Clement Lecigne and Billy Leonard of the Google Threat Analysis Group have discovered a bug in the WebKit browser engine that Safari uses for all Apple products.

Apple’s patch notes The details of the bug itself are extremely small, so we don’t know much about it other than that “processing maliciously crafted web content can lead to universal cross-site scripting” and that it poses a risk to all iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch Users, even if you are not using Safari as a mobile web browser app.

According to a majority of epidemiologists, virologists and infectious disease specialists surveyed by the People’s Vaccine Alliance, mutations in the coronavirus could render current vaccines ineffective within a year.

The survey of 77 experts from some of the world’s leading academic institutions in 28 countries found that almost a third found a time frame of nine months or less. Less than one in eight respondents believed that mutations would never render current vaccines ineffective.

Two-thirds felt that we “had a year or less before the virus mutated to such an extent that the majority of first-generation vaccines became ineffective and new or modified vaccines were required”.

The poll, published on Tuesday, was conducted by the People’s Vaccine Alliance – a coalition of over 50 organizations including the African Alliance, Oxfam and UNAIDS – which advocate equal global access to Covid vaccines.

The vast majority of experts – 88% – said that persistent low vaccine coverage would make resistant mutations more likely in many countries. The People’s Vaccine Alliance warned that at the current rate of global vaccination programs, likely only 10% of people in most poor countries will be vaccinated in the next year.

Shots and boosters

In the past year, a number of emergency Covid vaccines were developed, tested and approved. The three vaccines currently used in the West – by Moderna, Pfizer and BioNTech, as well as AstraZeneca and Oxford University – are mostly made in the US, UK or the EU, while China and Russia have developed their own vaccines.

When investors are stamping the exits, it pays to be the first at the door.

It happened when the decline in ViacomCBS last week sparked a $ 20 billion wave of foreclosed sales at Wall Street banks, Archegos Capital Management, the family office run by former Tiger Management analyst Bill Hwang was founded.

When Credit Suisse and Nomura, two top Archegos brokers, announced early Monday that they were facing losses that could be “significant” to banks, rival firms Goldman Sachs and Morgan Stanley had, according to data from already discharged their positions knowledge of the matter.

Before the stock sales became public late last week, five Archegos banks convened a phone call with Hwang to discuss ways to ward off a messy fire sale, Bloomberg and other news outlets reported. The truce didn’t last, however, and Goldman quickly began placing clients on massive blocks of stock.

“In this environment where information flows fast and you need to act quickly, it shows a significant weakness in Nomura’s risk management system,” said Mark Williams, Boston University finance professor and former Federal Reserve auditor. “Did you not understand the risks you were taking or did you ignore them because you wanted to grow?”

Aside from not acting fast enough to stave off losses – Nomura and Credit Suisse each said they closed their positions as of Monday – the two companies may not have been as disciplined with Hwang’s funds as their big ones, according to industry observers American competitors.

Nomura estimated the company posted a $ 2 billion loss at market price on Friday, while Credit Suisse said the shortfall could be “highly significant” to the bank’s first quarter results. Calls to Credit Suisse and Nomura were not returned immediately.

Morgan Stanley, Goldman, and JPMorgan Chase are the largest prime brokers in the world, according to sources tracking industry revenue. Credit Suisse is in seventh place, while Nomura is outside the top ten.

Smaller companies sometimes accept less collateral or offer cheaper financing terms to attract customers in the highly competitive world of prime brokers. This works when markets are rising, but can be painful when stocks go south and leveraged bets implode.

Nomura and Credit Suisse also have smaller trading operations in the US, which may have limited their ability to quickly outsource large blocks of shares after it became clear what happened. Meanwhile, on March 26, Goldman sold shares in companies including Baidu Inc., Tencent Music Entertainment Group, ViacomCBS and Discovery for $ 10.5 billion. This comes from a customer email reported by Bloomberg.

“This is a challenging time for Archegos Capital Management’s family office, our partners and employees,” said a representative from the family office late Monday. “All plans are discussed while Mr. Hwang and the team determine the best way forward.”

The explosion at Archegos, a relatively unknown company before its spectacular collapse last week, calls into question what other risks lurk in the client books of major investment banks.

It also makes for a very pretty drink.

Making powdered fruit powder is extremely straightforward: just put a handful of it in a food processor or blender and let it whir until the fruit turns to dust. Once that’s done, take the dust and sprinkle on frothy, shaken acids, use in place of (or with) sugar or salt on the rim of a glass, or mix right into a cocktail. (Freeze-dried fruits are usually unsweetened and, depending on the brand, can be a type of cake. Try the powder before adding it in or on your drink.)

Even if you don’t drink alcohol, these practices can be applied to soft drinks as well. Sprinkle some mango powder on a lassi, sprinkle a glass of lemonade with a little strawberry dust or shake some powdered raspberries on a mocha.

You should also consider backing up all of your PSN purchases locally in case something is suddenly lost from your download list. The process differs between each console and can be a long time if you have a large digital library, but it’s worth it.

To be clear, it doesn’t require all of your old PSN games to be downloaded and saved locally. Your PSP, Vita, and PS3 games will continue to appear in your PSN download list as long as they remain available on PSN. That said, it will be a lot easier to copy over your locally saved content than dealing with the bad PSN saves (or lack thereof) on older PlayStation consoles. Going through the process now will save you a headache if Sony inevitably ends all PSN support for these older consoles in the future.
