A mother was forced to defend her huge stash after being classified as “gross”.

Holly Smith, who regularly posts her tips and bargain finds on her blog Coupon Queen, shared a video about her stash on TikTok.

The clip featured shelves of cleaning and beauty products, as well as durable groceries and stacks of children’s toys and activity kits.

Holly wrote on her video, “I can’t wait to start my stash again.”

But Holly was quickly attacked by trolls who accused her of being “selfish” during the pandemic.

One wrote: “Absolutely disgusting! Stock up during a pandemic! People go without because they want to be greedy! #selfish”

It included children's toys, as well as groceries, detergents, and toiletries

Holly quickly hit back on her reviewer and shared a follow-up video to respond to the comment explaining exactly what she’s doing with her stash.

On the video, she said, “The video you left this comment on was shot last year. I’ve had it in stock for over seven years.

“I want to show you what my stash looks like now.”

She films the empty space and says, “This is the area my stash was in, and you may be wondering where it all went.

She stated that much of her supply had been donated to charity

“All of the toiletries you saw in this video, such as bath bombs and shower gels, went to a women’s shelter.

“All the toys went to Brompton Hospital in London because they had toy appeal and it was the least I could do because they saved my baby’s life last year.

“And all of the food went to the Salvation Army to support the families over Christmas

“I’m not making this video to say, look at me, I am giving to charity, but I get so much hate every day when people see my stash.

“Am I going to stop storing? No! Because I’ll do it all over again. “

The launch of the SpaceX Transporter-1 ridesharing will carry 143 spaceships

0

The Falcon 9 rocket is about to be launched for the Transporter 1 mission on the launch pad in Florida.

SpaceX

SpaceX added another rocket to the record books on Sunday with the first mission of its “rideshare” program, which will launch dozens of small satellites into space.

The Falcon 9 rocket, launched from Florida’s Cape Canaveral, put 143 spacecraft into orbit – a new world record for the most spacecraft fired at the same time, surpassing the 104 mark set by an Indian PSLV rocket in February 2017.

The SpaceX mission, known as the Transporter-1, was the first for the company’s SmallSat Rideshare program.

While SpaceX is announcing a launch on a Falcon 9 for a single satellite for $ 62 million, the company’s SmallSat Rideshare launches offer smaller satellites – as small as a mailbox – the option of only $ 1 million for 200 kilograms circle.

Such ridesharing has become more common in the space industry. International competitors like Vega from Arianespace want to claim a share of the growing market for small satellites.

Carpooling offers another option for low-cost satellites looking for a ride into orbit. Smaller rockets like Rocket Labs Electron offer a bespoke approach.

“SpaceX offers a competitive ridesharing option that is largely taking advantage of Starlink’s product launches,” Phil Smith, senior analyst at Bryce Space and Technology, told CNBC.

The SpaceX service isn’t entirely on-demand, Smith said, but companies can pay a launch premium based on their schedule rather than the main customer’s schedule.

“There’s a pretty reliable ‘bus route’ available,” Smith said of SpaceX, “while companies like Rocket Lab and Virgin Orbit could be compared as standby taxis that will get your satellite where you want it to be as soon as possible. ”

Elon Musk’s company launched 133 satellites for a variety of government and residential customers, as well as 10 of its own Starlink satellites.

SpaceX customers aboard Transporter-1 include: Planet Labs, Exolaunch, D-Orbit, Kepler Communications, Spaceflight Inc., Nanoracks, NASA and Capella Space as well as iQPS, Loft Orbital, Spire Global, ICEYE, HawkEye 360, Astrocast and the Institute of Applied Technology at the University of South Florida.

In particular, the 10 Starlink satellites aboard this mission will be the first in the constellation to enter polar orbit as the company continues to expand public access to its satellite Internet network. These 10 satellites were added after Momentus withdrew its first Vigoride mission from the Transporter-1 launch earlier this month. Momentus cited the additional time required for regulatory approval as the cause of the change.

Biden Surgeon Common Decide Says US Race To Adapt In opposition to New Strains Of Covid

Vivek Murthy, named U.S. Surgeon General by President-elect Joe Biden, speaks as Biden announces his team tasked with fighting the Covid-19 pandemic at The Queen in Wilmington, Delaware on December 8, 2020.

WASHINGTON – President Joe Biden’s surgeon general said Sunday that the United States is in a race to adapt against the mutant coronavirus, which has spawned a number of potentially more infectious variants of Covid-19.

“The virus is basically telling us that it will keep changing and we need to be prepared for it,” said Dr. Vivek Murthy during an interview with ABC News’ This Week.

“We need to be number one, do much better genome monitoring so we can identify variants when they arise, and that means we need to double up on public health measures like masking and avoiding indoor gatherings,” Murthy said Biden’s candidate for the nation’s next surgeon general, he added.

He also called for an emphasis on treatment strategies as well as further investment in testing and contract tracking methods.

“So the bottom line is we’re in a race against these variants, the virus is going to change and it’s up to us to adapt and make sure we stay ahead,” said Murthy.

On Friday, UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson said the new variant, known as B.1.1.7, was linked to higher mortality rates. When asked, Murthy said the US needs more data on the UK variant before making the same decision.

Preliminary analysis of the mutant strain, first identified in the UK, suggests that it could be the culprit for the UK’s top in some cases. Johnson previously said the new variant could also be up to 70% more transferable. The UK government has also confirmed that another infectious variant of the coronavirus identified in South Africa has emerged in the UK.

Continue reading: 5 things to know about the spread of the new strain of Covid in the UK

Last month, Colorado announced the first case of the new and potentially more infectious strain, Covid-19. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention warned last week that the British variant, already circulating in at least 10 states, could become the dominant variant in the US by March.

Dr. Anthony Fauci, Biden’s best medical advisor on Covid-19, said last week that the Covid-19 vaccines currently on the market may not be as effective against new strains of the coronavirus.

Anthony Fauci, director of the National Institute for Allergies and Infectious Diseases, speaks during a press conference at the White House in Washington, DC, the United States, on Thursday, November 19, 2020.

“Conclusion: We pay very close attention to it,” said Fauci of the known variants that have been identified in Great Britain, South Africa and Brazil.

“There are alternative plans if we ever need to modify the vaccine. It’s not a very onerous thing, we can do it given the platforms we have,” he told reporters during a White House news conference.

Promoted Deal: 2-Pack: Juku STEAM Coding Kits | $29 | SideDeal | Promo Code KINJUKU

STEAM is so important for kids to learn and be enthusiastic about, especially girls interested in the science and tech parts. I’ve actually played with this Juku coding kit and can say it’s an excellent tool. Kits like these can run as much as $60, so to snag for this price is a great deal.

Pick any combo or two of the same. Today’s kits are the Light Games Coding Kit, Light Show Coding Kit, Making Music Coding Kit, and Smart Car Bots Kit. If you’re a cool nerdy aunt like me, this is the kind of thing you turn up with when you visit for the weekend. It’s recommended for ten years old and up. But if you have a particularly curious or tech-savvy kid who’s a bit younger, it still might work. It’s hard to beat the price given how kids can get bored with hobbies easily. You could also have a future programmer or web developer on your hands, and it all started here.

MagSafe is one of the clever, yet unseen new enhancements for Apple’s iPhone 12, implementing a magnetic anchor beneath the backing glass that you can snap a wireless charger and other accessories onto. In classic Apple fashion, however, the accessories are pricey: the MagSafe charging pad itself is $39 without the needed power brick, which will run you another $19.

Here’s a more cost-effective MagSafe charger from third-party maker RAVPower, which offers a wide range of great accessories for phones and other devices. This charger magnetically snaps onto the back of any iPhone 12 model and provides the same kind of wireless charging speed, plus you can use it for AirPods Pro and wirelessly-chargeable AirPods cases.

It also comes with the needed 20W USB-C PD power adapter to plug it into the wall, and it’s all yours for $25 right now when you clip the coupon on the page at Amazon. That’s less than half the price of buying Apple’s own components.

Samsung’s smartwatches strike a much different look than the Apple Watch, thanks to a circular design and more traditional watch-inspired allure, but its standard Galaxy Watch models aren’t the most ideal for wearing during workouts. Luckily, that’s where the slimmer and streamlined Galaxy Watch Active comes in, and it’s on sale right now at Amazon.

The first-gen 2019 Galaxy Watch Active is marked down to just $137 in black right now for the lone 40mm size, a savings of 32% off the list price. The green and rose gold versions are a little bit pricier at $150 each, but still deliver solid savings.

If you’re keen on getting the newer Galaxy Watch Active 2 instead, which adds more health sensors and offers an optional LTE edition, you can also save $50 on either the 40mm ($200) or 44mm ($250) GPS edition too. All of these watches work most smoothly with Samsung’s own smartphones, but you can also pair them with other Android phones or even an iPhone.

Now that you’ve stocked up on games from Black Friday sales on Steam, EGS, Origin, Uplay, and the like, you need to start thinking about expanding your storage. And while SSDs aren’t sexy, it is necessary to own one—and one with ample capacity for all your favorites. With some terribly optimized games like Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War taking up upwards of 100GB on your fastest drive, investing in an SSD with, say, four whole terabytes of space isn’t as bold an ask as it was just a few years ago, nor is it as prohibitively expensive as it once was.

The RGB-ified Spectrix RGB gaming SSD from ADATA gaming brand XPG, for instance, is on sale for just $400 on eBay, down 55% from its $900 list price. Because it’s an M.2 NVMe drive, it can drive “sustained” 3,500/3,000 MBps read/write speeds, according to ADATA, and fits snug in your motherboards M.2 slot, no additional cable management required. By comparison, an older SATA III SSD like the ADATA SU800, which costs half the amount for half the storage, claims read/write speeds of just 560/520MBps. Bang for buck, this price is unbeatable for anyone in the market for storage performance that keeps up with the latest PS5 and Xbox Series X consoles.

For a short time, you can get your hands on the Garmin Vivosmart 4 Activity and Fitness Tracker with Heart Rate Monitor. It’s only $89 on MorningSave, which is 32% off its original list price of $130. You’ll obviously be able to track your steps as well as your heart rate, but this cute watch can also measure blood oxygen levels, which is super important in the age of Covid. If you have specific sleep goals, it can measure REM sleep amounts and general stress throughout the night (and day). The Vivosmart 4 can go swimming with you, too, and can track the number of laps you took in the pool. It’s so well-rounded, y’all. If I didn’t already have a Series 6, I would’ve purchased it already.

It’s a big day today for America. Not only is Hitman 3 out on consoles and PC, but over at the Bezos Barn, a bunch of stuff is 20% off presumably to celebrate that fact. For those who don’t know, Amazon Warehouse is where products go to live when they’re returned to the company’s fulfillment centers for whatever reason. In order to make the cut, they’re subjected to a 20-point inspection before being relisted on the Amazon site with full transparency of their quality, ranging from “Like New/Open Box” to “Acceptable.” You can buy tons of stuff on the Amazon Warehouse site in a variety of categories, hence the excitement whenever a sale like this pops up.

Through January 27, for instance, you can snatch up an Apple Smart Keyboard for either the iPad and iPad Air or the 12.9″ iPad Pro version starting at $73. Need a new gaming headset? The Turtle Beach Ear Force Recon 50X is only $15 while the higher-end Razer Kraken Pro is down to $34. Other items include a four-pack of blue-light-blocking glasses, a Garmin Venu GPS smartwatch, and the first three Toy Story movies. Shop the whole sale here, or you can filter your search by department. For starters, check out electronics, video games, and home and kitchen for some of the deepest savings. Keep in mind, however, anything you’re interested in buying will have to be added to your cart first before the 20% discount is applied.

If you’re an iPhone user with some cash to blow, skip the pretenders and even the lesser AirPods to go for something better. The AirPods Pro step the game up with rubber tips, active noise cancellation, better overall audio quality, and a wirelessly-chargeable case as standard.

They’re a bit expensive normally, but right now Staples has ‘em for $40 off the list price. At $209, it’s the best price we’ve seen in a few weeks, although they were lower around the holidays. Still, if you held out and you’ve been hoping for another solid price drop, this is your chance.

If you’ve been itching to bring a very large TV into your home, now’s the time: the Super Bowl is only a couple of weeks away, and the big sales are sure to be kicking in all over the place.

Here’s a prime option that’s available now and in stock: Best Buy is slashing $300 off the price of this massive Hisense 85” 4K LED Smart TV, which packs in 8.3 million pixels for a super-crisp Ultra HD picture and supports both Dolby Vision HDR and HDR10 standards. The Android TV-powered set already has all of the major video apps built in, and while there are only a few reviews on the site so far, they’re all pretty glowing given the 4.8-star average.

I’ve tested Mpow products in the past and was always pleasantly surprised at the value to price ratio. They’re quality without breaking the bank. A real holiday treat from the company is their M30 Earbuds. They’re just $20 when you clip the coupon and use the code 4CCMYM3W. This discount will appear once you start the checkout process. This code expires Sunday, and it only works on the pink color.

$20 is a great price for an extra set of earbuds. If you’re running errands or just running and you don’t want to take your most expensive buds on the go, these are for you. Quick to pair and easy to bounce between tunes and calls. The M30’s are noise-canceling, so ideal for travel, and just because they are small and fit snuggly doesn’t mean there’s no power in them. Little buds, big bass. They’re sweat-proof, so sport it up and fear not about ruining them. You’ll get about 5 hours off of one charge but 25 hours with the charging case. The only blip is if you’re an Android user, you have to adjust the volume on your phone to “maximum” first to get the highest volume out of these. Other than that, it’s a solid audio device at a solid price.

Free shipping on this item for Prime members. This deal will expire on January 24.

If you’re looking for a portable projector that packs a punch, the Anker Nebula Mars II Pro might do the trick. This 720p projector provides an image up to 150 inches in size, yet comes in a compact package with a built-in handle. It’s $90 off the list price right now at Amazon, where it has a stellar 4.5-star rating from 775+ customers.

Tercius Bufete reviewed the Anker Nebula Mars II Pro for The Inventory last year and called it “an incredible portable projector hindered by rinky-dink software.” In other words, if you plan to use it (and the software situation hasn’t improved since then), you might want to use a cheap plug-in streaming stick like the Amazon Fire TV Stick or Roku Express to gain access to a wider array of apps and services.

I can’t think of any computer accessory that’s gotten more of a workout in recent history than the webcam. From Zoom meetings to digital concerts to online comic conventions to just Skyping with your family, the webcam kept us connected in a very disjointed world. A solution is on the pandemic’s horizon, but we are still social distancing and should be now more than ever. If you need to upgrade your system or even finally grab a cam, this is a great deal from a very reliable company. From now until January 24, save 53% on Aukey’s PC-LM1E Webcam; clip the coupon.

This webcam presents everything in high-def for crisp, clear pictures with built-in stereo microphones. The 1080p streaming makes this perfect for YouTube live, or even Twitch feeds. This works well in low light, too, if that your preferred setup. Stereo sound allows everything to be heard fully and clearly. It’s easy to install and clips right onto a flat-screen or laptop. Just plug into your device’s USB port, and you’re good to go. Don’t worry; you’ll get a manual and a warranty if you get stuck or something goes wrong. But given how dependable Aukey products are, we don’t expect the latter.

That’s just a small sample, so take a look and see if anything piques your interest.

This story was originally published by Giovanni Colantonio on 1/20/21 and was updated by Elizabeth Lanier with new information on 1/23/21.

Baby Yoda Funko Pops were some of the hottest sellers in 2020, leading the wave of highly diverse (and sometimes questionable) The Mandalorian merch. With the second season of The Mandalorian streaming a couple months back, it’s no surprise to see a fresh selection of Pops, including some larger deluxe editions.

Here’s one of ‘em that just released, recreating the scene in which Mando rides a Bantha through the desert with lil’ Grogu tucked into a pouch for the ride. Joe Biden is now the President of the United States and he just passed a law that says “you’re legally not a gamer unless you own a gaming chair.” Damn Joe, that doesn’t really seem like an important thing to pass right now. Because this is now the law of the land, that means that most of you aren’t gamers anymore. If you’re looking to remedy this fast, Staples is selling the Emerge Vortex gaming chair half off. You can become a gamer again for $100 when you buy this. There are a few different color options available, including red and black, the gamer colors. Considering how pricey gaming chairs can be, this is a pretty cheap deal, so check it out if you’ve been in the market for one lately.

We all knew this day was coming. Ever since Cyberpunk 2077 launched just about a month ago, it’s seemed pretty clear that a price drop was imminent. A wave of bad press really hurt the game’s word of mouth, despite the fact that it reportedly sold over 13 million units.

Whether or not this is directly related to all of the fallout, you can now get Cyberpunk 2077 on PlayStation 4 or Xbox One for $35 from Best Buy, and Amazon has also matched the price on PS4 and Xbox One. If you’d rather get a PC copy, Eneba has the game down to $31 when you use the discount code CYBERPUNKPATCH at checkout. You’ll get a key that’s redeemable on GOG.

Be warned that the game has been widely criticized on consoles for poor performance, especially if you have the original base PS4 or Xbox One hardware (instead of the PS4 Pro or Xbox One X).

CD Projekt Red has announced a roadmap of patches and fixes that will roll out in the coming months, and you’ll also get access to the respective next-generation upgrade on PS5 or Xbox Series X/S once that’s released later this year. However, there is no guarantee of eventual performance quality, so jump in at your own risk.

If you’ve been wanting to finally virtually cook with your grandma in Florida like those commercials we’ve all seen then you’re in luck. Despite Bezos being the richest person on earth probably, he’s apparently graced us plebs with this newest deal.

The Echo Show 5 is 50% off, bringing the price down to a low $45. It has a 5.5″ smart display to show you YouTube videos or to show (haha) all of your family members you are, unfortunately, socially distanced from until further notice. It’s a couple of versions back from the newest Echo Show 8, which is also on sale for $80, which is 38% off from the original list price of $130. Nothing else to say here. Grab it if you’ve got it!

Before the pandemic hit, I was eager to start volunteering at my local urban farm—I had a training session scheduled and everything. Since then, at least in Manhattan, there were strict limitations put in place for anyone hoping to pursue outdoor gardening in the concrete jungle. And I wasn’t willing to go through all the necessary hoops to potentially put myself at risk by going outside and regularly interacting with people just to spend more time outdoors tending to my neighborhood’s public plants. That said, there are options for any aspiring agriculturist looking to get their hands dirty.

While I recently picked up an AeroGarden Harvest Elite Slim for my wife over the holidays, the Farm 12 XL is currently on sale at Best Buy for little over $100 more than what I paid for my, much smaller, seed pot kit. With it, all you have to do is supply the device with the including “liquid plant food” every couple of weeks and watch your vegetation grow. You’ll get all the benefits of growing your own greenery at home without the heavy labor investment. A 60-watt LED light takes care of the sunlight aspect, in case you don’t have a yard to properly harvest plants. In the box, you’ll find 12 seed pods to start growing herbs, salad greens, and tomatoes—practically everything you need to make a fresh salad—all at a steep discount for a limited time.

They also come as insulated stainless steel or durable BPA-free plastic. All are easy to clean and will help keep you on track to unlock your aqua achievements.

This Vison series is one of the best Marvel’s come out with in years, and it remains a personal favorite of mine—not just because my pal Michael Walsh is an artist on it. Vision: The Complete Series is the perfect pairing with the new Disney Plus show WandaVision. While it doesn’t exactly follow the same plot, it does provide some much-needed insight into Vision’s backstory. Now 30% off, this paperback compilation includes twelve complete issues of the series. And if you want it all digital, you can save 78% through Kindle or ComiXology.

This graphic novel is written by the uber-talented Tom King, and it even won the Eisner for Best Limited Series in 2017. Through the twelve issues, you’ll follow Vision as he pursues a normal life for himself despite being, you know, a robotic death machine designed by Ultron to slay the Avengers. To do this, he winds up building a family as extraordinary as himself, discovering along the way that normalcy is just out of reach. The dialogue is brilliant, as is the case with most of King’s works, intimately putting Vision’s family bond on full display. And, of course, it wouldn’t be a superhero comic if it didn’t all come to an epic and heartbreaking crossroad. All in all, it’s a really fun read if you’re looking to expand your knowledge of the multifaceted Victor Shade.

My musical moments: Alex Newell shares the soundtrack to his life

Alex Newell has a moment.

It’s been a decade since audiences first became acquainted with the powerhouse performer when he starred on the first season of Oxygens The Glee Project looking for a coveted guest-starring bow for Fox hit Glee. He didn’t win but was so impressive that he got the role of Wade “Unique” Adams anyway and eventually became a regular.

Since then, Alex has had a formidable career that has taken him to the recording studio with an EP and a handful of standalone singles on Broadway, with a role in the 2017 revival of Once on This Island and Back to TV, where he’s currently in Second Starring season of NBC’s charming musical drama Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist.

In fact, it is Alex’s work as Mo, a genderfluid DJ and the title character’s neighbor, that just earned him the title of Best Supporting Actor in a comedy series nomination at the 2021 Critics’ Choice Television Awards, March 7th occur. “Dye me dead”, wrote Alex on Instagram after he had learned of her nomination, “shocked … and really honored to be thought and nominated at all !!!!”

How you can arrange a DIY house recording studio

If you’re a podcaster, musician, or actor working during the pandemic, having a home recording studio can be critical to your business. This year most of the recording work has moved to our homes, but it often still requires professional sound. Unfortunately, creating a home studio isn’t the most intuitive DIY project. In fact, you can feel completely lost without a professional guiding you. With a little investment and ingenuity, you can produce studio-quality sound from home. Here are a few steps to get the best sound quality from your makeshift room.

Soundproof a small room

Soundproofing is essential when it comes to producing clean, clear audio. Larger rooms have more surface area for sound to pass through, and rooms with bare walls or high ceilings create an echo that is picked up by any microphone. Angela Sarakan, Senior Audio Producer at Dipsea, advises, “It takes more than a microphone to capture high-quality sound. You need to try to absorb as much sound from your surroundings as possible.” Sarakan notes that the easiest and cheapest way to do this is to sit under thick blankets with your microphone while you record or, aside from that, in a closet full of clothes that will buffer the sound. From experience I can say that the former method works once, but under these lids it can get hot and sweaty. For consistent recording sessions, a semi-permanent setup is much more convenient.

I spoke to sound engineer Daryl Bolicek from Wild Horse Recording, LLCwho advised me on the best soundproofing solutions for the home. Bolicek notes that a closet is indeed perfect for fitting out with soundproofing materials – the small space naturally limits the echo and is more soundproof. If you don’t have a closet that is big enough, you can use any normal sized room as long as you can furnish it with the right sound absorbing materials.

Illustration for article titled How to Build a Home Recording Studio

G / O Media can receive a commission

Use sound absorbing foam

If you have a budget to work with, the fastest way to set up your home studio is Sound absorption foam. The material is similar to ice box foam, is thick, and comes in a limited range of colors like black, red, or blue (if you want to use a color scheme). It’s pretty cheap – between $ 30 and $ 48 for a pack of 12 ‘x 12’ panels, enough to cover up to 48 square feet of space. The good news is, you don’t have to cover your walls with foam from top to bottom. “You don’t have to do the whole room. You really want the front back and nail [walls] that fits the microphone, ”says Bolicek. The best way to make sure you’re covering your bases is to draw an X on the wall opposite the microphone in front of and behind you. The Xs mark areas where the sound hits the wall and bounces straight back into the microphone. Hence the most urgent need to install your foam.

A good soundproofing hack if you don’t have large closets or guest rooms is to use a small storage box. Make sure the box is big enough to fit your microphone first. Then line them with sound absorption foam and place the microphone inside. This setup is suitable for voice-over gigs, poetry recordings, or emceeing – any recording where a person speaks directly into the microphone. I went even further to attach the foam to one tri-fold presentation board this covers a larger space so that I can record while standing. (A tri-fold board can accommodate two people at the same time.)

As with any device purchase, you get what you pay for. “The more expensive, the better the foam,” says Bolicek. So if you invest in your business, the better foam will give better results. Cheaper foams work, but more expensive foams – when combined with other high-quality equipment upgrades – can make a noticeable difference. Personally, when listening to podcasts, I’ve found that the subject is more difficult to enjoy when it’s hard to hear or the audio mix is severely disrupted. The better the sound quality, the more engaged your listeners will be (especially since they have nothing to do visually). Quality materials are more important to professional musicians and speakers because your career depends on your ability to produce high quality recordings.

Illustration for article titled How to Build a Home Recording Studio

Invest in the right microphone

As with soundproofing materials, the more money you spend on your recording equipment, the better your end product – and the first thing you should do is get a microphone. You don’t have to break the bank; Just make sure you get the right microphone for your space, needs, and budget. I use AKG XLR condenser microphones to record my voice over gigs and an entertainment podcast. Condenser microphones are easy to find, relatively inexpensive (like microphones cost – $ 99), and offer great sound quality for the price.

However, condenser microphones are very sensitive and require a well-soundproofed room to avoid unwanted noise. For this reason, Bolicek suggests investing in a dynamic microphone. Dynamic microphones are not as sensitive or pick up as much background noise as a condenser microphone. If you want an excellent dynamic microphone, it will cost you significantly more (between $ 400 and $ 500). You can find some for as little as $ 99, but you should do your research ahead of time to make sure the quality is up to date.

Illustration for article titled How to Build a Home Recording Studio

Use an external audio recorder

After you’ve set up the room and selected your microphone, you need the right equipment to capture clean sound. Depending on which microphone you choose, you may be able to connect it directly to your computer using a USB cable. However, these cables are less durable and do not always provide the best sound quality. Instead, use a sound recorder to record sound from an external microphone and store it on your computer or an SD card. Programs that turn your cell phone or tablet into a microphone with recording software are not reliable. Sarakan notes with an external microphone and audio recorder are preferable to using your computer’s speakers or a phone app as this gives you greater control over the fidelity (which minimizes the risk of sound distortion).

I use a Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 with my condenser microphone for voiceover work. The Scarlett connects seamlessly to Garageband on my computer and costs about $ 159 for a model with two mic ports. When recording our bi-weekly podcast, my co-hosts and I use one H6 zoom recorder (Not to be confused with the video call service – I’m talking about hardware). The zoom recorder works better for multiple users and has connections for up to six microphones. (This was more relevant in pre-pandemic times). It’s a bit more expensive – around $ 329 – but older versions (H5 or H4) can be a cheaper option between $ 229 and $ 279 and are of comparable quality. Both recorders work very well, but I find the Scarlett easier to use when it’s just me and my computer.

Building a home studio is an investment. So take your time to plan and save. Recording a better sound can bring a great return on your investment.

Pfizer provides as much as 40 million Covid vaccine doses to the worldwide Covax program

Pfizer will deliver up to 40 million doses of its coronavirus vaccine to a global alliance that aims to provide coronavirus vaccines to poor nations, the head of the World Health Organization said on Friday.

The agreement will enable Covax – together with the WHO – to deliver vaccine doses to the participating countries from February, said WHO Director General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus during a press conference. Tedros added that until an emergency is approved, the program expects 150 million doses of AstraZeneca’s vaccine to be available for distribution in the first quarter of this year.

The Covax program aims to provide 2 billion doses of Covid-19 vaccines to participating countries, which include low- to middle-income countries, by the end of this year. The Pfizer BioNTech vaccine requires two vaccinations spaced weeks apart, suggesting the deal would only cover 20 million people.

Tedros said the deal would allow other countries with supplies of Pfizer’s vaccine to donate them to the program. The WHO chief criticized wealthy nations for signing supply agreements with drug manufacturers for their starting doses of Covid-19 vaccines to stockpile supplies from poorer nations.

“This is not only important for COVAX, it is also an important step forward for equitable access to vaccines and an essential part of the global effort to fight this pandemic. We will only be safe everywhere if we are safe everywhere,” so Dr. Seth Berkley, CEO of Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance, said in a statement.

Albert Bourla, CEO of Pfizer, said during the press conference that the company will make the vaccine doses available to Covax and poorer countries for a fee. Pfizer was the first company to receive a global list of emergency uses for its vaccine from the WHO, allowing other countries to expedite their regulatory approval processes to begin administering the vaccine.

Bourla said the company will help ship the cans, which require ultra-cold storage and special handling, to low-income countries. UNICEF, which is helping with the dispensing of the cans, previously warned that some of the world’s poorest countries could face the challenge of storing and managing the shots upon arrival.

The program’s contract with Pfizer increases supply agreements to a total of just over 2 billion doses, but negotiations for an additional supply continue. The goal, according to Covax, is to immunize healthcare and other frontline workers as well as some high-risk individuals from the first quarter of this year.

The agreement follows the United States’ decision to remain a member of WHO under President Joe Biden. The new administration will also join the Covax program, a move the Trump administration opposed last year.

“I couldn’t escape the temptation to say that I’m very happy that this press conference is taking place on the day the United States rejoins the WHO organization. I think it’s a symbolic, great day for us,” Pfizer boss Bourla said at the meeting.

“I renovate old furniture and bring it new life with a modern flair that suits the tastes of those who lead city life. Often times, part overhaul involves an item of repair that I’ve learned is most often fixed by a drill. I use that DeWalt 20V MAX Brushless. An exercise I indulged in about two years ago. It’s light and charges faster than my phone! I can’t imagine there is any trade in the DeWalt 20v MAX Brushless. It’s perfect and reliable. “- – Jessica Russell, Furniture upcycler at Local laundry

“This is the first compact drill / driver I bought. I am so impressed but also disappointed that I didn’t buy it sooner. I had to fix a privacy fence a lot because of one of my dogs, and I had to put an extension cord or two where the damage had occurred so I could make repairs. It takes about 15 minutes to connect the drill and put it away. NO MORE! This sucker can do anything the drill did in 1/4 of the time. It has to save electricity. It’s so nice to grab your bag and go. “- – Thorjr, Amazon employee

“My favorite cordless drill is that Milwaukee M12. It’s a 12 volt, but don’t let that fool you, this little drill has some power! I actually bought it about 5 years ago when I was struggling to mount my larger drill bit in tight spaces while working on a bathroom remodeling project. I found it online and decided to try it out and I’m glad I did. It is easier, [and] It just feels really good to hold in your hand. The chuck is really smooth and solidifies it as a premium tool. I have used this drill bit in everything from small projects like building storage space for my garage to large remodeling projects over the years and it hasn’t let me down. “- – Kevin Bazazzadeh, owner of Brilliant day houses

Preferably with batteries: Bosch PS31-2A

“I chose this drill because I own other Bosch products and have only had good experiences with them. Bosch is a brand that has a good reputation. I also looked for a drill bit that was a bit smaller. The smaller size allows you to get into tighter spaces if needed, and for certain DIY projects, this is a big plus. After all, the price was right. Not the most expensive, not the cheapest, it was in the middle of the street. I’ve had this exercise for a few years now and I love it. I’ve created numerous DIYS with it, including a headboard, outdoor bar, DIY fireplace, and more! “- – Cate Griffing, DIY blogger at West Magnolia Charm

Bottom line

Whether you’re remodeling a bathroom, remodeling old furniture, or just hanging up a few picture frames, a cordless drill is a necessity. However, it is important to know what specific tasks this drill will be used for. Otherwise, you could burn out a lighter drill bit by using it on heavier projects.

Also note whether batteries or additional devices are required for your drill and whether these are included in the set.

6. After reaching # 1 on the Billboard 200 for 24 weeks, Adele dropped out Whitney Houston‘s record for the longest running No. 1 solo artist album in US history (The Bodyguard Soundtrack released after 21 weeks). The run at the top made 21 the longest running number 1 in the modern Nielsen SoundScan era that began 30 years ago.

7. 21 was the best-selling album in both the US and Canada in 2011 and 2012. It was the first album that has achieved this special achievement since then Michael JacksonThriller 1983 and 1984.

8. In December 2011, Billboard was named Adele Artist of the Year, 21 was named Billboard 200 Album of the Year, and “Rolling in the Deep” was named Billboard Hot 100 Song of the Year. This made her the first woman to ever reach the top of all three categories at the same time. Thanks to continued sales of the album, she was also named Artist of the Year and Album of the Year in 2012. This made her the first artist to win both in a row.

9. At the 2012 Grammys, she won all six categories in which she was nominated, including Album of the Year, Record of the Year, and Song of the Year. (Billie Eilish would of course be the first woman to sweep all four at once in 2020.)

10. When the Recording Industry Association of America awarded 21 Diamond Certification for more than 10 million copies sold in November 2012, Adele was the only artist or band in a decade to make a single disc in that short time -Album earned. Four Issues to Do With Your Youngsters’s Ang Bao Cash, Cash Information

0

CNY is just around the corner and here are some ways you can take full advantage of the Ang Bao money your child will receive.

Time flies by, especially after the pandemic year 2020. In less than a month, the eagerly anticipated Chinese New Year (CNY) is just around the corner.

In addition to enjoying New Year’s snacks and being able to meet your relatives, the next big highlight from CNY is the opportunity to get Ang Bao money for your children.

Depending on the size of your family and how generous your relatives are, this year’s Ang Bao money transport could be in the hundreds or even thousands.

Where does most of the Ang Bao money go?

When you or your child receives Ang Bao money, it usually ends up where your child’s interest lies. From their point of view, it is either the next interesting toy or the upcoming play device or game.

While there is nothing wrong with spending it on toys or games, the question is whether your child’s Ang Bao money can be better used to invest in their future, for example.

Essentially, it’s a conscious choice between instant or delayed gratification. And we think that taking this opportunity to teach them financial literacy will help children better.

You can also take an active role in investing your Ang Bao money in areas that will be useful in the long run.

4 things to do with your children’s Ang Bao money

Art Services Possible costs
Enrichment class Improve your child’s cognitive skills. Expose your child to different types of learning $ 100 to $ 1,000 per year
saving account Teach your child the art of saving Free
investment Use the time factor when investing $ 1
Insurance premium Build your child’s next education and marriage fund $ 100 to $ 1,000 per year

1. Enrichment classes

Enrichment courses offer many benefits for your child’s development. From promoting critical thinking and problem-solving skills to making learning meaningful, the curriculum can improve your child’s soft and hard skills for their future.

Some enrichment programs that you can consider for your child include:

  • swim
  • music
  • Coding lessons
  • Physical education: karate, gymnastics, fencing

The examples above are just part of a long list of classes that can help your child’s cognitive development. In fact, like coding and music lessons, some of them can even give your child an early head start in their education.

But remember that we are not referring to an excessive enrichment class to make him / her the next Mozart. Be sure to give them enough so that they can explore a different type of learning opportunity and experience.

Most importantly, manage costs properly so that your child’s Ang Bao stash is not wiped out.

Potential cost: $ 100 to $ 1,000 per year

2. Savings account

Keep in mind that in the near future, your child may be able to earn a five-figure monthly sum. However, if it can’t save up for a rainy day, it’s for free. Therefore, it is important that you start cultivating a saving habit early if you want them to gain financial freedom.

Consider using the Ang Bao you receive as an opportunity to show the importance of saving in your mind. Start him / her with a simple savings account to save his / her Ang Bao money. Make it a task to show your child the balance on their savings account as a visual reminder of how far they have come over the years.

From here on you should slowly cross your child to save the daily allowance. In time, your child will resume the habit of saving and be better prepared for their financial future.

Possible costs: Free (there is no cost to set up a savings account!)

3. Investment

When it comes to investing, the maxim is that you need considerable capital and good investment knowledge to master the investing game. However, a key factor that is often overlooked is the essence of time.

The fact is, the longer you stay invested, the more time your money has to grow. If your child starts their investment journey at a young age, they will have a head start on becoming a millionaire by the age of 65.

If you deposited $ 64,350 in the CPF Special Account at birth and charged it at 4 to 5 percent for 65 years (ie until he retires), that sum will add up to $ 1 million in his CPF account.

While few of us (ever) get Ang Bao worth $ 64,350, every dollar you can contribute to the investment will create a compound effect that your child will enjoy in the future.

Teach them the concept of investing some of their Ang-Bao money on potential growth. Once they understand why, help them invest the agreed amount in a low-risk asset and keep them updated on the performance of their investment.

However, make up for this, leave a small amount for your child and indulge in pampering for the Chinese New Year

Potential cost: $ 1 (there really is no minimum cost to start your child’s investment trip)

Here are some broker accounts to consider if you want to open an investment account under your name and help your child invest.

4. Insurance premium

old

Don’t you think you are investing enough to do it yourself? You may want to consider professional help from insurance companies.

Options like foundation savings plans come with storage elements that you can use to grow your child’s Ang-Bao money.

Some endowment plans even include a clause that allows your child to withdraw them only when they enter another phase of life (e.g. graduation, marriage or the birth of a child).

Potential cost: $ 100 to $ 1,000 per year
