Goldman Sachs has improved its forecasts for the UK economy in 2021 and now sees them outperform the US

The UK composite PMI (Purchasing Managers’ Index) for April rose from 56.4 in March to 60.0, its highest level since November 2013 and a much stronger increase than expected as the country begins a gradual exit from nationwide lockdowns.

Retail sales also far exceeded expectations in March, up 5.4% from the previous month, while a GfK survey found that UK consumer sentiment rose to its highest level since the pandemic this month.

“In addition, the growth in cases in Covid has remained modest and the introduction of vaccines has taken off with half the vaccinated population. We therefore see the plans to reopen the government as on schedule. Phase 3 is scheduled for May 17th begin, “said Chief European Economist Sven Jari Stehn said in a research report Sunday evening.

“As a result, we expect very strong growth for the April and May data and remain satisfied with our (non-annualized) growth forecast of 5.5% for the second quarter,” added Stehn.

Almost 33.7 million people have now received their first dose of vaccine in the UK, with daily Covid-19 cases steadily falling to 1,712 on Sunday.

The UK’s monthly GDP rose 0.4% in February, which was roughly in line with expectations. Following the recent upward revisions in real GDP and last week’s strong indicators, Goldman Sachs has now raised its growth forecast to an overall “remarkable” 7.8% in 2021.

In February, the Wall Street titan raised its forecasts for US growth in 2021 to 6.8%, while the International Monetary Fund is currently forecasting 6.4% growth in the US and 5.3% in the UK

The UK economy contracted 9.9% in 2020, according to the Bureau of National Statistics. This was the largest annual decline since the Great Freeze of 1709, when the country was forced into strict lockdown measures longer than many of its European counterparts.

U.S. GDP contracted 3.5% in 2020, the biggest drop since 1946 when the U.S. was demobilized after World War II.

Replacement of mobility from GDP

Stehn’s view was endorsed over the weekend by JPMorgan economist Allan Monks, who noted that a gradual detachment of mobility measures from economic output bodes well for the UK’s economic recovery. This would mean the country’s GDP growth is more likely to stay on track even without a full return to office work and carefree travel.

“The link between the two has weakened over time in sectors with higher and lower social contact. However, the relationship between workplace mobility and the economy as a whole, ie where social contact is lowest, is weakest,” said Monks in one Research paper.

“Coupled with survey results showing a sharp rise in expectations of households and businesses for the future, this increases our confidence that a significant recovery in GDP is possible without a full normalization of mobility.”

Use any new Google Meet function introduced this week

Google recently unveiled several new Google Meet featuresThese include a reorganized web interface with new pin controls, a new data- and battery-friendly saver mode for mobile users and a number of new video functions.

Some are now available to everyone, others are only available to Workspace users, and some won’t be available until later this year. Here’s a quick rundown of everything Google announced for Google Meet this week, when each feature will be available, and how to use the new content released so far.

New web user interface

First on our list, the Google Meet web app has a new user interface. The overall experience has been improved several times, but the most immediate change will affect the Google Meet button layout.

Google moved all of the Meet buttons to the bottom of the screen. This includes the meeting chat, attachments, and attendee list, which are now in the lower right corner. The End Call button and camera and microphone switches are now on opposite ends of the main control bar, so you won’t accidentally leave or end a call when you turn your microphone or video on or off.

Hide or resize your own video feed

Now, if you’re talking about turning off your video, you can hide, move, or resize your video feed before the call. This only affects your screen. You can still see the other participants if you minimize your video. However, it is not visible on your side.

  1. Hover over your video to bring up the grid controls.
  2. Click the Minimize icon in the menu to hide your video.
  3. You can click and drag your minimized feed onto the screen or click the double arrow icon to expand your video and switch to picture-in-picture mode.

Smarter tile pinning and multiple pinning

There are also new pinning options that you can apply to other moderators in the meeting. You can now hover over a presented tile and then click the pin icon to return to the grid view, where all video tiles are the same size. This also works when you are sharing a presentation on the screen.

Google also previewed the plans for multiple pinning so you can highlight multiple video tiles in an expanded view. This functionality will be introduced later this year.

Economy mode for cell phones

Google Meet users on Android and iOS can activate “Saver Mode” to reduce battery power, mobile data and CPU resources that the app needs. While this affects the video quality and performance of Meet, it is useful when you need to extend battery life or limit the use of background data. Economy mode is now being introduced.

To enable Google Meet saver mode on Android and iOS:

  1. Open Google Meet.
  2. Tap the three-dot menu button.
  3. Choose the settingsThen scroll down and turn on “Limit data usage.”

Video enhancements

Finally, Google also announced a number of video enhancement features planned for Meet. These aren’t available yet, but Google has previewed the launches scheduled for later this year.

  • Automatic lighting for the desktop: The low-light mode of the Google Meet mobile app will be added to the web version for all desktop users in the coming weeks. The brightness of your video is automatically adjusted to suit your surroundings. For example, the video will be darker if you are in a sunlit room, or the picture will be brightened as soon as the sun goes down.
  • AI auto zoom: Similar to the automatic lighting adjustments, Google Meet has an AI-powered auto-zoom function that keeps the image centered on you. This will be available to Google Workspace subscribers in the coming months.
  • Video backgrounds: These are animated backgrounds that obscure the room you are in – similar to using a static wallpaper or Google Meet’s background blur. Google will publish three backgrounds in the coming months: a forest scene, a classroom and a virtual party. Google plans to add more after the first three. So far, however, there are no plans to allow users to upload their own videos.

The UAE may keep on the UK’s crimson journey record indefinitely, creating confusion

The UAE may keep on the UK’s crimson journey record indefinitely, creating confusion

Dubai is known for its modern architecture, including the Burj Khalifa, which is almost twice as tall as the Empire State Building at 2,700 feet.

DUBAI, United Arab Emirates – The United Arab Emirates’ potentially indeterminate status on the UK’s “Red List” for travel has created anger and confusion, made more uncertain by recent statements from the UK government.

UK Transport Secretary Grant Shapps pointed out that due to its status as an international transport hub, the UAE could remain on the UK red list despite falling infection trends and the world’s second fastest vaccination campaign.

“We are not restricting the UAE due to the coronavirus level in the UAE,” Shapps said at an aviation event on Wednesday. “The problem is that of transit.”

The comments were sharply criticized by Emirates President Tim Clark: “It makes no sense to keep us on the ‘Red List’ for transit reasons, as (passengers) can easily pass through other hubs,” he said at a recent online event. “It puts our operations in the UK at risk for Emirates. It’s a shame if they keep us on the red list.”

Inclusion on the UK Red List comes at a high price and has real ramifications for the 120,000 Britons living in the Gulf State and their families. Anyone entering the UK from a Red List country must be quarantined in a government approved hotel and pay their own room and board expenses for 10 days at a cost of £ 1,750 (US $ 2,428) per person.

“When someone asks me about my home, I cry,” said a British national who works in Dubai and has not seen her family in the UK since mid-2020.

“The ambiguity is unbearable,” said the source, who asked not to be identified due to job restrictions. “It is much easier to find and maintain a balance in your life when you have a plan in place. Changing positions in the UK makes this impossible and is so detrimental to people’s wellbeing.”

People are waiting for their turn to be vaccinated against the coronavirus on February 3, 2021 at a vaccination center at the Dubai International Financial Center in the Gulf emirate of Dubai. The UAE has administered more than a quarter of at least three million doses to its population.

The UK’s red list, banning air travel or imposing costly quarantine on arrival, currently lists 40 high-risk countries considered too dangerous to travel, including India, where new infections have skyrocketed to over 300,000 cases per day are.

The UAE remains on the list, although infection rates drop to around 2,000 cases per day. Abu Dhabi has now put Great Britain on its own “green” list of travel destinations.

CNBC has asked the UK’s Foreign Commonwealth Office for comment.

Growing support

A petition to remove the UAE from the UK Red List had received over 8,500 signatures on April 26, amid growing frustration over travel restrictions and quarantine costs on one of the world’s busiest air routes.

“I want the government to remove the United Arab Emirates (UAE) from the red list by the summer so that travelers can visit the safe country without being quarantined in a hotel on their return,” wrote petitioner Mikael Aziz.

The UK government must respond if the petition receives 10,000 or more signatures.

“You need to rethink Dubai’s red list. Most of the UK citizens who work there are fully vaccinated and should be allowed to travel to the UK. You could have a PCR test before and when you arrive.” Twitter user @ DawnWilson2606 tweeted to British Prime Minister Boris Johnson.

Any decision to remove the UAE from the Red List is made even more difficult by the different restrictions between Abu Dhabi and Dubai. The UAE’s most populous emirates have enforced separate access, travel, testing, and quarantine rules since the pandemic began – despite being less than a two-hour drive away from each other.

Removal of the red list “as soon as it is feasible”

Amid criticism and confusion over recent travel restrictions, there are indications that the 10 million desert sheikh dome, which is predominantly overseas, could still be removed from the red list.

“We are working very closely with the UAE authorities to ensure that we can remove the UAE from the red list as soon as possible,” said Simon Penney, British Consul General in Dubai and Trade Commissioner in the Middle East. Penney’s comments came on April 21st, the same day as Shapp’s suggestion that the UAE could remain on the red list.

The UK government is expected to review its ban on non-essential international travel from May 17th. However, it is unclear which targets will receive approval.

“It is too early today to say which countries are on the green list and which are not, and we have to wait until early May before we have any further clarification,” said Penney during an interview with a radio station in Dubai

“The decisions made are driven by data and science. The keys to this are the launch of the vaccine, the number of daily cases and the prevalence of harmful variants,” he added.

The UK Foreign Office said it “advises against all travel across the UAE based on the current COVID-19 risk assessment. The UAE outperforms most of the developed world in vaccine adoption by almost 40% of the population are fully vaccinated.

“Visitors who have been to the United Arab Emirates or have traveled through the United Arab Emirates in the past 10 days are not allowed in,” said an April 25 report.

“A travel corridor worth reopening”

“The positions of the countries on each other’s lists need not be reciprocal,” Rob Willock, director of the Economist Corporate Network advisory service, told CNBC on Sunday.

“Given that the UAE and the UK are second and third in the global vaccination league, and more than half of their populations have had at least one vaccine, one would imagine this is a travel corridor well worth it to be reopened. “

The UK, one of Dubai’s biggest tourist sources and a key itinerary for Emirates, removed the United Arab Emirates from its “safe travel corridor” in January as falls in Dubai skyrocketed after an influx of British travelers in November and December.

The UAE reported just over 2,000 new infections on Saturday. The country has so far given 9.9 million doses of vaccine.

US travel warnings

It is not just Britain that is holding back on opening up. The US added more than 100 countries to its Level 4: Do Not Travel list last week, including Israel and the United Arab Emirates.

“Things change, and they will change over time,” IATA director general Willie Walsh told CNBC when asked if the State Department misunderstood the advice.

Certain countries on the American list also have their own restrictions on travel by foreigners, while others allow entry by air with proof of vaccination and a negative Covid test or other criteria.

“We’re not suggesting that you lift all restrictions now,” said Walsh. “We urge governments to come up with a plan that will give an indication of when they believe international air travel will start and how international air travel should work when things start moving again.”

Nomadland won the best picture, unsurprisingly, but the big winners of the night were Hulu, the movie’s favorite streamer (after a week at the cinema); Netflix, whose Black Bottom and Ma Rainey’s Mank each won two Academy Awards; followed by Amazon Prime, where you can find the two-time winner Sound of Metal. Suffice it to say, Soul, winner of the best animated feature and original score, went straight to Disney +.

None of this went unnoticed by the always lively people Frances McDormandwho co-produced the stage to accept the best picture for Nomadland with the film’s award-winning director and producer Chloé Zhao, made her usual Oscar night request to our better angels: This time to “please see our film on the largest possible screen. ” and one day, very, very soon, bring everyone you know shoulder to shoulder into a theater in this dark room and see every movie that’s here tonight. We give this to our wolf. “And with that she howled into the rafters.

She returned to the stage as the only three-time Oscar winner for best actress Meryl Streep (who has three Oscars but supports one) and lands a shy of all-timer Katharine Hepburnwho picked up four between 1934 and 1982.

After pointing out that the only thing missing was a karaoke bar, such as those like Leslie Odom Jr. could tear the house down, she just said: “I have no words, my voice is in my sword, we know that the sword is our work – and I like work.” She giggled a little like adding, “Duh, right?” But she added, “Thank you for knowing and thank you for that.”

Is the punk band ‘Tramp Stamps’ faux?

Internet cultureInternet cultureIt’s hard to keep up with internet culture, but don’t worry: every week we tell you the best of what you need to know.

This week, fake things are bubbling up on the surface of the internet, whether it’s fraudulent superfans, a poseur punk band, or a despicable “national holiday”. (Content warning: The following story concerns sexual assault.)

The internet reacts to a particularly rough, bogus vacation

April 24th is dubbed “National Rape Day”, according to alarming rumors from TikTok and Twitter. Allegedly, a group of six men posted a video on TikTok promising sexual assault when the day comes and encouraging other men to join their twisted vacation. Some even seemed to believe that rape had been legalized, but only for April 24th.

None of this is true, of course. There is no evidence for the video of the “six men,” rape is illegal every day of the year, and “National Rape Day” is not a new lie: rumors about it have apparently been circulating on the internet since at least 2010. There are There is also no evidence of an increase in sexual assault in relation to the date.

This Week In Music: Is This Online Punk Band Real Or Fake?

The internet is full of rumors this week that the band “Tramp Stamps” is an “industrial factory,” with hundreds of videos and thousands of comments showing up as poseurs on Tramp Stamps.

G / O Media can receive a commission

The official story of Tramp Stamps is that singer Marisa Maino, guitarist Caroline Baker and drummer Paige Blue formed the band after “getting drunk in a bar and writing a song”. They dye their hair crazy colors, cite Weezer, Paramore and Blink-182 as influences and write a song with the chorus “I’d rather die than meet a straight, white man.”

If all of this is a little on your nose, you are not alone. TikToker @hard_copeIn a video revealing the band’s pro-musician background, the collective outrage was summed up as follows: “It’s almost like it’s a group of people who are like theater majors for money. “

The band responded to the online whirlwind with the contribution “F * ck you. Don’t you like our music? Do not listen. “

To be honest, I can’t disagree with them. Each band is an “industrial plant”; Punk Gods The Sex Pistols were put together to promote a clothing store. Ultimately, it doesn’t matter if the Tramp Stamps are fake, real, or intentionally creating buzz by intentionally looking fake while they’re rocking. I reserve my judgment on your rock-itude and encourage you to do so Check out the Tramp Stamps I’d Rather Die video. and form your own opinion.

Big jokes and urban legends from yesterday

Don’t fall into the trap if you think that young people are stupid for spreading false rumors. You did it too.

Urban legends used to repeat like a gospel in elementary school playgrounds from New York to Portland and everywhere in between, going viral before there was even an internet to go viral on.

  • Spider Eggs in Bubble Yum. The idea that Bubble Yum chewing gum was full of spider eggs was so prevalent in the 1970s and 1980s that Bubble Yum’s parent company spent $ 100,000 on ads in over 50 newspapers to expose them. However, children get their news at the playground, where a fifth grader solemnly telling them about a child he knew completely died when the spiders hatched and who choked him to death by spinning webs in his throat, a newspaper is far more convincing than anything else.
  • Mikey from the Life Cereal commercial died of Pop Rocks and Coke. It was common knowledge that the kid died in the Life Cereal commercials when his stomach exploded after eating Pop Rocks candy and cola. This made Mikey’s appearance in his famous commercial positively scary. The thing ran every 10 minutes and you couldn’t see it without the terrifying image of its stomach exploding, splattering its horrified parents with a mixture of half-digested cola, pop-stones, and guts that filled your mind.
  • The unique personal lives of Richard Gere and Rod Stewart. If you are the right age You know exactly why singer Rod Stewart had to pump his stomach and why actor Richard Gere went to the emergency room. And if you don’t, find a fifth grader to spell it out.

This week in fake sports: Lakers fans have been fishing for years

Creating a fake person to trick people is a hobby as old as the internet, but whoever is behind the social media accounts of Lakers superfan “Vivian Flores” has taken the genre to exciting new levels .

“Flores” has been online since 2009 and has gained a sizable following by posting pictures of themselves describing their battle with leukemia. Interaction with Laker Kevin Durantand posting analysis of Lakers games and news. She even co-hosted a podcast with Josh Loussaint, another Lakers fan.

Everything was going great for Flores until Toussaint tweeted this week that his co-host had suddenly disappeared. Concerned fans spread the word to look for her. The Lakers organization offered support, as did actor O’Shea Jackson Jr. and Lakers striker Markieff Morris.

A few hours later, Toussaint reported that his co-host had been found, but the controversy made fans curious as to why none of them had ever met Flores, despite reporting being at various games. It didn’t take long for internet detectives to pull the strings that unravel Flores’ entire online sweater. They discovered that they were Images were photoshoppingHer voice on the podcast sounds a lot like an open man’s voice, and someone with very similar images and usernames fished Raiders fans a few years ago.

Flores (or whoever is running the account) first decided to end the controversy, tweet and even pitch various defenses a short video where she holds a sign with her name on … but her name is misspelled. Then Flores deliberately deleted her accounts and disappeared.

While some believe Toussaint was behind the joke, he vehemently denies it, claiming he was betrayed just as much as everyone else, which leaves the question of why. Why would anyone devote an entire decade to counterfeiting being a Lakers fan? Deep psychological problems? Performance art? Who can say that?

Viral Video of the Week: How Long Could You Survive in a Grocery Store?

Unmask different ones if not Food hoaxes and Myths, YouTubers The food theorists Answer deeply ridiculous fan-submitted questions with a seriousness and dedication the questions absolutely don’t deserve. This week they present a plausible answer to the question “How long could you survive in the average supermarket?”

The question is more complicated than it initially seems – even calculating how many calories are in the foods in a market is tricky, and when you factor in the different half-lives of various consumer products, spoilage, and how much agriculture gets you off the ground in the plant department becomes very complex very quickly. The food theorists are better at math than I am and can come up with a reasonable answer. I don’t want to spoil it, but you could probably live in a supermarket a lot longer than you think … if you are willing to make certain sacrifices.

Seize, GoTo, Sea may “devour” startups in Southeast Asia: VC

Seize, GoTo, Sea may “devour” startups in Southeast Asia: VC

SINGAPORE – Southeast Asia’s tech giants could buy startups with money they receive when they go public, according to an early-stage managing partner of a venture capital firm.

“They will basically devour a bunch of startups,” Vinnie Lauria of Golden Gate Ventures told CNBC’s Street Signs Asia on Friday.

He said that if Indonesian giants Gojek and Tokopedia successfully merged, Grab, Sea and GoTo, the combined company, would be among the likely buyers.

“When they’re listed on a stock exchange, they have the capital to grow and valuation for these types of acquisitions – a mix of cash and equity,” he said.

Lauria noted that this “is exactly what happened in China 10-15 years ago” when Baidu, Alibaba and Tencent bought out smaller companies.

Southeast Asia’s technology leader

SoftBank-backed Grab announced earlier this month that it would go public in a $ 39.6 billion deal as part of a SPAC merger with Altimeter Group. This is the largest such merger to date.

Special purpose vehicles are shell companies that raise capital and merge with or acquire private companies. These deals offer companies an alternative route to IPO that bypasses the traditional IPO.

Sea, which is listed on the New York Stock Exchange, held its IPO in 2017. The GoTo merger has not yet been completed and both Gojek and Tokopedia are still private companies.

Lauria said his company estimates that by 2025 there will be “a few hundred acquisitions, mainly led by these Dekakorns”. The term “Decacorn” refers to a startup valued at over $ 10 billion.

Bicycle passengers wear a helmet with the Gojek logo.

Lauria said the Southeast Asian startup ecosystem may also reach a stage where some investors want a payout.

“(They) will not necessarily be pushing for the company to sell itself, but they will look for second buyers. They will be very interested in a merger, some kind of M&A deal,” he said.

“Secondary markets – which were very, very low in Southeast Asia – are expecting a very strong recovery there,” he added.

Undervalued Sectors

In terms of sectors with growth potential in Southeast Asia, Lauria still considers Fintech to be “very undervalued”.

“There are great opportunities ahead as Visa and MasterCard do not have the same level of penetration in Southeast Asia and therefore alternative payments will be enormous,” he said.

Health care and education are also areas of interest.

“Anything that has to do with health technology is going to be great,” he said, and investors should be “definitely” into educational technology.

“It’s going to be very different in Southeast Asia than it is in the western world, and we’re going to see some really interesting innovations here,” he said.

How can I enhance the water stress in my bathe?

How can I enhance the water stress in my bathe?

The fact that we have running water in our homes is pretty wonderful when you think about it. Unlike other points in history – and in other parts of the world – many of us have the privilege of turning a few buttons and being showered in clean, hot water. But sometimes the pressure of this water is not ideal. This can be especially frustrating when showering in your own home that you know is capable of bigger things but is below par in terms of pressure for some reason. If this is something you are dealing with, here are some things to try.

Test your water pressure

Sometimes you can easily tell if you are dealing with low shower pressure, but sometimes you may want to do a quick check to confirm this. In this case, all you need is a measuring cup. Just Follow the infographic above: and take your measuring cup (ideally a liter or two), turn the shower on at full blast, and then state how long it takes to fill the jug with a liter of water.

If it takes more than six seconds, you are likely dealing with low water pressure Anchor pumps, a UK based plumbing company. However, the low pressure can have various causes. Here are some easy ways you can try to fix the problem yourself without calling a plumber.

G / O Media can receive a commission

Clean your shower head

We put this first because sometimes the simplest solution is the one we overlook. It is completely normal for shower heads to become clogged over time with mineral build-up and other debris. So, if you haven’t cleaned yours in a while (or ever), start over.

Instead of investing in a disposable cleaner, just unscrew your shower head and Soak it in a bowl of vinegar for eight hours. Once it’s over, if you see any remaining mineral deposits, The spruce recommends Push this out with a toothpick. If it’s still clogged, it’s probably time to invest in a new shower head.

Check your shower head and its settings

Another possible cause of low pressure is a water-saving shower head. This can be the case after you’ve just moved to a new location and find that the pressure is low to begin with. In this case, the previous tenant may have installed a water-saving shower head to reduce flow and save water. While this is better for the environment, it may not remove all of the lather from your hair.

Some low flow shower heads have a flow limiter that allows you to adjust the water pressure. The solution to your problem may be to reset the flow restrictor. To do this, follow the instructions in the Home guides vertical from SF Gate::

Use wide neck locking pliers or a pipe wrench and rag to disassemble the shower head. Many shower heads come with a built-in flow restrictor to help homeowners avoid wasting water. The flow restrictor is typically a white plastic disc with a small hole in the middle. The water has to push through this small hole before it comes out of the shower head. You can improve the flow of the shower by removing the flow restrictor.

Check the main water valve

If you’ve tried both of the above possible solutions and you’re still having problems, you may need to check your main water valve, which controls the amount of water that goes to each of the faucets in the house. It may turn out to be partially closed, which can definitely affect the water pressure in your shower. There are two main valves that you will want to check Experts at Terry’s Plumbing in Pittsburgh, PA:

Main valve: The water pipe to your home is near your water meter. You will see two valves; Turn both counterclockwise to open them fully.

Shower valve: This is likely in the basement of your home, in the crawl space, or in an access door behind the shower. Turn it counterclockwise to open it.

If none of these are partially closed, there may be a problem with your roadside water valve. You must therefore contact your local church.

Call a professional

At this point, if you haven’t been able to fix or track down the water pressure problem, you’ll likely want to call a plumber. You should be able to locate and then resolve the problem so that you can be back in a shower with adequate water pressure in no time.

Worker Insurance coverage Advantages: What Ought to Your Firm Give You ?, Cash Information

What should you look for in your company’s insurance benefits? Here’s what you can expect before you sign on the dotted line.

If you want to join a new company, in addition to the remuneration and the scope of work, you should also check the insurance coverage before you put the pen on paper.

The types of insurance offered by companies typically offer the following: You can think of “free” insurance, where the plan is paid for by the company.

What is usually provided?

The first item to look out for? Health insurance coverage.

While many companies provide health insurance for their employees, it is not mandatory for companies to have health insurance, with the exception of S-Pass holders and work permit holders:

S Passing Health Insurance Requirements: You must purchase and maintain health insurance with coverage of at least $ 15,000 per year that covers inpatient care and day surgery.

[[nid:526193]]]

Health Insurance Requirements for Foreign Workers: You must obtain and maintain health insurance coverage of at least $ 15,000 per year that covers inpatient care and day surgery, including hospital bills for conditions that may not be work-related.

Businesses are also required to purchase industrial injury compensation insurance for employees who do manual labor and those who do non-manual labor and earn $ 2,600 or less per month.

If your company offers health insurance, it will usually cover you in case you are hospitalized. This includes coverage for both inpatient care and day surgery.

Whether it covers pre-existing conditions depends on the plan the company purchased.

For example, some plans cover pre-existing conditions after a waiting period of 12 months.

It could also include additional benefits such as:

  • Outpatient care
  • Specialist who
  • Personal accident
  • running time
  • Critical Illness
  • Option to extend coverage to your spouse and child (s)

Aside from insurance, companies also have to contribute to your CPF, a portion of which goes towards your Medisave each month.

What additional benefits could companies offer you?

In addition to basic insurance, some companies offer the following benefits, although they are not legally obliged to do so. This coverage typically comes when drivers are added to the company’s group insurance.

Dental coverage: Get reimbursed for your dental treatments. This typically includes counseling, scaling and polishing, filling for tooth decay, and extraction.

A co-payment component may also be required, e.g. B. 20 percent.

Pay attention to the annual limit and the type of procedures covered.

For example, if that annual limit is $ 1,200, you can only claim up to $ 1,200 for medical treatment that year, regardless of which procedure you choose.

[[nid:524335]]]

Some procedures like cosmetic dental work may not be covered.

Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), chiropractic, physiotherapy: get reimbursed for your TCM, chiropractic or physiotherapy.

For chiropractic treatments or physiotherapy services, some insurance policies require you to provide a referral letter from a registered doctor or specialist so that your claims are eligible.

As a rule, an annual reimbursement limit is also set, e.g. B. 500 USD.

Alternatively, a limit could be set for each claim, e.g. B. 50 USD per visit to the TCM.

If your employer doesn’t offer this coverage, you can still get TCM, chiropractic, or physiotherapy insurance with an affordable personal accident plan.

Mental health insurance: With the increased focus on mental well-being, some employer insurance plans may provide additional support for mental health-related costs.

This can take the form of reimbursement for counseling, mental health services, or special mental health programs.

If you’re looking for your own plan that covers mental health, consider AIA Beyond Critical Care.

In addition to the benefits listed above, other fringe benefits your business insurance can offer may include: Annual health screening, vaccination, optical expenses, fitness activities, wellness programs, and more.

Insure yourself beyond your company’s insurance plan

In addition to relying on your corporate insurance, you should also improve your coverage with an Integrated Shield Plan (IP), as group insurance will also be terminated upon termination of your employment and you will have to pay your own medical expenses.

You can also consider purchasing a Critical Illness Plan that gives you a lump sum payment if you are diagnosed with a critical illness.

If you are hospitalized because of an accident, be it at home or in the office, you can also receive hospital allowance if you have a personal accident plan that provides such coverage.

Regardless of what your business insurance offers, you should get adequate coverage with the right insurance plans.

Yuh-Jung Youn Maybe we just won an Oscar, but somehow all we could think of when we saw the first part of her speech was, “The same.”

The prolific Korean actress just won her first Oscar – the first ever Korean actress to be nominated – for her role as Grandmother Soon-ja in Minari, and that’s pretty incredible. It got all the more surreal by the fact that Brad Pitt introduced her category and presented her with the award, and she seemed a bit overwhelmed when she went to the microphone.

Brad Pitt at last, “she joked.” Nice to meet you. Where were you when we were filming in Tulsa? Very honored to get to know you. ”

Usually, Youn explained, she watches the Oscars on television, so it’s hard to believe that she’s actually there receiving her own award. “Let me pull myself together,” she said. She was especially shocked by the women she won against.

“I don’t believe in competition. How can I win? Glenn Close“, she said.” I’ve watched her perform so many times, that’s just … all of the nominees, we’re the winners for different films, but we played a different role so we can’t compete with each other. ”

What’s Coming (and Leaving) HBO Max in Might 2021?

Illustration for article titled What's New on HBO Max in May 2021Screenshot: Tenet / Warner Bros.

Last summer, director Christopher Nolan had the hubris to believe that Tenet was a film that people would risk their lives for. The first big blockbuster to open in theaters after the pandemic started was also … the last big blockbuster to open in theaters after being somehow bombed. But this month it comes to HBO Max – and unfortunately on a streaming service like so many other potential megahits of 2020. The circle is complete. Everything is still terrible.

Except maybe Tenet? Haven’t seen it yet (as I was never interested in sitting in a theater after March 11, 2020). Certainly the reviews were all over the map; It’s either another brilliant mindfuck on the Inception level or an incomprehensible disaster. (Although spoken of incomprehensibly, the muffled sound mix is one thing that everyone seems to hate each other.) I look forward to seeing and finding out where I fall when it arrives on May 1st; The only thing I know for sure right now is that Robert Pattinson looks good in these suits. And I have to appreciate its beauty, because Nolan doesn’t like giving women prominent or interesting roles in his films. Yes i said so.

HBO Max’s big simultaneous streaming / theatrical release for this month is Those Who Wish Me Dead (May 14th), Angelina Jolie’s fight against forest fires with the artistic title and fantastic trailer:

In other news, Adventure Time fans can enjoy the next episode of Distant Lands, the series’ sequel / coda miniseries, and therapy fans will be delighted with the surprise appearance of a fourth season of In Treatment, though It has an entirely new cast and creative team. If you missed Wonder Woman 1984 during its short December release window, it is now returning to join the rest of the DCEU in its permanent streaming home.

Here’s the list of everything that’s coming (and leaving) HBO Max in May 2021. Titles with (HBO) next to them are available on HBO and HBO Max. everything else is exclusive to HBO Max.
