Have you ever seen a movie and been drawn to the aesthetics of a particular set or scene – even if you weren’t really interested in the movie itself? If so, you are not alone. Kalki Janardhanan, a movie lover, runs an Instagram account called Color palette cinemain which he shoots a specific movie scene and highlights the various color combinations, providing a color palette at the end of each post. Here’s what you should know about this project and how you can use these color schemes to decorate your own home.

How to use film color palettes in your own home

In one current interview with My Modern MetJanardhanan stated his belief that “Color can affect us psychologically, often without our realizing it.” Currently, his Instagram account at Color Palette Cinema has 1,138 posts and more than 1.6 million followers – an indication of the interest in the way that color can be used to influence a mood. (Or just people who enjoy looking at interesting pictures and designs.)

“I love every aspect of filmmaking and the choice of color palette is one of them,” said Janardhanan told My Modern Met. “I love how colors have a huge impact on how we perceive things, and I love how filmmakers use this tool to convey emotions, set a tone, and so on.”

How does Janardhanan put these color palettes together? He starts by selecting a still image from a movie, extracting 10 significant colors from the scene, and then arranging them in a row below the image My modern mead.
