Every step in cleaning a bathtub seems to be constructed to be as annoying as possible. You have to get on your knees to get a proper scrub, which is physically awkward at best and painful at worst. Cleaning the walls is only possible when you actually enter. A fact that I only remember after I’ve already cleaned the tub. Flushing should be the easy part, but it takes forever – even with a handheld showerhead.
The best way to avoid all of this is to clean your bathtub while you shower. It’s faster and easier for a number of reasons, including the steam and hot water that soften lather and other debris so you don’t have to scrub as hard and can reach every inch of the walls from standing right there.
Cleaning up your bath products is easy: put your shampoo and other items in one end of the tub, scrub the shelves, and do a quick rinse of the bottles before putting them back in. Speaking of sinks, it’s a lot easier if you don’t worry about getting wet – especially if your shower head has a hand-held attachment. (If it doesn’t, bring a large, non-breakable mug and use it to rinse the walls.) The entire process takes about five minutes, so you are more likely to do it enough times to keep the shower and Tub clean.
A rinse aid filled with soap makes shower cleaning even easier, but you don’t need one. Just bring a surface cleaner and a sponge or cloth, then head into town. Avoid cleaning products that could irritate your skin. I use the same diluted BioKleen that I use for everything else with a microfiber cloth. Most cleaning products are no more slippery than shampoo or conditioner foam. However, if you lean down in a wet shower, give the sides of your tub a quick scrub before entering. When you show up, your tub is just as fresh and squeaky clean as you are.
