Before starring as cheerleader Isis in the hit 2000 film Bring It On, Union played Tia and Tamera’s girlfriend Vanessa in seasons four and five.
The timeless actress has since appeared in a number of films including The Brothers, Deliver Us From Eva, Bad Boys II, The Perfect Holiday, Cadillac Records, Think Like a Man, Top Five, Birth of a Nation, Girls Trip, and Breaking In. She won a NAACP Image Award for her role as a dedicated journalist on the BET series Being Mary Jane and currently plays a LAPD detective (who is the same character from Bad Boys II) in Spectrum Originals’ LA’s Finest.
Union spent one season as a judge on America’s Got Talent and after leaving the show claimed there was “toxic culture” on set and she was exposed to racist and sexist remarks. However, an independent investigation found that “no one associated with the show made insensitive or derogatory remarks about the appearance of Ms. Union,” NBC and AGT producers said in May 2020.
At the time, Union told Variety, “At the end of all of this, my goal is real change – not just on this show, but for the larger parent company. It starts from the top down. My goal is to be the happiest, the best functioning, inclusive, sheltered and healthiest example of a workplace. “
She married the now-retired NBA star Dwyane Wade in 2014 after almost six years of dating. They greeted daughter Kaavia James via a surrogate mother in 2018 and she is also the stepmother of Wade’s three children from previous relationships.
