The latest WhatsApp beta for Android brings some major changes to the way the app’s chat archive system works. The “new archive”, as the app calls it, does the same thing as the “old” archive – house your archived messages – with one major exception: you can now permanently archive chats that you want to ignore or remove from your inbox.
Previously, archived WhatsApp conversations were returned to your active chats list when a new message was received. While you could Permanently mute push notifications to the Chats you’d rather ignoredYou would still see the unread message badge in your inbox and would have to re-archive the conversation to hide it. However, activating the new WhatsApp setting “Archive chats” prevents this.
(Remember, you always can Block contacts and unknown phone numbers in WhatsApp when someone is Annoy or bother you with unsolicited messages.)
The option to keep WhatsApp chats archived should be available to all Android and iOS users in the coming weeks. However, Android users can install WhatsApp beta version 2.21.11.2 (or higher) to try it out early.
Use this option to get started Google Play Store link to participate in WhatsApp’s beta program. The update should be installed automatically shortly afterwards. You can also download it manually from the Google Store page.
