GUANGZHOU, China – Shares in Chinese short video company Kuaishou rose nearly 200% on its debut in Hong Kong when it opened.

The tech firm raised Hong Kong dollars 41.28 billion ($ 5.32 billion) from its initial public offering (IPO) after valuation of its shares at Hong Kong dollars 115 each at the top of its expected range.

Kuaishou shares opened at $ 338 Hong Kong.

The company’s main business is a short make money video app that users buy who buy virtual gifts to give to their favorite streamers. Kuaishou is also pushing into new areas like e-commerce.

Kuaishou said its IPO was oversubscribed with high demand. If the so-called allotment option is exercised, which allows the investment bank to issue more shares, Kuaishou could raise over $ 6 billion.

Ten cornerstone investors, led by Capital Group, with interests in BlackRock and Fidelity, invested in the IPO.

Kuaishou’s listing will be an appetite test for Chinese tech companies, while Beijing is stepping up its scrutiny of the sector in areas from antimonopoly to privacy. In November, the Chinese government introduced rules on live streaming purchases that could affect Kuaishou.

The IPO is also another win for the Hong Kong Stock Exchange, which has managed to attract high profile tech companies and secondary listings. US-listed Chinese companies like Alibaba and JD.com have also raised money in Hong Kong. CNBC reported that the Nasdaq-listed Chinese video company Bilibili has also applied for a secondary listing in Hong Kong.

Kuaishou faces stiff competition in China from rivals such as Douyin, ByteDance’s Chinese version of TikTok, and Tencent’s WeChat messaging app.

Kuaishou nearly triples after the largest internet IPO since Uber

The Tencent Holdings Ltd. Supported Business was valued at $ 179 billion. The company sold around 365 million shares at the top of its price range. This is the world’s largest IPO on the Internet since the sale of US stocks valued at $ 8.1 billion in May 2019. That spectacular surge gave Kuaishou a prize rivaling ByteDance, which was funded by $ 180 billion -Dollars searched. If profits continue, this would mark Kuaishou’s second-best debut ever for a $ 1 billion IPO worldwide, data from Bloomberg shows. It joins an already long list of floats that have popped up on their first day of trading in recent months amid a deluge of liquidity and extremely low interest rates. The successful debut will be an encouraging sign for bigger rival ByteDance in discussions to list some of its Hong Kong assets. The TikTok owner, who has long been an alleged IPO candidate, got stuck last year while battling a U.S. ban on its globally popular app after being classified as a national security threat. “A successful listing of Kuaishou will pave the way for its bigger rival,” said Bloomberg Vey-Sern Ling, senior intelligence analyst. “Douyin will be more motivated to get to market and investors can get a better look at the Chinese short video industry with Kuaishou’s regular disclosures.” Kuaishou’s coming-out party broke records in Hong Kong for the number of retail investors who subscribed to the company’s shares and the amount pledged. Approximately 1.4 million mom and pop investors – one in five people in town – submitted orders valued at HKD 1.26 trillion ($ 163 billion), while institutional buyers raised nearly $ 200 billion. Demand matched the frenzy in Hong Kong part of Ant Group Co.’s mega IPO, which saw HK $ 1.3 trillion bids placed on the retail tranche before the proposed $ 17.2 billion offering collapsed . Founded by ex-Google employees Su Hua and Cheng Yixiao as an app that relies on animated GIF sharing, Kuaishou turned to a short video in 2013, and added live streaming in 2016 to watch two of the hottest social media outlets Formats of the world to gain a foothold. As of November 2020, the main Kuaishou app had an average of 264 million daily active users, less than half of the 600 million on Douyin, according to the prospectus. Even so, it grew quickly. In the first nine months of last year, revenue soared 49% to 40.7 billion yuan ($ 6.3 billion) after the company stepped up monetization efforts through advertising and e-commerce. While Kuaishou offers free access to its main platform, the startup takes some of the tips users give their favorite live streamers, run viral challenges, sync with the latest pop songs, and play video games. How you can get higher at leaping

0

a guy is jumpingPhoto: BublikHaus (Shutterstock)

Jumping is a useful skill in sports like basketball and a great way to work on your explosive power. If you want to jump higher and better, we have some tips for you.

Test your vertical jump

Before you start working on your jumping ability, establish a baseline by figuring out what your vertical jump is. Sometimes gyms have a device to do what it looks like a series of flat blades on hinges. They reach up and try to knock them out of line. The highest one you’ve moved marks the top of your jump.

But when you are at home, there are low tech ways to test. Ball up a piece of duct tape with the sticky side out and tape it to your fingertip. Jump next to a wall and hit the wall on top of your jump to glue the ball to the wall. The difference between the ribbon ball and the tallest one you can reach while standing is the height of your vertical jump.

Another easy way to test that works well on outdoor walls is to just apply some chalk (pick up chalk or chalk on the sidewalk, whatever) to your fingertip. Touch the wall while standing and again while jumping, then measure the difference.

Learn to land properly

If you are going to jump a lot, make sure you do it safely. Land gently and absorb the force of your landing with your knees and hips bent into a very light squat. Your knees should not collapse when you land or take off, and your feet should be about hip-width apart. Here is a video demonstration of the safe landing principles.

It’s also important not to jump a lot if you’re not used to it. Landing jumps is tough on your body and you need to exercise slowly to get your body used to full plyometric training.

Build strength

While jumping exercises will improve your jumping skills and help you develop strength, you will still need weight training to develop strength. The stronger your legs, the higher you can jump.

USA basketball recommends The drop bar deadlift is the best exercise for building strength to jump. This is a movement that is sort of a hybrid between the squat and deadlift, and builds strength in your hamstrings, glutes, and quads. The technique is also relatively easy to learn.

If you don’t have access to a trap bar, make sure you have some other heavy leg exercises in your routine. Squats, deadlifts, and lunges are some of the most useful.

Build power

Power is not exactly the same as strength. Strength refers to force exerted quickly over time. Jumping itself is a strength exercise, but other strength exercises can help you build strength without the effects of actual jumping.

Despite the name, powerlifting is not suitable. The squat, bench, and deadlift strength are usually not done quickly. One exception that might help with jumping are speed deadlifts. They are exactly what they sound like. Deadlifts are quick and easy. (Sets of three repetitions, say 60% of your max.) Kettlebell swings also work on strength, especially if you make them heavy.

Olympic lifts are classic examples of strength training. The tearing and cleaning and jerking are the lifts performed in competition, but their variations can be useful as part of an exercise program. Perhaps you’ve done Power Clean, Power Snatches, or One-Handed Dumbbell Snatches. All of this requires a quick explosive lift that requires your legs to press against the floor to get your body into an upright position and then immediately bend over to absorb strength – much like what you ask your body to do when jumping .

Practice jumping

If you want to jump better, you actually have to jump. Try some or all of the steps below, but make sure you don’t overdo it on your first day. Work some of these into your routine over time:

  • Squat jumps
  • Tuck jumps
  • Split jumps (like a lunge but alternating feet with each jump)
  • Long jumps (as far forward as possible)
  • Box jumps

Overcome your fear of box jumps

Box jumps are a special category because there is a bit more going on than just jumping. First, note that very high box jumps often have less to do with your jumping ability than with your ability to pull up your knees to prevent landing. For this reason, many coaches prefer to keep people on medium sized boxes rather than jumping higher and higher.

Second, they can be intimidating. To overcome your fear, start with a very small box to build trust. Even if you’re jumping on an aerobic step or bumper plate on its side, this is still a start. We have a few You can find more tips on box jumps here, take a look and jump!

Biden will announce the tip of US assist for offensive army operations in Yemen

WASHINGTON – President Joe Biden will announce the end of US support for offensive operations in Yemen on Thursday and will appoint a new envoy to oversee the nation’s diplomatic mission to end the civil war there.

Biden’s policies, however, will not extend to US offensive operations against Al Qaida’s subsidiary in the region known as AQAP.

“It does not extend to actions against AQAP that we are taking to protect the homeland and American interests in the region, as well as our allies and partners,” National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan told reporters at a news conference at the White House Thursday.

“It extends to the types of offensive operations that perpetuated a civil war in Yemen that turned into a humanitarian crisis,” Sullivan said.

Biden will speak to Tim Lenderking, deputy assistant secretary of state for Iran, Iraq and Regional Affairs, to oversee the US diplomatic mission in Yemen, a person familiar with the decision told NBC News.

Biden’s announcement will be part of a larger foreign policy speech that he will give later on Thursday at the US State Department with top American diplomat Antony Blinken.

“He will talk about the United States playing a more active and committed role in diplomacy to end the conflict in Yemen, and that includes appointing a special envoy,” said Sullivan.

The US has informed Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates of its decision, Sullivan said. The Saudis and the UAE have been launching attacks against Houthi forces in Yemen since March 2015.

Allies of former Yemeni President Ali Abdullah Saleh, the Houthis took over the capital of Yemen in 2014, escalating tensions and accelerating intervention in Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates. The US accuses the Houthis of receiving support from Iran.

The United Nations previously said that the ongoing armed conflict in Yemen has caused the largest humanitarian crisis in the world. The US provided more than $ 630 million in humanitarian aid to Yemen in fiscal 2020, according to the State Department.

That is how you employ the residual warmth of your oven

Heating up an entire oven takes a lot of energy, and it can be a little wasteful to use it all to heat a single food (whether it’s a party pizza or a small pork loin). But as anyone who has ever used an oven knows, ovens stay hot and roasted even after they are turned off – that’s the marvel of thermodynamics – so you might as well get that heat working.

Illustration for article titled How to Use the Residual Heat of Your Oven

For example, let’s say you’ve bought (or baked) a nice baguette to have with your oven-cooked dinner, but all of your butter is (tragically) cool and cold in the refrigerator. Place the butter in a rimmed bowl, set the bowl on the warm oven and let it sit and soften while you set the table. (How quickly it softens depends on how hot the thing ran, so use your best judgment.) If your bread is a little stale, don’t fret. Residual heat can also be used to crisp bread that is a day or two old (Let it run underwater at first it’s really stale).

When a good chunk of time has passed and most of the heat is already seeping out of your oven, you can step up your cheese course by using the final heat to bring a fancy cheese to room temperature. (Room temperature cheese tastes much better as cold cheese.) You can also throw bread dough in there and use it as a proof drawer – but only after it has cooled significantly; You want it to be warm – between 75 and 95ºF – not hot.

I find a warm stove in the morning to be particularly helpful. I will often keep my bacon in the oven after turning it off to keep it hot and I will throw the toast in to toast it well until the eggs are done. (I always cook the eggs last as they have to cook quickly and be served hot.) If your oven wasn’t set too high to begin with, you can even use it as a plate warmer. Nothing ruins a hot egg like a cool plate.

Airways and unions are looking for extra federal support because the demand for journey continues to be low

Association of Flight Attendants International President Sara Nelson, along with airline executives, union colleagues and political leaders, urges Congress to extend the wage and salary support program during a press conference outside the U.S. Capitol on September 22, 2020 Adopt Payroll To Save Thousands Of Jobs Washington, DC

Chip Somodevilla | Getty Images

Some airline executives and unions are seeking a third round of billions in federal aid as tens of thousands of workers retire and demand for travel remains depressed amid the pandemic.

The current $ 15 billion bailout expires on April 1, and American Airlines and United Airlines warned last week that they could cut a total of 27,000 jobs. These funds can only be used to pay workers and require them to recall workers on leave and maintain their current jobs.

“Basic workers have lived with incredible chaos and insecurity. The vacation days are noticeable to the entire workforce,” said Sara Nelson, international president of the Association of Flight Attendants-CWA, the country’s largest flight attendants union, in a written testimony at a house hearing Thursday . “A continuation of [payroll support] I can not wait any longer. “

Congress provided $ 25 billion in aid to keep employees on the payroll at the start of the pandemic last year, which required them to keep their jobs through October 1. The same terms through to March 31. Airlines and unions now want another $ 15 billion to guarantee jobs through September 30th.

“We are fully behind our union leaders’ efforts to fight for an extension and we will use our time and energy to support that effort in any way we can,” said Doug Parker, CEO of American Airlines and Robert Isom, president , in an employee statement announcing 13,000 holiday warnings on Wednesday. “Our nation’s leaders know the vital role the airline’s staff play in keeping the country moving. They showed their support last year, and we will encourage them to do the same again while the pandemic rises all over the world. “

Last week United Airlines announced to employees that they are “continuing to monitor demand and advocate for continued government support,” and we are all working hard on the day we can bring our employees back on permanent leave.

The demand for travel is still weak. U.S. airlines lost a record $ 34 billion in 2020 and have warned that if they adhere to new travel restrictions and testing requirements, they can expect a rocky start to 2021.

Last month, the US urged incoming travelers to test negative for Covid-19 in order to board flights to the US. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention are now trying “actively” to make Covid tests mandatory for domestic travel, something the industry vehemently rejects.

When asked whether the industry should get a third round of government aid, Robin Hayes, CEO of JetBlue Airways, told CNBC on Monday that the hardest-hit travel and hospitality sector is among the hardest-hit parts of the economy.

“I think it is right and natural that specific support should be given here,” said Hayes.

The company continues Apple’s celebration of black culture and has released new (and beautiful) “Unity” wallpapers. This addition to Apple’s Black Unity Collection follows on from Apple’s introduction Watch faces on the theme of unity, Apple Watches, and Apple Watch bands, available now in every Apple Store.

As a reminder: The Black Unity Collection takes its colors from the pan-African flag and emphasizes: “A symbol that connects people across the African diaspora.” As Apple wrote when it launched its new watch faces:

“Red stands for the blood that binds people in the African diaspora and was shed for their liberation. Black is for the people whose lives are confirmed by the flag. And green is a symbol of the living, natural wealth of Africa, the mother country. “

As a reminder, you can switch your macOS wallpaper by clicking the Apple logo in the top left corner and going System Preferences> Desktop & Screen Saver.

Under iOS / iPadOS you have to go to the option the settings App and navigate to the aptly named background Section. And yes, Apple’s offering is just a single Unity wallpaper for each device. Those of you looking for a fancier option – like a dynamic wallpaper that changes color depending on the time of day – will have it look elsewhere for a similar thematic background. Or you can use too an online tool to create different color-shifted versions of the Unity wallpaper, and then use an app to combine them into a single dynamic wallpaper. This is a bit of work, but it will look great.
