Japanese shares will slide within the inventory market; China publishes reference price for loans

SINGAPORE – Japan stocks should open lower on Monday as Asia-Pacific investors await the China rate release.

Futures indicated a lower open for Japanese stocks, with the Nikkei futures contract trading at 29,280 in Chicago while its Osaka counterpart trading at 29,330. This is compared to the Nikkei 225’s last closing price at 29,792.05.

Meanwhile, Australian stocks were slightly higher in morning trade, with the S & P / ASX 200 up 0.21%.

China’s one-year loan prime rate (LPR) and five-year LPR will be released around 9:30 a.m. HK / SIN on Monday. The majority of traders and analysts in a Reuters quick poll expect both interest rates to remain unchanged at 3.85% and 4.65%, respectively.

Currencies

The US dollar index, which tracks the greenback versus a basket of its peers, hit 92.051 following its recent rebound from levels below 91.5.

The Japanese yen was trading at 108.88 per dollar, stronger than above 109.2 against the greenback last week. The Australian dollar changed hands at $ 0.7728, down from the $ 0.78 level seen last week.

Investors are watching the Turkish lira on Monday after the country’s central bank experienced another upheaval. The currency was last at 7.2169 against the greenback, compared to levels above 7.4 per dollar seen last week.

(Or just people who enjoy looking at interesting pictures and designs.)

“I love every aspect of filmmaking and the choice of color palette is one of them,” said Janardhanan told My Modern Met. “I love how colors have a huge impact on how we perceive things, and I love how filmmakers use this tool to convey emotions, set a tone, and so on.”

How does Janardhanan put these color palettes together? He starts by selecting a still image from a movie, extracting 10 significant colors from the scene, and then arranging them in a row below the image My modern mead.

Victoria Beckham’s daughter Harper provides her a glamorous makeover

Earlier this year, the designer wrote an essay for British Vogue telling what it was like to build an empire, especially amid the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

“Building a fashion and beauty business takes passion, tenacity and fearlessness. It’s not for the faint of heart,” she said in January. “Building one in a pandemic was almost impossible … but I know you, and you will use that experience to grow and expand. The reality of being a mother, wife, girlfriend and businesswoman creates one that is constantly changing Thrust. Pulling in life. But you think big, love the hustle and bustle and never take no for an answer. “

“Always remember your mantra,” Victoria continued, “work hard and be kind.” Have you already embroidered this on a pillow? … Keep it going. It’s never easy, but extremely rewarding – a privilege. “

In keeping with Fauci, UK variants seemingly account for as much as 30% of US infections

0

The highly contagious variant, first identified in the UK, is likely to account for up to 30% of Covid-19 infections in the US, said White House chief medical officer Dr. Anthony Fauci, on Friday.

The variant, named B.1.1.7, has been reported in at least 94 countries and discovered in 50 US jurisdictions, Fauci said during a White House press conference about the pandemic, adding that the numbers are likely to rise.

The UK first identified strain B.1.1.7 last fall, which appears to be spreading more easily and faster than other variants. It has since spread around the world, including the United States, Fauci said. US researchers had identified 5,567 cases through genetic sequencing by Thursday, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. US health officials say the variant could become the dominant strain in the US by the end of this month or early April.

New variants are particularly a problem for public health officials as they could become more resistant to antibody treatments and vaccines. High-level health officials, including Fauci, have urged Americans to get vaccinated as soon as possible. They say that if the virus cannot infect hosts and cannot replicate, the virus cannot mutate.

Public health officials and Americans can counter the variant by doing two things, Fauci said. “Get as many people to be vaccinated as quickly and as quickly as possible with a vaccine that we know will work against this variant and, ultimately, to implement the public health measures we have been talking about all this time have … masking, physical distancing and avoidance of congregational attitudes, especially indoors. “

A study recently published in the British Medical Journal found the variant was associated with a 64% higher risk of dying from Covid-19 than previous strains. Researchers from the University of Exeter and the University of Bristol analyzed data from more than 100,000 patients in the UK between October 1 and January 28.

“We’re in a position right now where we have a plateau of around 53,000 cases a day,” said Fauci. “The concern is that there are a number of states, cities, and regions across the country that are withdrawing some of the mitigation methods we talked about: withdrawing mask mandates, withdrawing from essentially non-public health interventions.”

Fauci’s comments on B.1.1.7 come a day after he argued over masks at a hearing with Republican Senator Rand Paul.

Paul claimed people shouldn’t wear masks after vaccination as the chance of getting Covid-19 is “practically 0%”. “Isn’t it just theater?” The Kentucky junior senator, an ophthalmologist, asked during a hearing on the Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions.

In response, Fauci said the emergence of new, highly contagious variants poses a threat to people with antibodies. “I can only say that masks are no theater,” said Fauci. “I totally disagree with you.”

We will study private finance classes from this millionaire janitor Cash Information

0

To be a millionaire you have to have a high paying job or be a businessman.

At least that’s what we hear generally.

But there are people who have tacitly accumulated wealth despite having a normal job.

Enter Ronald Read.

I recently came across this retired gas station attendant and caretaker who was worth nearly $ 8 million (S $ 10.7 million) after his death.

Morgan Housel’s The Psychology of Money featured the caretaker turned philanthropist, and I was intrigued by his story, which I wanted to dig further.

From humble employee to millionaire

Ronald Read was born in rural Vermont, USA in 1921 to an impoverished farming family.

To get to high school, he walked and hitchhiked over four miles every day.

He joined the US Army during World War II.

After an honorable discharge in 1945, Read returned to Vermont, where he worked as a gas station attendant and mechanic for around 25 years.

[[nid:460787]]]

He then took on a part-time job at JC Penney, where he muddyed for 17 years until 1997.

Read bought a two-bedroom house for $ 12,000 when he was 38 and lived there with his wife and stepchildren.

He died in 2014 at the ripe old age of 92.

It was then that the world learned of his wealth.

In his will, the ex-janitor gave his stepchildren $ 2 million and his local library and hospital $ 6 million.

What we can learn from Ronald Read

A Washington Post article praised Read, saying:

Indeed, there are many personal finance lessons we can learn from Read’s life. Here are a few of them.

Lesson 1: Have a frugal lifestyle

From what I learn, Read liked to live beneath his means, even though he had the money to pamper himself.

He drove a used 2007 Toyota Yaris. His lawyer recalled that despite his millionaire status, he would park his car in parking lots without parking meters, even if it means a longer journey.

He enjoyed an inexpensive breakfast in the café at Brattleboro Memorial Hospital (the hospital to which he had donated his fortune) and moved to a restaurant called Friendly’s as soon as the coffee shop closed.

old

Even though Read’s denim jacket fell apart, he used a safety pin to fix it and keep it on.

There was once a dinner at Friendly’s that, although Read could not afford to pay for its meal, which the person paid for on Read’s behalf.

My takeaway from the former janitor’s lifestyle is that frugality is something to embrace.

We may not necessarily have to use safety pins to hold up our clothes, but living below our means goes a long way.

Someone who makes a high monthly salary of $ 20,000 but is spending $ 20,001 still has to live from paycheck to paycheck.

Compare this to someone who makes $ 2,000 but uses a measured amount for daily expenses and the rest for investments and emergency savings.

The person who is not earning that much can actually do better many years later.

old

Lesson 2: only invest your money in things you know

Read has invested in dividend-paying blue chip stocks.

And he only bought companies that he understood, or as Warren Buffett would say, within his sphere of competence.

Read technology stocks that were avoided because he did not understand them. This is an important point. Knowing which stocks to avoid is critical to building long-term wealth.

We can be tempted to buy these hot Reddit stocks at times as everyone around us is buying them.

Or if we don’t get in the cryptocurrency cart, we might look like a fool.

However, it’s okay to miss out on these opportunities if we don’t understand these investments. There are many other ways to grow our money safely.

Read’s previous investments included AT&T Inc., Bank of America Corp., CVS Health Corp., Deere & Company, General Electric Company, and General Motors Company.

Whenever Read received dividend checks, he used them to buy more stocks and keep adding to his fortune.

old

Here is a snapshot of Read’s 10 largest holdings since his death:

Companies Amount (in USD)
Wells Fargo $ 510,900
Procter & Gamble $ 364,008
Colgate-Palmolive 252,104 USD
American Express $ 199,034
JM Smucker 189,722 USD
Johnson & Johnson $ 183,881
VF Corp. $ 152,208
McCormick $ 145,055
Raytheon $ 142,970
United Technologies 140,880 USD

Source: The Wall Street Journal

When he died, he owned at least 95 stocks that were spread across many industries such as healthcare, telecommunications, banking, and consumer goods.

If you are intimidated by individual stock picks, you can also look to Exchange Traded Funds (ETFs) or robo-advisors. The key is to only buy investments that you understand.

Who said that easy-to-understand “boring” companies like Colgate-Palmolive don’t make good investments?

Lesson 3: be patient with your investments

Read is a long-term investor. He understood that compounding takes time to play.

We too can understand the power of compound interest by looking at its formula:

As can be seen, the longer the period n, the more compounding can occur, producing a larger final amount FV.

Read has shown that a long-term investment can really pay off.

On the contrary, getting in and out of stocks based on trending news will not do our portfolio any good. As the American economist Paul Samuelson once said:

“Investing should be more like seeing paint dry or grass grow. If you want excitement, take $ 800 and go to Las Vegas.”

Lesson 4: be a learning machine

Read was an avid learner.

He read the Wall Street Journal and Barrons, and went to the local public library to check his holdings.

Many successful people acknowledge reading. Apparently, famous investor Warren Buffett reads hundreds of pages every day.

You may not have the patience to go through 500 pages of a book every day, but 10 minutes of reading a day goes a long way. Knowledge connections too.

If you are new to the world of investing, here are 10 books that every beginner should read.

old

Lesson 5: Mistakes Are Inevitable

Read didn’t always have profit shares.

His portfolio included stocks in Lehman Brothers, the infamous company that went bankrupt in 2008.

However, the collapse did not have a major impact on his returns as his portfolio was diversified.

The lesson here is that we will make mistakes with our investments.

However, the winners should care more than just the losers in a well-built portfolio of high quality companies.

Austin travels to Afghanistan because the troop withdrawal deadline is expiring

WASHINGTON – Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin traveled to Afghanistan Sunday to meet with the nation’s leader as Washington contemplates a possible end to America’s longest war.

The trip that makes Austin the first Biden cabinet-level official to visit the war-torn country comes 40 days before the U.S. troop withdrawal date.

In February 2020, the United States signed a treaty with the Taliban that would usher in a permanent ceasefire and further reduce the US military’s footprint from around 13,000 soldiers to 8,600 by mid-July last year.

According to the agreement, all foreign armed forces would have left Afghanistan by May 2021. There are currently around 2,500 US troops in the country.

The Biden government has not yet announced its next steps in Afghanistan.

The collective wars in Afghanistan, Iraq and Syria have cost US taxpayers more than $ 1.57 trillion since September 11, 2001, according to a Department of Defense report.

Current US military operations, known as Operation Freedom’s Sentinel in Afghanistan, Operation Inherent Resolve in Syria and Iraq, and Operation Noble Eagle for homeland security missions in the US and Canada, accounted for $ 265.7 billion of that total.

Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan, which began in October 2001 and officially ended in December 2014, cost taxpayers $ 578.7 billion.

Of the three ongoing operations, Freedom’s Sentinel accounts for the lion’s share of the cost at $ 197.3 billion, followed by Inherent Resolve at $ 40.5 billion and Noble Eagle at $ 27.9 billion.

According to the report, the money will be used for training, equipment, maintenance, food, clothing, medical care and payment of troops.

Last month, the most powerful military alliance in the world met to discuss a number of challenges facing the group of 30. The way forward in Afghanistan was at the top of the agenda. NATO joined the international security effort in Afghanistan in 2003 and currently has more than 7,000 soldiers in the country.

NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said the alliance would continue to assess the situation on the ground in Afghanistan.

“Our goal is to ensure that we have a lasting political agreement that will allow us to leave in a way that doesn’t undermine our primary objective and that prevents Afghanistan from becoming a safe haven again.” [for terrorists]”Said Stoltenberg.

“The majority of the troops come from European allies and partner countries. We will do whatever is necessary to ensure that our troops are safe,” he said when asked if the alliance would be prepared for violence if the deal with the Taliban is reached is broken.

Austin told reporters shortly after the NATO meeting that the withdrawal of US troops in Afghanistan would depend on reducing violence in the country.

“The violence needs to decrease now,” Austin said in his first press conference with reporters. “I have told our allies that regardless of the outcome of our review, the United States will not make a hasty or disorderly withdrawal from Afghanistan,” he said, referring to the NATO virtual meetings.

“There will be no surprises. We will consult, consult together and decide together and act together,” said Austin of the NATO-led mission.

Alright, this one’s just kind of fun. Best Buy is currently running a huge sale on Dell’s Inspiron 7000 laptop, which is down to $800. This 13.3″ laptop features a screen that can be flipped and folded around 360 degrees. That essentially lets you turn it into a tablet and just use its touch screen (it comes with a stylus too). It’s a clever bit of design, but this laptop isn’t just a gimmick. It sports a 1080p full HD screen, 512 GB of storage, and an Intel Core i5 Evo processor. This might not be the perfect pick for intense tasks like gaming, but it’s a powerful and versatile device that somehow makes laptops even more portable than they already are. I’ve had the pleasure of testing a few items from JLab over the last few weeks and was pleasantly surprised by the quality for not only the price but the size. If you’re unsure where to start with wireless and are worried about going too cheap, the JBuds Air True Wireless Earbuds are a great option. They’re 30% off and in that nice space of moderate price but reliable performance. Of the three colors that are offered the white is currently the best deal.

The sound is crisp, clear, and they block out a fair amount of background noise. They turn on automatically and connect immediately, which is something I’m still getting used to with this brand. And being able to control everything by tapping one of the earbuds takes some time to figure out. It’s a bit of a learning curve, but once you remember how many taps to what, the transitions are seamless. The charging case is true to the twenty-four-hour claims of playtime. Expect around six hours of tune time for the earbuds off of one charge. These are sweatproof and waterproof, so workout approved whether indoors or outside. They are comfy for hours of wear, and the case is compact enough to toss in your bag or pocket. The JBuds will be a great addition to your audio collection.

Google-powered Chromebooks are often shockingly affordable compared to the competition, but a cheap laptop usually still looks and feels … well, cheap. The Lenovo Chromebook Duet is the rare exception to the rule, apparently. It has very modest components, as you’d expect, but reviews suggest that it runs decently well, the hardware feels sleek and sturdy, and the 10.1” touchscreen is solid.

On top of that, you can even remove the keyboard to make it a proper tablet capable of running Android apps. As The Verge writes, “this has no business costing this little”—and that was at the $279 list price. Right now, you can pick one up for just $220 at Amazon, which is the lowest price we’ve seen to date. It’s official: American taxpayers have been granted an additional month to file their taxes for 2020, with the date sliding to May 17 amidst ongoing pandemic hardship. That’s either another few weeks to procrastinate doing anything until the last minute, or—more sensibly—a smoother runway for getting them done without undue stress. I suggest the latter option!

If your taxes are a bit more complex than average or you want to dig deep into your finances to hunt for deductions, then you might want to grab one of H&R Block’s specially-designed software suites. Marvel’s Avengers is $27 just in time for the upcoming Black Panther DLC. You can also grab Life is Strange 2 for $14 just in time for this week’s Life is Strange: True Colors announcement. Of course, you could also just go with an old standby: Grand Theft Auto V is $15. With all of these games (and more) you’ll receive a digital code to download the game onto your Xbox, so get ready to redeem some codes.

Wary of being out and about in the real world? I feel you. Build your own city from the comfort of home with LEGO City kits, especially right now since Amazon is taking 20% off a handset of new sets released for 2021.

They’re all smaller builds at 300 pieces or less, with the LEGO City Skate Park the priciest (and gnarliest) at $32, the Airshow Jet Transporter at $24, and a trio of other options at $16 apiece as seen below. We also covered some new-for-2021 LEGO Minecraft sets yesterday that are still all 20% off at Amazon, as well, if you’re looking for additional options.

How many different ways can you show your love of Animal Crossing? Beyond the game itself, you can get plushies, Switch cases, enamel pins, socks, and just about anything you can imagine (okay not anything, thankfully). If you’re looking for another way to take your fandom up a notch, why not check out this very cute Animal Crossing backpack on sale for $30? This pleasant bag has Tom Nook’s face plastered all over it. It’s also big enough that you could probably stuff the raccoon into it, if you so desire. You can certainly fit a Nintendo Switch in there at least, as it includes a dedicated slot for it, plus a compartment for wires. It’s cute and functional, which is the best kind of Animal Crossing merch you could ask for.

Back at the launch of Destiny 2: Beyond Light, I made my not-so triumphant return to the Crucible, the game’s PVP mode. As it turned out, everyone had gotten better at the game, and I’d gotten much worse. If you want to raise your K/D ratio fast, here’s a tip: all you have to do is log into a match that I’m in and wait for me to shoot hand cannon shots 20 feet above your head, giving you ample time to one-shot me with just about any weapon, it seems.

If you’re a PlayStation owner and you want in on this easy target practice, you’ll need to make sure you have PlayStation Plus, which allows you to play games like Destiny 2 online. You can get a full year of Sony’s online service for $27 after service fees from Eneba by using the code STIMULATINGPSDEAL at checkout. Make sure to wave emote in my direction before you embarrass me into orbit.

Take your computer out of sleep mode, because it’s time to load that bad boy up with video games. Newegg is currently running a big PC gaming sale, which largely features EA games and a smattering of great indies. The highlights? How about Civilization VI Platinum Edition for $26? There’s also Star Wars Squadrons for $21. If you’re a tried and true PC gamer, you can even get Command & Conquer Remastered Collection for just $9. I could go on and on, but the point here is that there are some serious deals here if you’re looking to buff up your collection.

There’s no shortage of ways to get an Xbox Game Pass subscription for cheap. Microsoft itself often drops the price of its service down to absurdly low levels to hook new subscribers. If you missed one of their more recent deals, here’s a cheap way to get two months for under $10. Eneba currently has one week subscription cards on sale for $2. When adding one to your cart, you can increase the quantity up to 10 at checkout and get a slight discount by entering the code 60GAMESWUT. To save you some math, you can grab four and get one month of Game Pass for $5, or grab eight and get two months for $10. Of course, you can also just grab a week or two if you’re really only looking for a cheap way to play some shorter games like Cyber Shadow and then bounce.

In just a few short months, you’ll be able to return to the world of Mass Effect. The new Legendary Edition of the original trilogy comes out on May 14 and it brings a graphical overhaul and quality of life changes. That means that you can once again kiss your favorite aliens and have it look better than ever. If you reckon you’re going to get it no matter what because it’s Mass Effect, Best Buy has a new pre-order deal running. Get the game for $60 (as you would normally) and get a $20 steelbook case to go with it. This whole re-release is about commemorating the past, so you might as well turn the game into a display item.

Ready? Set? Go! Mario Kart Live: Home Circuit is back on sale at Amazon. The AR racing game has been hard to come by since it launched, so anyone who’s been curious might want to hit the gas on this deal. The creative Switch game comes with a physical kart, which you can use to drive around courses in your actual house. The camera on the kart peripheral transmits to your Switch, turning your living room into a full-on track. It’s the perfect gift for kids this holiday season or adults who just want an excuse to play with RC cars again (read, me). Amazon made more copies available back in December, but the catch was that it wouldn’t be shipping orders until January. Now, the game is actually in stock and you can get the Luigi version for $87, its lowest price ever. The Mario version is slightly more at $94. What a jerk.

Google Stadia isn’t doing terribly well. The cloud streaming service seemed like it was set for a significant expansion when it came to iOS, but Google has had some struggles since then. It recently fired around 150 developers as the service plans to move away from original games. There’s some serious restructuring happening behind the scenes to revitalize the service and that’s reflected in this deal. you can now grab the Premiere Edition of Google Stadia for $60, down from $100. That package includes a Stadia controller and a Chromecast Ultra. To be honest, even if you don’t care much about Stadia, this is a pretty good price for those two other things. It’s kind of a roundabout way to buy a new controller or Chromecast, but two birds, one stone. You can try out Google’s cloud streaming service while you’re at it, though you really don’t need to touch it to get something out of this deal.

If you’ve yet to get a Nintendo Switch yet, Best Buy has a small incentive for you today. You can grab a Switch Lite and get a $20 Best Buy gift card for your efforts. Or you can grab one at Amazon and get a $20 Amazon gift card. Should you buy a Switch just to get a gift card? No. But if you were planning on getting one anyways, that’s $20 you can immediately put towards buying a game. The Switch Lite is the least expensive console option on the market today and it’s built with portable gamers in mind. It can’t dock to a TV and its joy-cons can’t be removed from the system. So if you’re someone who plans to only use a Switch casually on the go, it’s a good option. It’s also the ideal version of the system for young kids in the same vein as the Nintendo 2DS.

I wasn’t told how long this coupon code will last, and it’s not uncommon for Amazon sellers to remove clippable coupons after they notice increased traffic. So, if you want the full discount don’t sleep on this one!

Yesterday was the first day of spring. I’m in Minnesota, so I stayed indoors to work on finding deals here at Kinja and to work on my thesis to avoid the snow outside— so yeah, I kind of missed that technically, it’s spring. It just doesn’t feel like it for some of us living up north yet!

So, I guess what I’m trying to take a lot of words to say is: It’s time for spring cleaning, ya’ll. I would have already cleaned my house if I was back down south, but I’m a bit behind and my apartment kitchen needs some attention. If yours does too, maybe consider stocking up on some great kitchen essentials to get your motivation going.

Touchless is my preferred attribute of any device in these COVID times, so this touchless soap dispenser with window for only $15 is a great addition to any kitchen. It’s 70% off from its $50 retail price, and made of stainless steel to handle any mess— which is a good thing since you’ll be keeping it by your dishes right?

I’m a huge fan of Rip Van Wafel. My mom used to send these in care packages when I first moved to New York, which is funny because I lived in Brooklyn, where these are made. This pack runs for $30, a nice deal for upgrading the snack section of your pantry.

The individual packs are easy to toss in your bag, and they are only 130 calories on par with a granola bar. In this deal, you’ll get thirty-two each of the cookies and cream flavor. And they have a surprisingly high fiber count for essentially a snack cookie. Mix that with low sugar, and it’s a winning combo. These sold out quickly last time, so we expect the same this go-round.

If you’ve read a few of our pieces on SideDeal before and you like what you’ve seen, they offer a $5 monthly fee to get free shipping on all of your orders, no matter how many. Otherwise, it’s a flat rate of $8.

The Godfather got it right—if you have something you believe in, it might be time to go to the mattresses. Do you know what I believe in? A good night’s sleep. Not the light stuff, but the snoring, drool leaking out the side of your mouth, and eye bookers forming on the sides of your eyes once you wake up kind of sleep. The kind of sleep where you don’t even know where the hell you are after. You can only do that with either—massive amounts of melatonin, or a groundbreaking mattress.

Luckily for you, there’s a deal on just that. For a short time, you can get 30% off Tempur-Cloud Mattress over at Tempur-Pedic. It has a specific comfort layer that provides 40% more pressure-relieving power than other mattresses on the market. The mattress learns your shape and adapts to your weight for a personalized, supportive sleep. With our exclusive promo code KINJA30, you’ll save about $600 on a queen-sized mattress, bringing the price to $1,399. Yes, you can use the code for Twin, Full, King, Split King, and California King. So honestly, go a little crazy. The streets will be (safely) open soon, so you should get some rest before then.

Fun fact: I was a taste tester for Aloha way back in the day when they were thinking of getting into the protein powder/drink space. I can personally tell you this version is much improved from that first one. I’ve also seen these twelve-packs as high as $40, but this one is just $30 when you clip the coupon.

The vanilla flavor is superior, in my opinion, to the other options, and they are great to toss in your gym bag or take out on the trails. Each eleven-ounce bottle has eighteen grams of plant-based protein and is made with coconut milk, so it’s lactose friendly. It’s packaged with electrolytes and prebiotics. I’ve also experimented with it as a mixer for smoothies, and I have to say with the right flavors, it’s not a bad option.

We still live in a world where we are very much beholden to batteries. Remotes, toys, flashlights, even some wireless items like mice and keyboards all need batteries. And you never realize you don’t have any until you’re in a jam. Don’t let this happen again with this giant 100 pack of AA and AAA batteries.

This Energizer bundle contains 50 AA and 50 AAA, basically the most universally used batteries. With summer storms on the way, now is a great time to check portable radios and flashlights, so you don’t get literally caught in the dark. Fear you’ll never use this many quickly, no worries. These batteries hold their power for up to ten years as long as they are properly stored. Energizer’s proprietary Power Seal Tech keeps them working to ensure they’ll be ready when you need them the most. This pack is 44% off and an excellent way to prepare for that moment of electronic death.

I’m gonna be honest with y’all — sweeping your home or apartment is annoying. You gotta get all the corners and crevices, and even bend over to pick up all the dust just to throw it out. And let’s not get started on the eternal dust underneath the furniture or the pets who insist that a broom is their only nemesis (just me then, ok). Anyway, that’s where Shark IQ Robot Vacuum comes into play!

At $480, which is $120 off its original list price, you can schedule this cleaner to pick up pet hair, dander, and whatever else on hard floors. It’s also extremely self-charging, and has smart sensors so it always knows where to clean! Not to mention, the vacuum has a self-emptying base (that holds dust and debris up to 30 days!) and a self-cleaning brush roll, so all you have to do is dump the bigger can without bending over too much, which is amazing for folks with mobility issues. What are you waiting for? An invitation?

I’m so proud of you for still wearing a mask; it’s super cool of you. But do you need an upgrade or maybe something a little more heavy-duty? Or have you decided to start layering a KN95 under a cloth mask? Or maybe you just want to put your mind at ease with something a smidge more protective? Whatever your reason, you can grab a 40-pack of Vese KN95 masks over at SideDeal for just $18 right now.

These are industry-standard, which means they are supposed to filter 95 percent of particles. That is just about as good as you can get. So the mask obviously doesn’t completely eliminate the risk of catching or spreading something, but if you wear it correctly, it still drastically reduces the likelihood of doing so. These are also great if you’ve got severe allergies or asthma and protect against pollen, dander, and whatnot. The KN95 mask isn’t made for clinical environments (not that you’re planning to perform surgery with these), but they will protect you and others in everyday environments against what is currently out there. Not all heroes wear capes, but they do wear masks. So, thank you for doing your part!

These masks have the metal bridge for keeping your mask snug, and the masks are wrapped up in eight packets containing five masks each, so you can keep a pack in your car, at your door, in your garage, in your purse— wherever you might need to keep some on hand.

So if you prefer yours to be big and comfy, size up; they’re a poly/cotton blend and with that traditional look, cinched at the cuffs and hem with the collar a bit loose. “Braless & Flawless” is the biggest hit so far. I’m partial to “Hydrate & Masturbate,” a true life lesson to follow every day, in my opinion. This seven-piece pack can ease a whole host of aliments anywhere on the body, and this is an excellent alternative if you keep buying disposable stick-on pads. A bundle like this can run up to $50 at some retailers, so if your pulls and spasms need relief, grab this for a lot less.

These being reusable is a huge selling point. Combine that with the fact they can be used anywhere you’ve got chronic pain. All you need to do is find the metal disk inside, flex it back and forth, and you’re on your way to soothing warmth. These packs get toasty pretty quick and stay tepid for up to an hour. You can always wrap them in cloth if they’re a bit too hot to start. Resetting is simple too, keep them in that cloth and toss the packs into boiling water for a few minutes. There is an instruction book just in case you get stuck. This bundle has a neck/shoulder pack, a sport pack, four pocket packs (good for boots and gloves), and a lower back pack. This is a must if you’re constantly heating a towel, taking long hot showers, or buying boxes of throw away patches.

If you’ve read a few of our pieces on SideDeal before and you like what you’ve seen, they offer a $5 monthly fee to get free shipping on all of your orders, no matter how many. Otherwise, it’s a flat rate of $8.

The day has come, and The Falcon and the Winter Soldier has arrived on Disney+. As someone who has been in Sebastian Stan and Anthony Mackie’s presence, their chemistry together is palpable and organic. These two make a great duo, so it’s easy to see why that translates superbly to the small screen. One of my favorite comics from last year was Falcon & Winter Soldier Vol. 1; it absolutely wrangles why these two work so well together in dynamic and dialogue. This digital version is just $4 right now and is a great intro to this pair before consuming episode one. Save 10% on the print version.

Bucky and Sam are taking on Hydra once again and teaming up to uncover some ghastly secrets. The clock is ticking as the Captains get deeper into the terror organization’s heinous plans of a mass-casualty event. This comic has everything you’d expect from these two: snappy quips, tons of action, and lots of pulverized baddies. This was such a fun read during quarantine last year, and I’m excited to revisit it as a supplement to watching TFATWS.

The digital version will download immediately via ComiXology, and the print version will ship for free for Prime members.

Are you ready for a family movie marathon this weekend? If so, let Dreamworks get you prepped with one of their fan-favorite collections. Now, of course, you don’t need to have a family or even be a kid yourself to enjoy any of these titles, but it doesn’t hurt. I truly believe that first Shrek holds up, and there is a line or two I still quote from Madagascar, so adults can absolutely have a killer, wholesome marathon also. Each bundle has no less than three movies, all for an extremely affordable price. A lot less than going to the theatre. So grab one or all of these for a delightful night in.

These will all ship for free for Prime members.

Streaming is a funny thing. On the one hand, you have nearly any show you could wish for at your fingertips, ready for you to binge after logging off for the weekend. On the other hand, those shows are fragmented across so many apps and services that it’s hard to track down where to find anything, let alone how to pay for it all. Luckily, free trials exist to let you blitz through your most anticipated or beloved shows while taking the service out for a spin, all without having to commit. By the end of it, maybe you’ll have found a new catalog of shows and movies to sink your teeth into, or maybe you’ll just be grateful for the time you spent together.

Right now, you can get a month of Paramount+ (formerly CBS All Access) for free through Amazon. After your first month, it’ll cost $6, but you can always cancel ahead of time if it’s not your jam, and that’s a problem for future you, anyways.

In the meantime, you’ll get access to content from CBS, Comedy Central, BET, Nickelodeon, and MTV. You can catch old favorites like (pardon me for dating myself) Clone High and Daria, Hey Arnold!, Key & Peele, and Rugrats. There’s also plenty of originals to choose from, too, like Star Trek: Picard, Kamp Koral, and The Good Fight.

Have you ever put your phone down, Grandpa Simpson’d off into another room, and immediately forgotten when you put your phone? I have done this several hundreds of times at this point in my life and the panic of this moment is real. If you never want to have this problem again, consider grabbing a tracking pixels. Basically, a tracking pixel is a coin-sized sticker you can place on to your device. If you lose it, you can use an app to make the pixel ring. Problem solved. Sidedeal currently has a 5-pack of tracking pixels down to $5, which is a full 90% off the usual $50 price tag. The package comes with five extra rechargeable batteries and the app lets you order replacements for free. This will make your entire life so much easier, trust me.

The right way to create a sensory backyard

Gardening and various forms of mindfulness have received more attention over the past year thanks to the COVID-19 pandemic. In fact, for many people, gardening is a form of mindfulnessGive them the opportunity to take a break from everything else and focus on the here and now of what is happening in their yard. If you want to take this concept to the next level, you might be interested in creating a mind garden. Here’s what it is and how to make one.

What is a sensory garden?

In essence, a sensory garden is exactly what it sounds like: a garden that can be experienced with all five senses (touch, smell, taste, sound and sight). There is no single “formula” for a sensory garden – it is about adding features to a new or existing garden in order to fully involve each visitor and provide them with a complete experience.

How do I create a sensory garden?

Here are some suggestions for sensory garden functions, courtesy of Holly Crossley at Gardening Etc::

Put a fragrant plant at the entry point

Whether it’s a door, the beginning of a path, or part of your balcony, plant something with a scent that you love. Crossly suggests lavender or nepeta (also known as catnip). That way, you immediately get a signal to your brain and body that you are entering another room.

Install a water feature

This isn’t as intimidating (or expensive) as it sounds – just find a container that comes in a size that will fit your garden. And if your garden is on a balcony, this could be a simple bowl of water. Here’s why Crossly thinks A water feature is worth it:

Water lets sparkling shimmers pour over the property as it reflects the midday sun, welcomes dragonflies, frogs and other wildlife, feels refreshingly cool, and the gentle lapping of a visiting bird taking a bath is sure to be a comforting sound for anyone .

Plant herbs to pick and taste

When the season is right, create a small “tasting area” of your garden with herbs like mint, chives, basil, and spearmint. Then when you visit that part of your garden you can break off a leaf and chew it to get the taste (ideally after rinsing it).

Add some stachys

This velvety soft plant, better known as a “lamb’s ear,” is a great way to add practicality to your sensory garden. “They are a beautiful silver hue and often spikes with purple or white flowers appear in the summer,” writes Crossley. “Literally place them around a seating area or along a path for a soothing touch.”

Make a place to sit and take it all in

Depending on the size of your garden, consider adding a bench or chair if possible. This gives you and your guests a place to sit down, quiet down, and listen to the sounds around you (or the lack of them).

It’s also a place where you can take a break from whatever you’re doing, sit down and look at everything that’s going on in your yard. Crossley recommends placing the bench or chair in a shaded spot and adding a pillow.
