After her breakout appearance in Step Up and Cheaper by the Dozen as sports enthusiast Sarah and her recurring role in The Suite Life by Zack & Cody, Stoner took on the role of aspiring producer and dancer Caitlyn Gellar on the hit Disney Channel Original Movie Camp Rock and its sequel .

In addition to returning to two Step Up follow-up films, Stoner has voiced characters in the Kingdom Heart video game franchise as well as Isabella in Disney’s hit animated series Phineas & Ferb for nearly a decade.

The 27-year-old wrote an essay for Teen Vogue in 2018, sharing her sexuality and her experience of falling in love with a woman – her dance teacher. Stoner also released a single, “When It’s Right,” inspired by the relationship.

She said E! Not long after, it was announced that getting out was “a little scary”, but it was well worth the risk. She said, “Most importantly, it’s a really exciting, fresh time for me to feel more than ever.”

In 2019, Stoner made her head shaved debut in her music video “Stripped Bare,” and later shared about her past mental health problems and overcoming an eating disorder.

“Shaving my head is an act of mental health and confidence, not self-destructiveness,” she told People. “I can’t tell you how many beliefs, opinions, and insecurities fell to the ground with each tuft of hair, and I’ll leave them there.”

She made headlines later that year for stealing the show at the MTV Video Music Awards when she teamed up with her Missy Elliott for an epic performance of “Work It,” 17 years after she appeared in the music video for the hit.
