No quarantine for vaccinated US residents touring to England

LONDON – US and EU travelers who have been fully vaccinated against the coronavirus will soon be able to travel to England without quarantine, the British government said on Wednesday.

The move comes after the UK government also lifted quarantine requirements on July 19 for fully vaccinated English residents if they visited countries with the so-called Amber List with less severe Covid-19 situations.

Both announcements bring new relief to airlines and the wider tourism sector, which has been hit hard by Covid restrictions. The European travel and leisure sector traded higher on Wednesday, aided by recent decisions. EasyJet and the parent company of British Airways increased their afternoon deals in London by more than 4%.

British Transport Minister Grant Shapps said via Twitter that the quarantine exemption will be introduced from Monday. There comes a time when the United States is lifting some of its social restrictions.

Shapps said the changes would apply to fully vaccinated individuals with a vaccination approved in the US or Europe. Travelers are required to perform the usual pre-departure test prior to arrival and a PCR test on the second day after returning to England.

The Biden administration said this week it will maintain travel restrictions, including a ban on most non-US citizens from entering the US from the UK, as the Delta variant is rapidly spreading. Last week the CDC and the State Department raised their warnings of UK travel to the highest level, urging citizens to avoid traveling there.

The trend has frustrated airlines who had hoped the US would relax travel rules during the peak summer travel season. JetBlue Airways CEO Robin Hayes said Tuesday the airline would offer flights between New York and London on August 11 as planned, but is likely to cut flights in September. “We will continue to do the review from month to month,” said Hayes in a quarterly phone call with analysts.

Meanwhile, the CDC announced on Tuesday that even fully vaccinated Americans should be wearing masks indoors again. This follows renewed concerns about Covid variants, particularly Delta, which is known for its higher infection rates.

Research has shown that ordering food stalls costs the British £ 1,000 a year – an average of around £ 80 a month – and this was estimated before the pandemic broke out.

Research by the British Takeaway Campaign (BTC) suggests the sector is growing about twice as fast as the economy as a whole, and spending could soar to £ 15 billion by 2023.

Tips for Burger King

  • Order the awkwardly named Suicide Burger, an off-the-menu special that includes 4x beef patties, 4x cheese slices, bacon and a secret special sauce. Not for the faint of heart, this is a lot of food.
  • Did you know you can order a box of half onion rings and half french fries? This makes it easier to choose between the two.
  • The £ 3.99 Double Bacon Cheeseburger can be replicated for £ 2.47 – a savings of £ 1.52. Just order a plain double cheeseburger from the King Saver menu (£ 1.49) and add two sides of bacon (98p).

Photo: Zoran Ilic (Shutterstock)

Pots and pans can have a fairly long shelf life, depending on their style, brand, and how well you care for them – but the chances are you’re adding a little too long to that life. The signs that your cookware has reached the end of its life aren’t always as obvious as a broken handle or a peeling surface. Although there are several ways restore your cookware almost as good as new, sometimes beyond repair. Here are a few signs that your pots and pans are officially on the rise.

How to best care for different types of cookware

The average lifespan of your cookware is five years, depending on the hob The kitchen, and there are ways to care for your pots so they will last at least as long, if not longer. First of all, you should hand wash nonstick pans; The heat of the dishwasher causes non-stick coatings to become thinner and wear out much faster than washing hands. When cooking in non-stick pans, avoid using metal utensils as these scratch the coating more easily than wooden or plastic utensils.

For stainless steel cookware, Kelly Vaughan at MarthaStewart.com primarily advises using the right amount of oil when cooking. Covering the bottom of your pan with oil or fat will give it enough lubricant to cook your meal and protect the pan. Vaughan also suggests agitating the food as much as possible to avoid burning the food in the pan.

Cast iron pans will outlast your stainless steel and nonstick pans by far – as long as you season them properly. The top rule with cast iron cookware is not to use soap or other cleaning agents that attack the enamel and natural coating – but do this guide will help you with everything else.

This is how you can tell whether your non-stick pan can no longer be repaired

The signs of a useless nonstick pan are pretty simple: If the Coating is scratched, Your food will stick to the pan and burn (and cause further damage to the pan). As soon as you can see the layer underneath that original non-stick layer, it has outlived its usefulness and it’s time for a new one.

This is how you can tell whether your stainless steel pan is no longer usable

Signs that your stainless steel cookware ready to throw are more subtle than other pans. If you put the pan on the stove and it wobbles, the structure has warped and your food will no longer cook evenly. (Warping is often caused by pouring cold water over or into a hot pan right after use, so let it cool before cleaning it.)

Another sign of the sinking of a stainless steel pot are burn marks. If certain areas of the pan tend to burn food with each use, it means the stainless steel coating has been damaged and it’s time for a new one.

Signs that your cast iron pan is about to go away

Cast iron cookware is often very popular and can even be passed down from generation to generation – if properly cared for. But sometimes they’re just beyond repair. If it wobbles on the stove, like any other pan it is warped and beyond repair. Another sign that it is too far away is that the enamel on the pan has peeled off, you may find that the food is not cooking evenly, and even rust may appear.

Finally, and perhaps most importantly, if you see cracks in the pan, it is no longer safe to use. As a cooking side Taste of home explained: ” [e]Even a hairline crack will expand and contract when heated and cooled, and eventually the pan will burst – a potentially dangerous situation if this happens while cooking! If that isn’t motivation enough to leave out, cracks are also difficult to clean, making them magnets for bacteria and debris.

Metcalfe’s leading actresses connected on and off screen, no love square necessary. Sophia Bush raved about Movieweb about the friendship she has made with co-stars Brittany snow, Ashanti and Arielle Kebbel on the Vancouver set.

“And these girls, I couldn’t go a month without talking to them if I tried,” said the One Tree Hill star, who played Beth, animal lover and John Tucker’s # 3 friend. “And we all, whether it was great things or not so great things, we all had a lot to do last summer and we all stuck with each other and I knew that at 4 a.m. if one of us had a problem, that we could call each other and we all slept in each other’s beds the whole time. It was a dormitory, it was slumber party, it was amazing and fun. “

She remembered one night, towards the end of filming, when they were all just hanging out in Snow’s room.

“Brittany and I were on the couch and we had food ordered and we chew and Ariel is over in the chair and we all write and she puts together a package and Ashanti is at the desk and she has … her headphones on and she’s working on her new song, “said Bush. “And we’re jamming and we’re at the point where we haven’t even talked, we just wanted to be together. Inventory futures are combined after the large averages get away of a 5-day successful streak

0

US stock index futures were mixed during Wednesday morning trading after major averages retreated from record highs and turned in a five-day profit streak.

Futures contracts pegged to the Dow Jones Industrial Average fell just 11 points. S&P 500 futures and Nasdaq 100 futures both traded in positive territory.

During regular trading, the S&P was down 0.47% while the Dow was down 85.79 points, or 0.24%. At the daily lows, the 30-share benchmark lost more than 260 points. The Nasdaq Composite lost 1.21% for its worst daily performance since May 12th. All three major averages ended the session at record highs on Monday.

“Risk sentiment is tense as pressure on Chinese stocks continues,” TD Securities wrote in a notice to clients. “This comes at an inopportune time as the markets digest the pervasive fear of growth,” added the company. The sell-off for the Asian markets came amid ongoing Beijing crackdown on technology and education companies.

A variety of megacap tech companies reported quarterly results Tuesday after the market closed, including Apple, which beat sales and earnings estimates, saying iPhone sales were up 50% year-over-year. Google parent Alphabet also released quarterly results and recorded a 69% increase in advertising revenue, while Microsoft outperformed profits despite a decline in sales from its Windows division.

The week with the highest sales continues on Wednesday with Pfizer, McDonald’s, Qualcomm, Facebook, Ford and PayPal. Of the S&P 500 companies that have reported quarterly results to date, data from Refinitiv shows that 89% have exceeded earnings estimates, while 86% have exceeded sales expectations.

Despite Tuesday’s slump, major averages are still on track to end the month higher. The S&P was up 2.4% in July, while the Nasdaq Composite and Dow were up 1.1% and 1.6%, respectively.

“Although the Delta variant has the potential to trigger new volatility in the short term, we do not believe that it will pose a major threat to the bull market,” UBS wrote in a statement to clients. “Overall, we remain optimistic about the economic outlook.”

The Federal Reserve opened its two-day monetary policy meeting on Tuesday. The Federal Reserve Open Markets Committee will issue a statement on Wednesday, followed by comments from Chairman Jerome Powell during a press conference.

“We’re not expecting fireworks at this Fed meeting,” noted Lawrence Gillum, LPL’s fixed income finance strategist. “But we expect the committee to move on in discussing when and how to begin lifting the emergency monetary policy adjustments it has provided to markets.

The meeting follows comments from the International Monetary Fund on Tuesday that inflation could be more than temporary.

“We anticipate Jay Powell reiterating that the throttling discussion is ongoing, but it is too early to give a specific date to begin the initial asset purchases restriction,” added Danielle DiMartino Booth , CEO and Chief Strategist at Quill Intelligence.

“We expect Jay Powell to acknowledge persistent supply chain disruptions as the main driver of inflation, but we also expect him to highlight examples of certain sectors that have seen relief on the cost front, such as wood and iron ore,” she said.

Highlights from this week’s episode

From the Melinda Wenner Moyer interview:

The importance of talking to children about emotions:

The really interesting thing about doing this research is that apparently one of the most important things we can do with children is talking about feelings and our own feelings, their feelings, recognizing them, and affirming feelings . And at first I thought what is the link here? Why is it so important to talk about feelings? But when you think about it, in order for a child to be generous, thoughtful and selfless, they have to be able to understand another person’s emotions, they have to be able to see how, oh my friend is sad and why? My friend is sad and what can I do to help him? And so they have to be really fluent in the language of emotions and recognize exactly what they look like and what they mean. And if parents talk a lot about them and educate them to read books and the like, it helps to consolidate this development. And I think the ability to talk about feelings really helps solidify itself, what is called the theory of mind, which is essentially the ability to take other people’s perspectives.

Why It Is So Important for White Parents to Talk to Their Children About Race and Racism:

There’s this idea that if you don’t talk about race, your kids may not see and make a big deal of it. And you know, that’s not why your kids get racist. But research really contradicts that directly. And again it comes back to this idea that children look around the world and try to understand what is important. And, as with gender hierarchies, they see very distinctive racial hierarchies and power. And if they see this and they are not told by their parents or teachers why this hierarchy exists and that this is due to racism and the way our society is built through policies and laws and so on, then they will the simplest conclusion that is, OK, well, maybe white people are just better [and] smarter. So again it is these conclusions that children draw, unless we as parents really fight them off, these conclusions can be really dangerous.

How to talk to your children when they have said something racist, sexist, or harmful:

When I talked to researchers about it, they emphasized that first of all you don’t want to shame and yell at your child right away for saying something racist, because then they are so upset and ashamed and they cannot really go beyond this point hear you And they may not understand what they are saying, and they may not understand that what they said is as terrible as it is. So [researchers] say, take a deep breath as a parent and say, “Oh God, where did you hear that? What does that mean to you? ”And“ Why did you say that? ”And try to somehow understand where they are from. And then beyond that, say,“ Okay, well, actually, what you said is really hurtful and let me explain why. “And then, depending on your age, you try to explain why what he said is a bad word or something really hurtful and try to explain the effect those words have on another person One of the things I discovered in general about discipline when I was doing research is that it really helps to keep what your child has done in line with how it affects other people.

Mississippi and Louisiana have a few of the worst vaccination charges and highest Covid hospital admissions in the US

0

Covid cases are doubling in several states and hospitals are starting to fill again, especially in states with lower vaccination rates, as the highly contagious Delta variant rips across the country.

Two of the states that were hardest hit last week – Mississippi and Louisiana and – have the worst and fourth worst vaccination rates in the country and are rapidly increasing in Covid hospital admissions.

Louisiana Health Officer Dr. Joseph Kanter said on Friday that the state is in the middle of a “very dangerous rise”. Governor John Bel Edwards said the outbreak there was so severe that the White House labeled Louisiana a “state of concern”. He and Kanter urged everyone, including those fully vaccinated, to wear masks indoors and work from home if possible.

“To ensure their own safety, the people of Louisiana should take precautions immediately. Masking and testing will limit death and suffering until we get through this, ”he said in a press release. New Orleans officials issued a citywide consultation on indoor masks earlier this week.

The spike in the average new cases, which rose more than 105% in the past week to a seven-day average of 7,592, is causing some Louisiana residents to rush to get vaccinated, state officials said. According to CDC data, only 41.2% of the state’s residents have received at least one Covid shot, but many are rushing to get it as evidence mounts that the Delta variant primarily attacks unvaccinated people, state officials said. More than 58,000 Louisians received their first doses of vaccine last week, up 153% from the previous week, according to data compiled by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Medical staff from the Delta Health Center will be waiting on Jan.

According to a CNBC analysis of the data compiled by Johns Hopkins University, vaccinations in neighboring Mississippi also rose last week as the average daily cases increased by more than 132%, a seven-day average of 910 new cases per day per day . The state has given at least one injection to only 38.6% of its population – and thus ranks last in the country.

In Mississippi, the state delivered nearly 27,000 first doses in the seven days through Sunday, 42% more than the previous week.

“Y’all, we’re going to have a tough couple of weeks,” said State Health Officer Dr. Thomas Dobbs, the state’s former top epidemiologist, gave a press conference to reporters last week. “Delta hits us very hard. We assume that we will continue to burden the health system. “

Nationwide, according to CDC data, around 73% of the available hospital beds are currently occupied, around 4.5% are occupied by Covid patients. However, they make up a larger proportion of the ICU beds available and make up about 11.9% of all ICU patients.

In Louisiana, Covid patients use 8.4% of all available beds and about 16.8% of ICU beds, according to the CDC. Covid patients in Mississippi occupy 7.2% of all hospital beds and 23% of ICU beds.

Dobbs said there are currently 13 hospitals in Mississippi that have “zero intensive care beds and significantly higher numbers than those with less than 10% availability.” He said 93% of the state’s Covid cases and 89% of deaths in the past month were unvaccinated.

The vaccination rates are also increasing there. The state delivered nearly 27,000 first doses in the seven days leading up to Sunday, a 42% increase from the previous week. Reluctance to take vaccines is high across the state, officials said, adding that they are trying to convince residents one by one to get the vaccinations. State officials begged elderly and vulnerable residents earlier this month to avoid large indoor events.

“We hear everything from the microchip insertion to the depopulation plan with the vaccine to the magnetizing people. I mean, you name it, we heard it,” said Dr. Dan Edney, chief medical officer for the state health department, told reporters last week.

In the meantime, the hospitals are closely monitoring their ventilators.

“Our case numbers are increasing rapidly,” said Dobbs. “Our ICU utilization is rising to levels not seen since last summer, and we are also seeing an increase in the utilization of our mechanical ventilators.”

CNBC’s Nate Rattner contributed to this coverage.
