Sometimes birds fly into windows. In other cases, they can perch on the outside of your windowsill and peck a little. It might seem like they’re trying to get your attention, and if you’ve been stuck in the last year, you might even be tempted to let it in for a quick chat. (But not.)

And then there are some birds that return day after day and aggressively peck at your window as if you owe them money. Not only are they annoying, but pecking could hurt their beak and windows. Here’s how to prevent this from happening.

Why do birds peck at windows?

Every year during the mating season of the birds – from May to August – male birds try to find a perfect place for their new nest. And once they do, they protect it as well as the area around it. Sometimes this area is in a person’s back yard, including the back of a house.

Melting snow basement floods are caused when snow collects around the foundation of your home or property in winter and melts as the temperature warms. Combined with spring rainfall, this buildup of water can get into the ground and seep into the groundwater, causing flooding in your basement. If the foundation is susceptible to groundwater ingress, the chances of having water in your basement increase.

• If your home is on an incline or hill, shovel snow so it doesn’t roll towards your home when it melts. This ensures that melting snow will flow away from, and not into, your home.
• Remove snow from your roof to avoid excessive buildup. This will prevent a significant amount of water from flowing through your gutters during thawing.
• Keep the drainage areas around your home free of snow and ice. This ensures that melting snow drains properly and prevents backups.
• Examine the basement walls for cracks. This also includes sealing around windows. Make the necessary repairs to prevent water from entering your basement.
• Review your landscape before the snow arrives to make sure the ground is sloping away from your home. If necessary, add additional soil to allow the melting snow to drain off your foundation.
• Check your roof for ice and snow build-up. This can cause ice damage that can allow melting snow to seep through your roof.
• Check your gutters and downspouts. In the fall, remove leaves and other debris regularly as this can cause clogging. Add downspout extensions to draw melting snow away from your home.
• Test your sump pump in the winter to make sure it works properly when the snow melts. Pour a bucket of water into the sump to turn on the pump. If it does not turn on, unplug the power cord from the outlet and investigate the problem.

If water ends up in your basement, don’t ignore it. Keep the area where the water got as clean and dry as possible.

It’s been an exciting, but confusing 24 hours for Final Fantasy fans. In last night’s State of Play, Sony revealed that Final Fantasy VII Remake is getting a PS5 upgrade called Intergrade, which features new content. Players can upgrade their PS4 copy for free, but will have to buy the new content separately. To make matters more confusing, Sony announced that the remake will be free on PS Plus in March, however it won’t be eligible for an upgrade. It’s all a big mess right now that’s leaving players confused.

If you want to get a version of Final Fantasy VII Remake that you actually can upgrade, you’ll still have to buy it outright. Luckily, Amazon has the game down to $30 right now. I love a video game art book. Getting to see concept art from games I love in a big coffee table book is always a delight. Whether it’s character models, scenery, or general asset designs, I just find game art books somewhat soothing to flip through. The opposite is probably true for The Art of Doom Eternal, which is $24 on Amazon right now. I imagine this 192-page book is full of blood and demons, which kicks ass. I personally think it would be the funniest book you could leave out on your coffee table for friends to nose through. It will either make you look like an absolute badass or a total weirdo. That’s a gamble I’m personally willing to take.

In 2020, my New Year’s resolution was to only refer to the Joker as “The J-Man” whenever I talked about him. I figured it wouldn’t be that hard. How much does one talk about The Joker in a given year? Then the film Joker got nominated for 11 Oscars including Best Picture and my life was ruined for 12 months. It probably wasn’t the worst thing about 2020, but it was certainly a low point. Meanwhile, the Galaxy S21+ is down from $1,000 to $800 for the 128GB model. That phone features a 6.7″ display and the same resolution and refresh rate as the S21. Both have 8GB of RAM as well as Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 888 processor and 5G radio support. On the back, both phones have a three-camera setup featuring a 12-megapixel wide-angle lens, a 12-megapixel ultrawide lens, and a 64-megapixel telephoto lens. As with the standard S21, the S21+’s 256GB model is down to the same price, $800, though there’s a longer delay in shipping there, as well.

On the higher end lies the Galaxy S21 Ultra, which is down from $1,200 to $1,000 for the 128GB model. For your money, you’ll get a 6.8″ 3,200 x 1,440 OLED display with a refresh rate of 120Hz, 12GB of RAM, up to 512GB of storage, and a 5,000mAh battery. The Ultra packs four lenses into its camera module, including a 108-megapixel lens, two 10-megapixel telephoto lenses (with 3x and 10x zooms), and a 12-megapixel ultrawide lens.
