyone who has dreamed about tech that allows phones to do more, the Z Fold 2 is a pioneer of the post-phone era. The Z Fold 2 offers an experience unlike anything else on the market, so while that price might not make any logical sense, somehow it’s still not completely outlandish.”

If you’ve been waiting for a deal to ease that eye-popping price, Amazon has one: it’s currently $200 off in either Mystic Bronze or Mystic Black. That’s still $1,800 for a smartphone, which puts it well outside the reasonable range for most buyers, but if you can’t fight the FOMO… hey, 10% off is something. You’ll also get $100 off a pair of Samsung’s new Galaxy Buds Pro in black if you buy ‘em at the same time as the phone.

Looking for a more compact foldable smartphone? Amazon is also taking $419 off the price of the non-5G model of Samsung’s Galaxy Z Flip, which folds from a typical smartphone size into a pocket-friendly, wallet-like chunk. That one’s $963 for the unlocked Mirror Black version.

If you have a semi-recent iPhone or a higher-end Android phone, then it’s probably equipped for wireless charging, letting you top it up simply by placing the device on a charging pad or stand. While typically not as fast as plugging in a cable, it’s significantly more convenient, especially if you set your phone on the pad when sitting down to work, for example.

Whether you just got a new phone or haven’t yet tried out wireless charging on your handset, you can grab an Anker PowerWave wireless charging pad for just over $9 at Amazon, no coupon or code required. It supports the Qi charging standard used by the last few generations of iPhones, as well as phones from many of the top Android makers. It also works with wirelessly-chargeable earbuds cases, such as the AirPods Pro.

There’s a new season on the horizon, which means that it’s a perfect excuse for retailers to roll out big spring sales. Today, we’ve got one from Eneba, which features some major savings on PC games. We’re looking at some real heavy hitters here. For example, you can get the complete edition of Horizon Zero Dawn for $27 with the code ITSSPRINGAGAIN. That same code also brings the deluxe edition of Hitman 3 on Xbox down to $48 (hey, who let a console game in here!?). My personal favorite is Crusader Kings III for $21 after applying the code. While March probably isn’t bringing cause for celebration this year, at least we can get some good games out of it.

Folks, we love a big gaming sale. I simply love to see a bunch of video games discounted. I will click through as many pages of deals as you can throw at me. Best Buy’s the latest retailer to drop a massive sale on software, and it’s a good one. It includes plenty of major first-party games and even the elusive Nintendo discount. Allow me to walk you through some highlights. Marvel’s Avengers is 50% off at $30, which is good because the game’s Hawkeye DLC and next-gen upgrades are right around the corner. Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 + 2 is down to $25, and you’ll eventually be able to upgrade that to next-gen too. For Switch owners, take your pick, but I recommend Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity. The action game is down to $50. There’s plenty to gaze upon, so get to clicking.

Lets’a go! Super Mario 3D All-Stars is down to $50 at Best Buy today, a familiar price for anyone who grew up playing the games included in the collection. Back in 2002, I remember getting $50 from my mom so I could go to the mall and gleefully pick up a copy of Super Mario Sunshine. Then there was 2007’s Super Mario Galaxy, one of the first games I bought on my own when I went off to college. At the time $50 seemed like a real investment. Seeing that price tag on these classic games is kind of nostalgic, isn’t it? Okay, I’m reaching. It’s a little bizarre that the collection was $60 to begin with, but the price reduction here is a welcome one. Super Mario 3D All-Stars will literally vanish from shelves on March 31, so if you’ve been hoping for a discount, now might be the time to jump to it.

Do you ever look at your muscles and think “What if these were gigantic?” Do you dream of getting huge? Do you want to crush cans with your pecs? Well, okay, look, Ring Fit Adventure probably isn’t actually going to help with that, or at least not on its own. You’ll probably need a meticulous exercise routine, better diet, blah blah whatever, that sounds hard. But if you’re just looking for a steady and consistent way to stay healthy, Ring Fit is a surprisingly great option. Nintendo’s fitness RPG comes genuinely puts you through the ringer with a variety of exercises, from squats to planks. The game gets the most out of its unique ring-con accessory to make players feel the burn. From first hand experience, I can tell you its no joke. Death Stranding was already a timely game when it came out in 2019, but like a fine wine, it only gets more existentially troubling with age. Hideo Kojima’s box moving epic paints a picture of a divided United States in the wake of a cataclysmic event that’s wiped out the population. Does that sounds like a nice piece of escapism in these trying times? If it does, the PlayStation 4 version of Death Stranding is currently $20 at GameStop. The game has been retailing for around $40 recently, so it’s an especially low price for a key title that’s not included in the PlayStation 5’s PS Plus Collection.

I hope you’re ready for a good cry, because Ori and the Will of the Wisps is $15 right now. Okay, that’s not the part that’s going to make you cry, unless you just love deals a lot. The game itself is extremely emotional with some genuinely tear-jerking story beats. If you’re not familiar with the original, Ori is a 2D platformer about a little creature frolicking through the woods (there’s a lot more lore than that, but I don’t have the time or space to get into it here). The sequel gives you a precious owl baby and proceeds to tear your heart out of your chest Mortal Kombat style in a quest to protect it. Ori and the Will of the Wisps is a gorgeous and slick platformer with satisfying mobility and a deeply affecting story, so don’t forget it as you finish going through your 2020 catch-up backlog.

Newegg is the place to be when it comes to PC gaming sales. The retailer tends to roll out carte blanche game sales from time to time, and this week’s is full of heavy hitters. Devil May Cry V is only $18, with its Deluxe Edition at $24. My personal pick here is Ghostrunner, last year’s best Cyberpunk game, which is down to $17. That’s only a tiny taste of what you can expect here, so jump on in and get to clicking so you can see what else is there.

Let’s get something straight: I’m not a Call of Duty person. It’s not even because of the complicated political aspects of the series either. I am just bad at it. Every time I try a demo for a Call of Duty game, I just do absolutely terrible. I am useless to any team I’m on and even worse as a lone wolf. This is to say that other people who are not me are very good at Call of Duty. If you’re one of those people, you can grab Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War on sale for $45 over at the Microsoft Store (Xbox only, of course). The game’s cross-gen bundle is discounted too at $56, so you can get both the Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S optimized version of the game in one bundle. I will not see you on the battlefield.

There’s a random little video game sale happening at Amazon today and we can’t complain about that! An odd assortment of console games is on sale, with price up to 17% off. The obvious highlight here is the PlayStation 5 version of Devil May Cry V for $34, but there are some other niche highlights here too. Shark RPG Maneater is $34 on Xbox, which is a fun little deal. You can also grab Divinity Original Sin II: Definitive Edition on Xbox for $20 if you want to get really deep into an RPG this Spring. There are plenty of less obvious games discounted here, which makes this sale stand out among your usual sales with your Assassin’s Creeds.

Whether you’re with someone(s) or not, you should take a day just for yourself. Adam & Eve is running a sale for some weekend fun. Take 25% off your goodie basket just use the code EROTICA. There so many products to pick from, so you’re sure to find just what you need.

Now, my favorite Jack Rabbit Signature Thrusting Rabbit rarely goes on sale but the code works with this. This vibe is possibly my gold standard now; I will judge all other toys against it. Honestly, most will be found lacking. The Thrusting Rabbit from Calexotics is just out of this world. It also arrives in this gorgeous white retro box. The silicone is plush and soothing. Each trust has perfect precision. There are three speeds, and it’s super easy to control with the buttons even in the most intense session. The little bunny ears have seven vibrations, and you can choose to use them or not. This vibe gives me some of the most robust experiences I’ve ever had with a toy. I’ve tested many of these for you all, so it’s not often I’m literally and figuratively shook. If you want to upgrade, this is the ultimate upgrade. I do recommend lube and going slow at first. I was not expecting this to be so powerful. Very pleasantly surprised though.

Speaking of lube, Wicked’s Aqua Waterbased Lubricant was included with a toy I reviewed last year. It’s not left my nightstand since. Wicked is, hands down, my number one. The best is it’s in a super discreet and all black bottle, so no reason to hide it. I guarantee this will be your go-to once you try it.

Nothing is more classic or comfortable than a crewneck sweatshirt, and I’ve had many of these over the years. I’m currently in one I swiped from a pal’s house while I was cat-sitting a few years ago. I’ve been starting my day with the Daydreamer Face Wash and was surprised at how light it is. It’s super viscous, which means you don’t need a lot, and it covers your face evenly. There is no discernable scent, which is great if you’re averse to strong smells. I was pleasantly surprised with how refreshing this was. Next, there is the Meltdown Acne Oil, perfect for soothing and helping clear problem breakouts. This is a great product to have on hand when you have an unexpected zit pop up. I definitely saw a difference in a few days after spot treating. And last, we have the Hug Me Natural Deodorant. My issue with natural deodorants is they usually don’t hold up over the course of a busy day, but I have to say this one was much better than I expected. Again no real scent, which was nice because sometimes deodorants can be overwhelming. I don’t know if I’d run a few miles with this, but I can say if you’re looking for something that glides on beautifully and will keep you protected on the day-to-day, this isn’t a bad option. All these products are free of the nasty ingredients we’ve hoped to eliminated from our beauty routines like aluminum, parabens, and drying alcohols. The perfect balance of natural ingredients has created not only quality items from Blume but reliable ones too.

If you’re looking for an affordable phone that is ready to take advantage of 5G speeds, there’s no smarter option right now than the Google Pixel 4a 5G. It’s already a great deal at the list price of $499, but Amazon is currently slashing $50 off the list price. Gizmodo’s Sam Rutherford called the Pixel 4a 5G “hands down the best $500 phone” in his review last fall, and I can echo that sentiment from my own experience with the handset and other recent phones. In accordance with the WHO, the pandemic brought on extra “mass trauma” than World Warfare II

0

Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, Director General of the World Health Organization (WHO), speaks after Dr. Anthony Fauci, Director of the National Institute for Allergies and Infectious Diseases, during the 148th session of the Executive Board on the Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19) outbreak in Geneva, Switzerland, January 21, 2021.

Christopher Black | WHO | via Reuters

The Covid-19 pandemic has caused mass trauma on a larger scale than it did in World War II, and the effects will “last for many years,” the World Health Organization top official said Friday.

“After World War II, the world experienced mass trauma because World War II affected many, many lives. And now, even with this Covid pandemic, more lives are affected,” said WHO Director General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus a press conference on Friday. “Almost the whole world is affected, every single person on the surface of the world is actually affected.”

“And that means a mass trauma that is disproportionate and even greater than what the world experienced after World War II,” he added, noting the mental health implications. “And if there is a mass trauma, it affects the communities for many years.”

His comments came in response to whether countries should consider the economic and mental health impact of the pandemic more when planning their ways forward. Tedros MPs stressed that mental health should be a priority.

“The answer is absolutely yes,” said Maria Van Kerkhove, director of the WHO’s Emerging Diseases and Zoonosis Division. “There are differences in the impact this has had on individuals, whether you’ve lost a loved one or family member or friend to this virus. Whether you’ve lost your job, children out of school people, who are forced to stay at home in very difficult situations. “

Kerkhove added that the world is still in the “acute phase” of the pandemic, as the virus penetrates communities and kills tens of thousands every week. However, she added that psychological distress from the pandemic will become a major problem in the long run, saying that “Governments, communities, families and individuals need to put much more emphasis on taking care of ours.” Wellbeing. “

Dr. Mike Ryan, executive director of the WHO’s health emergencies program, urged people not only to highlight the pandemic’s mental health as a problem, but also to discuss solutions.

“It is one thing to say that mental health and mental health are under pressure – it is true – but also the opposite of what we do to support people and communities and provide psychosocial support,” he said .

Here is the way to get a job take a look at on which beers trigger the worst hangovers

For some people, drinking is a science. They know exactly how much to drink, what to eat, and when to go to bed to ensure that their hangover is minimized. Well, that’s one thing you can be paid to do – research. Just think of it as professional Male cat. Here’s what you should know about the opportunity.

How to get paid to have a hangover

The study is sponsored by the online writing platform EduBirdieand tries to find out which beer brands have the least impact on a person’s productivity in the morning after a long evening. They want to recruit 28-40 participants to drink the 15 most popular American brands of beer and then see what they are capable of the next day while hungover.

Each participant tests between two and four brands of beer within three weeks (depending on their personal preferences). For each brand tested, a tester receives a one-time payment of USD 300. Testers must pass two tests developed by the company: the day before their bing and then the morning after they drink.

“Clear eyes, full hearts, cannot lose.”

While it’s been ten years since we’ve heard Coach Taylor played by Kyle Chandler, give one of his inspirational speeches on the soccer field, it feels like we just enjoyed the acclaimed series for the first time yesterday.

Since Friday Night Lights ended in February 2011, the legacy has continued as new fans keep discovering the show and many of the cast keep improving their profiles.

Whether it is to see Chandler regularly play or watch more series on shows like Bloodline Connie Britton To shine as the star of Nashville, American Horror Story or Dirty John, there is no doubt that the show about a small town in Texas and its football program made many of its cast members superstars.

In honor of Britton’s 54th birthday on Saturday March 6th, let’s take a look at the achievements she and the rest of the Friday Night Lights cast have made since we left them in Dillon.

The Senate passes legislation in opposition to China-funded Confucius Institutes at US universities

The Senate unanimously passed a law on Thursday – without a roll-call vote – to increase the supervision of Confucius Institutes, cultural centers financed by China that operate on university campuses.

According to Human Rights Watch, the Confucius Institutes are “government-funded outposts that provide instruction in the Chinese language and culture.” However, some politicians, particularly Republicans, have accused them of spreading propaganda.

“Confucius Institutes are under the control of the Chinese Communist Party except for their names,” said Senator John Kennedy, R-La., Who introduced the bill. “This bill would give colleges and universities full control over their resident Confucius institutes and restore freedom of thought to their locations.”

In 2020, Senator Marsha Blackburn, R-Tenn., Introduced a similar bill. Senator Marco Rubio, R-Fla., One of the co-sponsors of the law, said, “For too long, the Chinese communist government has tried to infiltrate American universities through the disguise of the government-run Confucius Institute.”

S-590 Bill, approved by the Senate on Thursday, would cut federal funding for universities and colleges that have Confucius Institutes on campus that do not comply with the new oversight rules and regulations.

The invoice will next be sent to the house for review.

In her January Senate confirmation hearing, recently re-elected U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Linda Thomas-Greenfield came under fire for a 2019 speech she gave at a Confucius Institute in which she was China seemed gentle towards her.

Senator Ted Cruz, R-Texas, said during the hearing that Thomas-Greenfield was overly optimistic about China’s relations with African countries, while Beijing’s human rights record was not tough enough.

Thomas-Greenfield later said the speech was a mistake and failed to express her views on China, and she vowed to limit Beijing’s influence over UN General Assembly sessions.

The case against the institutions has gained momentum in recent years.

Senator Rob Portman, R-Ohio, said in a 2019 report that US universities have given the Chinese government access that can “stifle academic freedom” and provide an “incomplete picture of the Chinese government’s policies and strategies that run counter to US “domestic and international interests. “

The bipartisan report followed an investigation by the Standing Subcommittee on Investigations, chaired by Portman, of how American colleges and universities manage Confucius Institutes at their sites.

Senior panelist Senator Tom Carper, D-Del., Said in the report that while the Senate “has not uncovered evidence that these institutes are a center for Chinese espionage or other illegal activities,” it is “critical.” is that we should be vigilant in combating foreign efforts to sway American public opinion. “

Congressional annual defense spending package for 2019 severely curtailed the autonomy of these China-funded cultural centers by threatening to withhold funding for language programs from their host universities, Human Rights Watch reported.

Human Rights Watch said nearly 22 Confucius Institutes have closed since the law was passed.

The University of Missouri closed its Confucius Institute last year after a notice from the U.S. Department of State for Education and Cultural Affairs regarding visa concerns while the Trump administration attempted to close the institutions.

Changes to the State Department’s guidelines for housing facilities would have made maintenance too costly, a university provost said at the time.

Long before the legislature sounded the alarm, university professors signaled problems with the institutes.

The American Association of University Professors (AAUP) published a report in 2014 recommending that colleges dig deeper into classroom curricula and agendas.

“Confucius Institutes act as the arm of the Chinese state and are allowed to ignore academic freedom,” the statement said, which also highlighted a lack of transparency. “Most of the agreements establishing Confucius Institutes contain nondisclosure clauses and unacceptable concessions to the Chinese government’s political goals and practices.”

How you can enhance vertical tabs in Edge Chromium

0

Update your Edge Chromium browser today and you’ll get a fun little prompt asking if you’d like to enable the browser’s new vertical tabs feature. As someone who is always keen to try new things, I decided to follow my browser’s suggestion.

This of course gave me a pretty monstrous list of tabs on the left side of my browser. (Yes I really need to suppress interference– This is just a small excerpt from the list that fills the entire vertical space of my 1440p display.)

You will find that all of my links have been stitched together by Reddit. This is by design: I’ve been looking for ways to make the vertical tab bar a bit more manageable – since it now feels more like an outline than a wasteland of tabs overlying my browser – and came across some tricks to consider when testing the new user interface.

Before I start, you should know that the default appearance of your sidebar doesn’t have to be permanent. Click on the little one “<" Arrow in the upper right corner of your tab bar to collapse the whole thing into a series of icons. Hover your mouse over it and your tabs will expand. I’ll admit, I don’t find this the most useful setup for productivity, but it at least makes my browser look super clean.

For the organizational hacks, I recommend entering Edge: // flags in the address bar of your browser and activate three different flags:

  • # Edge tab groups: Allows users to organize tabs into visually distinct groups, such as: B. separating tabs that are assigned to different tasks.
  • # edge-tab-groups-auto-create: Automatically creates groups for users when tab groups are enabled.
  • # Edge tab group collapse: Allows you to collapse and expand a tab group when tab groups are enabled.

These do nothing for the tabs that are already open, but new tabs that you create from the same domain are placed in a convenient tab group that you can collapse and expand as you wish. While you’re still able to clutter your tab bar, at least you’ll be able to group them better if you group your tabs together.

Another approach you can take, either by replacing or in addition to the Groups feature, is to use a list to organize your list of open tabs. I like Organizer tabthat automatically sorts all of your tabs by url. The extension automatically sorts your tabs when you press a keyboard hotkey. However, I find it more useful to automatically sort tabs based on time intervals. Out of sight out of mind.

Finally, there are two other browser flags you can turn on for fun, not because they help you keep your tabs organized. pulling up Edge: // flags / again and switch on:

  • # Tab hover cards: Allows a tab information popup to appear when you hover over a tab. This replaces tooltips for tabs.
  • # tab-hover-card-images: Displays a preview image in tab hover cards when tab hover cards are activated.

Now if you hover your mouse over one of the tabs in your vertical bar, you’ll see a neat pop-up window that gives you the full title of the site and an image preview:

Even so, I’m still waiting for the biggest tweak of them all – a way to resize the vertical tab bar so I can see a bit more of a site’s name by default. This was possible when Microsoft tested the functionality in beta versions of Edge Chromium. Hopefully she’ll come back someday.
