US stock futures were flat before the bell on Thursday after two major economic reports. The S&P 500 crossed 4,500 for the first time ever on Wednesday but ended up slightly below that level for another record high. The Nasdaq ended with another record. Both benchmarks were on a winning streak of five sessions that went outdoors. The Dow Jones Industrial Average had its fourth consecutive positive session, nearing last week’s record high – about 0.6% away. Dow stock Salesforce rose 2% early Thursday morning after reporting better-than-expected quarterly earnings and sales and robust forward guidance.

2. Unemployment claims, GDP data ahead of the Fed summit

The 10-year government bond yield rose Thursday, a day after hitting its highest level in weeks. Traders received the latest figures on weekly unemployment claims and economic growth.

  • In the week ending August 21, new applications totaled 353,000.
  • The government’s second look at gross domestic product for the second quarter came in slightly below estimates at an annual rate of 6.6%.
  • Taken together, the reports show an economy growing from the pandemic, despite concerns about soaring cases of the Covid Delta variant.

Several regional Federal Reserve presidents speak ahead of Fed chief Jerome Powell’s Friday speech ahead of the Jackson Hole, Wyoming virtual summit Thursday. Kansas City Fed President Esther George said it was time for the central bank to cut its policy incentives.

3. Covid hospital admissions of children rise to the highest level in the US

New Covid hospital admissions for children have reached their highest level since the US started tracking pediatric cases about a year ago. Doctors warn that if schools reopen and the fast-paced Delta variant pushes infections higher, things could get worse. While Delta is more contagious than previous variants, leading to an increase in pediatric hospital admissions, it does not appear to cause any more serious illness in children so far. Children still make up a small number of hospital admissions at 1.8%. Of more than 520,000 Covid deaths for which the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has demographic data, fewer than 500 were children under the age of 18.

4. Great Britain reports “high threat” of a terrorist attack on Kabul airport

Evacuees wait to board a Boeing C-17 Globemaster III during an evacuation at Hamid Karzai International Airport in Kabul, Afghanistan, on August 23, 2021.

UK officials warn of a “very credible” threat of an attack on Kabul airport by Islamic State militants. The terrorist alert comes as massive evacuation efforts enter their final stages and countries seek to evacuate people from Taliban-controlled Afghanistan before President Joe Biden’s August 31 deadline. Up to 1,500 Americans are still waiting to be evacuated from Afghanistan, Foreign Minister Antony Blinken said on Wednesday at his first press conference since the Afghan government was overthrown by the Taliban more than a week ago.

Manually change the time, date, and time zone in your swap

There are many reasons to change the system clock on your Nintendo Switch. Maybe you’re playing with friends in a different time zone and don’t want to do the math when planning multiplayer sessions, or you might be taking the handheld console with you on a trip and having to set the clock while globetrotting.

But the most likely reason people would want to change the clock on their Switch is to perform “time travel” exploits in the game. Many titles like Animal Crossing: New Horizons have date- or time-specific events tied to your date, time, or time zone. If you set your clock, you can see this content even if you miss it that day, or See what your island will turn into Months or years into the future. In some cases, you can even bypass in-game timers so you can skip waiting times, fast-forward to unlock new content, or even just change small details – like the day or time you caught a Pokémon in Pokémon Sword and Shield.

(Note: changing the clock on your Switch to unlock eShop games ahead of time will likely not work. However, you can buy games from another country’s eShop and play ahead of time if the release date is earlier than your part of the world. )

The Time Travel exploit doesn’t work in every game, mind you, but it’s common enough that it might be worth checking out. It’s pretty easy to draw too:

  1. Go to on the home screen Settings> System> Date and Time.
  2. Set the date, time and time zone manually.
  3. Choose “OK” to save your changes.

To reset the clock on your switch to your local time:

  1. Go back to System Settings> System> Date and Time
  2. Choose “Synchronize the clock via the Internet.”

What to do if you cannot change the clock using the parental controls

You cannot turn off the Nintendo Switch’s “Internet Sync Clock” option while your Switch is linked to the Nintendo Switch Mobile Parental Control app. You can remove your console from the app if you really want to change the clock. Note, however, that you will lose the remotes and functions of the Nintendo Switch Parental Control app until your devices are reconnected. That’s how it’s done:

  • On the Switch’s home screen, go to System settings> Parental controls. Choose “Log off the app”, Then follow the instructions on the screen to complete the process.
  • You can also unlink the app from your console in the mobile app. Open the app, tap the “+” then tap “The information” next to the console that you want to unlink. Choose “Sign out” and follow the instructions on the screen.

Once the app is unlinked, you can manually change the date, time, and time zone on your Nintendo Switch using the steps above.

Google and Microsoft plan to spend billions on cybersecurity after assembly Biden

0

Business leaders in sectors ranging from technology to insurance pledged billions of dollars to step up cybersecurity efforts at a White House meeting with President Joe Biden on Wednesday.

The meeting comes in the wake of several high profile cyberattacks, including those on state software company SolarWinds and the Colonial Pipeline, which have made such security issues even more pressing.

Commitments range from working on new industry standards to providing stronger security tools for other companies to training workers to fill the roughly 500,000 vacant U.S. cybersecurity jobs. Biden recently signed an executive order requiring US authorities to use two-factor authentication for logins, which can help prevent cyberattacks.

The White House said Apple will create a program dedicated to improving security in its technology supply chains, including working with suppliers to introduce multi-factor authentication and security training.

Google said it will invest more than $ 10 billion over five years to strengthen cybersecurity and promised to train 100,000 Americans in technical areas like IT support and data analysis as part of its career certificate program. Google’s financial commitment will be used to strengthen the software supply chain and open source security, among other things.

Microsoft has allocated $ 20 billion over five years to provide more advanced security tools, CEO Satya Nadella tweeted after the meeting. He added that Microsoft will invest $ 150 million to help government agencies update their security systems and develop cybersecurity training partnerships. Microsoft has spent $ 1 billion annually on cybersecurity since 2015.

IBM said it will train more than 150,000 people in cybersecurity skills in three years, while working with traditionally black colleges and universities to help diversify its workforce. The company also announced a new data storage solution for critical infrastructure businesses and said it was working to develop secure encryption methods for quantum computing.

IBM CEO Arvind Krishna told CNBC ahead of the meeting and in front of the White House on Wednesday that cybersecurity was “the topic of the decade”. He said he hoped for better coordination between the public and private sectors emerging from the meeting and said IBM would do its part to support professionals in the field.

Amazon Web Services, Amazon’s cloud computing division, plans to provide account holders with free multifactor authentication devices to better protect their data. There are also plans to offer “safety awareness training” to organizations and individuals.

A spokesman for financial services firm TIAA pointed to several ongoing initiatives being taken to train more cybersecurity workers. This includes a partnership with New York University that enables TIAA employees to complete a fully reimbursed master’s degree in cybersecurity.

Leaving the White House, JPMorgan Chase CEO Jamie Dimon called the meeting “a very productive, collaborative discussion.”

“Hopefully we will follow up and do a good job of protecting our country from a really complex problem,” he said.

Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella said the event “brought the right people together to have a good discussion.”

Two water company executives who left the meeting told CNBC that the discussion emphasized collaboration between sectors. American Water CEO Walter Lynch said there was an “understanding that we must work together to tackle the country’s cyber threats.”

What’s coming (and leaving) Netflix in September 2021?

Image for article titled What's New on Netflix in September 2021

Screenshot: Kate / Netflix

There was a time when you could count the big blockbuster action films with women on one hand. In a jaw-dropping reflection on how things are changing in Hollywood, now you probably need to use both hands – and in fact, we are so advanced that women can now lay claim to an extremely problematic, culturally fetishistic shoot-em – on their own .

Yes, on September 10th, Netflix will release Kate, in which Scott Pilgrim vs. Mary Elizabeth Winstead from the world is an assassin who is poisoned during her last mission (when else?) And only has a few hours to hunt down her killers before it comes up and dies (this is one of those special movie poisons that apparently leaves you with no ill effects until it kills you). It looks incredibly cool – Winstead, an actress I adore, seems to have had a fondness for the action genre – or would if the trailer for the Japan-set flick wasn’t peppered with the kind of orientalism that an- racism that I thought we had left behind in the early 1990s when Japanese businessmen stopped being treated in every film as an acronym for a threat to American domination.

By Cedric Nicolas-Troyan, Kate, the director of the second film Snow White and the Huntsman, looks like a frenetic cross between John Wick and Crank and is at least as entertaining as the recent Netflix assassin film Gunpowder Milkshake, but it’s a real warning sign if your movie’s villain is is mentioned simply as “the yakuza”, the trusted East Asian boogeyman in films for western audiences. Maybe the end result doesn’t reduce an entire country to a series of tropes, I don’t know. Given the director calls it his “love letter to Japan”. it really could go one way or the other.

This is where everything else comes to streamer this month, including a new He-Man animated series (September 16) – a different one this time – and additional seasons of streaming favorites like Love on the Spectrum, Nailed It! and reality sensations. The circle.

House Looking In Good Class Bungalow (GCB): Confessions From Brokers, Cash Information

0

For most of us, owning a home (usually a condo) is a status symbol. For rich people it is owning a good class bungalow (GCB). In just two months, tech CEOs from Razer, Grab, Secretlab, and TikTok made headlines for the same thing: the purchase of a GCB.

With all this news, we asked ourselves: What is the process of looking for an apartment for GCB buyers? What unique requirements are you looking for? So we ask two agents to share with us.

What is a good class bungalow (GCB) and what makes it so special?

Good class bungalows are the most attractive and prestigious country houses in Singapore. What makes them very popular is their location and size criteria.

For example, they are only found in 39 GCB areas such as Nassim Road and Bin Tong Park.

To qualify as a GCB, the property must also be at least 1,400 square meters (approximately 15,070 sq ft) of land, which together equates to 2,800 GCB lots in Singapore.

In addition, the maximum height may be two storeys without the attic and basement in order to preserve the exclusivity and the low-rise character of the quarters.

These criteria make them even rarer and more prestigious in the area of Singapore.

And since they are mostly freely owned, they can also be passed on to the next generation, ideal for preserving wealth.

Who bought the good class bungalows?

They’re going to scream about Macaulay Culkin’s most shocking roles

0

Based on a real twist of events, Culkin played “King of the Club Kids” Michael Aligwho spent nearly 17 years in prison for manslaughter after he and Robert “Freeze” Riggs killed and dismembered another New York nightlife lover Andre “Angel” Melendez in 1996. Riggs was also in jail for manslaughter.

To prepare for the role, Culkin visited Alig behind bars and told the story Barbara Walters 2003: “We spent four hours in jail. I had never been in jail before. I just listened and watched his hands move … He made me, the wild and crazy guy, the ‘Michael Alig’ -Act staged. “

When asked if he also had a dark side, the then 25-year-old actor said: “You can say that. But not nearly as dark as him. That vicious little, you know, blond-haired kid who makes everyone trouble. “

He also reminded Bunny Ears of the glam rock look that was essential for Michael: “I always felt pretty, but that’s when I learned that I’m actually pretty. It was worth it and I looked great. “

Culkin, who appeared in his first film since Richie Rich, acknowledged his long hiatus from the limelight, telling Walters, “I don’t want to do what I did before on the line … you loved to have built an industry out of me. It was just this really strange dynamic that I think made me feel uncomfortable for much of my young life. I’m not one of those people who need that satisfaction like 10 films a year … I’m just trying to be an artist. “

Cease washing your nonstick pan this typically (however do that as a substitute)

0

Photo: Tacar (Shutterstock)

I’m not one of those people who use their cast iron pan for anything. I understand it is possible, and I understand that a properly seasoned cast iron pan is a slippery beauty, but I’m a little lazy and will always have a non-stick pan in my arsenal, mostly for egg-making purposes.

Non-stick pans, whether Teflon-coated or PFOA-free, are simple (a mood I know all too well). They are easy to cook and easy to clean; they can be seasoned (similar to cast iron) but most likely not necessary, especially if you are economical with washing.

Why you shouldn’t wash your nonstick pan so often

There are some non-stick pans (like the GreenPan) that seem to work perfectly well in the dishwasher, but some non-stick coatings – Teflon in particular – react poorly to these hot, aggressive conditions. The combination of detergent, water pressure, and salts can cause the coating to break off, resulting in sticky or flaky pans.

I rarely use soap and water on my pan unless I’m dealing with something really stubborn (like this one) Cream fried eggwho have a strong affinity for Teflon for some reason). Instead of washing after each use, I wipe the pan with a paper towel or sponge while it’s still hot. If that doesn’t help, I put the pan back on the stove, heat it up a bit, and then wipe it out with a damp paper towel or sponge – a little “steam cleaning” if you want. This is how my mother used to clean her non-stick pans, which I thought was “weird” when I was younger because I thought that everything my mother did between the ages of 13 and 22 was “weird”.

If steam isn’t enough, gently scrub it with a nonabrasive sponge and something cold soapy water, but the steam works about 94% of the time. This friendlier, gentler approach will extend the life of your nonstick pan and keep that coating happy.

The Singapore International Minister says discovering the origins of Covid requires transparency

0

SINGAPORE – It is important to know the origins of the Covid-19 pandemic – but that would not be possible without “radical and complete transparency,” said Singapore Foreign Minister Vivian Balakrishnan.

“Let me speak as a scientist or as a doctor: what we need is radical and complete transparency. “Balakrishnan told CNBC’s” Squawk Box Asia “on Thursday.

“It is important, the etiology is important, not for political or diplomatic reasons – it is for the future. We need to know how these things happen, where the next outbreak will take place, what the likely dynamics of these future pandemics will be. ” he added.

Balakrishnan was a doctor before entering politics two decades ago. In May, the minister told CNBC that Covid is endemic and will not go away entirely – an assessment increasingly shared by governments and health officials around the world.

The virus that caused Covid infections first appeared in the Chinese city of Wuhan in late 2019.

An international team of scientists led by the World Health Organization said in February that the coronavirus “most likely” originated from animals before it spreads to humans. The WHO proposed a second phase of investigation to see if the virus could have escaped from a Chinese laboratory – but China rejected the plan.

In May, President Joe Biden gave US intelligence 90 days to continue investigating the origin of the virus and to report the results. The deadline was Tuesday. China also criticized Biden’s move and accused the US of scapegoating, Reuters reported.

Balakrishnan said it was “in the collective interest of all humanity” to know the origins of the virus.

“I just wish we could take the politics and rivalry between the superpowers out and focus only on science, health and people’s well-being,” the minister said.

Singapore is approaching 80% vaccination rate

Domestically, nearly 80% of Singapore’s 5.69 million residents have been fully vaccinated against Covid – and that has allowed the country to ease social distancing measures and ease border restrictions this month.

However, Balakrishnan said he was “very reluctant” to say the country had turned the tide. He warned that the situation could change and that requires “eternal vigilance”.

“Even at 80%, that’s still a million people without vaccines. And so … as we try to gradually and safely reopen society and reopen our borders, we are going to have quite a struggle to keep the numbers down, ”he said.

Singapore has adjusted social distancing measures several times in recent months as the more transferable Delta variant spreads across the city-state.

As of Wednesday, the Southeast Asian country has reported more than 66,800 Covid infections and 52 deaths, data from the Ministry of Health showed.

Peta Murgatroyd “Full of Remorse” after the dying of Serge Onik

0

Dance with the stars Map Murgatroyd expresses her grief over the death of the dancer and choreographer Serge Onik.

On Wednesday August 25, Peta took to Instagram to share a carousel of photos of the former So You Think You Can dance contestant, including several shots of the two together. Serge, who worked with Peta and her husband, Maksim Chmerkovskiy, in choreography for DWTS, was 33 years old, and his agent confirmed E! News on Tuesday, August 24th, although further details were not publicly disclosed.

“My Serge … my koala, I can’t believe it, I’m completely broken,” wrote Peta. “I am full of regret because I wanted to text you and tell you that I missed you last week and that it never crossed my mind. I hate how I forgot. I will always hate myself for it. My heart hurts, my eyes hurt and my soul burns to squeeze you one last time. I just need one last push and one last match fight like before. “

How you can repair your sparse eyebrows if you wish to

0

In case you somehow missed the memo, big, bushy brows are in and have been for several years. There are all kinds of makeup products and procedures out there that can help achieve full, luxurious brows – or the illusion of them – even with the sparse facial hair, but how do you even know where to start? Let’s start small and work our way up to the big things – just like the eyebrow trends have done for the past 20 years.

How to fill in your eyebrows with makeup

There is no shortage of eyebrow products in the modern makeup market, but some are better than others. Certain brands like Anastasia Beverly Hills and To use, are known for their brow enhancers, so that’s where you can begin your search for the perfect brow pencil, powder, pomade or stamp.

I come to you today in the first person and live my truth as a natural blonde with very little body hair. It rules – mostly. When it comes to my legs, I’m thrilled, but my brows are a different story. I tried everything. My favorite brow pencil is from Gucci. My favorite powder is from NYX. Expensive doesn’t always mean better (although sometimes it definitely does), so don’t be afraid to play around with brands from the lower to the upper end of your budget.

My problem is a complete lack of hair on my forehead, but if you only have light or sparse hair you might find an eyebrow gel like Services Give me a forehead or Glossiers Boy Brow works well enough to define and puff your hair. Many salons also offer eyebrow tinting, which will temporarily tint your brows for about three weeks. Check out Groupon.

Some brands like Germany and Etude houseto sell tints at home. These are applied in a thick, almost sticky layer, develop and deposit long-lasting pigments as they dry, and leave a soft color after they are peeled off. Sleep in it for extra pizzazz, but don’t forget to peel off the dark, crusty layer before leaving the house.

No matter what make-up you choose, apply it in up and down strokes. Blocky “Instagram browbones” are no longer in vogue, so don’t treat your brows like a coloring book by filling them in with a solid line and cutting underneath with concealer – luckily we left that behind in 2016 for most of yours Focusing Pigments on the outer tail and keeping it lighter towards your nose by mimicking strokes of hair with a small pencil in that area.

Consider semi-permanent makeup

Don’t let the prospect of microblading put you off. The process of tattooing semi-permanent pigments on your face has really advanced in recent years. Maybe you have an aunt or old teacher who used to contract unnatural looking microblading and they looked constantly surprised and noticeably tattered, and it put you off the process for a lifetime. Reconsider that fear.

Open Instagram and look for the microblading hashtag. The final look has dimension. Depending on what you’re paying for and how experienced your technician is, you can get a “3-D” (or even “6-D” or “7-D”) effect with hair strokes or lines that don’t look like a block fill in, but real hair. It is important that you spend a lot of time here finding a budding doctor, reviewing their before and after photos, and understanding that you will look crusty, puffy, and questionable for a few days to a week after the procedure. But I’ve been doing this for years and have noticed a huge difference in technical skills and process outcome since my inception.

The process hurts a little, although you usually need to marinate in a topical numbing cream for a while before starting. Your doctor will map your face and draw a suggested outline, show it to you for approval, and get down to business. Depending on which procedure you choose, the ink deposition can be based solely on a tattoo gun or involve real shaving cuts. (Slicing doesn’t hurt much when you’re numb, but you will hear it and it can turn your stomach. Buck up, kid!) You are given a gel to rub the marks as they heal and after your first Visit may be a catch-up appointment required.

Or you could actually go under the knife

It may seem extreme, but if you really don’t have any eyebrow hair, don’t like applying makeup every morning, don’t have microblading touch-ups every year or two, and have $ 8,000 to $ 15,000 left, you can get an eyebrow transplant.

DR. Marc duration, a Los Angeles-based specialist who has performed eyebrow transplants for 15 years and performed more than 2,000 of the procedures, explained what happens: “You come in in the morning and we develop the shape, and then I mark the shape. I remove the hair from the back of your scalp using a technique called FUE, which stands for Follicular Unit Extraction. I pull out one at a time so there are no stitches and no cutting … I numb you in the back and do my extractions and when I finish my harvest I make small incisions in the eyebrow and we place the grafts one at a time. “

Anyone can be a good candidate for an eyebrow transplant that simply relocates real hair that actually grows right there on your face. People with previous scars from microblading or other facial trauma may retain less hair but still see results, the doctor said. Be warned, however, that after the procedure, hair will gradually fall out, then grow back and the full result will be visible after around nine or 10 months.

Duration pointed out that here you get what you pay for. He said there are “thousands upon thousands of clinics, not even doctors, who do hair transplants.” As with microblading, you need to take plenty of time to research your doctor, look at before and after photos, attend a consultation, and prepare to spend more for better results.

It will take you some time figuring out what works for you, your budget, face shape, and schedule, but anyone can have beautiful brows – even if you start with very little.
