Nancy Messonnier, who warned of the hazards of Covid, resigned from the CDC

National Center for Immunization and Respiratory Diseases Director Nancy Messonnier speaks today during a press conference at the Department of Health and Human Services on the Coordinated Public Health Response to Coronavirus 2019 (2019-nCoV) January 28, 2020 in Washington, DC .

Samuel Corum

Dr. Nancy Messonnier, the health expert who was one of the first to raise the alarm about the coronavirus threat to the US, is stepping down from her role at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the agency’s director confirmed on Friday.

Messonnier “leaves a strong force of leadership and courage in everything she has done,” said CDC director Rochelle Walensky at a press conference. “I want to wish her all the best in her future endeavors.”

Walensky ignored a reporter’s question as to why Messonnier was recently dismissed from her role as head of the CDC’s Covid Vaccine Task Force.

Messonnier, who has served as director of the agency’s National Center for Immunization and Respiratory Diseases since 2016, will be leaving the agency effective May 14, several outlets reported on Friday.

She will take on a new role as executive director of pandemic and public health systems at the Skoll Foundation, a California-based organization, she told colleagues in an email.

Messonnier’s resignation was first reported on the Washington Post.

In early 2020, when fewer than 100 cases of Covid had been reported in the US, Messonnier urged the nation to prepare for a massive outbreak that would drastically affect normal life.

“I understand that this whole situation seems overwhelming and that the disturbance of everyday life can be serious. But these things people have to think about now,” Messonnier said in February 2020.

Messonnier’s sharp warnings contrasted sharply with the news from then-President Donald Trump, prompting him to threaten her dismissal.

The former president had falsely tried to reassure the nation that the low number of US Covid cases “will go to zero in a matter of days” and will “miraculously” go away.

More than 32,606,724 Covid infections have been reported in the United States, and at least 580,076 people have died, according to Johns Hopkins University.

Do you have a technical question that keeps you up at night? We’d love to answer it in a future Tech 911 column! Describe your problem in an email to david.murphy@lifehacker.comand make sure to include “Tech 911” in the subject line.

Cant resist a good wireless puzzle and this week’s question writer for Lifehacker Tech 911 has a good problem – a problem that you don’t think about until it happens and that occupies you as you try every trick in the book to get your WiFi back on.

I’ll let Lifehacker read Joe to explain:

I lost my WiFi after the last update and after reinstalling W10 and the pending updates. I lost the WiFi again when I turned off and restarted my laptop. So I did it again, no updates, and set it to never turn off. So far, so good. But of course I can’t leave it like that. Any suggestions?

Drivers, Drivers, and More Drivers

My first guess, Joe, is that there is some kind of driver problem that is causing havoc with your laptop’s wifi card. It’s somewhat indicative that you can get a working wireless connection if you have a barebones installation of Windows 10, but you lose your ability to connect when you install new updates. Obviously, either something in the update (or something that was downloaded and installed alongside) is causing your mayhem.

G / O Media can receive a commission

However, I don’t think the long term answer is to never upgrade your laptop. And never turning it off is an even worse idea for the longevity of your laptop and your monthly utility bill. It is always ideal to have a system that is as updated as possible so that any vulnerabilities or other security issues in the operating system are fixed. The same goes for system stability issues, feature updates, or anything else that brings Microsoft to a boil. I wouldn’t run an operating system that wasn’t updated to the latest and greatest version – at least not if I had a choice between Windows 10 (the old version that came with my laptop) and Windows 10 (the latest version). .

I would suggest contacting the manufacturer of your laptop on the internet – while you still have an internet connection. There should be a way to find your specific laptop model somewhere in the support section of their website. Once you do, you will either be presented with a list of drivers that you can download manually, or possibly even a tool that you can install on your system that will get the latest drivers (and / or firmware) directly from the manufacturer.

Note that your manufacturer’s installations may be different from what Windows tries to install through the Windows Update app (in case you ever find yourself wanting to get updated wireless drivers, for example). Normally I would use Windows for convenience, but it is possible that in this scenario it will mess up your connection.

So you want to download the latest version of the Wi-Fi and / or network drivers on offer from your manufacturer’s support website. And while you’re there, make sure you’ve got all of the available BIOS updates for your laptop installed (just in case).

Update your BIOS and install the wireless and / or network drivers that you downloaded onto your system. You should still be able to handle an Internet connection well. You can then download and install any pending Windows 10 updates and see what happens. If you lose connectivity, reinstall the wireless and / or network drivers above. That should, in theory, fix anything affecting your system.

Illustration for article titled Why Has My WiFi Disappeared After a Windows Update?Screenshot: David Murphy

Apart from that, you can also go to the Windows 10 Device Manager, find your WiFi adapter, right click and select properties, Click on that Driver tab, and “Roll back” the driver. No guarantee this will fix your problem, but it’s worth a try. (You can also try uninstalling the entire device and then reinstalling the manufacturer’s drivers above to see if this helps.)

Finally, you can try looking for drivers directly from the manufacturer of your network card – for me, that’s Intel, see image above. It is possible that a new (or beta) driver will help you, but I would try this option last. In general, drivers offered directly through Windows or drivers from the laptop manufacturer (probably older) are the best choices. But something is better than nothing if you still find yourself unable to make wireless connections from your laptop.

And if none of these solutions work, you might just want to pull the trigger cheaply USB WiFi adapter. It’s an awkward solution, and I hate the idea of spending money on something that should just work, but it’ll cost you less than $ 20 to reconnect wirelessly on your laptop. I would do this before at least having an unprotected PC turned on all the time.

What Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen’s movie pals have executed to date

In Holiday in the Sun, like at the Landers hardware store, the Atlantis Resort employee Jordan Landers (Easter) was a big deal. Not only did Alex (Ashley) notice him, he was the object of Megan FoxThe spoiled affection of a rich girl.

However, in a 2016 interview with Uproxx, Easter admitted that her seven-year age difference during filming (he was 22, Ashley was 15) made her kissing scene a little uncomfortable at first.

“We clicked right away. I remember the age difference was a little worrying because, I can’t believe it, they just turned 15,” said Easter. “I was 21 or 22 and looked like a baby. I remember Ashley saying, ‘No, it’s fine.’ And it was fine. You are very mature for your age. “

In fact, he was the one worried about her big moment, not Ashley.

“I remember being a little nervous about our kissing scene because I was like, ‘Oh my god, she’s my brother’s age and I’m kissing a girl my brother’s age,'” he explained. “And [Ashley] was so generous as an actress too. I remember she grabbed my hand and said, “Hey, do you want to practice really fast?” And I said, “Oh my god, yes please” because I was nervous too. I was 22 and kissed a 15 year old, which sounds awful but is professional. We walked around the fountain and just sat and kissed. And I thought, wow, she was such a good kisser, such a good kisser. And it totally broke the ice. We went back, they called us and I remember we started kissing and the director Steve said, “Cut – guys, it was a little too intense.” And I remember Mary-Kate sitting right in front of us and laughing. “

Easter had such a good chemistry with Ashley that he was recruited onto her ABC family series So Little Time, which replayed her love interest. The now 40-year-old said they had remained friends for years.

While appearing in a few horror films after his time at the OTCU ended, Easter began working as a professional photographer in 2008. Since then, his work has been featured in The Hollywood Reporter, The New York Times, Elle Decor, and other major publications, and has shot campaigns for major brands such as Kiehl’s and Johnson & Johnson. He is also a yoga teacher.

Easter and its partner Mitch Kunert are parents to two children and three dogs and live in Iowa. And he’s still close to one of his Holiday in the Sun co-stars, with whom he’ll be spending New Year’s Eve in 2018 Billy Aaron Brown. (He also took his former co-star’s headshots.)

Methods to hire somebody’s pool (or hire your personal) this summer time

Illustration for article titled How to Rent Someone's Pool (or Rent Your Own) This SummerPhoto: Flystock (Shutterstock)

Swimply, the “Airbnb of swimming pools, ”Seems to have its moment in the sun. The Pools-by-the-Hour app has been growing in popularity during the pandemic, and it is now Expansion into new markets. Here’s what you need to know about renting a private pool or renting your own pool (if you have one).

How Swimply works

Available in the US, Canada, and Australia, Swimply is very similar to Airbnb: Private homeowners rent their pools at varying hourly rates based on the amenities they offer, usually between $ 35- $ 250 per hourfor a maximum of 15 guests at a time (you can search for pools Here).

Swimmers can use Swimply’s app or website to find pools nearby and filter those search results based on the type of amenities they want – a heated pool, diving board, extra hot tub, grill – as well as information about pool dimensions and water depth .

What is offered is different. Some pools are rated as “party friendly” and allow loud music and alcohol, while others have restrictions on how many guests, young children, or whether you can use their property’s bathroom (that’s a deal breaker for me) I would like to read the rules before booking.

The offer also affects the price. Since there are more pools in Los Angeles than in New York, the amenities are greater than what New York offers for the same price. For example, a “pool” in New York is listed at 12 feet by 10 feet (and only 5 feet in depth) and is charged by the owner for $ 100 per hour, while in Los Angeles three times that pool is typically $ 45 each Hour are available.

What about renting out your pool?

True, there are some impressive stories about Pool owners earn $ 50,000 a year During the pandemic, you should ease your expectations and understand the upfront costs before renting out your pool (especially due to the easing of pandemic restrictions on public swimming pools). The truth is that income will vary based on location, time of year, and the amenities you offer.

Swimply’s website claims that pool owners can make $ 10,000 a month, but that would certainly be in the upper price bracket as it assumes you would make around $ 330 every day for a given month. Unless your property also has world-class amenities like a mini golf course, BBQ, hot tub, or bowling alley, expect less. Also, the $ 10,000 figure doesn’t seem to take into account or account for the 15% decrease in your income from Swimply occasional discounts imposed by the companythat some pool owners have complained about.

However, if you already have a pool that is barely used, rental fees can be a nice bonus to your income and help cover the annual running costs for your pool, which averages between $ 3,000 and $ 5,000. according to Home Advisor.

Renters may need additional insurance

Swimply requires swimmers to sign a waiver, but it may not cover all liability loopholes. according to CNBC (The company is currently working on an internal homeowner insurance policy).

You should therefore check your home insurance with your freight forwarder and ensure that in addition to property damage, medical payments and accidental damage are included in the policy. Obviously, additional insurance means higher premiums, which you should consider as a cost before deciding whether this is a worthwhile endeavor.

As you are turning your private home into a semi-commercial space, be sure to check your local and state laws and see what requirements or restrictions exist. As CNBC points out, additional safety equipment and signage may be required. Also note that Swimply requires pools to be health and safety checked to maintain quality control.

LONDON – Adidas is more confident on sales this year as it sees stronger than expected demand for its products around the world for its products despite a consumer boycott in mainland China.

The German sporting goods retailer assumes that currency-adjusted sales will increase at a “high-teens” rate this year, with a “significant” acceleration already being recorded in the second quarter, the company announced on Friday.

“This acceleration is being driven by a number of innovative product releases,” Adidas said in a statement. Major sporting events like UEFA Euro and Copa America are expected to support the deal as well.

The company posted net income of 502 million euros (605 million US dollars) for the first quarter of this year, compared to 26 million euros in 2020. Currency-neutral sales for the company increased 27% during the reporting period.

China boycott

The company said sales in China rose 156% in the first three months of the year.

This despite a boycott of some international brand consumers in mainland China who have spoken out against the treatment of one of China’s ethnic minorities in the Xinjiang region, which is home to many cotton plantations.

The ethnic Uyghurs, who live primarily in western China, have been identified as an oppressed group by the United Nations, the United States, the United Kingdom, and others.

In March, Canada, the UK and the US issued a joint statement expressing “deep and continuing concern” about forced labor, mass detention in detention centers and other abuses against Uyghurs in Xinjiang. In March, the European Union imposed sanctions on Chinese officials responsible for abuses against Uyghurs.

China’s Foreign Ministry in March characterized such claims as “malicious lies” intended to “smear China” and “thwart China’s development.”

Adidas previously said that there is a “zero tolerance approach to slavery and human trafficking”.

In an October 2019 statement, when we learned of allegations against several companies in Xinjiang, China, where ethnic minorities were reportedly subjected to forced labor in spinning mills, we specifically urged our fabric suppliers not to source yarn from the Xinjiang region. “

It added, “Adidas has never manufactured goods in Xinjiang and has no contractual relationship with any Xinjiang supplier.”

That year, the German retailer also joined the Better Cotton Initiative, a nonprofit that decided last year to cease operations in Xinjiang due to human rights concerns.

Adidas and other Western brands, including Nike and H&M, faced backlash on Chinese social media following their comments on the situation in Xinjiang. Some Chinese consumers have boycotted the brands, choosing instead to buy products from domestic companies.

Adidas did not explicitly refer to the issue in its earnings release on Friday, but cited “adverse effects” from issues such as “the geopolitical situation”.

Kasper Rorsted, CEO of Adidas, told CNBC that he continues to expect “very strong growth” from China for the full year.

“We are therefore still very confident that we will further expand our position in China, our largest single market,” he told CNBC’s Squawk Box Europe on Friday.

“This is of course a sensitive issue and we are doing everything we can to ensure that human rights are protected.”

Despite the controversy, Rorsted said he doesn’t think there will be any major shift in the company’s supply chains.

Why Anna Faris blamed herself for Son Jack’s untimely beginning

Why Anna Faris blamed herself for Son Jack’s untimely beginning

Anna remembered that she couldn’t stop wondering why this had happened when things began to calm down at home with the “happy, slightly fatter baby”.

“Why did my water break? So of course I tried to look for answers,” she shared. “I asked my doctor if my dream could cause my water to break because I remember having a comfortable feeling just before waking up. She laughed and said no. I asked her if the baby’s nails If I ran too much, if I ran too little, I put on 60 pounds – I was up to 160 and my doctor suggested at one point that I might have torn the sack should relax on maple poles. “

She continued, “I couldn’t stop looking. I asked her if the ‘geriatric’ thing had anything to do with the cold cuts I was eating … I couldn’t turn myself off. I couldn’t turn mine off. ” own hamster wheel in the search for answers. And the truth is, in a lot of these cases, we have no idea why this is happening. And after Jack was born, my father joined the board of GAPPS, and so did I a few years later. So the main goal of GAPPS is prevention. And in order to prevent premature births, we need answers. “

Anna and Chris, who filed for divorce in December 2017, have both already discussed Jack’s birth and often use their platforms to raise awareness about babies with special needs. She told Redbook magazine in 2015, “Chris and I were so scared, but when Jack came out he looked so good to us even though he was so small.”

On April 28, Anna promoted the GAPPS event by posting a precious photo of herself with newborn Jack, who was wearing a feeding tube at the time, to Instagram.

COVID-19 vaccines are becoming easier to find. For a few weeks now, all adults in the US have been eligible to schedule vaccine appointments, regardless of which state you live in. Now several pharmacy chains are offering walk-ins and same-day appointments at most locations.

President Biden announced this week that he orders pharmacies that receive their vaccines from the federal government to offer walk-in appointments. Thousands of pharmacies take part in this program, including many large chains. You can find a list of them here;; These include CVS, Walgreens, Walmart, Albertsons (including Safeway), Rite Aid, Kroger, Costco, HEB, Publix, Topco, and more.

Not every place offers walk-ins every day. However, if you check the availability of your local pharmacy, you may find that walk-ins are available. Some pharmacies also offer appointments on the same day or even within the same hour that you book your appointment, so people are increasingly able to get the vaccine on short notice.

Some of the chains have made their own announcements:

  • CVS offers walk-ins in “select locations,” reported 8,300 out of 9,900 locations.
  • Walgreens now offers appointments on the same day in all pharmacies and walk-ins at selected locations.
  • All Walmart and Sam’s Club Locations now offer walk-ins. (Sam’s Club membership is not required to receive a vaccine.) Appointments are also possible.

To find a walk-in room near you, check the information for each pharmacy. The federal program also includes some independent pharmacies and small chains. State clinics often also offer walk-ins. So check availability in your area. Getting a vaccine may be easier than you expected.

CDC might now take into account lifting indoor Covid masks mandates

CDC might now take into account lifting indoor Covid masks mandates

Dr. Scott Gottlieb said the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention may begin considering lifting mandates on inner masks as more Americans become vaccinated.

“I think we should start lifting these restrictions as aggressively as we put them in place,” said Gottlieb. “We need to maintain the credibility of health officials to potentially re-implement some of these regulations next winter when we see outbreaks again.”

The former FDA chief in the Trump administration added that “the only way to gain public credibility is to show that you are ready to relax these regulations if the situation improves.”

The US Covid positivity rate is 3.6%, an all-time low according to Johns Hopkins University. It’s a big difference from April 2020 when the positivity rate hit nearly 23%, meaning almost a quarter of all tests done were positive.

In an interview on CNBC’s “The News with Shepard Smith” Thursday night, Gottlieb stated that the general outlook for vaccination in the US “looks very good,” especially as the FDA prepares to sell Pfizer’s Covid vaccine for 12-15 Years to admit – age soon.

“Even if vaccination rates slow down, we will continue to try to vaccinate more people … but I think these profits are limited and the summer is looking very good,” said Gottlieb.

Disclosure: Scott Gottlieb is a CNBC employee and a member of the boards of directors of Pfizer, the genetic testing startup Tempus, and the biotech company Illumina. Pfizer has signed a manufacturing agreement with Gilead for Remdesivir. Gottlieb is also co-chair of Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings and Royal Caribbean’s Healthy Sail Panel.

Cash Confessions: Tremendous Mothers Share Their Private Finance Administration Story with Cash Information

SingSaver spoke to three super mothers and recognized their accomplishments in personal finance.

It’s no secret that the most important job in this world is being a mother. This applies to working mothers who have to reconcile work and family, as well as to mothers who take on the full-time role of caregivers for their children.

On this Mother’s Day, SingSaver pays tribute to three super mothers, not with flowers and cake, but with an allusion to their achievements and insights into personal financial management.

What does personal finances mean for a super mom?

For Yuki Liu, a new mom with an 18-month-old daughter, personal finance is about managing her finances well so that she doesn’t live from paycheck to paycheck.

“Now that I have a family, it is especially important to me and we plan our finances not only for ourselves, but also for our daughter,” she says.

Other working mothers, particularly Eva Tan, a freelance tutor, agree with this sentiment. Since she does not have a stable income, she tries not to spend too much during the rest periods.

“That being said, I have insurance to make sure I have coverage if I have to pay for medical expenses. I don’t have a lot of savings, but I plan to increase my CPF savings as my goal is to get a decent monthly payout of CPF after I turn 70, ”says Ms. Tan.

Obviously, the common theme behind personal finance is taking care of yourself and your family as they get older. For Lynn Sim, whose daughter now works full-time, her goal is to add to her savings for her retirement.

The Secret Behind Budgeting For The Family

1. Issues

For Ms. Liu, a large part of her salary (up to 50 percent) is used to cover family expenses.

“I’m working with my husband to make it through together. I am responsible for purchasing baby supplies and general household items for the family, while my husband is responsible for internet, cables, utilities and general household repairs, ”said Ms. Liu.

In a few months, this will be complemented by her husband making one-time cash transfers to share the cargo of groceries and baby items.

Likewise, Ms. Tan sees at least 65 percent of her salary for family expenses.

“In addition to the usual family expenses (including food and supplies), I spend a lot of money on gas and car maintenance, but the nature of my job makes it important that I drive, and I also drive around to help my family “Explains Ms. Tan.

2. Savings

Cash Confessions: Tremendous Mothers Share Their Private Finance Administration Story with Cash Information

For Ms. Liu, savings and personal expenses are weighted equally at 20 percent, although she admits the latter can be challenging.

“I’m trying to spend less on my beauty regimen, eating out and shopping online. It helps that my husband keeps pampering me with goodies so that I have to spend less money on a cool cup of bubble tea, ”added Ms. Liu.

Ms. Sim takes a very different approach: She puts more emphasis on spending less and saving more by spending 20 percent of her salary on personal expenses, 20 percent on family expenses, and 45 percent on savings. Like Ms. Liu and Ms. Tan, Ms. Sim also invests, although she spends a little more of her salary on it (15 percent).

3. Investments

old

Ms. Sim strongly believes that both investing and saving should be approached at the same time, as saving is a solid and safe form of wealth growth.

“I only invest when I have additional resources and potentially risk losing or growing my money,” she says.

Ten percent of Ms. Liu’s monthly salary is for investment. Their portfolio includes a retirement plan with Aviva, mutual fund / ETF investments made through the POSB Digibank mobile application, and CPF investments made through the CPF investment scheme.

[[nid:477808]]]

Ms. Liu invests cautiously and frequently watches how market forces can counter her investment decisions.

“The Covid-19 pandemic has shown that things can go south quickly and that I’m glad I included manageable risks in my financial planning,” she explains.

For Ms. Tan, she doesn’t rely on her investment portfolio, but instead focuses on relatively stable products recommended by her brother.

After deducting her investment amount and personal expenses, she pays in the rest as savings for rainy days or spends it on what she deems necessary.

Collaborative financial independence

All three women clearly demonstrate a high degree of independence in managing their personal finances. Both Ms. Tan and Ms. Sim believe that they should be fully responsible for their finances and not rely on anyone.

For Ms. Liu, who is financially independent, she also believes in a collaborative approach to financial planning with her husband.

“It’s a team effort,” she says. “There are months when our spending is higher than usual, so we will discuss and adjust our spending together to live within our means.”

Find a balance between hectic pace and family time

As a relatively young mother, Ms. Liu finds that she has a longer runway to look for extra income on rainy days.

“That doesn’t mean, however, that I will get involved in a hectic pace, in which I have to sacrifice a lot of time with my family. With the increasing digital transformation and the change in the procurement landscape, it is possible to develop a sideline without constantly having to leave the house, ”she says.

Seasoned mothers Ms. Tan and Ms. Sim, however, have earned their strips and are now more focused on being with the family.

“Money can be made anytime, and there’s no point making all the money in the world, but you don’t have enough time to spend with loved ones,” says Ms. Tan.

Reach your personal financial goal

Managing your personal finances is the easiest thing in the world, no one ever said.

Because of this, Ms. Liu is very aware of the challenges, especially when she has just started her family and needs to review a 20-year financial plan.

Her goal is to make sure that her family is financially supported, and most importantly, that she has the financial means to help her daughter achieve her goals, regardless of who they are.

[[nid:516766]]]

Being satisfied and happy is a common goal of all mothers, says Ms. Tan.

“As long as there is enough for me and my family, that would be enough. I don’t have to be filthy rich to be happy and content.

“I try my best to make sure there are enough resources for the children. I’ve spent quite a bit on enrichment classes for them – the idea is not just to focus on their studies, because life is more than just studying, ”she says.

When her children were young, she enrolled them in courses that taught life skills like swimming and anything that would help their children expand their knowledge, passion, and interest.

“In any case, the enrichment classes also served as support, so that if my children did not do well in their studies, they could turn to their passions, for example a piano teacher,” adds Ms. Tan.

Share an important lesson about being a super mom

As mothers, they have had a fair amount of learning experience over the years. An important lesson from Ms. Liu is having difficult financial discussions with her other half.

“Do the hard part and you’ll both come out stronger,” she advises.

[[nid:520349]]]

Ms. Tan also shares her key takeaway: “I’m not rich and I don’t have sophisticated resources to manage my finances, but I think there is more to life than being rich.” She also wonders if you really can would be happy to have to save ridiculously (e.g. eat lean meals) to have all the money in the world.

Perhaps the most important and universal advice that applies to both mothers and fathers is that offered by Ms. Sim: “Save as much as you can. Enjoy life, love yourself. Live your life as you only live once. Children are just a phase of your life. Do what you can and always trust yourself. “

The right way to embellish your out of doors area to be enjoyable once more

The right way to embellish your out of doors area to be enjoyable once more

Illustration for article titled How To Decorate Your Outdoor Space To Get Fun AgainPhoto: Photographee.eu (Shutterstock)

Summer is just around the corner and outdoor hangouts are still the perfect way to enjoy (yet another) pandemic summer. With the CDC Lifting Restrictions Vaccinated person wearing masks outdoors is setting a backyard soiree on fire (see what I did there?). If you are lucky enough to have a garden or terrace, you can finally have more comfortable gatherings. However, before calling any vaccinated friends and family members, you should prepare the room and prepare it for a cozy meeting place. Here are some ways to spice up your space for a long-awaited garden party.

Decide what type of entertainment you want to offer

The decoration of your outdoor space should reflect your personality and the company you want to attract. If you and your friends love beer pong and cornhole, you might want to create a space inspired by the beer garden. My friends and family are big movie lovers, so I want to imitate an outdoor movie theme (If I had a back yard). Once you have your theme, it’s time to start decorating.

Choose your furniture

Once you’ve decided on a low key cocktail party theme, there’s no need to buy large patio furniture. a few Adirondack chairsA coffee table and a couple of side tables would be enough. If you’re looking for a comfortable hangout where people can talk for hours and enjoy the summer nights, comfy couch-style cuts are a great choice. Better houses & gardens also suggests buying rugs outdoors for a pop of color and making the space more inviting for longer hangings.

G / O Media can receive a commission

My family loves to dine al fresco so there is a large wooden table in our dream back yard for cooking and a good sturdy umbrella for shade. If you are on a budget, all you need is a nice folding table with a decorative tablecloth. If you’re handy, you can Build your own table– even one with one built-in beverage cooler.

Don’t skimp on the details

Fairy lights are the easiest and most aesthetic way to go to decorate any backyard or patio space. Fairy lights create a mood for any style you’re looking for, but they’re only one detail when it comes to outdoor entertainment.

Speakers are another way to bring the party to the back yard. You can purchase a couple of outdoor bluetooth speakers as a portable option and choose speakers that suit your aesthetic. Some speakers are twice as big as Tiki torches (of course without fire) and others can merge like rocks with the landscape. If you have the budget, you can install too Speaker systems around your garden for a more permanent and integrated music experience.

The sun plays a huge role in your outdoor lounge area. You should therefore design shadow areas for your guests. However, if you buy the smallest pergola yourself, you can make around $ 200. Instead, I suggest treating the space like the beach, creating shade with umbrellas and tent structures. Attach canopy cloths to your outside wall to create a shaded seating area – you can find them online for just $ 19. The home decoration office House beautiful recommends using all white bedding to reflect light and keep your patio cool.

Fire pits are a plus

Roasting marshmallows over the fire is no longer just for camping (for me, it’s all year round). Depending on the space requirements and needs, there are different ways to create a fire pit in your garden. The traditional way requires cement blocks and a bit of masonry. But there are also many fire pits that can be bought online and are ready for immediate use. Hundred dollars What you get is a movable fire pit that burns wood and can be placed anywhere in your yard, as long as the ground is level and you consider protecting your deck or yard.

If you have a city balcony or small outdoor area, you can purchase smoke-free canisters to recreate the feel of a fire pit. Products like City fire are miniature jars that you can use to fry marshmallows and items like Solo stove are larger portable fire pits that are great for camping or moving around in a back yard.
