How one can go to Burning Man 2021 in VR or on-line at no cost

If you’ve always wanted to go to Burning Man, this year’s festival may be your best chance as this year’s Burning Man will (mostly) be a virtual experience due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

While longtime attendees will certainly miss the community vibes of going to Burning Man in person, hopefully the free social VR experience “BCRvr” (Black Rock City VR) can capture some of the magic. BCRvr will host “Hundreds of worlds and art installations, performances and hundreds of hours of events that encourage conversation, radical self-expression and connection” during this year’s “Virtual Burn Week” from August 29th to September 7th.

BCRvr is accessed through the AltspaceVR app, so you’ll need to do this from the AltspaceVR website, the Windows Store, steam, or the Oculus store if you want to participate. There is also a Beta version available for Mac.

Note that a VR headset is not required to run AltspaceVR or to attend the BCRvr events. You can run the app from your computer using your keyboard and mouse. If you plan to take part in VR, AltspaceVR supports the headsets HTC Vive, Oculus Rift, Oculus Quest 1 and Quest 2 as well as “Windows Mixed Reality-enabled platforms”.

More than a year after the Covid-19 pandemic, the world is struggling with a highly transmissible Delta variant, which has led to a renewed increase in infections in countries from the UK and the US. to those in Africa and Asia.

The Delta variant, which was first discovered in India last October, has been found in more than 130 countries around the world, according to the World Health Organization.

Delta is the most commonly transmitted variant of the coronavirus, which first appeared in China in late 2019, said Dr. Maria Van Kerkhove, epidemiologist and technical director for Covid-19 at the WHO.

“The virus itself is, as it begins, a dangerous virus, a highly transmissible virus. The Delta variant is even more – it is twice more transmissible than the ancestral strain, it is 50% more transmissible than the Alpha strain, ”she said at a WHO press conference last week.

Delta variant prevalence

Delta is one of four “Concerning Variants” listed by the WHO. Such variants are considered to be more contagious, more resistant to current vaccines and treatments, or could cause more serious illness.

The delta variant has become the dominant Covid-19 pathogen in many countries.

According to genetically sequenced coronavirus samples collected by GISAID, around 65 countries have discovered cases of Covid caused by the Delta variant in the four weeks leading up to August 5.

GISAID is a platform for scientists to share information about viruses, and their data is widely used by the global scientific community, including the WHO.

Data on the prevalence of the Covid Delta variant likely underestimate the real situation as some countries do not share sequenced samples with GISAID, while others may not have the ability and resources to perform virus sequencing.

In 55 of these countries, the delta variant accounted for more than half of the virus samples submitted, according to data compiled by GISAID.

Effectiveness of the vaccine

The Covid Delta variant has not spared countries with some of the highest vaccination rates in the world.

Israel, where more than 62% of the population is fully vaccinated, reported an increase in daily cases last month as Delta became the dominant strain in the country.

When the Delta variant spread in Israel, the Ministry of Health found that the effectiveness of the Covid vaccine dropped to just 39% with two doses of Pfizer-BioNTech, although protection against serious illnesses remained high. The country has started giving booster shots to people over the age of 60.

But a study in the UK, where the Delta variant is also fueling a surge in infections, found that two doses of Pfizer-BioNTech or the AstraZeneca-Oxford University vaccine were almost as effective against Delta as against the Alpha variant.

The study, published in the New England Journal of Medicine, used real world data and found that two doses of the Pfizer BioNTech vaccine were 88% effective against the Delta variant. That’s compared to 93.7% versus the Alpha strain, it said.

According to the study, the AstraZeneca-Oxford vaccine was found to be 67% effective against Delta, compared to 74.5% effectiveness against the Alpha variant.

However, vaccination progress has remained inconsistent around the world. Many poorer developing countries are lagging behind due to their lack of access to Covid-19 vaccines.

On Wednesday, WHO urged rich nations to stop distributing booster vaccines, highlighting global injustice in vaccines.

Aside from getting more people vaccinated, WHO’s Van Kerkhove said there are steps individuals can take to better protect themselves from the Delta variant. That includes wearing a mask, keeping your hands clean, and spending more time outdoors than indoors, she said last week.

“This won’t be the last variant of the virus you will hear us talk about,” she added. “The virus is likely to become more transmissible because viruses do just that – they evolve, they change over time, and so we have to do everything we can to contain it.”

Kakao Bank shares rose nearly 80% on their market debut in South Korea on Friday.

Kakao Bank is South Korea’s first digital bank to go public and the country’s largest public offering since Netmarble’s IPO in 2017.

At the end of the South Korean trading day on Friday, Kakao Bank’s shares had risen 78.97% from their issue price.

Kakao Bank gains came amid wider pressure in South Korean markets, where the Kospi fell about 0.2% that day. Kakao Bank-related stocks also fell, with both Kakao Corp. and Kakao Games each fell more than 2%.

According to local news agency Yonhap News, Kakao Bank became the highest-rated financial company in South Korea by market capitalization.

In an exclusive interview with CNBC, Kakao Bank CEO Yun Ho-young denied concerns about whether the IPO was overvalued.

“I think the IPO price is largely determined by the market, Kakao Bank is a bank in the mobile age,” he said.

“We are different from the existing banks and are creating new market opportunities,” he added. “One million customers opened the mobile bank account at Kakao Bank in just five days after the launch. Do you think that these numbers make Kakao Bank no different from the established banks?”

As the majority shareholder, Kakao Corporation holds 31.62% of the shares in Kakao Bank, according to the publication of the bank’s IPO in August. It turned profitable in 2019 – just two years after the service launched in 2017.

Speaking of the company’s future plans to fend off competition from established companies, Yun said it has an initial expansion into the mortgage lending business for its banking services sector. According to Yun, Kakao Bank currently has 13 million monthly active users.

Based on a lasting promise he made to a brother who died four decades ago, Nicholas Josey teaches a small class of young people how to prepare for a life of financial responsibility.

“Who is the most important person in this room?” Asks Josey, a 1990 graduate of the Northeast, the executive director of the Winning institute, a nonprofit financial education organization based in Boston. The answer, he says to each student, is you.

Josey wants students ages 14-19 to assert their own meaning – dealing with money in a way that will empower them throughout their lives.

The weekly courses in financial literacy are held at Northeastern Crossing in partnership with. instead of Madison Park Development Corporation (MPDC), a 56-year-old non-profit based in Roxbury, a community bordering the Boston campus in the northeast. Yhinny Matos, youth leader at MPDC, recognized the need for a course in financial independence based on a survey of people in the community. Apple Music supports spatial audio with Dolby Atmos technology, which means you can listen to some of your favorite songs with a cool surround-sound-like effect. We’re going to show you how to enable spatial audio in Apple Music so you can get the most out of this cool feature.

What is spatial audio?

Spatial audio adds a theater-like surround sound effect to any audio you hear, making it feel like the sound is coming from different directions around you. For example, when watching a TV show, you may hear footsteps from the left while a character is speaking from the right, while background noise may be played from in front of or above you.

Apple Music has also added this feature to some songs, optimizing them for spatial audio. If you’re looking to try this feature out, don’t expect it to be groundbreaking – some tracks have been mixed really well and sound awesome, while others may not sound as good as their original versions.

What do I need to hear spatial audio on Apple Music?

You need Dolby Atmos compatible hardware in order to hear spatial audio tracks on Apple Music, and you need to make sure that you have updated your software as well.

Spatial audio is supported by most of the Apple and Beats headphones currently available. If you have quick reflexes and use Gmail, you may be able to save these messages in time to avoid embarrassment.

But you don’t really need to be quick reflexes like Gmail does allows you to set your “Undo Submit” cooling-off period Be 30 seconds long – plenty of time to spot and fix your mistakes. You may not often need a 30 second delay, but when you do you’ll be really glad you did.

US job report ahead

Studies suggest that a third shot might help people whose immune systems don’t respond as well to a first or second dose.

Four small studies cited by the CDC last month showed that 16% to 80% of people with compromised immune systems had no detectable antibodies to Covid after two shots. Among immunocompromised patients who had no detectable antibody response, 33 to 50% developed an antibody response after receiving an additional dose, according to the CDC.

“From the observational data we have made, it now appears that they are generally not giving an adequate response that we believe would be adequately protected,” Fauci said Thursday.

Other countries such as France are already giving third vaccinations to people with cancer or other immune deficiencies. Israel announced last month that it would offer booster syringes to people over the age of 60 as the syringe seems to be becoming less effective in these people.

Some doctors have pushed for the US to allow an extra dose to immunocompromised populations, and many immunocompromised Americans are already finding extra doses of the vaccines, medical experts say.
