Charisma carpenter accuses director Joss Whedon Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel reveal that he “abused his power” while working with her on his hit.
The filmmaker, also known for her work on the Avengers and Justice League films, has not commented on the actress’ remarks, which she posted on Instagram on Wednesday, February 10th. Carpenter, 50, played Cordelia Chase on Buffy between her 1997 debut and 1999 debut, after which she moved to a more prominent role on spin-off Angel, which finished its five-season run in 2004.
“Joss Whedon has abused his power multiple times while working on the Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel sets,” the actress wrote. “While he found his wrongdoing amusing, it only served to heighten my performance anxiety, disempower me and alienate me from my colleagues. The disturbing incidents triggered a chronic physical condition from which I still suffer. With beating, severe Hearts I say I am isolated and sometimes managed destructively. “
At her post, Charisma said Whedon, 56, physically shamed her during her pregnancy, asked her if she intended to keep her baby, and fired her after giving birth.
The actress accused the series creator of “persistent, passive-aggressive threats against her” and said he called her “fat” to “coworkers” when I was four months pregnant. Carpenter’s character fell into a coma in season four of Angel. Cordelia was killed on the fifth and final season of the show, which premiered in October 2003, several months after the actress gave birth to her and her then-husband Damian HardyFirst child, son Donovan.
