S&P 500 and Nasdaq Composite are unchanged sooner or later after the report shut

0

US stocks were flat on Wednesday as investors paused for the first time above 15,000 the day after the Nasdaq Composite closed.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 11 points. The S&P 500 and Nasdaq Composite gained about 0.1%

The Nasdaq Composite climbed to a record close of 15,019.80 for the fourth year in a row on Tuesday, up more than 16% since the start of the year. Amazon led the profits on Tuesday. It was the 29th record high on the Nasdaq in 2021. The tech-heavy benchmark is now up more than 126% from its pandemic low. The S&P 500 also hit a record on Tuesday.

Markets have been bolstered by signs that delta variant cases may be peaking. Fundstrat’s Tom Lee said in a customer note late Tuesday that the worst may be behind us, citing declining positivity rates in Florida and Texas.

“We are aware that the stock markets have been restless and the wide variance in perspectives means that investors do not have a simple consensus. But our central case remains that we continue to switch to full risk tolerance with an ‘all rallies’ to the Year-end, Lee wrote, “The frequency of incoming data has improved in recent days, with the peak of COVID-19 cases being most notable in a number of states.”

Johnson & Johnson said Wednesday that its Covid vaccine booster shot had shown promising results in early clinical trials and had significantly increased antibodies to viruses.

Christopher Harvey, head of equity strategy at Wells Fargo Securities, also sees further gains in sight. He raised his year-end target to 4,825 on Tuesday, 7.5% above the index’s daily close. Harvey’s appeal is based on the strength of the S&P in August that carried over into the last few months of the year.

“In the past 31 years there have been nine cases in which the S&P 500 achieved a price return of more than 10% in the first eight months of the year; in the next four months the index averaged a further + 8.4% instances in the last four months achieved a negative return, “he wrote in a statement to his clients.

Dick’s Sporting Goods hit an all-time high of $ 134.80 on Wednesday after reporting strong quarterly earnings before the bell.

The much-anticipated Jackson Hole symposium begins Thursday, when central bankers may release updates on their plan to reduce monetary stimulus. The Federal Reserve has bought at least $ 120 billion in bonds a month to contain longer-term interest rates and stimulate economic growth as the pandemic ravages the economy.

Chairman Jerome Powell is due to comment on Friday.

“Taper talk is the concern, but if inflation continues to heat up and economic data continues to be mixed, the timing for the tapering could be postponed,” said Lindsey Bell, chief investment strategist at Ally Invest. “The Fed is unlikely to force an economic slowdown that isn’t ready yet and the outlook is becoming more uncertain with the rise of the Delta variant.”

Bell added that the determining factor could be the August job report due September 3, as Covid cases skyrocketed last month with the spread of the Delta variant.

Several tech companies will report their results on Wednesday after the market closes, including the Dow component Salesforce. Box and Snowflake are also on deck.

The right way to lastly translate (nearly) any textual content in iOS 15

As we get closer and closer to the release of iOS 15 in Fall 2021, more and more will be More functions will be added to the beta builds. One of the latest additions is a new system-level translation feature that can translate almost any text on your iPhone’s screen.

The new translation tool will be available for all iOS 15 devices as soon as the update is released in the coming months Run the iOS 15 beta can test it right away:

  1. Long-tap a word, phrase, or paragraph until the text is highlighted in blue. You can drag your finger to change how much text is selected.
  2. Tap the new one “Translate” Option from the popup menu. Tap the arrow to scroll if you don’t see it.
  3. Translated text is displayed in a small window above all open apps. The window also offers options for copying and sharing the translated text.

By default, translations are done remotely on Apple’s servers, so your phone automatically recognizes and interprets the words. This is helpful, but not everyone will want to share this data with Apple. Fortunately, the first time you use the translation feature, your device will prompt you with a warning and you can choose to have the translation done locally on your device instead.

To enable offline translation in iOS 15:

  • Go to Settings> Translation and toggle “Translation on the device.”

The tradeoff is that for each language you want to translate, you will have to download language data that will take up some of your device’s storage space. You will also need to be online to download the necessary files. However, offline mode is helpful if you are ever without WiFi and mobile connections and none of your offline translations are shared with Apple.

Fortunately, iOS 15’s text translation is a system-wide feature and should work with most apps and websites – whether you’re using online or offline mode. However, it cannot translate text from images and will not work in apps and games that do not have selectable text. Some other apps, like Google Translate, can Translate text in photos and other media if that is something you need.

J&J says its Covid vaccine booster shot produced a promising immune response in early research

Johnson & Johnson said Wednesday that a booster shot of its Covid-19 vaccine produced promising immune responses in early clinical trials – although information provided by the company in a press release contained some details.

J & J’s vaccine only requires one dose and recipients are considered fully vaccinated two weeks after receiving the vaccination. The company said Wednesday that J&J recipients who received a booster dose of the shot produced virus-fighting antibodies “nine times higher” than those seen four weeks after a single dose.

Increases in antibody responses were seen in vaccine study participants aged between 18 and 55 years, the company said, and in those aged 65 and over who received a lower dose of the booster.

According to the company, the results are based on two phase 1/2 studies.

“We found that a single shot of our COVID-19 vaccine produces strong and robust immune responses that are sustained and sustained for eight months,” said Dr. Mathai Mammen, head of research and development at J & J’s Janssen vaccines division, in a statement.

“With this new data, we also see that a booster dose of the Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine further increases antibody responses in subjects who previously received our vaccine,” he added.

While the new data looks promising, the company’s press release didn’t mention the potential impact of the booster shots on the Delta variant or safety.

When asked for data on Delta, J&J referred CNBC to a report in July that showed that a single dose of the vaccine elicited a promising immune response to the variant.

It also begs the question of why J&J recipients need booster shots – especially after the July report showed that a single shot of the vaccine provides at least eight months of immunity and appears to offer adequate protection against the rapidly spreading Delta variant.

Certainly the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention have said that J&J recipients are likely to need a booster dose, but added that there is currently insufficient data to support a formal recommendation.

The company announced on Wednesday that it is working with the Food and Drug Administration and other health authorities on booster shots.

The new dates come less than a week after J&J announced that Alex Gorsky is stepping down as CEO. Gorsky, 61, who was Chairman and CEO for nine years, will become Executive Chairman.

Do not be fooled by these pretend crypto apps on the Google Play Retailer

Image for item titled Don't Let These Fake Crypto Apps Scam You On The Google Play Store

Cryptocurrencies is becoming more popular, but as interest increases, so does the creativity of fraudsters who want to use a cultural change to rip people off. According to a Latest report from Trend Micro’s cybersecurity team, there are tons of fake crypto mining and wallet apps now on the Google Play Store tricking users into paying for fake services like cloud mining and storage.

The report names eight apps in particular:

  • Bitcoin 2021
  • Bitcoin Miner – cloud mining
  • Bitcoin (BTC) – pool mining cloud wallet
  • BitFunds – crypto cloud mining
  • Crypto Holic – Bitcoin Cloud Mining
  • Daily Bitcoin Rewards – Cloud Based Mining System
  • Ethereum (ETH) – pool mining cloud
  • MineBit Pro – Crypto Cloud Mining & BTC Miner

Most of these apps hid one of two fake mining apps – either Trend Micro called “AndroidOS_FakeMinerPay” or “AndroidOS_FakeMinerAd” – that trick users into paying for fake cloud mining services, usually at a monthly fee of 15 U.S. dollar. In reality, none of the apps mined or paid out cryptocurrencies to users.

Some also pushed paid ads and additional in-app purchases, and at least two of the apps – Crypto Holic and Daily Bitcoin Rewards – were premium apps that users had to buy in order to download them.

Google has removed these apps from the Google Play Store, according to the Trend Micro report. Apps that are removed from the list are then deactivated and removed from all devices to which they are downloaded. However, it is still wise to confirm that they have been deleted from your Android phone if you have downloaded any of the apps listed above.

There are more fake crypto apps out there

Unfortunately, even after these bans (and Google’s revision of its own crypto guidelines) Trend Micro researchers claim that there are currently more than 120 other fraudulent crypto apps available on the Play Store. Some have been downloaded by over 100,000 users. And these apps are not called or removed until proven that they are actually committing some form of crypto fraud.

As we remind you every time one of these malicious apps stories comes up, make sure to thoroughly check any software you download. Stick to popular apps and developers and read through the ratings and reviews – even on trusted websites like the Google Play Store. A quick internet search or even getting a second opinion in a serious discussion forum is also worthwhile.

Nevertheless, malicious developers will do everything in their power to make their apps look legitimate. Don’t pay for apps, services, or special features unless you are sure they are real. If in doubt, do not pass on any payment information or personal data. And if you’re already paying for an app that claims to offer cloud mining services but haven’t made a return, it means it’s likely a fake. Delete the app and report it immediately.

Each time Blake Energetic and Ryan Reynolds trolled one another

Everything is fair in love and social media warfare, just ask Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds.

Over the years, the Gossip Girl alum and Deadpool star, who have been married since 2012, have masterfully trolled each other online and in person. In fact, no birthday, anniversary, or milestone is complete without funny exchanges, cheeky comments, and snappy tribute posts. “We’re people who don’t take ourselves too seriously,” Ryan previously shared on the Sunday Sitdown with Willie Geist podcast. “The only people I really like to make fun of are us.”

Hey, some people’s love language is gift giving or maybe physical touch. For Blake and Ryan, it’s barbs trading. “We do it all the time in real life,” said Blake HI! of her loving back and forth. “It was just an organic thing and I don’t know where or when it happened, but we are just being all day [teasing] each other because that’s my best friend! “

And she couldn’t help but add: “Of course I always win. And I’m not competitive at all.”

Africa was undersupplied with Covid vaccines: African Growth Financial institution

African countries are “underserved” in terms of their access to Covid-19 vaccines, said the president of the African Development Bank.

“Africa [has] If I may use this term, it was certainly undercut in relation to global access to vaccines, “Akinwumi Adesina told CNBC’s” Squawk Box Asia “on Tuesday.

“The vaccines are not arriving on time, in the right amount and at the right price,” he said, adding that saving lives “is all about timing.”

According to Our World in Data, only 2.48% of the continent was fully vaccinated by August 23, far behind other continents.

By comparison, vaccination rates are 25.31% in Asia and 27.1% in South America, while vaccination rates in Europe and North America are both over 40%, as statistics from Our World in Data show.

“If we have learned one lesson from this, it is that Africa shouldn’t depend on the rest of the world for essential vaccines and therapeutics,” he said.

I assume that Africa will recover after this particular pandemic. The fundamentals remain very strong.

Akinwumi Adesina

President, African Development Bank

Africa “shouldn’t be dependent on others, it should be self-sufficient,” he said.

To this end, the African Development Bank wants to invest in primary, secondary and tertiary health infrastructure, Adesina said. It also hopes to allocate $ 3 billion to the pharmaceutical sector so that Africa can have vaccines and medicines for itself.

Economic effect

The pandemic had “very dramatic effects” on Africa, Adesina said, adding that GDP growth has declined, the budget deficit has doubled and the debt ratio has risen in 2020.

However, he expects growth of 3.4% this year after shrinking 2.1% in 2020.

“Africa still has fantastic fundamentals,” he said, citing rapid urbanization, good consumption potential and a large, young population.

The African continental free trade area is “too big to ignore,” said the bank president.

According to the World Bank, the AFCFTA, as it is called, is the largest free trade area in the world based on the number of participating countries. It is said to connect over a billion people in 55 countries with a combined GDP of $ 2.5 trillion.

“I assume that Africa will recover from this particular pandemic,” he said. “Fundamentals remain very strong.”

Learn how to be taught to skateboard in 30 days, even in case you are outdated and damaged

0

I wish my skateboard journey had started like the opening text, too Lupe Fiasco’s “Kick, Push” But I wasn’t 6 years old when I got my first skateboard. Hell, I wasn’t 16 or 26. In fact, I was well into my thirties when I started skateboarding … about a month ago. So how did it go?

I shared my adventure for Lifehacker’s Fitness Challenge, starting with how I felt getting on the board at my age and ends with how I had developed after 30 days. But it can be difficult to visualize someone’s progress through text, especially when it comes to abstractions like “comfort at the board”. So we made a video to help. Now you can see my ass fucking my ass … but maybe also inspired that I managed to learn cruising, ollie, and shuv-it within a month.

Did i fall Yeah, a ton. Did it hurt? Absolutely. But – and I know how unlikely that sounds – after falling a few times, I got used to it. It learned to fall a little “better” so it hurt less, and even the gnarled falls were over before I knew it. After falling a few times, the anticipation of the fall subsided and I was able to focus more on simple challenges, like the one I wanted to achieve in the video above: just drive up a ramp and turn around.

Check out the video to hear me talk about my goals and the lessons I learned, and to see how “good” I got in a month (or to see how I got a few Fall on my hip). Do you want to see me learn a single trick? Here is a Quick assembly on Twitter from my efforts to figure out how to slide it. And if you want to start skateboarding yourself, do what I did: buy a board, make some skate friends, and do it. You will never feel “ready”, but that doesn’t have to stop you from getting started.

Folks should not be informed to not take equine medication and but

The FDA had to warns people this week not to be treated with ivermectin, a drug often used to de-worm horses. Yes, people seem to be buying the stuff themselves from pet food stores and using it to self-treat for COVID-19.

If this sounds familiar, you may still remember it when people used antiparasitic drugs on fish tried to protect themselves from the virus last year. At least one person died in the process.

The excitement for these alternative treatments comes from the same people who don’t want to wear masks or take COVID vaccines. Although hundreds of millions of people have been vaccinated and the vaccines have proven overwhelmingly safe, a worryingly large segment of the population would rather trust a drug that has not been shown to work against the coronavirus.

Or summarized like a medic on twitter: “I love the irony of a thousand people screaming ‘I’m not a sheep’ while buying sheep wetting.”

G / O Media can receive a commission

All right, what is ivermectin and why shouldn’t I indulge myself?

Ivermectin is an anti-parasitic drug. It’s found in some prescription-only products for humans, but the easiest and cheapest way to get your hands on some is to go to your local feed store and purchase horse dewormers or one of the other ivermectin products made for animals. (It’s found in heartworm medication for dogs, for example.) But since horses and cows are large animals, the doses for them are similar: for example, a 9 inch tube of toothpaste is a single dose for a 1,250 pound horse.

“People should never take veterinary drugs” the FDA sighs audibly. These drugs are often more concentrated than the human intended versions, and the inactive ingredients are not necessarily approved for use in human medicines or human food. Basically, it doesn’t mean it’s safe for you or your loved ones just because it doesn’t kill a horse.

Ivermectin is also a real drug. Medications have side effects and interactions, and ivermectin is no exception. The FDA says:

Even the concentrations of ivermectin for approved uses [in humans] may interact with other drugs such as blood thinners. You can also overdose on ivermectin, which can cause nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, hypotension (low blood pressure), allergic reactions (itching and hives), dizziness, ataxia (balance problems), seizures, coma, and even death.

If you have COVID or are concerned about exposure, you should get tested, stay away from others until you feel better, and get medical help as needed (from a folk doctor, not a veterinarian) take advantage of.

And please watch out for your friends and relatives who may receive poor information about COVID prevention and treatment from Facebook or other sources. The vaccines are far safer and more effective than any unproven treatment, whether it’s equine dewormers, essential oils, or prescription drugs bought from a friend’s sketchy doctor.
