After a year of canceled travel plans, you are likely ready to take to the streets or hop on a plane and fly to a location that is not close to you. And if you’ve been thinking of something more permanent, you might be interested in a current offer from the town of Laurenzana in the Italian region of Basilicata.

As in other villages full of abandoned but absolutely beautiful historic houses, Laurenzana has some on the market for 1 euro. But unlike similar actions, This does not require a deposit. Here’s what you need to know about the offer that seems too good to be true.

How to get a rundown home in Italy for $ 1.20

The way it normally works with these basically vacant homes in Italy (and elsewhere in Europe) is that buyers have to pay a deposit guarantee on top of € 1 (or whatever the original cost). Deposits typically range from $ 2,000 to $ 5,000 (approximately $ 2,380 to $ 5,950) and require new owners to complete certain renovations within a set time frame. Once they have done the job and restored the house, their deposit will be returned to them.

G / O Media can receive a commission

Laurenzana Mayor Michele Ungaro explained the strategy to CNN::

We want to help newcomers buy the home of their dreams without making it difficult for them to follow lengthy procedures and strict requirements. Regulations can be difficult to navigate at times, especially if you are a foreigner. We want this adventure to be a pleasure, not a burden. For this reason, we do not require a deposit to ensure that the work is carried out quickly. It sounds like some kind of threat. We rely on the good faith and commitment of buyers, however we will constantly monitor the work in progress and the status of the renovation.

Illustration for article titled Buying a House in an Italian City for Less than $ 2

The process may be easier, however there are some requirements for the Laurenzana homes. In addition to the € 1, those who wish to buy one of these houses must submit a proposal and a detailed renovation plan for the property. If their proposal is accepted, the new homeowners must start repairing their place within three months of purchase and be finished with the final rehab project within three years.

If you want to buy a house in Laurenzana, send an email to comunelaurenzana@rete.basilicata.it for more information.

WHO analysis studies on blood clots in recipients

0

Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, Director General of the World Health Organization (WHO), speaks after Dr. Anthony Fauci, Director of the National Institute for Allergies and Infectious Diseases, during the 148th session of the Executive Board on the Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19) outbreak in Geneva, Switzerland, January 21, 2021.

Christopher Black | WHO | via Reuters

The World Health Organization announced on Friday that it is reviewing recent reports of blood clots in some people who have received the AstraZeneca Covid-19 vaccine, which has led some countries to stop introducing the shooting.

At least nine countries, including Denmark, Norway, Iceland and Thailand, have stopped using the vaccine for safety reasons. By Wednesday, around 5 million people in Europe had received the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine. Of this number, 30 so-called thromboembolic events were reported in recipients. These are blood clots that form in blood vessels and block blood flow.

AstraZeneca said in a statement Friday that there is “no evidence” that the vaccine causes an increased risk of developing blood clots.

WHO director-general Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said Friday that the agency’s Global Advisory Committee on Vaccine Safety “is systematically reviewing safety signals and carefully evaluating recent reports on the AstraZeneca vaccine”.

“Once WHO has a full understanding of these events,” he added, “the results and changes to our current recommendations will be communicated to the public immediately.”

Dr. Mariangela Simao, WHO deputy director general for access to medicines and health products, added that the global health agency “is likely to have a statement this next week when investigations are complete”.

“The WHO is very much aligned with the position that we should continue immunization until we have cleared up the causal link,” she said.

Dr. Soumya Swaminathan, WHO’s chief scientist, said it was still unclear whether the vaccine was actually causing the clots. An AstraZeneca spokesperson noted that “the observed number of these types of events in vaccinated people is significantly lower than expected in the general population”.

“The adverse events reported after vaccination must be seen in the context of events that occur naturally in the population,” said Swaminathan. “Just because it’s reported after a vaccination doesn’t mean it’s the vaccination. It could be completely independent.”

The European Medicines Agency, the European Medicines Agency, has stressed that there is no evidence that the AstraZeneca shot caused blood clots and that the benefits of the vaccine “continue to outweigh the risks”.

“Reports of previously received blood clots are no greater than the numbers that would have occurred naturally in the vaccinated population,” said Dr. Phil Bryan, Vaccine Safety Director for the UK Medicines and Health Products Regulatory Agency.

“Public safety will always come first. We will continue to examine this issue carefully, but the evidence available does not confirm the vaccine is the cause. People should still get their COVID-19 vaccine when prompted become.” he added.

Step again in time to the Grammys Purple Carpet 10 years in the past

0

When it comes to red carpets, the Greatest Night of Music consistently delivers the greatest.

The countdown to the Grammys 2021 is officially running and what better way to celebrate the event on Sunday than by going back in time? Attend the 2011 Grammy Awards.

Country trio ten years ago Lady A. (formerly known as Lady Antebellum) and rock band Arcade Fire were among the night’s big winners, with the latter causing #WhoIsArcadeFire to be trending online after winning Album of the Year. And while the next decade gave way to a brand new set of Grammy champions – and ongoing drama – there was nothing quite like a red carpet in the early 2010s.

Lady Gaga shocked viewers at home when she got to the Grammys, hidden in a cocoon-like egg, and then newbie Ariana Grande Hit the red carpet and still rock her bright red locks from her Nickelodeon era.

And yes, even the Jersey Shore cast got an invite.

I’ve tested Mpow products in the past and was always pleasantly surprised at the value to price ratio. They’re quality without breaking the bank. A real treat from the company is their M30 Earbuds. They’re just $20 when you clip the coupon and use the code RTWHPT4P. This discount will appear once you start the checkout process. This code expires Sunday, and it only works on the black color.

$20 is a great price for an extra set of earbuds. If you’re running errands or just running and you don’t want to take your most expensive buds on the go, these are for you. Quick to pair and easy to bounce between tunes and calls. The M30’s are noise-canceling, so ideal for travel, and just because they are small and fit snuggly doesn’t mean there’s no power in them. Little buds, big bass. They’re sweat-proof, so sport it up and fear not about ruining them. You’ll get about 5 hours off of one charge but 25 hours with the charging case. The only blip is if you’re an Android user, you have to adjust the volume on your phone to “maximum” first to get the highest volume out of these. Other than that, it’s a solid audio device at a solid price.

For a first-gen Apple product, the new MacBooks featuring the company’s own custom chipset reviewed surprisingly well, even from our friends at Gizmodo. And now, the M1-equipped 13″ MacBook Pro is discounted $150 for the 512GB SSD model at Amazon, with the full savings shown at checkout. Meanwhile, the 256GB base model sees a stellar $99 drop, as well.

Here’s what Gizmodo’s Joanna Nelius had to say in her review of the powerful new MacBook Pro:

I do all my work and play on PC, but Apple’s M1 processor has me wondering if I really need a Windows PC for my next laptop. This is the first time in all my years of computing—ever since my dad sat me in front of a keyboard as a toddler—that I’ve ever considered getting a Mac.

The Apple Watch Series 6 rolled out last fall with enhancements over the previous edition, including a blood oxygen sensor to join the ECG test and other health smarts. We saw some pretty compelling discounts during the holiday season, but not so much since, sadly.

Luckily, if you’ve been waiting for a bargain on a new Apple Watch, you might find it amidst the listings at Amazon right now. Amazon is currently offering as much as $80 off an Apple Watch Series 6 depending on configuration, although the larger savings come with the pricier, more luxurious versions.

At the entry level, the 40mm Series 6 Wi-Fi edition is $374 ($25 off) in certain colors, while the 44mm edition goes as low as $380 ($49) off. Want a version with LTE functionality so you can stay connected without your phone in range? The LTE edition is as low as $430 ($69 off) in 40mm and $474 ($55 off) in 44mm, depending on color choice.

Meanwhile, the fancier Stainless Steel LTE model with a Milanese Loop sees the $80 discount 44mm ($719). Whether you’re most interested in the health features, notifications, style customization, or a little bit of everything, now’s the time to strike.

Are you the friend constantly asking if anyone has a charger? Or pre-pandemic, were you asking bartenders if you could plug your phone in somewhere? The 10,000mAh capacity version is just $27 when you clip the coupon on the page and use the code FJO8VLJH at checkout.

I’ve had Aukey products before and really like them. I personally like to have a portable charger with me at all times. But you can also plug in devices via the USB-A and USB-C ports.

In his roundup of the best VPNs at Gizmodo, Andrew Couts called NordVPN “fast and easy to use,” citing accessibility and affordability as reasons to subscribe. Though it’s almost always marked down from its $287 list price, the 2-year plan is nonetheless the cheapest option to get started with the service and continue using it long-term. For a limited time only, though, it’s not only 68% off, bringing your total to just $89 for 730 days, but it also comes with an extra 1-month, 1-year, or 2-year plan, randomly applied by the Nordic gods at checkout, through the end of February.

Couts says in his abbreviated review:

No matter what you pay, you’ll get access to more than 5,400 servers in more than 60 countries, a bunch of features you may or may not want, and, because the company is based in Panama, assurances that your data—or lack of data, as the case may be—is outside of U.S. and European jurisdictions. Like every other VPN on this list, NordVPN claims to have a “strict no-logs policy,” so most of your data isn’t collected, the company says. It does still collect your email address, payment information, and the timestamp of the last time you launched the VPN.

But NordVPN isn’t without its downsides. “…some researchers have found that it sends your email address and Google Ad ID to a marketing company when you register through the Android app and contains some trackers,” Couts explained. “Another downside is that some of NordVPN’s servers are rented, which means another company you need to trust is in the mix. And yes, one of those servers got hacked in 2018.”

Still, if you want one of the most reliable VPN clients, with the budget to support its robust infrastructure, you can’t go wrong with NordVPN. Plus, with availability on virtually every platform imaginable—from macOS to Android TV—this private networking tool is equal parts ubiquitous and acclaimed. Endorsed by PCMag, Wired, CNET, Business Insider, and more, it may be time to board the Nord train if you’re somehow unwedded to a VPN already.

The Oculus Quest is the best VR headset for the vast majority of people, offering a fully self-contained, wireless experience with solid performance and great games and apps, all for an affordable price. It’s really that simple—and shockingly good for the price tag.

Right now, you can snag the original Quest model refurbished direct from Oculus for just $199, which is half-off the original new price. That gets you the headset itself and the Oculus Touch motion controllers, all cleaned and tested to act like new. This is a fantastic deal if you’re looking to dabble in VR, and again, you don’t need to hook it up to a gaming PC or console or even slot in a smartphone. It’s like a portable game console, albeit one you strap to your head.

Note that the Oculus Quest 2 came out last fall at $299, and it brings both enhancements and a couple of compromises. It’s cheaper and lighter than the original, and benefits from the tandem of better screens and improved performance. The downside, however, is that the new straps aren’t nearly as good at keeping the headset in place and the less-precise IPD (interpupillary distance) settings might result in lower-quality experiences for some users.

Overall, the Quest 2 is a worthwhile upgrade for most prospective buyers—but at half-price, I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend buying a refurbished Oculus Quest while supplies last.

The 12.9” iPad Pro provides a lavish landscape for both consumption and creation, whether you use that huge, beautiful screen to watch videos and play games or perhaps sketch or lay down some beats. The 120Hz ProMotion display delivers smooth animations, plus this Pro model has Face ID, a LiDAR scanner, and compatibility with the Apple Pencil and the laptop-esque Magic Keyboard attachment.

Right now, you can save $50 on the base 128GB model and $100 off the 256GB and 1TB models from Amazon, while the 512GB edition sees an even larger $150 discount. Discounts vary on the Wi-Fi + Cellular models, with the 1TB model also seeing a $150 discount, and the Magic Keyboard is $99 off right now (full savings shown at checkout).

Way back in the day, the original Animal Crossing for GameCube was so big that it came with its own memory card. My precious little 59 slot card had a picture of Rover on it and could not have anything other than Animal Crossing on it. I was just hit with that childhood memory seeing this Switch compatible 512GB SanDisk microSD card, branded to match New Horizons’ chill aesthetic. It comes in that cool, light green color and features the same leaf icon that’s found on Tom Nook’s vacation-dad button down. Other than looking extremely cute, it’s actually a pretty practical deal. The card, which is down to $100 on Amazon today, is perfect for Switch owners who buy a lot of games. For fighting game aficionados, a fightpad is a must. These peripherals trade in your standard controller design some something closer to an arcade experience. That usually means more face buttons for players to slam down on. If you’ve been thinking about making the jump to a fightpad, but are but off by how big they can be, this might be an option for you: the Razer Raion is down to $60 at Amazon. This PS4 and PS5 compatible controller mimics the design of a PlayStation controller, but morphs it into a fightpad. You’ve got six slightly larger face buttons with Razer mechanical switches. It trades in a joystick for an eight way D-pad, allowing for precise combo execution. It even has a “competition mode” that’ll let you disable buttons you don’t need. All in all, it’s a very modern spin on the fightpad concept, which is about what you’d expect from Razer who thrive on cool peripheral ideas like this.

We are finally down to the end of winter— well, most of America is anyway. Here in Minnesota, we are still anticipating at least one or two more snowfalls before it’s suddenly summer. But for most of the country, we are starting to hit that weird space of the year where the weather can’t decide what it is. That’s when I imagine something like this Dyson AM10 humidifier and fan would be most handy.

You can use it to add much-needed moisture to the air, but the fan is also great for adding a nice breeze once the warm temps start up again for just $200 right now at Newegg, a 20% discount.

If you’ve used a Dyson product, you know that these appliances come with a certain bar of quality that makes a higher price tag easier to swallow, so don’t miss out on a great discount!

Sitting is the new smoking, or so they say. (I’d personally argue vaping more so fits that bill, but to each their own.) And in the event you’re trying to quit while on that work-from-home grind—let’s face it, who isn’t now that our commuting exercise has been axed completely—an adjustable standing desk offers quite the elegant, versatile solution. While we haven’t reviewed this specific model, our own Andrew Hayward took the Flexispot EC9 for a spin earlier this year, and while he was reluctant to reach a definitive verdict on the experience, he did have the following to say:

This particular desk meets my own relatively undemanding needs, given that it’s sturdy and tall enough for me (being 6’2”), but it’s the only standing desk I’ve used so far. There are other options around this price point, as well as much, much more expensive standing desks with additional features and added style, not to mention standing desk converters that can sit atop your existing desk. If you’ve been thinking about a standing desk, there’s probably an option out there that can fit your budget and meet your needs.

Both the 48″ x 24″ EC9 and its larger 48″ x 30″ counterpart are on sale, the latter is discounted a whole 20% when you opt for the white on white colorway. All you have to do is clip the coupon on the page and you’re well on your way to achieving new heights.

Drink more water is easy advice to give, not so easy to follow. But hell, when you can mix it with CBD for maximum chillaximum, you’ve got more of an incentive stay hydrated. The only problem is, mixing CBD oil into your drinks is often more trouble than it’s worth—take it from me, a guy who used to make CBD tea by dissolving the oil into melted butter, stirring it along the way, and then pouring that new solution into a hot cup o’ H20 with a steeped tea bag inside. Caliper CBD, on the other hand, cuts out that middle step, is completely tasteless, and blends in perfectly to any drink. And if you want a little flavor, Caliper Swiftsticks come in Cool Mint, Lemon Lime, and Mixed Berry variants to pack the ultimate cannabis-infused punch.

Take it from me, someone who’s tried it out and loves the concept but was initially skeptical of the execution—could CBD powder be as effective as oils or edibles? Although it has been vetted by scientists, I remained unconvinced until I was sent a pack myself. After mixing it into water, tea, and even La Croix, I can vouch for Caliper CBD. It serves its function, helping you relax and relieving chronic pain, with a pre-measured 20mg of cannabidiol in every pack. And for a limited time, Caliper is $10 off for Kinja Deals readers (with free shipping) using the promo code KINJA10. If you’re a frequent CBD user, my guess is you won’t regret it. But in case you do, Caliper offers full refunds for anyone unsatisfied with the product. Try it out while it’s on sale.

I’ve had the pleasure of trying this out the last few days and can say it is, in fact, a great alternative to an Apple watch in many ways. If you don’t need many bells and whistles, the Aukey Smart Watch is a worthy entry into the category. It is currently 30% off and ready to make life a little easier.

The most significant feature I was impressed by is the battery. The company claims a twenty-day battery life. But even at that, I’m finding I only need to charge this once a week. Obviously, the less you have it sending alerts and doing extra work for you, the longer it’ll last. The display is vibrant, easy to read, and even looks a bit like that trendy watch all my friends have. It synched up with my phone seamlessly, and it was a breeze to get my texts sent too. This watch is compatible with Facebook, WhatsApp, Instagram, Twitter, WeChat, etc., so you can receive a variety of chat messages. Using this on runs and even just for errands was excellent to track steps, distance, and calories burnt. And if you are a super active person, there are twelve total modes for monitoring running, cycling, mountain climbing, to name a few. As with most of these, you can also look after your sleep patterns and real-time heart rate. And don’t worry about sweat ruining your pristine watch; it’s waterproof. Now the only very tiny grip is that everything reads in the metric system, so there’s a bit of a learning curve. I’ve been pleasantly surprised so far at how much this watch can do. It’s not elite, but it certainly deserves consideration if you’re looking for a low-budget option.

If you’re looking for an affordable phone that is ready to take advantage of 5G speeds, there’s no smarter option right now than the Google Pixel 4a 5G. This unlocked Android 11 handset is smooth and responsive and works with all of the US carriers, has an excellent dual-camera setup on the back, a crisp 6.2” AMOLED screen, and a long-lasting battery.

It’s already a great deal at the list price of $499, but Amazon is currently slashing $50 off the list price. Gizmodo’s Sam Rutherford called the Pixel 4a 5G “hands down the best $500 phone” in his review last fall, and I can echo that sentiment from my own experience with the handset and other recent phones. It’s a super sensible 5G pick, especially at $446.

The Fed could possibly be a catalyst for bonds, and this might drive progress shares for the week forward

0

Traders on the floor of the New York Stock Exchange

Source: NYSE

Bonds could be volatile in the coming week. If yields rise, it could make it difficult for big tech and other growth stocks to gain ground.

Rising bond yields have challenged growth stocks. Names like Apple, Tesla, and Amazon have lagged as investors move to cyclical groups that do well in an economic recovery. Even so, the S&P 500 and Dow both closed at record highs on Friday while the Nasdaq Composite was lower.

The Nasdaq, home of big tech, is up 3% last week but is down 5.5% last month.

For the coming week, the bond market is likely to be oriented towards the Federal Reserve, which will meet on Tuesday and Wednesday.

The central bank is expected to agree to much better growth. Bond professionals are also watching to see if Fed officials will tweak their interest rate outlook, which now doesn’t include rate hikes through 2023.

Fed ahead

“The markets have far too high expectations of what the Fed will do or say,” said Gregory Peters, head of multi-sector and strategy at PGIM Fixed Income. “I think the message will be consistent.”

He said that Fed chairman Jerome Powell likely sounds cautious and likely doesn’t give a timeframe for when the central bank will change its bond purchase program or other policy.

Bond yields, moving against price, have risen due to the improving outlook for the economy.

That trade was evident on the stock market, with the Dow rising 4% to a record 32,778 for the week leading up to Friday. Consumer discretionary, which includes retail, were among the top performers, up 5.7%. This has been compounded by optimism that individuals will spend their $ 1,400 worth of stimulus checks.

Returns were higher on Friday after President Joe Biden said all adults would be eligible for a vaccine by May 1. The yield on 10-year government bonds peaked at 1.642% – its highest level in more than a year.

This is the prime rate to watch as it affects mortgages and other consumer and business loans.

“The economy will be incredibly strong this year – deficit spending, reopening, vaccines,” said PGIM’s Peters.

“It looks like all the numbers will be revised higher for next year,” he said. “So this thing could have sustained growth, and I think there will be pressure on rates going higher.”

Bond yields have risen sharply over the past month. The fast pace of the move has made stocks nervous as investors brace for higher interest rates. The 10-year Treasury yield was 1.16% on February 12th.

Growth versus cyclicals

Last month, energy stocks are up nearly 20%, financial stocks are up 10.2% and industrials are up 7%. The S&P tech sector is down 5.4% last month and communications services, which include Internet names, are up 0.8%.

Higher interest rates are a challenge for technology and other growth stocks because those stocks are expensive and have high price-to-earnings ratios.

“When interest rates are very low, people’s valuations don’t matter,” said Peter Boockvar, chief investment officer at Bleakley Global Advisors.

“When prices are low, there is no penalty,” he said. “When rates go up, people are much more sensitive to valuations, and that’s what we’ve seen here.”

Scott Redler, partner at T3live.com, tracks short term stock market techniques and trades many of the growth stocks. Lately, however, he has sat in many value names and cyclicals.

“The names I’m in – Visa, GM, Ford, Macy’s, 3M. Those were my biggest winners this week,” he said. “It was really hard to make money with Apple, Facebook and Tesla.”

The Nasdaq was hit hardest by the rise in interest rates. Apple was down 0.3% last week but down 10.6% last month. The S&P 500 hit a record high of 3,943, gaining 2.6% last week, but is flat last month, gaining just 0.2%.

“Interest rate volatility could cause another turning point in technology,” said Redler. “Tech hit its reactionary low last week, and this one [past] Week it had an oversold jump. The question is, ‘Was that it?’ “

“Next Wednesday Powell could be the deciding factor,” he said. “Prices have hit higher highs and the technology is a long way from last Friday’s lows. Perhaps the market will be more comfortable.”

Apple’s failure is unusual for the technician. It helped propel market gains last year.

“Look at Apple because it’s a little bit of everything. Apple is growth, technology, retail. If something is going well, it should be Apple,” Redler said.

Bonds volatility

There are some key data in the coming week, including retail sales in February and industrial production on Tuesday. A 20-year Treasury bill worth $ 24 billion will also take place on Tuesday.

The Fed remains the biggest catalyst for the bond market.

The bond market has been speculating on something the Fed may not discuss after their Wednesday afternoon meeting. In one of its moves to prop up the economy during the pandemic, the Fed allowed banks to hold government bonds without adding them to the bank’s leverage ratio. This strategy allowed institutions to use their balance sheets more flexibly for activities such as lending.

The program expires on March 31st.

“This is basically a big problem because so much treasury supply is coming and going [the rule] Basically, it is very criminal for banks to own treasuries, “said Peters from PGIM.

“The markets are divided over what will happen,” he said. “I think most experts believe that an extension is the way forward. They haven’t heard from the Fed on the matter.”

Peters expects the treasury market to remain volatile.

“I think you will see more volatility in a high-pressure, growth economy with extremely high deficits and an accommodative Fed,” he said. “I think you will see these whipping movements.”

Beyoncé and Taylor Swift are among the most famous nominees at the upcoming Grammys 2021.

You are no stranger to the annual awards show, having racked up multiple victories and having attended many Grammy ceremonies throughout your career. Bey, who is nominated for nine prizes this year, took her group to her first Grammy Awards in 2000 Child of destiny, then a quartet instead of a trio, as they were in the early years of their most successful years. Beyoncé made her solo debut on the Grammys red carpet in 2004 when she won her first five awards as a single R&B artist.

Taylor received 20 Grammy nominations for 2021. The star, who previously won 10 Grammys, first attended the annual ceremony in 2008, the year she was nominated for Best New Artist.

Dua Lipa is also nominated for six Grammys this year, two years after making her debut in the Starred Affair and winning two awards.

So which Bethesda Recreation Move sport must you play first?

Loot game passIllustration: Bethesda

You can start playing today a bundle Bethesda released games on Game Pass, thanks to Microsoft and ZeniMax’s recent marriage. Some were previously available. Many are new. If you’re a member of Microsoft’s Games-on-Demand service, 20 largely great games are now available to you.

You can’t play all of them at once, of course. For starters, these games aren’t small. The beefy Xbox Series X may have 1TB of storage, but that fills up quicklyand there’s no point in filling your library with tons of games that have a lot of DNA in common. Then there is the little thing about your most precious resource: time.

So where do i start? It depends on what you want to play. If you are looking for …

… a shooter: play Doom Eternal.

Doom Eternal has only one speed: fast. Most shooters are about being careful: taking cover, directing shots, saying funny military terms like “reload” and “cover fire”. The modern hack and slash doom games say more or less hell with that. Since you restore health and ammo by hitting enemies, you need to keep moving. It is mandatory to be very close. Stand still for a second and you are done.

As great as Doom 2016 is (and it is indeed worth playing), Doom Eternal increases the overall craze to 11. In addition to new enemy types, you also get a grappling hook – the only tool that has never been in a better game – and a damn sword. Don’t worry about catching up on the plot. All you really need to know is: demons, evil, kill.

… an immersive sim: play loot.

Loot game passScreenshot: Bethesda

Arkane Studios are perhaps best known for the Dishonored games (both are excellent and on Game Pass), but the studio really made it out of the park with Prey. While technically the same intellectual property as the 2006 game, don’t worry: there’s no relationship between the two. You don’t have to deal with any lore. You can go completely cold. If anything, new prey feels more like BioShock than old prey.

The modern loot will take over a space station, the fictional Talos I, in the near future, an alternate story in which JFK was not murdered, which apparently resulted in the ’60s-style mod decor lasting into the 2030s. Talos I is largely searched, ruined and abandoned, the result of a malicious alien presence. That sounds scary – it’s scary – but on the flip side, it gives you some seriously cool otherworldly powers, including one that you can use to occupy basically any object in the game. The story is a bit boring, so the greatest joy is exploring the space station, discovering new passageways, unlocking new powers and slowly but surely getting strong enough to actually defeat the creepy monsters. Just don’t get your hopes for a solid ending.

… an RPG: Play Fallout 4.

Fallout 4 game passScreenshot: Bethesda

You’ve no doubt heard that Fallout: New Vegas is the main RPG under Bethesda’s jurisdiction. It is sure to be a solid game where your decisions have weight and consistency. It’s also a thousand years old. Frankly, those new to the broad Bethesda RPG genre should start with Fallout 4, the group’s newest and most modern feel.

Fallout 4, like any other Fallout, takes place in a version of America that has been torn to pieces. It’s a real mix of first-person shooting and first-person statistics mixing, as you’re just as likely to get into a gun battle as you would in a series of branching dialogue options. It’s all wrapped in an amazingly large open world that invites you to explore.

But Fallout 4 does what no other modern Fallout does: it shows you the Before Times. The first moments of Fallout 4 begin the day America is turned into radioactive dust. You’ll be smuggled into a vault, cryogenically frozen against your expectation, and wake up two centuries later, whereupon you’ll be released into a version of Boston that looks like Boston today after the Red Sox won a home game. (Side note: Why are Bostonians searching their city if their team wins? I never got that.) That first look is well worth starting with Fallout 4. The game has a sturdy base builder element as well if you’re into that kind of thing.

Sanofi CEO about navigating Covid a 12 months later. What now?

Paul Hudson is the CEO of Sanofi. The French pharmaceutical company has two Covid-19 vaccines in development – one with GlaxoSmithKline and one with Translate Bio for an mRNA vaccine. It also makes vaccine doses for competitors Johnson & Johnson and Pfizer.

As the one-year anniversary of the first lockdowns around the world begins, it is clear that the Covid-19 pandemic is still going on and staying here.

To date, the virus has killed over 2.5 million people and infected millions more worldwide. While vaccines give us hope, we face new challenges as different varieties spread around the world that challenge the effectiveness of currently approved vaccines. As the virus mutates, there is a realization that Covid-19 could move from a pandemic to an endemic one and this is becoming a ubiquitous disease that will stay with us for the foreseeable future. However, now we know how to deal with it.

We need to adjust our thinking from the time the virus disappears to learning how to deal with it so that it becomes less threatening. How do we successfully navigate the road instead of looking for the light at the end of the tunnel? It won’t be easy, but we can do it through variant preparation, continued genome monitoring, data mining and analysis, and purpose-driven collaboration.

Willingness to vary

First, we should assume that Covid-19 will not go away. Although this thought can be unsettling, it is a reminder that we need to be prepared for ongoing boosters in order to receive new variants such as Great Britain (B.1.1.7), South Africa (B.1.351), Brazil (P.1) or prevent a completely new variant from being circulated and taking more life.

First Covid-19 vaccines have already proven successful in limiting the spread of disease. However, there are concerns that if we don’t vaccinate quickly enough, we will not be able to keep up with the pace of virus mutations and variants could gain a foothold in the community and cause new outbreaks. Research is still being conducted into how current vaccines protect against variants and whether annual vaccination might be required, similar to the one for the influenza virus.

Our first priority is to get everyone vaccinated around the world. We need to develop boosters at the same time to address mutations as needed. Several manufacturers with vaccines in the market are already evaluating annual booster vaccinations to maintain immunity and treat variants after the first two doses are given.

As with the influenza virus, we need to consider the potential need for vaccines with multiple variants. Covid-19 has been mutating all along, and although we have identified several key strains, there are hypotheses that viral mutations that offer an advantage in transmission may evade the protection of naturally acquired or vaccine-induced immunity. However, this also underscores the importance of multiple vaccine manufacturers as those still in clinical development can customize their vaccines to ensure that their candidates can protect against important new mutations.

Genomic surveillance

To better track variants, governments and healthcare companies need to invest in genome monitoring infrastructure by working with technology companies to identify mutations in the virus. Variations are inevitable, but we need this infrastructure in place to quickly identify mutations and spread this data globally to quickly control the spread.

The UK is the world leader in virus sequencing, collecting nearly 4 million virus samples. Thanks to the country’s regular testing and genome sequencing capabilities, they were able to detect the B.1.1.7 variant of the virus, which otherwise might have gone unnoticed. To ensure this data is widely available, the UK is placing its genomes in the global library initiative to share all influenza data. As of January 29, the country has submitted 44% of the genomes in the library.

Data mining and analysis

While genomic testing infrastructure is required to identify new mutations, that effort is minimal if we do not use data and analysis for our health and vaccine systems. In this way, we can improve our logistics for both the distribution and administration of vaccines, and we can quickly track and overcome hot spots.

Analytics companies and startups are using health data mining to anticipate the next Covid-19 hotspots so that health systems not only prepare for vaccines, but potentially make decisions about giving advice to risk groups and reintroducing non-pharmaceuticals Products can expect interventions, ensuring adequate supplies of PPE, medication and health equipment.

Mayo Clinic researchers used data to analyze keywords from Google Trends, including “face mask”, “Lysol” and “test center”. They found that these searches can identify a new hot spot or outbreak up to 16 days before the first report of a spike in cases. With this information, governments can monitor Google Search to better track the spread digitally, and then use it to strategically distribute PPE supplies or redirect funds to areas that need it most – before cases even start to rise .

Purposeful actions

Cooperation during the Covid-19 pandemic has taken place at an unprecedented level. Corporations, governments and regulators have moved at an incredible pace to approve the necessary therapies and vaccines for patients. Former competitors are now working together to bring the needs of patients and the world’s population to the fore. However, in order to bring about a meaningful change, these measures must be purpose-oriented.

We’re working with traditional competitors to make their vaccines so we can get more doses into patients’ arms faster. We didn’t hesitate to help, and other companies should step in and help too. We must act purposefully and put aside “competition” in order to do what is best for humanity.

If we don’t swear to overhaul our old systems, we risk reverting to these outdated methods. Other large companies outside the pharmaceutical industry can also help. Take, for example, companies like Walmart, Starbucks, Microsoft, and Amazon that are working with local governments and healthcare providers in the United States to increase vaccine distribution. Some companies like CVS, Walgreens, and others have experience serving hundreds of thousands of customers on a given day and have the expertise needed to enable vaccines to vaccinate patients quickly and efficiently.

The pandemic is constantly changing the way we work. If we learn to live with Covid-19, we need to accelerate our pace and find new ways to work together. Most of all, we need to move forward in a focused manner and work with traditional competitors and non-traditional partners to do the right thing.

Banks are closed for four days; Folks frightened if ATMs ran out of cash financial institution strike | Holidays | Banks are on strike for four days

0

Thiruvananthapuram: The banks will have stopped working for four days since Saturday. March 13th is the second Saturday and March 14th is Sunday, while a nationwide bank strike will take place on March 15th and 16th.

All bank employee associations will take part in the strike against the privatization of public sector banks.

People are concerned when ATMs run out of money when banks are closed continuously for four days. However, banking authorities said it was unlikely.

The offsite ATMs, which are located far from the bank branches, are replenished by outsourcing agencies. Since these agencies are not participating in the strike, the ATMs are unlikely to run out of money.

The ATMs near the bank branches offer the possibility of withdrawing and depositing money. When the banks are not working, the public can rely on these ATMs to deposit funds.
