What to do in case your little one hates faculty

Many young children start loving school in the early years of elementary school but eventually transform into grumbling older children who would rather be somewhere else doing something other than sitting at their desks all day. It’s understandable – the older our kids get, the more pressure they feel academically. The work becomes more difficult and expectations rise. They may find that they clash with a teacher or become the target of a tyrant.

There are many reasons a child might suddenly hate school, but there are some things we can do to ease their frustration or anxiety.

Listen and empathize

When your previously school-loving child first announces that they now actually hates school, your first instinct may be to push the claim back. The answer with “Oh, you don’t mean that”, “You don’t hate school, you just had a bad day” or “But all your friends are there” doesn’t serve anyone.

Think of it this way: When you had a bad day at work and you went home to go to your partner’s house (“I don’t like my boss; I hate this job”) and your partner said, “Come on this is not true. You would not feel properly heard and validated. You are more likely to feel dismissed – and kids feel the same way when we try to convince them that they don’t really feel the way they say they do.

Instead, acknowledge their feelings and get them to open up by writing back what you hear from them, empathizing, and actively listening. Say things like, “It sounds like you’ve had a rough day – do you want to talk about it?” or “That must have been very frustrating; what happened next? ”can encourage them to share their experiences.

G / O Media can receive a commission

Even if you confirm your feelings, be careful not to fuel the fire with emotional responses like, “You’re right – your headmaster can be a real idiot at times; I’m sick of the way he treats you. “This is not productive and, as Sue Browder writes Reader’s Digestwe can actually make certain situations worse by reacting to them, especially if they are already anxious:

Unfortunately, parents can feed a child’s fears through the way they react. With younger children, watch as they say goodbye in the first few days of school. A company “Have a nice day and I’ll pick you up at 2:30 am!” is more confidence-building than “don’t worry, I can be there in ten minutes if you need me”.

Listen and be empathetic – but resist turning emotionally about what you are experiencing.

Try the “magic wand technique”

If the problem is small enough, a magic wand (of some sort) may be all you need to enhance your experience. This idea comes from Alana Pace at Parenthood from the heart::

After listening to your child, express their worries, anger, and fears. First, empathize. Then ask him what would he do if he had a wand that would help him go to school and be in school better? He may choose to make friends, have a better relationship with his teacher, or it could be something simple that makes him feel empowered.

When my son started crying when it was time to go to school, we used this technique. His wand request was for me to wake up with him (I usually stayed in bed when he woke up at 6:30 a.m. until just after 7:00 a.m.). He also asked my husband or me to pack his backpack. These differences alone stopped the months of crying.

And even if the problem is bigger than making a few adjustments to the morning routine, this can be a great way to put the problem first so you can start …

Brainstorm solutions together

If your child hates school simply because it is boring, you can empathize with them, but there are probably few ways you can make it more fun for them. But there are many other reasons for their misery that something can actually be done about.

Sometimes kids hate school because they don’t have friends. If so, you can work on developing their social skills, such as For example, by role-playing at home so they can practice introducing themselves to other children or asking other children to play during break. Or, you can enroll them in an after-school activity that will allow them to meet other children with common interests.

If they hate school because they are having trouble keeping up with work, try to find out why. They may need glasses or tutoring – or they may even have an undiagnosed learning disability. Talk to the teacher about what he noticed in the classroom. If you are conflicting with a teacher or other student to a disruptive degree, it may be time to speak to the teacher or involve the school principal in order to more effectively address the problem.

In keeping with Moderna, early knowledge reveals the Covid vaccine is 96% efficient in youngsters

The Covid-19 vaccine is 96% effective in children ages 12-17, according to early data released with the company’s first quarter results Thursday.

The fledgling biotech, which posted its first quarterly profit, also plans to submit data on its adult vaccine for full approval to the FDA later this month.

Similar to adults, the shot was generally well tolerated in teenagers with no serious safety concerns identified, the company said. The study included more than 3,000 participants.

According to Refinitiv’s average estimates, Moderna has fared compared to Wall Street expectations as follows:

  • EPS: $ 2.84 per share versus $ 2.39 per share expected
  • Revenue: $ 1.94 billion versus $ 2.03 billion expected

Moderna’s Covid-19 vaccine had sales of $ 1.7 billion, according to earnings reports.

The company’s shares were down more than 6% in premarket trading. Covid vaccine maker stocks fell after the Biden government announced late Wednesday that it would waive patent protection for Covid vaccines, citing the global health crisis.

Moderna increased its 2021 sales forecast for its vaccine from $ 18.4 billion previously to $ 19.2 billion. Earlier this week, rival Pfizer also raised its vaccine sales forecast, forecasting total annual sales of $ 26 billion.

Research and development costs were $ 401 million for the quarter, compared to $ 115 million for the same period last year.

“In the first quarter, the Moderna team met its delivery commitments to many governments and helped protect more than 100 million people,” said Stephane Bancel, CEO of Moderna, in a press release. “This achievement led to our first profitable quarter in the company’s history after 10 years of scientific innovation and billions of dollars invested to make our mRNA platform a reality.”

Founded in 2010, Moderna was the second company after Pfizer to receive US approval for its Covid vaccine. A contract for 300 million doses was signed with the US government, which is enough to vaccinate 150 million Americans, since the vaccine requires two doses four weeks apart.

Bancel said Thursday the company is “actively involved” in discussions and agreements for 2022 with any governments it is currently delivering for 2021.

On Wednesday, the company announced that a booster shot of its vaccine triggered a promising immune response against variants B.1.351 and P.1, first identified in South Africa and Brazil. The data are preliminary and have not yet been reviewed by experts.

The new data came as drug makers and scientists said people will likely need a booster shot of Covid-19 vaccines and possibly additional shots each year, just like they did with seasonal flu.

This is a developing story. Please try again.

Are “ugly” product bins actually cheaper than grocery buying?

Are “ugly” product bins actually cheaper than grocery buying?

Illustration for article titled Are Photo: Tatjana Baibakova (Shutterstock)

Do “ugly” product subscriptions actually reduce food waste and save you money compared to shopping at a discount store? Not quiteThat’s mostly marketing – but they’re still relatively cheap, reliable, and a convenient way to get vegetables delivered to your doorstep.

What are ugly product boxes?

The great players are Imperfect foods, Misfit market and Hungry harvestand they’re similar to subscription food boxes like Hello Fresh or Blue Apron, except that, as the names suggest, they focus on misshapen or out of spec items that are otherwise perfectly edible.

As with regular subscription grocery boxes, the groceries you choose (some of these boxes also contain other groceries like meat) are delivered to your doorstep every week. However, you can also opt out and skip weeks.

Do these boxes really reduce food waste?

All three boxes claim to use food that would otherwise be wasted. Imperfect Foods pledges to “help build a kinder, less wasteful world”. Hungry Harvest says they are “eliminating unnecessary and avoidable food waste” and Misfit Markets claims that they are “offering excellent prices on organic products due to inefficiencies within the food system”.

G / O Media can receive a commission

But, as we mentioned earlierAlthough these subscription boxes are dependent on products of the second class, so do food services, food banks and groceries in the lower price range – which also compete in the same place as these subscription boxes. Real “ugly” products are really only made into juice, jam, baked goods, salsa, soups or guacamole.

Food waste is a real problem, of course, but that’s a problem related to overproduction, especially with crops generate a flood of products in a short time and are wasted. Plus, these ugly product boxes make up a tiny part of the grocery market. Whatever the impact of these companies, they are minimal in terms of size.

are these boxes cheaper than a grocery store?

It is comparable to the prices you find in discount grocery chains (as opposed to Wegmans or Whole Foods, for example). There is a Choice of optionsIn general, however, these boxes cost anywhere from $ 20 to $ 30. The shipping cost is about $ 5.

Most reviews suggest that there is a cost over the equal than shopping in a grocery store, although you can get a few breaks here and there for certain items (less for the prepackaged items). This can be seen when I compared Imperfect Foods prices to a discount grocery chain in the same area where the box was delivered:

  • Bag of kale, chopped: 65 cents more expensive
  • Asparagus: 2 dollars cheaper
  • Green pepper: Same price
  • A pound of red potatoes: Same price
  • One avocado: 11 cents cheaper
  • Carrots: 50 cents cheaper
  • One pound of ground chicken: 50 cents more expensive
  • Unhardened Turkey Francs: $ 2 more expensive

Of course, the value also depends on the quality of the products available in your region. So you have to try these boxes out to really know which option is better. Also, consider shipping costs and the inability to make your own selections by hand, as these could potentially negate the savings you would get on grocery prices.

Bottom line

Despite some overhyped marketing, ugly product boxes can still be a good and affordable option if you want the convenience of having products delivered to your doorstep at a reasonable price. For what’s worth it, two Lifehacker employees subscribe to Ugly Product Boxes and are happy with what they get (one says they eat more products, another says it helps plan meals for the week) . So if you think the cost is reasonable, it is definitely worth a try. However, it is unlikely to be a major nuisance in terms of food waste prevention. Or you can save a lot of money.

LONDON – The Bank of England said Thursday the UK economy was on the way to a stronger economic recovery than previously expected, backed up by the country’s comparatively quick Covid-19 vaccination campaign.

The BOE improved its 2021 growth outlook for the world’s fifth largest economy to 7.25%, slightly above analysts’ expectations and up from 5% in February.

This is followed by a 1.5% decline in UK GDP in the first quarter – flatter than expected – and as restrictions on economic activity ease and Covid infections continue to decline in the UK.

In light of these developments, the BOE said GDP was likely to “rise sharply” in the second quarter, while economic output was expected to return to pre-pandemic levels later in the year. The British economy had previously announced that it would recover to pre-pandemic levels in the first quarter of next year.

The UK economy contracted 10% in 2020 – its worst annual performance in more than three centuries. This was more severe compared to most other European economies, partly due to the slower implementation of stringent public health measures to contain the spread of the coronavirus.

The BOE’s Monetary Policy Committee unanimously voted on Thursday to keep interest rates stable and keep its quantitative easing program at current levels as the UK seeks to recover from the ongoing coronavirus crisis.

This means the central bank’s prime rate will remain at an all-time low of 0.1% and the target inventory of asset purchases will remain unchanged at £ 895 billion ($ 1.2 trillion).

The BOE’s better economic forecast comes as the country gradually emerges from lockdown and more people are vaccinated against Covid.

The latest government data showed that there have been more than 50.6 million Covid shots given in the UK to date, with nearly 35 million first doses and 15.8 million second doses given.

“Overly Hawkish”

Prior to the announcement, Deutsche Bank analysts said they expected it to be “a very close call” as to whether the bank had decided to pull the trigger to accelerate the asset buying pace.

Sanjay Raja, senior British economist at Deutsche Bank, said in a research note that a decision on the rejuvenation would most likely be made at the bank’s June meeting, adding that it will do “well” with the lifting of social restrictions would match on June 21st.

Investors were optimistic about the UK’s improving economic outlook. The UK’s FTSE 100 gained 1.8% in the previous session and posted its best daily performance since mid-February. The stock index was last traded 0.1% higher on Thursday.

The pound sterling was up 0.2% against the dollar after the report was released to trade at $ 1.3931 while the euro was up 0.1% against the pound to trade at 86.40 pence.

Fabrice Montagne, chief UK economist at Barclays, told CNBC’s Street Signs Europe on Thursday that the BOE was “one of the most optimistic” central banks even before it raised its economic outlook.

The BOE’s February forecast was at the high end of the consensus range, Montagne said, and increasing its forecast now “risks sounding overly hawkish and potentially encouraging early hikes”.

Dude, get a safety replace to your Dell PC

Dude, get a safety replace to your Dell PC

Do you still have tech from 2009 or something? Maybe an old CPU or motherboard that sits in a box in your closet “just in case” you need a backup? What about a Dell? If you or someone you care about is still using a Dell computer made between the start of Barack Obama’s first term and now, make sure you don’t need an important security update that has just been deleted.

The update resolves a vulnerability with the Windows driver dbutil_2_3.sys, which Dell says may have been installed on your Dell Windows operating system while using Firmware Update Utilities, Dell Command Update, Dell Update, Alienware Update, and Dell System Inventory Agent or Dell Platform Tags, even if you are using a Dell notification solution to update drivers, BIOS, or firmware for your system. “

It is highly recommended that you use a handy Dell utility to remove this driver and install updated software that will prevent the unwanted driver from showing up on your system at a later date. According to Dell, this vulnerability, which has a severity rating of 8.8 out of 10, could result in privilege escalation, denial of service, or information disclosure. (It is worth noting, however, that an attacker would need “locally authenticated access” to their computer in order to take advantage of this vulnerability – either in person or through some form of malware / phishing / RAS exploit.)

First, download and run the Dell Security Advisory Update – DSA-2021-088. usefulnesswho should find and remove dbutil_2_3.sys for you. You can also search for this file manually. It could occur in one of two places:

  • C: Users AppData Local Temp
  • C: Windows Temp

If or when you find the file yourself, just hit Shift + Delete to banish it in the dark.

G / O Media can receive a commission

You can also wait until May 10th and then perform a regular system update with any Dell built-in toolsLike SupportAssist or Dell Update, the DSA-2021-088 utility will be installed and run automatically. You’ll need to run one of these tools anyway to install the newer firmware update mentioned above, which will prevent this older, vulnerable driver from making its way back to your system.

To keep it simple I would probably just wait until May 10th. Find and install any system updates you want Dell to run this week. If it doesn’t, you are in luck and your system is not affected. (You can also check to see if finding your specific Dell system in the 380 affected Dell PCs affects you on this page.)

For security reasons, run your update tools next week, whether or not you find your system on this list. It never hurts to have the latest PC you can get – software and firmware. The silver lining for all of this? According to Dell“The company is unaware that this vulnerability has previously been exploited by malicious actors.” So this is not a type of update, but one that you want to address.

Trade: Ought to You Promote and Go Away in Might ?, Cash Information

You may have heard of the famous saying on the stock market that goes:

None

With May coming up, are you wondering whether you should really sell and take a break from the stock market in May?

We got you covered, buddy!

What is Sell in May and Go Away?

The famous saying goes that we should sell stocks when the warm weather starts in May and only invest again when the cold weather starts in November (the “summer months”).

Investors believe that the lack of market participants (likely due to vacation breaks) at the onset of warm weather can lead to a weak market period.

On the contrary, the months between Halloween and May 1st (the “winter months”) lead to better stock market results.

The graph below shows that the “sell in May and leave” strategy seems to be working. The May to October period lagged behind the November to April period for the S&P 500 index, which tracks around 500 of the top US companies in leading industries.

More recently, the index rose 28 percent from late October 2020 to late April 2021.

Trade: Ought to You Promote and Go Away in Might ?, Cash Information

And it seems ripe for the market to take a breather for the next six months, which will entice you to sell your stocks so you can buy back later at a lower price.

However, timing the market is never easy.

Dancing in and out is catastrophic

If investors had sold out last May, they would surely bring themselves to their knees.

[[nid:527639]]]

The S&P 500 index increased by around 16 percent from May to October 2020.

We would never know what the coming month will look like, and neither would any future May.

Research studies have shown time and time again that a market absence and lack of the best market days can significantly reduce returns in the long run.

For example, according to Morningstar, if an investor had been fully invested from 1996 to 2016, $ 10,000 would have grown to a cool $ 44,000. This is around eight percent on an annual basis.

However, the lack of just five of the best days (out of the 20 years) would have cut the annualized return to six percent, or a huge difference of $ 14,785.

If the investor had missed the 10 best days, the average return would have halved to about $ 22,000.

old

Another study, which ran from 2000 to 2020 and included the market crash caused by Covid-19, showed similar results.

old

Focus on the business

Instead of timing the market and depositing stocks when May comes, let’s ignore the old Wall Street adage and focus on the things that matter.

[[nid:526070]]]

That is, the business behind a company’s share price.

The idea is to invest in fundamentally strong companies at reasonable valuations and hold them for long periods of time regardless of what the market is doing.

The stock market can fall from time to time, including during the “sell and go away in May” period. But that’s exactly how the market behaves – it’s inherently volatile.

Indeed, if the stock market corrects itself in May and the following months, this could actually be a great buying opportunity to position our portfolio for the long term – just like in March 2020.

Rice vinegar (or rice wine vinegar) is a staple ingredient used in a wide variety of Asian dishes, and there are many different types. It’s much milder than white vinegar (at about half the acidity), can be made from white, brown, black, or red rice, and it can also be flavored with other ingredients like sugar, salt, and MSG. Seasoned rice vinegar makes a great one Two ingredient cucumber, a bomb salad dressing, and exquisite sushi rice (although it’s good on any rice in my opinion).

The taste of white rice vinegar can vary depending on the style – Japanese rice vinegars tend to be more sensitive than their Chinese counterparts. Brown rice vinegar is made from unpolished brown rice and has a darker, roasted color and a few other nutrients.

Red rice vinegar is made from fermented rice, which gives it its color and slight sweetness. Some brands have a distinctive wine-like taste. According to The woks of lifeRed rice vinegar is “probably the least used type of rice vinegar in Chinese cuisine,” but it has some very specific, very delicious uses, such as: B. roasted Chinese pigeons, dipping sauces and as a finisher for soups.

Black rice vinegar is made from fermented black sticky rice (or sticky rice) and other grains like sorghum, millet, and / or wheat. There are Chinese black rice vinegar and Japanese black rice vinegars, and both have a distinct smoky taste and a deep, dark color. It’s a fantastic seasoning – just sprinkle on top and you’re good to go – as well as a great base to dip sauces and stir fries together.

“I met Beyoncé a few years ago and she actually said to me, ‘It was the Spice Girls who inspired me and made me do what I do and made myself proud to be a girl I’m proud to be who I am, “she recalled. “And when someone like Beyoncé, who is so iconic and such a strong woman, says she was inspired by the Spice Girls, I think that’s very special.”

India’s Covid-19 cases soared to daily record highs in April, and experts warn that the country’s deepening health crisis could undo efforts to end the global pandemic.

The South Asian country, which is home to around 1.4 billion people, or 18% of the world’s population, was responsible for 46% of new Covid cases worldwide last week, the World Health Organization said on Wednesday. One in four deaths in the past week came from India, the UN health department said.

India has reported more than 300,000 new cases daily for the past two weeks, overtaking Brazil in April to become the second worst infected country in the world. According to the Ministry of Health, the cumulative coronavirus infections in India reached around 20.67 million on Wednesday with more than 226,000 deaths. However, several studies of India’s data found that cases were likely severely underreported.

There are already Signs that India’s outbreak is spreading to other countries. Neighbors Nepal and Sri Lanka have also reported spikes in infections, while other regional economies such as Hong Kong and Singapore have imported Covid cases from India.

So the coronavirus crisis in India could turn into a bigger global problem.

Possible new Covid variants

Prolonged large outbreaks in any country could increase the possibility of new variants of Covid-19, health experts warned. Some of the variants could elude immune responses triggered by vaccines and previous infections.

“Here’s the bottom line: we know there are variations in major outbreaks. And so far our vaccines are holding up, we’re seeing a few breakthrough infections, but not a lot,” said Dr. Ashish Jha, dean of Brown University School of Public Health, told CNBC’s “The News with Shepard Smith”.

“But India is a big country, and of course if there are big outbreaks there we will all be concerned about other variants that are bad for Indians and of course spread around the world,” he added.

India first discovered variant B.1.617 in October last year – also known as the “double mutant”. The variant has now been reported in at least 17 countries, including the US, UK and Singapore.

The WHO has classified the B.1.617 as an interesting variant, suggesting that the mutated strain may be more contagious, deadly, and more resistant to current vaccines and treatments. The organization said more study is needed to understand the meaning of the variant.

Global vaccine supply at risk

India is a major vaccine maker, but the domestic health crisis has prompted authorities to stop exporting Covid-19 vaccines as the country prioritizes its domestic needs.

The Serum Institute of India (SII) – the country’s main producer – has the right to manufacture the Covid vaccine jointly developed by AstraZeneca and the University of Oxford. Part of the production is planned for Covax, the global initiative to supply poor countries with Covid vaccines.

Developing countries are lagging behind advanced countries in securing vaccine supplies in what the WHO has called a “shocking imbalance” in distribution.

Delaying vaccine exports through India could therefore leave lower-income countries vulnerable to new coronavirus outbreaks.

Threat to the global economy

India is the sixth largest economy in the world and is a major contributor to global growth.

Some economists have downgraded their growth forecasts for India. However, they remained optimistic about the outlook for the economy for the year as the restrictions to curb the spread of the virus were more targeted compared to the strict nationwide lockdown last year.

The International Monetary Fund expected the Indian economy to grow 12.5% in the fiscal year ended March 2022 last month, after shrinking 8% in the previous fiscal year.

However, the renewed outbreak in India has resulted in several countries tightening travel restrictions – and that’s bad news for airlines, airports and other companies that depend on the travel industry, said Uma Kambhampati, an economics professor at the University of Reading in the USA United Kingdom

Meanwhile, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce has warned that India’s health crisis could weigh on the U.S. economy, Reuters reported. According to the report, many U.S. companies are hiring millions of Indian workers to perform their back office operations.

“With all these problems and the spreading humanitarian crisis, it has become imperative for the world to act quickly to help India, whether or not such aid is requested,” said Kambhampati in a report published on The Conversation has been published. Profit website with comments from academics and researchers.
