It happens to the best of us. You just learned a person’s name five seconds ago (or worse, met that person several times) and now you’re drawing a gap. While there is Things you can do remember names next timeyou can work around the current emergency in several ways.

If you’re in a professional role and don’t already have one, you can ask for the email address of the person who might give you exactly what you need. You could ask for her name and Pretend you just don’t know her last nameeven though it has been used so often that it is basically an admission of guilt. You can also introduce the person to your friend (“This is my friend Tina”, and Tina can ask for the name of the nameless person).

Or of course, you can just say you have a terrible memory, but it is Great when the other person remembers yours. Giving them an appropriate and thoughtful compliment after your embarrassment can help mitigate the harm.
