Here is the way you management the audio quantity for every app in your Mac individually

If you’re trying to listen to audio on your MacBook – whether you’re playing Spotify while working or editing a video project – chances are you don’t want to avoid the constant interruption of loud notification tones from your messaging apps. Unfortunately, unlike Windows, macOS doesn’t have a built-in utility that lets you control the alarm volume for individual apps.

If you want to set the volume for Messages or Slack to 20% and Music to 60%, you have to rely on third-party apps to get the job done. We found two great ones.

BackgroundMusic: A free app that lets you adjust the app volume individually

BackgroundMusic is a free macOS app that lets you assign different volume levels to each app.

BackgroundMusic is a free app that allows you to set different volume levels for each app running on macOS. It adds an icon to the menu bar that, when clicked, shows the volume levels for various apps, which can be easily adjusted using a slider.

While BackgroundMusic works well, the user interface isn’t the best, especially on smaller screens. Not everyone has a 27-inch iMac, and those of us with 13-inch MacBooks will find it a bit cramped. One problem is that the app shows more than necessary – I can see 13 apps on my computer’s list, including some photo editing and writing apps that don’t send notifications or play audio. The ability to pin favorite apps is sorely missed here, and when you hit the More Apps option, you’ll scroll through an insanely long list to find the app you want.

However, BackgroundMusic is free, which makes it easier to live with those little annoyances. You can download BackgroundMusic on GitHub (Big Sur compatible version and older versions are available separately).

SoundSource: The best app for advanced audio controls on Mac

SoundSource allows you to assign different volume levels to each Mac app and also redirect audio to different devices.

Rogue Amoeba is among the best in the business when it comes to creating audio apps for macOS, and Sound source is one of its outstanding apps. With it, you can not only control the volume for each app, but also redirect the sound from each app to different devices. You can ask the app to play sounds from music or Spotify only through your headphones, while zoom audio is routed to your Mac’s built-in speakers by default. You can customize these options to your heart’s content and even pin frequently used apps to the top of the list.

SoundSource also offers other advanced features, including the ability to add sound effects or apply equalizer settings on an app-by-app basis. The free version allows you to try out all of the features for 20 minutes each time you start SoundSource. After that, the resulting audio quality is “worsened” (at least that’s what the app developer says). If you like what it does well enough to make some cash, the full app can be purchased for $ 39.

Joey King & Jacob Elordi from The Kissing Sales space on Love Triangles

What happens in the dressing room stays in the dressing room – and no, these co-stars kiss and don’t tell!

The Kissing Booth 3 stars Joey King and Jacob Elordi shared their onscreen chemistry exclusively with E! News, and it’s safe to say that none of them have anything to do with the alter egos Elle Evan (King) and Noah Flynn (Elordi) in the third movie. Elle is having a hard time choosing a college while her feelings for longtime friend Noah wane as she gets closer to Marco Peña (Taylor zakhar perez) after her dance competition victory.

“I’m not a love triangle type, but I totally understand why it works in the movies, it’s so exciting to see,” King joked of Elle.

Should Elordi ever find himself in a similar situation, he would “just leave” the relationship. “It’s pretty awesome,” added the actor. “There’s a line in a song that’s like, ‘It’s me or the other man, and if you have to choose, I suggest you choose the other man,’ or something like that. I feel like it You make a decision, your opinion is fixed or my opinion, if I were in this situation. “

The U.S. academics union says the surge in Covid circumstances in youngsters has resulted in necessary pictures being taken

A recent spike in covid cases in children in the U.S. led the country’s second-largest teachers union to endorse vaccine mandates for educators as schools prepare for face-to-face learning this fall, said Randi Weingarten, president of the American Federation of Teachers.

“That really scares me: In the last three weeks, the number of children who tested positive has increased from 20,000 to 40,000 to 72,000,” she said, citing data from July. The number of children who tested positive for Covid in the week ending August 5 was even higher at 93,824, according to the latest data from the American Academy of Pediatrics.

Weingarten, who spoke in an interview with CNBC’s “Squawk Box” on Wednesday, said schools should give teachers time to get the shots and medical and religious exemptions for those who don’t want them.

“Children under the age of 12 cannot get vaccines, this delta virus is very transmissible, so we have to be in school for our children with our children, but we have to protect everyone,” said Weingarten. “And that means vaccines are the most important way, and the second way to do it is with masks.”

About 90% of teachers have already been vaccinated, Weingarten said during the interview, citing data from the White House. However, since many children can still not be vaccinated, Weingarten has not been able to advocate compulsory vaccination for students under 12 years of age.

With the rise of the Delta variant, states have begun improving their Covid containment protocols to prevent the virus from spreading among faculties and students. On August 4, Illinois Governor JB Pritzker made mask compulsory for all state students regardless of their vaccination status.

New Jersey also enacted a mask mandate for all students and staff on Friday, and Louisiana’s mask mandate for indoor public spaces includes students from kindergarten through college.

Becky Pringle, president of the largest US teachers’ union, the National Education Association, told the New York Times last week that any vaccination mandate should be negotiated locally.

Dow jumps 200 factors to new report after inflation report just isn’t as dangerous as feared

0

Shares rose on Wednesday after inflation skyrocketed, but not quite as much as investors feared when they canceled volatile food and energy prices.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average gained around 200 points, or 0.6%, and hit a new intraday record. The S&P 500 rose 0.27% to an intraday high. The Nasdaq Composite was up 0.1% as rates gave up on gains.

The 10-year government bond yield flattened after the report, giving up a previous gain and trading around 1.344%.

The consumer price index for July, released on Wednesday, showed a price jump of 5.4% since last year, compared to expectations of 5.3%, according to economists polled by Dow Jones. The government said the CPI rose 0.5% month on month in July.

But investors focused on core inflation. The CPI excluding energy and food prices rose 0.3% last month, below the expected increase of 0.4%. Core prices were still up 4.3% year over year.

“It is encouraging to see the pace slowing down a bit from month to month, which supports the notion that the recent price hikes are temporary and related to the reopening,” said Mike Loewengart, managing director of investment strategy at E * TRADE Financial . “So while inflation continues to run hot, it’s likely that investors are already pricing it in.”

Used car prices, viewed by investors as a sign of inflation spiraling out of control, rose just 0.2% in July after rising more than 10% in the previous month.

The data “should help allay investor fears that the Fed is too relaxed on inflationary pressures,” said Seema Shah, chief strategist at Principal Global Investors. “The details of the data release suggest some easing of the reopening and price hikes driven by supply scarcity, and preliminary suggests that inflation may have peaked.” Investors in the transition period will easily feel confirmed. “

Oil prices fell Wednesday after the White House urged OPEC and its allies to increase oil production to aid global recovery from the pandemic. West Texas Intermediate’s crude oil futures contracts fell more than 1% to about $ 67.44 a barrel. The European benchmark Brent crude also slipped more than 1% to around USD 69.85 a barrel.

Southwest Airlines shares fell after lowering their third-quarter operating earnings forecast, citing the Delta variant.

On Tuesday, the Dow and S&P closed at record highs after the Senate passed the $ 1 trillion infrastructure bill. The law provides for $ 550 billion in new spending on areas such as transportation and the electricity grid. The Nasdaq Composite lost 0.49% on Tuesday, posting its second negative trade in the last three.

The march to record highs for stocks comes despite rising Covid cases in the US and around the world.

“The widespread distribution of vaccines and distancing measures have helped limit the impact of the variant, but we could still hold back economic growth as some restrictions are reintroduced and consumers may become more cautious,” said Barry Gilbert, asset allocation strategist at LPL Financial. “While we can see an increase in market volatility due to the delta variant, we believe the S&P 500 will continue to make gains through the year end,” he added.

Wendy’s rose 2% after reporting a better-than-expected result ahead of the bell. Lordstown Motors, eBay and Bumble are on deck for after-hour releases.

As of Friday, 87% of the S&P 500 companies that released quarterly results had beat earnings estimates. The same percentage of companies beat sales estimates over this period.

If you’re fired for not vaccinating, can you continue to declare unemployment advantages?

0

Image for the article titled If You Get Fired For Not Getting Vaxxt Can You Still Claim Unemployment Benefit?

Photo: LookerStudio (Shutterstock)

As a Delta COVID variant spreading, More and more employers require their employees to be vaccinated. As we’ve seen in some high profile examples, non-compliance has resulted in employees as well get fired or quit their job to avoid the sting. But are they still entitled to unemployment benefits? The short answer is no, as the law favors employers when it comes to vaccines. Here’s what you need to know.

Rejection of the vaccine is a reason for termination

According to USA Today, a current US Department of Justice legal opinion acknowledges that private companies have a legal right to mandate COVID vaccines, provided they don’t violate any applicable state and federal laws, which you can review here. That is, if your company’s policy now requires a vaccination and you don’t get one, you could be fired and excluded from unemployment benefits. You also wouldn’t qualify if you quit your job just because you don’t want to get vaccinated.

You need a good reason to collect unemployment

In order to receive unemployment benefits, you usually have to be unemployed through no fault of your own, for example during a round of layoffs in your company. You are not entitled to unemployment if you have been laid off for misconduct and that may include a violation of your company’s new vaccine policy. (It should be mentioned here that in some states You can still claim unemployment benefits if you have been made redundant for less serious reasons, such as: B. just not good at your job.)

G / O Media can receive a commission

The only exception to this is what is known as a “good cause”. This is the point where you categorically roll back your employer for valid reasons, such as unsafe working conditions, lack of pay, or discrimination. In many states, “good cause” can include discrimination on the basis of religion or disability. In this case, a claim could be made if your employer did not make reasonable arrangements before you were terminated or fired (e.g., work from home or other social distancing measures).

However, these precautions must not represent “unreasonable hardship” for the employer. In this case, an employer might argue that refusing a vaccine prevents you from doing your job effectively, that you pose a health risk to other employees. You will also need to provide documents to prove that you cannot get a vaccine for a legitimate medical or religious reason and that your employer violated your rights. From a legal point of view, it would be an uphill battle.

As employment lawyer Joshua Van Kampen explained in a Yahoo! interviewDon’t expect to find lawyers willing to sue an employer for compulsory vaccination: “I haven’t found a valid religious objection to vaccination yet. I think people will be surprised when they know they don’t have a lot of legal options. “

Bottom line

Do not expect unemployment benefits if you violate your company’s vaccination requirements, as this will be seen as a reason for termination. Technically, you could qualify for a medical or religious exception, but that would be very difficult to prove. As these guidelines are becoming the norm, it is best to simply get the vaccine.

Machine Gun Kelly reveals dramatic head tattoo whereas shaving his hair

0

If you would say Kelly machine gun has to get his hair under control, that would be a bleak lie.

The 31-year-old rapper posted a photo on social media on Tuesday, August 10th, revealing that he had recently shaved off all of his signature blonde locks. This is quite an impersonation as his Instagram bio is simply “The Blonde Don”.

This picture featured a prominent tattoo on his head, which can be seen in the screenshot below.

His social media post was part of an effort to promote his music video for the first single on his upcoming album Born With Horns. The video directed by Cole Bennett, falls on Wednesday, August 11th, and MGK titled his post: “I shaved my head for these @_ColeBennett_ ‘paper cuts’ tomorrow 9pm.”

Even so, his fans seemed skeptical that the hairstyle change was real, and one fan wrote, “Don’t lie, we know it’s a bald head.”

How To Use The CDC’s Journey Map To Plan A Low Danger Trip

If you are considering an international trip in the near future, your first stops should be the CDCs Travel recommendations by destination Map. There you can see how your destination country fares in terms of COVID cases.

At the time of this writing, things are generally not going well. There are four categories: low, medium, high, and very high risk. The “very high” list is the longest with around 75 countries, including the USA. The “high” list is the next longest.

Who is at low risk? Currently this list includes China, Australia, some Eastern European countries (including Poland and Romania), and a number of African countries from Mali to Sudan.

The map provides a snapshot of current conditions, so there is no guarantee that a country will still be low risk at the time of your planned vacation. But it can give you an idea, and you can always check back as your date approaches.

Here are the precautions the CDC recommends for the different risk levels:

  • Very high risk: “Avoid traveling to these destinations. If you need to travel to these destinations make sure you are fully vaccinated before you travel. ”
  • High risk: “Make sure you are fully vaccinated before traveling to these destinations. Unvaccinated travelers should avoid essential trips to these destinations. “
  • Moderate risk: “Make sure you are fully vaccinated before traveling to these destinations. Unvaccinated travelers in increased risk of serious illness of COVID-19 should avoid unnecessary travel to these destinations.
  • Low risk: “Make sure you are fully vaccinated before traveling to these destinations.”

G / O Media can receive a commission

Countries for which no data are available are treated as very high risk countries with a “avoid travel” warning. And yes, the CDC recommends that you get vaccinated before traveling anywhere. Read more on her page about international travel.

By the way, if you are traveling domestically, there is one Map of the US counties according to the current COVID status, as well as Recommendations for domestic travelers.

5 Extra Inexpensive DBSS Properties Beneath $ 800,000 in 2021, Cash Information

0

The Singapore real estate market was full of talk of the $ 1.295 million resale apartment in Bishan.

That record breaker was a Design, Build, and Sell Scheme (DBSS) apartment, and it’s the most expensive HDB deal to date (yes, at $ 1.268 million, even more expensive than the HDB townhouse that got the news).

While rising resale prices are always a cause for concern, we have some good news – for those looking for DBSS real estate, there are still options well under $ 800,000. You can find the cheapest ones here:

A quick note on DBSS apartments

DBSS dwellings are public dwellings but are built by private developers; However, this is not the same as the Executive Condominium (EC) program. Unlike ECs, DBSS apartments do not have fully equipped condominiums like pools, gyms, etc.

Also, DBSS dwellings are never privatized like EGs – they remain social housing for their entire lifespan.

The main benefit is better workmanship and some features that you cannot get in regular apartments – like three bathrooms, floor-to-ceiling windows, larger balcony areas, etc.

DBSS apartments were short-lived and were all built between 2005 and 2011.

Other DBSS options to consider

Beyond those five prices listed today, prices begin to climb into the over $ 800,000 range. At this point, buyers may wonder if an EC is the better option. That said, here is a list of some other DBSS projects that may be in a lower price range:

Three rooms Four rooms Five rooms
Projects Minimum Max Minimum Max Minimum Max
Adora Green $ 390,000 $ 465,000 $ 460,000 $ 630,000 $ 630,000 $ 770,000
Belvia $ 420,000 $ 525,000 $ 595,000 $ 760,000 $ 700,000 $ 880,000
Centrale 8 in Tampines $ 445,000 $ 550,000 $ 595,000 $ 690,000 $ 785,000 $ 895,000
City view @ Boon Keng $ 570,000 $ 640,000 $ 815,000 $ 902,000 $ 800,000 $ 1,200,000
Lake Vista @ Yuan Ching $ 390,000 $ 485,000 $ 543,000 $ 670,000 $ 630,000 $ 750,000

The Peak @ Toa Payoh $ 575,000 $ 646,888 $ 750,000 $ 903,000 $ 808,000 $ 1,160,000
The premiere @ Tampines $ 580,000 $ 610,000 $ 690,000 $ 840,000
Trivelis $ 445,000 $ 565,000 $ 650,000 $ 796,000 $ 840,000 $ 1,038,000

Where can I find the cheapest DBSS apartments

  • Adora Green
  • Lake Vista @ Yuan Ching
  • Lumiere Park
  • The premiere @ Tampines
  • Parkland residences

1. Adora Green

Location: 348B Yishun Avenue 11 (Yishun Town)

Completion: 2013

Median price (June 2020 to July 2021):

Three rooms Four rooms Five rooms
$ 432,000 $ 582,500 $ 698,000

Notable details:

Adora Green is one of the rather underrated HDB projects. This is likely due to the accessibility issue that is the main disadvantage of this development:

[[nid:538774]]

Adora Green doesn’t have an MRT station within walking distance, and even bus connections are limited (only buses 806, 103, 1N and NR1 go to nearby stops).

Other than that, everything works pretty well for a family business. The project overlooks the nearby Yishun Park and Yishun Pond, and there is a lot of greenery. Huamin Primary School is practically next door, and Yishun Mall and Yishun Park Hawker Center are just a 10-minute walk away.

For more shopping, Northpoint is nearby, 790 meters away. Local residents have pointed out that there is a shortcut across Yishun Pond that will get you there in about 10 minutes. Junction Nine is another option, about a six-minute drive away.

For families who ride a car or bike, Adora Green is great value for a DBSS project.

2. Lake Vista @ Yuan Ching

Location: 138C Yuan Ching Road (Jurong West City)

Completion: 2014

Median price (June 2020 to July 2021):

Three rooms Four rooms Five rooms
$ 445,000 $ 623,500 $ 709,000

Notable details:

There’s a snappy joke that the problem with Jurong West is that it’s not Jurong East. This city has been significantly overshadowed by Jurong’s transformation and pales in comparison to the Jurong East retail powerhouse.

As such, developments like Lake Vista have flown under the radar. Located near Jurong Secondary School (approx. Three minutes’ walk), this project also offers good everyday equipment.

There’s a Sheng Siong in Jurong Superbowl and an NTUC FairPrice in nearby Yung Kuang – both are about a seven-minute walk away.

The Jurong Community Clinic and a dental clinic are just a three-minute walk away. Taman Jurong Shopping Mall (an HDB shopping mall) is just a three-minute drive away.

The main downside would be the lack of an MRT station nearby (although the area is fairly well connected by bus).

For those who want to live near the Jurong East retail hub – which is a 12-minute drive from Lake Vista – this project could be a cheaper alternative. In and of itself, however, the location of Lake Vista is a bit bland with little lifestyle or entertainment.

3. Lumiere Park

Location: 168A Simei Lane (Tampines City)

Completion: 2011

Median price (June 2020 to July 2021):

Three rooms Four rooms Five rooms
N / A $ 664,500 $ 736,500

Notable details:

Parc Lumiere has benefited a lot from the development of Changi Business Park (CBP) in recent years. This DBSS project is only a six minute drive from CBP; and it is noticeable that Changi Airport (along with the Changi Jewel) is roughly the same distance away.

[[nid:521375]]

Another major development is Upper Changi MRT station, which is about 310 meters away – this is a 10 minute walk if following the route haven’t checked this out directly).

Previously, the closest MRI was Simei at around 680 meters or a 13-minute walk. This instead provides access to the East-West Line (EWL), though likely more convenient for cyclists.

Nonetheless, the Eastpoint Mall is also nearby and remains the main shopping area for most residents.

For the buyer planning to rent out the entire apartment after the MOP, the Parc Lumiere stands out. This project is a four minute drive to the SIA training center and a six minute drive to SUTD.

Coupled with the proximity to the airport, this can be a strong rental option for some aerospace workers.

4. The premiere @ Tampines

Location: 517 Tampines Central 7 (Tampines City)

Completion: 2008

Median price (June 2020 to July 2021):

Three rooms Four rooms Five rooms
N / A $ 595,000 $ 751,444

Notable details:

Coming from the previous line of DBSS apartments, The Premiere has a strong location near the Tampines Hub. It’s about 780 meters from the Tampines MRT station, or about a 13-minute walk. Still a bit too far to walk but easy enough if you ride a bike.

This is roughly the same distance to the heart of Tampines, where you’ll find Century Square and Tampines 1 (Giant and Cold Storage can be found here).

The surrounding HDB blocks also offer some immediate amenities, such as 7-11 outlets or the NTUC FairPrice in the nearby community center (10 minute walk).

The biggest downside is the density of the area – it’s opposite other HDB apartments in most directions, and the streets here are pretty busy. Unfortunately, the view doesn’t improve much on the upper floors.

The premiere also blends in so well with the HDB flats that you might not think it was special or had DBSS status unless directed to do so. This could have a psychological impact on why the price didn’t skyrocket despite its good location in a mature city.

That said, for those who want the best that Tampines has to offer (and don’t want to pay the crazy prices closer to Tampines MRT), this is well worth considering.

5. Parkland residences

Location: 475A Upper Serangoon Crescent (Hougang Town)

Completion: 2014

Median price (June 2020 to July 2021):

Three rooms Four rooms Five rooms
$ 470,000 $ 625,000 $ 763,000

Notable details:

As the name suggests, one of the main features is the scenic view of Punggol Park, which is also just a five-minute walk away. This park is a well-known lifestyle spot for joggers and cyclists.

Although the view is good, this is a project for those who ride a car or bike. There is no nearby MRT station nearby; and even bus connections are few (136, 102, 6N and 62).

There are few amenities across the street as well, with the closest shops being The Midtown (a five-minute drive) and the Hougang Mall (a six-minute drive).

What you pay for is a peaceful enclave with a good view; one that stands out from the much denser HDB blocks around them.

The rising demand for photo voltaic power will gasoline Three metals, predicts Wooden Mackenzie

0

The transition to renewable energy sources will lead to an increase in the demand for base metals in the coming years, predicts Wood Mackenzie.

In a report released Monday, analysts for the energy consultancy said that increasing reliance on solar energy would increase demand for several non-ferrous metals if governments meet their commitments to limit global warming.

Wood Mackenzie named three metals in particular as raw materials: aluminum, copper and zinc.

The report’s authors outlined three possible scenarios for the metals, with demand growth depending on the success of international efforts to limit global warming.

Under the Paris Agreement – a landmark agreement adopted in 2015 and signed by 196 countries – States have agreed on a framework to prevent global temperatures from rising by more than 2 degrees Celsius compared to pre-industrial levels, although the treaty aims to prevent global temperatures from rising by more than 1.5 degrees Celsius.

aluminum

Wood Mackenzie’s base scenario assumes that temperatures will have risen by 2.8 to 3 degrees Celsius by the end of the century compared to pre-industrial times.

In this situation, the aluminum demand from the solar power sector would increase from 2.4 million tons in 2020 to 4.6 million tons in 2040.

Typically, aluminum is used in solar panel frames and their structural parts, noted Kamil Wlazly, a senior research analyst at Wood Mackenzie.

However, if the global temperature rise were kept between 1.5 and 2 degrees Celsius, it would mean that aluminum demand for solar power would have reached between 8.5 million tons and 10 million tons per year by 2040, according to the analysts.

In the most optimistic climate scenario, where renewable energy sources are more likely to be used to limit warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius, demand from the solar sector would account for 12.6% of total global aluminum consumption by 2040 – up from 3% in 2020.

copper

Demand for copper – which is used in high and low voltage transmission cables and solar thermal panels – will also see “remarkable gains” as solar power becomes mainstream, Wood Mackenzie said.

The baseline scenario of the report predicted that the demand for copper from solar power generation would increase from 0.4 million tons in 2020 to 0.7 million tons per year by 2040.

Copper consumption in the solar sector would rise to 1.3 million tons by 2040 if global warming were limited to 2 degrees Celsius.

If the temperature rise could be limited to 1.5 degrees Celsius, consumption of the red metal would likely rise to 1.6 million tons per year over the next two decades, the report said.

zinc

Meanwhile, analysts found that only zinc coatings could provide cheap, long-lasting corrosion protection, using the metal in the structural parts of solar panels.

Currently, solar power systems account for around 0.4 million tons of annual global zinc consumption, Wood Mackenzie said.

If global temperature rose 2.8 to 3 degrees Celsius by the end of this century, that number would rise to 0.8 million tons by 2040.

With a temperature increase limited to 2 degrees Celsius, zinc consumption would rise to 1.7 million tons per year by 2040. If warming were limited to 1.5 degrees Celsius, zinc consumption in the solar sector would rise to 2.1 million tons per year by 2040, analysts predicted.

Wood Mackenzie’s predictions for the three metals were based only on demand from the solar energy industry and did not speculate on total global demand.

Wlazly pointed out in Wood Mackenzie’s note on Monday that falling production costs and efficiency gains had lowered the price of solar power worldwide.

“As a result, solar power has become cheaper than any other technology in many parts of the US and several other countries around the world,” he said. “As costs continue to fall, the share of solar energy in the electricity supply will increase and displace other forms of generation. This offers a great opportunity for the base metal sector.”

Find out how to acknowledge breadcrumbing in your relationships and what to do about it

A pigeon pecks for seeds in a woman's outstretched palm

Photo: Ammatar (Shutterstock)

When you get to know someone romantically, you should be able to expect them to be honest about their feelings for you – otherwise why bother? But sometimes you meet someone who seems interested in you but is not ready to get involved in anything that is close to a real relationship. If this sounds familiar, you may be a victim of breadcrumbing.

It’s a cute, albeit apt name, when someone seems to be constantly signaling their interest in extending a relationship – but it only gives you enough to make you come back for more, be it an unexpected call at night or a couple unsolicited, earlier morning heart eye emoji texts. A breadcrumb will never give out in quantities that really satisfy your emotional needs – but they will feed you just enough to keep you from flying around the stall, so to speak.

What does breadcrumbing look like in a relationship?

It’s an old chestnut with a name that corresponds to the internet age. Urban Dictionary defines breadcrumbing as follows:

When the “crush” has no intention of taking things further, but they like the attention. So that you flirt here or there, send dm/ Texts just to keep the person interested in knowing damn good they stay single.

Surely the behavior has existed as long as people have courted one another; in less meme-worthy terms, it is also referred to as “moving someone on”. But unlike its equally harmful cousins Slow fading and ghostingBreadcrumbing is more about pissing someone off for attention without really giving them much in terms of real, high-quality interaction.

Maybe that person just wants to talk to someone when they feel lonely, so they text them and start a conversation. They seem to be building a relationship, but when you ask if they’d like to meet in person, they’ll get crickets in response.

The hours of immediacy of SMS and direct messages only make the problem worse, the psychologist notes Val Walker, who writes for Psychology Today. According to a study she points out, while breadcrumbing people stay tied to their devices, waiting for warnings that may never come.

“Breadcrumbing uses amplifiers that stimulate addictive behavior (eagerly awaiting likes, random messages, praise, encouraging comments, flirtatious texts and photos)” Walker writes. “The basic motivator of this behavior is the expectation of the reward.”

Obviously, being breaded doesn’t feel good, but it can be easy to fall for. Not that you should beat yourself up over it – when people use this type of tactic, it often says more about their problems than anything about you. As Kelly Campbell, professor of psychology at California State University in San Bernardino told Brides magazine, low self-esteem, and a need for approval are constant traits of people who have breadcrumbs. “They don’t feel comfortable or confident unless they are constantly reassured by others that they are worthy or valuable,” she said. As a result, they often seek the mere form of that affirmation just to feel better for a moment.

What to do when breaded

There are really only two ways to put an end to the agony of breading. You can confront the person directly, of course, but it is unlikely to cause any meaningful change in their behavior; Even so, letting them know you’ve been hurt can be cathartic. Walker, on the other hand, advised speaking to others about the experience, especially if it bothers you, in order to get a sense of your own validation.

She wrote:

Call it by its name and condemn the practice. Talk to a trusted friend, family member, or therapist. They were also likely breaded at some point in their own life. Or write in your diary.

Once you recognize breadcrumbs for what it is, you will feel more confident about yourself if you choose to just stop taking the bait.

Finally, never blame yourself. It is not your fault that you are treated like this. Understand that you did nothing to deserve such insincerity. Also, once you’ve named and processed the presence of a breadcrumb in your life, you will be much less likely to stand someone else trying in the future.
