Yuh-Jung Youn Maybe we just won an Oscar, but somehow all we could think of when we saw the first part of her speech was, “The same.”
The prolific Korean actress just won her first Oscar – the first ever Korean actress to be nominated – for her role as Grandmother Soon-ja in Minari, and that’s pretty incredible. It got all the more surreal by the fact that Brad Pitt introduced her category and presented her with the award, and she seemed a bit overwhelmed when she went to the microphone.
Brad Pitt at last, “she joked.” Nice to meet you. Where were you when we were filming in Tulsa? Very honored to get to know you. ”
Usually, Youn explained, she watches the Oscars on television, so it’s hard to believe that she’s actually there receiving her own award. “Let me pull myself together,” she said. She was especially shocked by the women she won against.
“I don’t believe in competition. How can I win? Glenn Close“, she said.” I’ve watched her perform so many times, that’s just … all of the nominees, we’re the winners for different films, but we played a different role so we can’t compete with each other. ”
