Interview with Pascal Soriot, CEO of AstraZeneca, about deliveries to the EU

Pascal Soriot, CEO of AstraZeneca, has defended the late launch of the coronavirus vaccine in the EU, saying the drug company is working “around the clock” to fix production problems. However, he also noted that the EU ordered three months later than the UK, which meant it was behind in addressing supply issues.

The EU has reacted angrily at a delay in AstraZeneca’s delivery of coronavirus vaccines to the bloc, which the European Medicines Agency is expected to approve later this week.

The 27-strong bloc expected around 80 million doses of the sting by the end of March, but will reportedly only receive around 31 million doses. With member states struggling to gain access to vaccines and rollout bursts, the EU has announced it will limit exports of EU-made Covid-19 vaccines.

Speaking to Italian newspaper La Repubblica, Soriot said delays in the delivery of his coronavirus vaccine were caused by a variety of production issues.

“We think we solved these issues, but we are basically two months behind where we wanted to be,” he said

The Anglo-Swedish drugmaker had also seen “such teething troubles in the British supply chain,” noted Soriot, but when the British deal was signed three months before the European vaccine deal, the company had “three additional months to fix any glitches that we have experienced. “

However, AstraZeneca continued to plan to deliver most of the vaccines promised to the EU in February. “But if we deliver what we want to deliver in February, it’s not a small volume. We are planning to deliver millions of cans to Europe, it’s not small,” he told the newspaper.

A Brazilian doctor will voluntarily receive an injection in July 2020 as part of phase 3 studies with a vaccine developed by Oxford University and the UK pharmaceutical company AstraZeneca.

When asked what amount the EU could expect, Soriot said that once the vaccine is approved by the European Medicines Agency (EMA), “we will ship at least 3 million doses to Europe immediately, then we will have another shipment.” about a week later and then in the third or fourth week of February. The goal is to dispense 17 million cans by February. “

“It’s not as good as we’d like it to be, but it’s really not that bad,” he said. Globally, Soriot said production capacity would be 100 million cans as of February.

Anger in the EU

Talks between AstraZeneca and the EU took place on Monday. Afterward, EU Health Commissioner Stella Kyriakides said the discussions “have led to dissatisfaction with the lack of clarity and inadequate explanations”.

The EU has asked AstraZeneca to provide a detailed plan for vaccine delivery and timing of distribution. Further discussions are scheduled for Wednesday.

Some countries, including Italy, have threatened legal action against AstraZeneca for the delay. Others have asked why the UK, which relies heavily on the AstraZeneca surge to introduce vaccinations, has pushed ahead with its vaccination campaign and has not yet experienced supply shortages. It has immunized more than 6.8 million people with at least a first two-dose dose of the vaccine.

Soriot said the UK manufacturing facility was more productive and insisted that there was no anti-EU context.

“Firstly, we have different plants and they have different yields and different productivity. One of the highest yielding plants is in the UK because it started earlier. It also had its own problems, but we solved them all. Good productivity, but it’s the UK plant because it started earlier. “

“We don’t do it on purpose. I am European, I have Europe in my heart. Our chairman is Swede, is European. Our CFO is European. Many leaders are European. That is why we want to treat Europe as the best.” we can.”

He noted that the drug company had a “best effort” contract with the EU as it wanted to be delivered at the same time as the UK, even though it was later to request the vaccine. “By the way, we have not made a commitment to the EU. It is not an obligation that we have for Europe. It is a great effort.”

Scaling and production problems

With a coronavirus vaccine developed, clinically tested, and approved in less than a year, Soriot said it was natural for the scaling-up process to interfere.

“We’re scaling up to hundreds of millions, billions of doses of vaccines at a very fast rate. We didn’t have a vaccine a year ago. If you do that, you have glitches, you have scale-up problems.” He added that there were currently problems with the production of the vaccine substance in two European plants.

“For Europe, the active ingredient is essentially manufactured in two plants, one in the Netherlands and one in Belgium. The drug is actually manufactured in Italy and Germany. So from a drug point of view, we have full capacity. We have no problem.” The current problems have to do with the manufacture of the drug’s substance, “he said.

It’s never nice to criticize or criticize someone on their social media post Tell them they are doing a wrong exercise (Even if you really think you are right). For men, negative comments like this can be annoying at times. For many women, they are constant. So let’s talk about what you can do about it.

How to spot an asshole comment

Before we dive into the actionable tips, let me take a minute to describe the problem area. An asshole comment is meant to make you feel awful or it may have some vague intent, but you definitely feel awful. These can be comments saying that you are ugly or you shouldn’t be doing what you’re doing. You can be subtle neglect or downright insults or hate speech. Basically, when you see it, you will know.

I’m sure a few guys are rushing to the comments right now to say I don’t get upset about anything and that a few asshole answers aren’t a big deal and anyone who’s worried needs to get thicker skin. Yes, it would be nice if this was a little problem that is easy to solve. But it is not.

Negative comments and sleazy compliments abound online. If you haven’t seen them, it may be because you are only keeping your content visible to a few trusted friends – a valid choice. Or, what you post may not make people angry. For example, if you are a woman who lifts heavy weights or a fat person who exercises, the fact that you exist will make people mad. They may respond with downright insults, or they may cover up their scorn as a worry that you will be hurt or that you will never find a partner.

And it’s not just sexist comments: there’s a lot of shit racist, fatphobic, transphobic and more. I’ll focus on the sexist ones in this piece, but let’s be clear: everyone deserves to use their body the way they want, including to exercise or play sports. Everyone deserves to share as much or as little as they want with their chosen audience. And nobody deserves toxic junk in their answers. Don’t you like what you see Keep scrolling.

Don’t assume they know what they’re talking about

Outright insults are easy to spot, but negativity often comes in the form of comments about what you’re actually doing. The bench press is cheating, they will say. Or you’re crouching wrong.

When someone gives you unwanted advice, you don’t have to listen to them. You don’t even have to argue – but more on that in a moment. First, try to distinguish good-faith, actually helpful advice from bullshit masquerading as such. (Typically: good faith, helpful advice most likely comes from someone you actually asked.)

Especially if you are new to lifting and have accepted the premise that good form is important, you might be tempted to consider a critical comment as possibly applicable to a truth. If someone tells you you are lifting the wrong way, you might automatically think, “Oh shit, I better figure out how to fix this!”

See, it even happens to me. I’m going to post a deadlift and a concerned troll is going to say something about my round back and I’ll watch my video again to see what they see. I know I held my back I will tell myself, but did you see something I didn’t see?

This is a natural reaction, but try to catch yourself if you react this way. When a comment hits a nerve, ask yourself two questions:

  1. Is this a person I would look for their expertise? If you didn’t ask Random No Public Pictures Bro’s advice, why would you take that advice if it was given unsolicited?
  2. Do I actually want a form review? Most of us already know what we’re working on. My coach has been helping me improve my snapshots for over a year by giving me one clue to work on, then another, then another. It’s a process and it works. Even if you want a form check from people online, it does a request to make thoughtful.

Even if you don’t have a trainer, you have the right to take on your own training and decide what to work on and who to seek advice from. If you’re really scared by a troll comment, don’t forget that you can send the video to your trainer or trusted friend to ask, “Hey, am I rounding my back here?”

But please remember that not all advice is good advice. Indeed some of the loudest Answer guys have the worst advice. I’ll never get over the ease with which random fitness brethren tell an elite powerlifter that she isn’t doing a “real” bench press with her back arched or that the sumo deadlift is “cheating”. Sorry folks, the rules allow these two things, and if a competitor lifts in the way that is most beneficial to their body, it would be stupid not to do so. You get points based on how much weight you’ve gained, rather than whether a guy with a blurry profile picture thinks your elevator looked good.

Illustration for article titled How to Handle Negative Comments on Your Training Contributions

In all fairness, a lot of these comments come from a place of jealousy. Angry guys (and they’re not always guys, but honestly, usually guys) will see respectable strength performance from someone who doesn’t look like a “real” lifter to them, and instead of questioning their own prejudices, they become ‘me I’ll look for ways to make myself feel superior Telling you you’re doing it wrong is just their way of causing you to fall and making you feel good. You don’t have to play along.

You don’t have to argue

Okay so you have a bullshit comment and you know it’s bullshit. It may be tempting to tell this troll why they are wrong, but that’s not your only option.

Will you like to argue with them? Will it be worth your time? What is the payout? If the nasty comment is about a post that doesn’t belong to you, replying to it sometimes sends a message to bystanders that unacceptable comments will be answered with a pushback. It’s a tiny thing, but it helps. (Beware, depending on the context, people can pile on you. The world is not fair.)

So let’s talk about some of the other options.

Catharsis can be helpful.

Delete, report, block

If the offensive or unhelpful comment is on your lawn, like a comment on an Instagram post you wrote, the best thing to do is to just delete it.

The troll wants attention, either from others or from you, by making you angry. Deleting the comment will deny them this satisfaction. Also, it will keep your side as an asshole free zone as you might like.

On a forum like Twitter, you can’t delete other people’s Tweets, but you might hide their replies. You can also block them, making it harder for your followers to see what they said and theirs to see you.

I don’t like to mute or hide people when they are idiots. Muting and hiding are only intended when you are satisfied with letting something exist. You just don’t want to see it in person. But if someone is an asshole on my lawn, I want them to be gone, or at least be separated from me. Clear. Block.

If it’s hate speech, or if you think the platform’s reporting system will be on your side, report it.

And if there’s a comment thread that continues to receive responses but you’ve decided to leave your post open, look for a setting (say, “Don’t follow replies” on Facebook) that at least doesn’t let you know notified about it.

Fry them

Sometimes I get mad at a troll and then I get mad at myself for being mad. Why should that person live rent free in my head? In this case, catharsis can be helpful.

You don’t have to involve the terrible person in this matter. Just take a screenshot and bring that screenshot to your most supportive group text so you and your friends can toast the person privately. The social support as a coping strategy is enormous. You will feel less alone and it can help you regain your confidence.

You can always tag on Instagram @ you.look.like.a.man for sexist comments. Strong woman Jessica Fithen who runs the account shares them again and sometimes adds comments. I avoided following the account when I first found out because it can be full of toxic things. But the more I interact with it, the more I appreciate that there is a community of strong women out there making people aware of their bullshit. Fithen estimates that about 90% of the “hateful, unnecessary comments” she highlights are from men; she wrote a blog post here about what she learned from a year and a half.

What if I know the person?

Every now and then people leave comments that they really don’t know are harmful. Sometimes unwanted comments about form review fall into this category. Sometimes overly sexualized compliments also come from a place of ignorance.

If you know the person and want to save the friendship – this is absolutely an optional step – it is worth pointing out what they are doing and why it is harmful.

I once had someone else comment that mine Knee depth was “erotic”. Big, but I could tell from the context that it should be a real compliment. That makes it absolutely wrong, but other than that, he seemed a generally nice person and we had some friends in common. I didn’t block it. But when he did it a second time, I had him ask if he realized he was cutting off as super creepy. He immediately apologized and said he hadn’t thought about it like that and never did it again.

To be very clear, you don’t owe anyone this second chance. It is a gift to give when you feel generous. Otherwise there is a good enough toolkit for deleting, blocking, reporting, ignoring and roasting.

Susan Sarandon turned down Large Verify for Thelma & Louise Sequel

0

Susan Sarandon was on the verge of telling Hollywood executives to take a flying dive after coming up with a wild idea for a Thelma & Louise sequel.

The Oscar-winning actress appeared on the Tonight Show on Tuesday, January 26th Jimmy Fallon congratulated her on the fact that many young people discovered her classic road movie from 1991, which also starred in it Geena Davis.

“Oh, good! I didn’t know,” Susan replied over the newfound spotlight of the film. “That’s cool.”

As it turns out, Susan explained that Hollywood bigwigs were hoping to create a sequel for the film, which sounds a bit confusing as the original film doesn’t leave too many loose ends to tie.

“They were talking about a sequel, but I couldn’t … I don’t know what it would be,” she continued. “I can not understand.”

Jimmy picked up this thread and quipped that the sequel might be supernatural. “Do you remember the movie, was it Topper?” he was joking, referring to the 1937 comedy in which Cary Grant plays a ghost.

David Solomon, CEO of Goldman Sachs, receives a $ 10 million pay lower from 1MDB

Goldman Sachs CEO David Solomon saw his 2020 wage cut by just over a third as part of a punishment for the bank’s role in the 1MDB scandal.

The bank, which posted its highest revenue in over a decade despite the coronavirus pandemic last year, has admitted to guilty of misconduct while serving with a now infamous development fund run by the Malaysian government called 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB).

The $ 10 million wage cut for Solomon, roughly 36% of his annual salary, reflects previous penalties imposed on the bank rather than Solomon’s own behavior.

“While at the time of the 1MDB loan dealings, none of Messrs Solomon, Waldron, or Scherr was involved in or aware of the Company’s involvement in illegal activities, the Board of Directors views the 1MDB matter as an institutional failure that is not up to date What is compatible is expectations of the company, “stated a security notification from Goldman Sachs on January 26th. Solomon has been CEO of the bank since 2018.

The pay cuts also apply to John Waldron, President and Chief Operating Officer of Goldman, and Stephen Scherr, Goldman’s chief financial officer, who each received a $ 7 million pay cut. The cuts are part of a broader effort by the bank to reclaim $ 174 million in salaries for former and current executives as part of its sentences.

The moves are “part of the broader determination of the Board of Directors regarding the compensation of certain past and present senior executives in light of the results of the regulatory and regulatory investigations and the extent to which the Company has resolved government and regulatory issues related to 1Malaysia Development Berhad.” (“1MDB”) “wrote the SEC filing.

Solomon’s salary package consists of a base salary of $ 2 million, a cash bonus of $ 4.65 million, and stock compensation of $ 10.85 million based on the bank’s performance. His salary for 2020 was then $ 17.5 million instead of the $ 27.5 million he received in 2019, although last year turned out to be a busy year for the bank, with revenues of $ 44.56 billion. Dollar, its highest since 2009.

The 1MBD scandal, which has been investigated since 2015, has been one of the biggest drag on Goldman Sachs’ reputation at a time when the American bank was grappling with its image problems over criminal allegations of poor asset sales during the 2008-09 financial crisis .

Prosecutors at the time accused the bank’s executives of overlooking fraud and bribery in order to collect hundreds of millions of dollars in fees for the sale of bonds to raise money for the fund while serving for then-Prime Minister of Malaysia , Najib Razak, and 1MDB consultant Jho Low are accused of mastering the scam.

$ 700 million of the fund was stolen from Najib, cash that flowed into the prime minister’s private bank account, and the proceeds from bond sales were reportedly used to pay bribes to officials in Malaysia and the Middle East.

Goldman pleaded guilty to his role in the scandal in October and agreed to pay nearly $ 3 billion to government agencies in four countries to end the U.S. investigation.

Two Goldman Sachs bankers were prosecuted while Najib was sentenced to 12 years in prison and fined 210 million Malaysian ringgits (US $ 51 million). Jho Low remains at large and is believed to be living in China despite an Interpol Red Notice issued for him by the Malaysian authorities. The scandal is said to have cost Goldman Sachs more than $ 5 billion.

Cash: Bozemanites increase cash for window artists in downtown Information

0

If you’ve been in downtown Bozeman for an extended period of time, there’s a very good opportunity to get Buzzard’s job done.

Just passing Buzzard, Buzzard paints the windows of downtown shops and cuts ice off the sidewalks for people in wheelchairs or strollers to maneuver onto the sidewalks. He usually gets paid for the window graphics, but chopping the ice is something he does for free so that men and women who have mobility issues like him can use the sidewalks year round.

Now, over 100 people have donated to a GoFundMe arranged by the downtown organization’s owner Billy McWilliams to aid Buzzard’s apparent obsolete debts and prepare his home for a new bicycle incident that results in hip medical procedures for the artist led.

“Everyone loves their artwork in their home windows,” said McWilliams, who owns the adult boutique Erotique and is a friend of Buzzard. “There are a lot of similar things for Buzzard in downtown Bozeman. We felt that we had to help him immediately after his accident. “

The fundraiser raised nearly $ 5,000, which McWilliams said was spent on things like new, safer furnishings for Buzzard’s apartment and a new bike for him in the immediate aftermath of the predecessor’s accident. It also cleared a few obsolete funds owed.

“It’s just part of the downtown stuff, it’s so constructive and enjoyable and wonderfully unusual,” said McWilliams. “All of this only serves to make everyday life comfortable and much better. He delivers people (side by side) in a unique way, through his works of art and through his cheers. “

And art is what Buzzard is about.

Buzzard has lived in Bozeman for about seven years. He was homeless for much of that time, despite claims in recent years that the Human Resources Development Council helped him get into an apartment. Some of the things he explained changed his life.

“I could go in and walk barefoot and stick my toes and use my walker,” he said. That was a big deal for him, and he mentioned that it had a great deal to do with his mobility, mental health, and fitness issues while they can still be problems from time to time.

Shortly after moving listed here, he began portraying windows for free or for groceries and downsizing. But as he honed his craft, he began to be more consistently compensated, although under no circumstances it was about the funds for him.

“I wasn’t looking to make dollars from it even though people would give me money,” said Buzzard.

Due to the fact that Buzzard is basically performing works of art all the time, he usually improves.

“I train and master regularly and improve in real time,” he reported. “I used to use tape to draw a straight line, you know, but now I can just write freehand and balance it out while visually walking.”

He has painted large murals on the windows of Owenhouse Ace Components’ main street, symbols for the LGBTQ + and BIPOC communities, and, not so long ago, artistic reminders of customers needing masks to store in stores.

“There are some men and women who need to do art, appropriately? Which one is he. He’s disappointed when he doesn’t do art, he lives for it, ”McWilliams explained of Buzzard. “It’s great to see the local community really come together based on what he has, who he is, what he exudes.”

Buzzard stated that he says “almost everyone” he speaks to that he loves her. He’s bought so much of it that he can’t hold it, he explained.

“I’m so pleased that I can’t take it from time to time,” said Buzzard. “Everyone helped me, I just can’t thank you enough.”

Top product: Samsung Galaxy S10e | $ 359 | Back Market

I am fascinated by that Everyday wear (EDC) Community demonstrating the useful tools to get you through the day. But I feel like I have the opposite goal: to have as few things in my pocket as possible. As a result, I came up with a slightly different strategy: my everyday comfort is extremely small, and everything else I need is strategically placed around my house and car – sometimes in multiples – so I can access it when I need it without it actually wear on my person.

The stuff I wear every day

I only have four things in my pocket: my phone, my wallet, my bunch of keys (only for necessities) and a box cutter for the myriad shipments that come to my door. (Working in product reviews is a blessing and a curse.)

My phone is one refurbished Samsung Galaxy S10e I got it from Back Market for a very reasonable price – nothing too interesting about it other than the now basically extinct headphone jack.

I pop occasionally a slim case on it, but I usually like to live dangerously (and only then inevitably drop my phone on the sidewalk, so do what I say, not like me).

I try to keep everything else as small as possible. I keep my ID, debit card, and a single credit card online Ridge wallet, an aluminum wallet that is literally the same size as the cards themselves – making them significantly smaller than even the narrowest leather wallets. All other cards are in my car (e.g. restaurant gift cards), my phone (my health insurance card), or my desk (my business credit card, which is not widely used in brick and mortar stores). The Ridge Wallet is a bit expensive, but if you are on a tight budget there are plenty of imitations of varying sheen. ThisWorks well, for example, but has a slight sound of nails on a board when cards are pulled in and out, as opposed to the smooth gliding of the ridge.

You can combine all of these with if you want a wallet case also for your mobile phone.

My keys are … well, they are keys, although most of the time I only have one house key and a few different keys to things in my house – plus a YubiKey for two-factor authentication. I used to think these were unnecessary, but after seeing how much faster they are than looking up a code on my phone, I have one on my keychain so I can easily access it all day. If you have more modern equipment there is one too USB-C / Lightning version that should cover everything you need. My car keys are noticeably missing in my keys – I’ll come back to that later.

While tactical knives are incredibly popular with EDC gamers, I’ve gotten a little less survivor and stuck to a small, collapsible box cutter from Gerber. I sang the praises of Gerber EAB beforehand, but suffice to say it does exactly the job it should do without taking up much space in my pocket. Once you’ve opened enough Amazon boxes to blunt the blade, insert a new one and be on your way – the standard EAB is the smallest, but that EAB Lite offers a slightly larger form factor with a slightly lower weight. Both will work wonderfully, I own both and hardly notice the difference between them.

Oh, and I think people often include watches in their EDC posts, but it exists in this strange space between clothes and tools, so I don’t see it as part of the kit – if it’s not in my pocket, I don’t confuse it with EDC. But for the curious that Orient Ray is my personal favorite watch. It’s downright low tech (for someone who writes about tech), but it’s easily one of the best automatic watches you can get for this price, with a hand-wound and hacking movement, and a 40-hour, 200-meter power reserve Water resistance. I will evangelize this watch until my face is blue but if you are on a budget then Casio has plenty of robust alternatives at cheaper prices.

The stuff that lives elsewhere

These are nowhere near the only items I need all day, but everything else is not strictly necessary and can be kept in optimal locations so I can grab them on the way to the door. For example, my car keys live on one magnetic key holder next to the door to the garage. This way I keep my useful keys with me while the car’s bulky trailer only takes up space when I’m actually driving.

The same goes for my many pairs of cheap sunglasses, Earphones, mask and hand disinfectant, pencilsand everything else i need.

In fact, I buy cheap multiples for most of these things so I can stash them anywhere – I have that a pair of non-isolating earphones in my car, for example, when I’m on the road, as a companion to my friend Bose SoundSport Wireless I use at home. My personal favorite face mask is the Wake Up & Fight mask by Hedley & Bennett, which are available in practical 3-packs, can be distributed anywhere you need them. Before I started taking the YubiKey and Gerber EAB with me, I had some of them stowed away for quick access.

I’m not saying any of this because I think everyone should wear the exact same stuff as me – we all lead different lives with different needs (although I will personally vouch for everything on this list). Instead, I’m just trying to point out how much you can lose weight in these bags with the right approach and the right tiny gear. Hopefully, if your bags feel a little heavy, some of these tricks can help. In the meantime, I’ll just wait for the rest of the world to accept contactless payments so I can dispose of my wallet for good.

The financial system may open up by late spring if sufficient individuals are vaccinated, says Dr. Ashish Jha

0

Dr. Ashish Jha told CNBC’s “The News with Shepard Smith” on Tuesday that US states could make decisions about opening up businesses and economies earlier than predicted if enough people are vaccinated.

“My relatively optimistic view is that we don’t have to wait until the end of summer or even the beginning of summer. If enough people have been vaccinated in late spring, you will really see case numbers come down a lot,” said Jha, dean of the School of Public Health at Brown University. “That will allow us to open up the economy a lot more so that we don’t have to wait and just make sure the infections – the high infection rates we have right now – get better . “

President Joe Biden set a benchmark in the fight against the coronavirus pandemic. He promised to get enough vaccine doses to the states for almost every American by the end of summer. Biden said he would give the government another 200 million doses of the vaccine – half from Pfizer and the other half from Moderna. The deal would increase the country’s vaccine supply to 600 million shots.

“This is enough vaccine to fully vaccinate 300 [million] Americans by the end of summer, the beginning of autumn, “Biden said at the White House on Tuesday.

To vaccinate 300 million people by September 22, the last day of summer, the nation will need 600 million doses at the rate of about 2.4 million shots a day. That assumes it goes beyond the 23 million that have already been bumped. Biden said the government would be sending 10 million shots a week for the next three weeks. That is an increase of almost 20% over what is currently being delivered.

Johnson & Johnson expects results for its Covid vaccine early next week. CNBC’s Meg Tirrell said the company conducted its test on three continents, including South Africa and Brazil, where the highly communicable new variants were identified. This means that Johnson & Johnson’s results could provide vital information on how vaccines developed around the original strain of Covid work against the emerging ones.

Dr. Bruce Becker, associate professor of behavioral medicine and social sciences at Brown University’s School of Public Health, told The News with Shepard Smith that the Johnson & Johnson vaccine requires only one shot and therefore achieves immunity in 14 to 21 years will days.

“The J&J vaccine can vaccinate twice the number of patients for any given vaccine supply – twice the coverage and immunity in less than half the time,” Becker said. “That is a much greater efficiency in blocking the spread of Covid.”

Jha told host Shepard Smith that a single dose would “greatly” aid in vaccination effort, but questioned the company’s manufacturing capacity.

“I think one of the less clear questions is how much stock of J&J vaccines we have.” asked Jha. “There have been some reports that it didn’t go that well, production didn’t go that well, but either way, a dose is so much easier to give as a vaccine.”

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention published a study Tuesday that found that Covids spread in schools is very low with the right precautions. Jha stated that the US can open schools across the country, but “we have to do it” with preventive measures that include masks and effective ventilation.

Becker underlined the importance of preventive measures and even said that non-compliant students should be excluded from school.

“Masking work, social distancing work, and the deadly misinformation circulated by the previous government and their voices created our current dilemma,” Becker said. “Schools can be opened if the rules are followed exactly.”

Biden said Tuesday “it will be months before we can vaccinate the majority of Americans” and that “masks not vaccines” are the best defense against Covid as Americans wait for their vaccine.

In the Heights was one of the most anticipated films of 2020 and is exactly as expected in 2021. Lin Manuel Miranda has a way to grab the hearts of the masses with his mixed genre style, and this pre-Hamilton show brings hip hop rhythm and rhyme to a classic musical.

In the Heights tells the story of three days in the lives of residents of Washington Heights in New York City, a predominantly Spanish-speaking neighborhood. The story began as a Tony-winning Broadway play and was adapted for the big screen by Crazy Rich Asians director John M. Chu.

Musicals are not my favorite (perhaps an unpopular opinion these days, especially when it comes to the work of Lin Manuel Miranda), but it is a historic moment to see such a culturally solemn production in theaters. The wait ends June 18, when you can watch the show in the theater or enjoy it from home on HBO Max.
