If ever there was a family who inspired books, TV shows, and movies, it makes sense that it would be the Mitfords.
Although relatively unknown in the United States, the aristocrats are the English equivalent of the Kennedys in the sense that they are famous, rich, and no stranger to family drama. In addition, the Mitfords knew the British elite well in their heyday and ran in the same circles as influential figures such as the Prime Minister Winston Churchill and Adolf Hitleralthough some distanced themselves from the Führer for obvious reasons.
In contrast to the Kennedys, the Mitford men were outnumbered by their female counterparts, with gentleman and Lady Redesdale welcome six daughters and only one son.
These six Mitford daughters –Nancy, Pamela, Diana, unit, Jessica and Deborah– would later become the subjects of tabloid fodder, how to do it when they ruffled as many feathers as they did. But instead of fighting over their status, women turned their misfortunes into real fortunes by writing books and becoming celebrities themselves.
