If you’re the type of person who enjoys the agony of rogue advancement and city building (in some ways) you owe it to yourself to give Loop Hero a shot. You can even still get your hands on the Loop Hero demo – long removed from Steam, but redownloadable from this handy website.
While I enjoyed the semi-idle gameplay, there’s one thing about Loop Hero that drives me crazy: it’s not fast enough. The normal speed of the game is icy and the “2X” speed feels more normal. There are times when you don’t have to pay attention to the various automated battles your little hero gets into as he spins around a battlefield that you have created. The ability to quickly enforce things that don’t matter and take a break when you need to take an action is a much more exciting way to play the game. And when these fights are slow, the repetitive nature of the game – while inherently fun – can start to drag itself a little.
The solution? A hack, of course. As it turns out, you can edit one of Loop Hero’s configuration files to increase the speed of the game. However, as a number of resourceful players have found out, this can make the game better a little more difficultSome effects that are designed to run on a timer independent of the actual speed of the game will trigger half as much if you run Loop Hero twice as fast, for example.
That’s how I’ve played the game for the past week and it wasn’t a problem. Granted, I play the rogue class, which is probably the least affected by these gimmicks. If you are looking for a necromancer to star, make sure you are not rushing through the game The summoned creatures strategy is practically useless.
Anyway, until developer Four Quarters is building more speed options into the game (yes they are coming) I think it’s worth giving yourself a little digital caffeine. To get started, just go to your game’s installation folder and look for the variables.ini file. Open it up and look for that “Game speed” Option under the “[game]” Header.

By default, this variable is set to 60. Double this number to double your speed. You can enter any number so you don’t have to stick to a traditional 1.5x or 2x multiplier. Make the number “97” if that is the type of gameplay that feels most comfortable for you.
And of course you can cheat and Adjust the other variables if you want but i wouldn’t recommend it. Enjoy the semi-difficult experience for what it is: faster and potentially more challenging. You’ll lose a lot of fun and replayability if only you God mode your way to the end. Trust me.
