GameStop reverses greater, rising 16% because the inventory shakes off new dealer limits for buying and selling

GameStop shares quickly gave up their gains ahead of the IPO, but rebounded in the troubled opening minutes of the session as brokers restricted trading in stocks.

The stock rose 16% in early trading after falling on the opening bell. The stocks rose at one point in premarket trading and at one point momentarily exceeded $ 500 each in premarket. The stock began to fall when it became known that Robinhood and Interactive Brokers were restricting trading.

The wild is moving in strong volume by more than 130% on Wednesday and has been increasing its gains to 466% for weeks. The stock was worth about $ 40 a week ago.

On Thursday morning David Tepper, founder of Appaloosa Management, said CNBC investors should play carefully with speculative names.

“It was partyon.com screwed up the shorts in 1999 and now it’s gangup.in. It didn’t end well in 1999 when the dotcom bubble burst. Got done there. Old scars,” he said of Joe Kernen CNBC.

GameStop was a brand new target on WallStreetBets Reddit chat room, where an army of retail investors gathered at home to drive stocks higher and crowd out hedge fund short sales. The forum, which now has more than four million members, was briefly privatized Wednesday night as moderators said they could “not ensure Reddit’s content policy”.

A trending post on Thursday said, “Don’t be afraid of $ GME $ BB falling. Hedge funds are trading by the hours to scare you all … BUY AND HOLD.” The post quickly drew more than 1,000 comments in an hour.

Another top post in the community said “Buy high, never sell” and featured a photo from GameStop.

Some of the avid Reddit users have shared screenshots of their brokerage accounts showing tremendous returns from trading GameStop and other names.

“The action in GameStop stock is a game of musical chairs, and I advise investors to sell before the music stops,” said David Trainer, CEO of New Constructs. “As moody as the retail mob was to pick GameStop as one of their favorite stocks, they could also be moody about when to drop the stock.”

The Reddit crowd targeted other heavily shortened names including Bed Bath & Beyond and AMC Entertainment.

AMC climbed 300% on Wednesday alone, bringing its weekly rally over 450%. In the previous session, more than a billion shares changed hands in AMC, marking the highest volume day of all time. Bed Bath & Beyond is also up 75% this week. The duo gave way in premarket trading on Thursday.

The extreme speculative behavior of rookie investors worries many on Wall Street as rising losses from hedge funds could spill over into other areas of the market. Some also believe that this buying frenzy could hurt overall market confidence and destabilize conditions.

The S&P 500 and Dow Jones Industrial Average suffered their largest loss since October on Wednesday as concerns about the mania deepened.

Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian said Thursday that GameStop’s trading frenzy marked a turning point in the U.S. investment landscape.

“I think this is a crucial moment. I don’t think we’ll go back to a world before then because these communities are a by-product of the connected internet,” Ohanian said in a Squawk Box interview. “Whether it is one platform or the other, this is the new normal.”

flip off Chrome notifications when sharing your display screen

0

Just like video chatting, screen sharing is now a required tool for anyone working or socializing from home. Unfortunately, sharing your device’s screen can pose a privacy risk – or just embarrassing – if you don’t take precautions against accidental oversharing. To minimize this risk, Google is testing a new feature that will mute Chrome notifications while you’re sharing a Chrome window so your browser can’t air your dirty laundry without warning.

Image for the article titled Mute Chrome Notifications While Sharing Your Screen

While Google Meet already automatically mutes Chrome notifications, the new Chrome feature works with screen sharing apps like Messenger, Discord, Microsoft Teams and Zoom on desktop and mobile devices. Enabling it will prevent Chrome from sharing notification details with your audience and will help you keep your presentations professional and distraction-free.

Instead of turning off notifications at any time, they just mute them while you’re sharing the screen. They are not ignored or discarded. When you’re done sharing, you’ll be able to see any missing Gmail, Drive, and third-party websites that are sending you notifications through Chrome.

G / O Media can receive a commission

Muting notifications may be available to all Google accounts – including general users, Google Workspace, and G Suite corporate users – through the stable Chrome channel. However, you can now try an early version in Chrome Canary. Chrome Canary is used to test unfinished functions and settings, causing stability errors and crashes. However, you need to use this version if you want to mute Chrome notifications during your presentations. Here’s a try:

  1. Download Chrome Canary for your device.
  2. Open the browser and go to chrome: // flags / # mute notifications while screen sharing.
  3. Choose “Activate” from the drop down menu.
  4. Restart Chrome Canary for the changes to take effect.

When the setting is enabled, Chrome will hide all details from incoming notifications during screen sharing. The notification will still be displayed with the Chrome icon on the screen. However, it just shows that the content is hidden while sharing your screen. Choose “Shut down” to hide the popup. There is also an option too “Show all” If you want all notification information to be shown. Otherwise, the hidden information will not be shown until you finish sharing your screen.

If you don’t want to download Chrome Canary, but still need a way to mute notifications, or don’t want to show Chrome notifications, you can turn it off in Chrome Settings by going to Settings> Privacy & Security> Site Settings> Permissions> Notifications.

How Halsey discovered happiness after a heartbreakingly robust street to fame

0

Because while she’s garnered two Grammy nods, a handful of Billboard Music trophies, and played at Madison Square Garden, those aren’t the goals that make up her bucket list. “No award, distinction or nomination changes my fans’ relationship with my music because I think the young people who hear it are intelligent enough to think for themselves,” she told NME in 2018. “That’s why I stopped taking care of everything.” I stopped going to awards shows: I didn’t go to the Grammys, I didn’t go to the VMAs … “

She devotes her time to causes, which are dedicated to events such as the Women’s March, participating in awareness campaigns for mental health and suicide prevention, and making generous donations for planned parenthood.

As for the rest, admittedly, she’s still figured that out.

“I’m in my 20s so I’m constantly evolving,” noted Halsey Marie Claire in 2018. “When I was writing about my Playboy cover, someone said,” Oh, you showed your tits in Playboy but you name it you a feminist? ‘ I said, “Yes, dude. In a year I performed at the Nobel Peace Prize [Concert] In Oslo, I donated $ 100,000 to Planned Parenthood, got my first Grammy nomination, showed my tits in Playboy, and did about 150 tequila shots. I’ve done all of these things, and that’s because I’m multidimensional. ”

What’s new at (and leaving) HBO Max in February 2021

A statue of Earwig and the WitchScreenshot: Earwig and the Witch / Studio Ghibli (Fair use)

One of the biggest selling points for HBO Max is that it gives exclusive access to every movie from Studio Ghibli, the legendary Japanese filmmakers behind My Neighbor Totoro and Spirited Away – and that includes a brand new movie that released in February, Earwig and the Witch ( February 12th).

This movie is a big deal for Studio Ghibli for a number of reasons. It’s her first feature since 2014 when Marnie was there. The company even closed for a while in the meantime before co-founder Hayao Miyazaki decided to step out of retirement to make one final film. Earwig isn’t – this one is actually staged by Miyazaki’s son Goro, who previously took over the reins for Tales from Earthsea and From Up on Poppy Hill. Based on a book by the late British author Diana Wynne Jones, who also provided the source material for the elder Miyazaki’s Howl’s Moving Castle, it marks the studio’s first foray into fully computer-generated Pixar-style animation.

As a longtime Studio Ghibli obsessee, I was admittedly a little worried about the first stills of the CGI protagonist, a young girl who, like many fantasy orphans before her, discovered that she had a magical fate. House style didn’t seem to translate into three dimensions right away. Fortunately, the full trailer looks more promising, if a little strange:

I would prefer it to be another traditionally animated Ghibli masterpiece, but for that we’ll have to wait for Hayao Miyazaki’s next pandemic-delayed production, How Do You Live? Sometime this year or in 2022 in Japan. In the meantime, I’ll take what I can get.

Plenty of other good, exclusive stuff is coming to the streaming service this month, including the late premiere of the film Judas and the Black Messiah (February 12) and It’s a Sin (February 18), a critically acclaimed new limited series from the makers of Queer as Folk about the early years of the AIDS pandemic. Superhero fans will appreciate the addition of a range of DC content, including any missing Batman movies and the Justice League animated series. And it’s worth noting that sci-fi fans got a treat earlier this week with the surprise addition of the full, remastered ’90s cult series Babylon 5 in late January.

Here’s the list of everything that’s coming (and leaving) HBO Max in February 2021. Titles with (HBO) next to them are available on HBO and HBO Max. everything else is exclusive to HBO Max.

5 digital currencies to spend money on alongside Bitcoin (and its 2020 efficiency), Cash Information

0

After Bitcoin’s staggering spike to a record $ 40,000 (S $ 53,000) in January 2021, digital currencies, or cryptocurrencies, have caught the public eye.

From around US $ 7,000 in January 2020, Bitcoin rose to around US $ 30,000 by December 2020, reaching a new record high of over US $ 40,000 in January 2021 and is now at US $ 32,000.

By comparison, Tesla, the hottest stock of 2020, rose from around $ 100 to over $ 700 from January 2020 to December 2020, while the S&P 500 only gained around 15 percent over the same period. With wins like that, it’s no wonder even the man on the street is talking about Bitcoin (and Tesla).

Be prepared in case your glasses inevitably break

0

Illustration for article titled Be Ready if Your Glasses Inevitably BreakPhoto: Lorenzo Sala (Shutterstock)

You step on your glasses in the middle of the night. Or a house fire melts your glasses frames. A tornado rips your glasses right off your face. Or a pandemic worsens, your glasses break, everything shuts down, there is no way to get a replacement. As a wearer of glasses, I’ve thought about all of these options and more. You may have done this too, but haven’t taken any steps to prepare for a potential future without glasses. Let’s fix that.

Get your glasses

Glasses can scratch and break, which is why you should have multiple pairs. I currently have five pairs available. Sure, glasses can get expensive and prescriptions can change – but an old prescription is better than nothing in an emergency. So keep it when you get a new pair. Keep extra pairs in your pocket, desk, and car. And if you have an emergency bag, make sure you have glasses there too.

If you are traveling far from home, bring an extra couple or two for your trip and separate them as if they were the President and Vice President leaving the capital. This is especially useful if you are camping, hiking, boating, or anywhere other than home (or as an optician).

Avoid scratches

If possible, get scratch-resistant lenses and only clean them with an appropriate material such as a microfiber cloth. Eye Buy Direct warns against cleaning your glasses with your shirt, as clothing fibers can damage your lenses more than you might think; Paper towels and napkins can be worse.

In an emergency you can use Dish soap and warm water to clean your glasses without scratching the lenses. Use your fingertips and rub the lenses with a dish soap without lotion. Then rinse them off under warm water.

Another thing that you need is a suitable glasses case, which can range from cheap plastic to expensive leather. When you are not at home, you should always have an extra empty suitcase with you, as well as a glasses repair kit with small screws, a screwdriver, a cleaning cloth, nose pads and a magnifying glass. You should have two kits for every pair of glasses you have and keep them with your emergency glasses. You will never be without glasses or an easy fix when you need them.

Plan for worst-case scenarios

In desperate times, you can use white glue and magazine paper bind temporarily a broken eyeglass bridge by peeling off the magazine paper in horizontal strips, adding glue and layering it on both sides. Glue and newspaper can essentially create a paper mache bond that can take a short while before you get to one of your replacement pairs. If you lose an eyeglass screw and need MacGyver in an emergency, you can use tweezers to insert a twisted tie into the screw hole.

Know how to manage your fuse contacts

Contacts are incredibly useful in everyday life, but they can be dangerous in a disaster situation as they require clean water and an antibacterial solution. Without clean contact lenses, your eyes are prone to infection like bacterial and Fungal keratitis.

If you don’t have a contact solution, antibacterial fluid can do the trick, however Soap and water is the best alternative. However, whether you are camping or just stuck indoors during a global pandemic, stocking up with contact solutions is obviously the best option. “An eye infection would most likely be your greatest threat when you are in touch with the apocalypse,” he says DR. Bullets, a specialist in LASIK and vision correction.

Unfortunately, contact lenses expire: a pair of open, disposable contacts can last anywhere from a day to a month, hard contacts last up to a year or more. An unopened contact package can take time up to three years. So if you set aside contacts for use in a bond, you need to keep track of when they expire. And have glasses ready too. Maybe several couples.

Nick Viall and new girlfriend Natalie Pleasure go Instagram Official

0

Nick Viall Maybe he’s not a bachelor long because he’s ready to show his pride and joy.

On January 27, the reality star took his new girlfriend on Instagram Natalie Joy.

The surgical technologist posted a funny clip on her Instagram story that apparently confirmed her romance. It showed how she crashed Nick’s virtual reality experience while wearing white VR headgear and hand sensors. She leaned over his shoulder and twisted her lips for a kiss.

Strangely, he didn’t give her a hickey, probably because he was too absorbed in his game. The Bachelor star said to her: “You finish me off. I’m going to die.” Both giggled at their antics.

The PDA moment seems to confirm what fans have suspected since paparazzi spotted the couple in Los Angeles. On January 19th, the Viall Files podcaster was spotted walking his neighborhood with Natalie, their first public sighting together.

Vietnam is Asia’s prime performing financial system in 2020 amid the Covid pandemic

0

SINGAPORE – Vietnam is likely to be the top performing Asian economy in 2020 – an achievement without a single quarter of the economic decline at a time when the coronavirus pandemic hit many economies around the world.

Not every Asian economy has reported fourth quarter and full year economic figures. However, estimates by CNBC from official sources – when available – and institutions like the International Monetary Fund have shown that Vietnam has outperformed all of its regional counterparts over the past year.

According to Vietnamese estimates published in late December, the Vietnamese economy grew 2.9% year over year over the past year. That is better than China’s forecast 2.3% growth over the same period.

“With this achievement, Vietnam has seen one of the highest growth rates (rates) in a year when the rest of the world was in deep recessions,” said economists at Bank of America Global Research in a report earlier this month.

Some economists have questioned the accuracy of the data on Vietnam’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) in recent years. Still, many economists seemed optimistic that the country’s economic growth will accelerate this year.

Here’s a look at how Vietnam became the top performing economy in the region and what is ahead for the country.

Contains Covid

That strong economic run is likely to continue this year, Bank of America economists said.

The bank forecast the Vietnamese economy to grow 9.3% in 2021 – a much higher rate than the World Bank’s forecast of 6.7% expansion.

Resilient exports

Vietnamese manufacturing has been widely blamed for the outperformance of the economy over the past year, with production growing due to steady export demand. That’s a trend that will continue for years to come, economists said.

“Given that Vietnam has been a major beneficiary of the trend to shift / diversify the supply chain out of China in recent years, we see great scope for growth in Vietnamese exports in the years to come,” Fitch Solutions said in a December report .

The Southeast Asian country has also signed several new trade deals – with the UK and the European Union, for example – that could further boost trade flows, the consulting firm added.

A potential threat to the growth of Vietnamese exports – and thus the macroeconomic outlook – is US sanctions, Gareth Leather, senior Asia economist at Capital Economics, said in a report this month.

The government of former President Donald Trump described Vietnam as a currency manipulator in December. This would allow the US to take punitive measures like import duties from Vietnam.

However, analysts at the Australian bank ANZ said they do not expect immediate US action, partly because President Joe Biden’s administration “may not be as tough on this matter as it was under President Trump”.

Recovery in services

The Vietnamese service sector, severely affected by the pandemic, picked up towards the end of 2020.

Economists said the extent of the recovery in services – especially in tourism – will determine how quickly the Vietnamese economy will return to its pre-pandemic path.

Leder described the prospects for tourism as “poor”. Still, his forecast of 10% growth for Vietnam this year is one of the most optimistic on the market.

“We expect GDP to be only 1.5% lower by the end of 2021 than without the crisis. This is one of the smallest gaps in the region,” he wrote.

“The poor outlook for the tourism sector will continue to hold back a full recovery and is the main reason we believe a small output gap will remain.”

The West Virginia governor claims any individual over 65 may very well be vaccinated by Valentine’s Day

0

West Virginia Governor Jim Justice praised the success of distributing coronavirus vaccines in his state, claiming that if the mountain state had the “Valentine’s Day doses,” everyone in that state, 65 years of age and older, would be vaccinated.

West Virginia has spent the past three weeks as the number one or number two state in the nation for vaccination doses per capita, according to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention’s Covid-19 Vaccination Tracker. The state also has an administration rate for the first dose of 95.2% and a vaccination rate for the second dose of 46.8%. This is based on vaccine data released on West Virginia’s Covid-19 dashboard on Wednesday.

Justice broke his state’s “all-in” approach to spreading the Covid vaccine in CNBC’s “The News with Shepard Smith”.

“We didn’t necessarily take the federal approach, we took a practical approach and we took an all-in approach,” Justice said during an interview on Wednesday evening. “We brought our National Guard, our local pharmacies, our local health workers, our local health clinics and everything.”

Justice added that the West Virginia model “is not rocket science, it just moves and doesn’t sit back and plan a strategy”.

However, vaccine adoption remains slower than expected in several states in the country. Wisconsin, for example, has lagged behind, handing out only 42.5% of its Covid vaccine doses, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Governor Tony Evers described the introduction of the state vaccine as “a bit bumpy”. Evers said his state did not get enough vaccines from the federal government and those who give vaccines needed more time to prepare.

West Virginia has delivered nearly 12,000 doses, 77% of their dose coverage. The judiciary emphasized the importance of putting older Americans at the forefront of a vaccination strategy.

“We just saw it that way and it was age and age and age and we knew we had to move,” Justice said. “We didn’t want vaccines on a shelf, we needed them in people’s arms.”

January 2021 is already the worst month in the United States since the coronavirus pandemic began, with more than 79,000 deaths, according to a CNBC analysis of Johns Hopkins data. It’s a grim milestone that has broken the December record by more than a thousand deaths.

What’s a blanket and what’s it used for?

Top product: Sherpa Weighted Throw Blanket | $ 65 | Amazon

Do you remember buying a full size blanket in college only to find out it’s that tiny thing that won’t even get to your feet? Yes, me neither. But if you have a friend who doesn’t know the difference between a blanket and a throw – and at this point he’s too embarrassed to ask – then here’s the difference.

To put it very simply, a throw is a smaller blanket – usually around 50 “x 60” – that you can drape over a couch or chair. It’s not designed to cover your whole body, but something to cover your legs with or to be comfortable in the living room. A room can even have two or three throws, depending on the size of the room and the way you want to decorate it. This raises another crucial difference between a throw and a normal blanket: a throw can be used both as decoration and as warmth.
